Bodega on Main: what do users think?
Sophia R
Sophia R: Really enjoyed the atmosphere of this place, the food was quite good aswell, we ordered the patatas bravas and this other potato cake dish( can't remember what is was called) that were amazingly good, was a little disappointed with the Paella, some of the seafood was a little over cooked but overall still good.(frozen?) Was also a little disappointed with the service, not that our server was bad but seemed disinterested.
Chris McGregor
Chris McGregor: Good food, never had tapas before so it was an experience for sure, order a paella for a main and go with friends to share!Parking: It's main street Vancouver, so parking is hard at best of times.
Riaz Ali
Riaz Ali: Fantastic food! service was amazing, food came out quickly and the portions were perfect to share with friends. Would 100% recommend for anyone looking for Spanish tapas.Recommended dishes Pollo Frito, Deep Fried Calamari, Patatas Bravas and Calamares Fritos, Pan Con Tomate …More
Annie Yu
Annie Yu: We went for a birthday celebration. First time eating Spanish food so I was confused at first reading the menu. The seafood paella was amazing! Other than that, the food portions were a bit small. As a group of 6, we ended up spending a fair amount.Recommended dishes Seafood Paella Mixta …More

Annie Wilson
Annie Wilson: Have been here a number of times and always had great food and service, but didn't have the same experience yesterday. Booked a table about 4 weeks ago so thought we'd get a nice spacious table but were given a small table downstairs. Server was pleasant but didn't communicate that the food would come out very slowly. Three of our eight tapas dishes arrived and then we waited about 20 minutes for the remaining. Two dishes were cold. The rest were thankfully delicious. Server never came to check on us or to take more drinks orders. When the table had been cleared we asked for the bill. We then waited another 15 minutes to pay but no one came over. We were the last table downstairs so it felt strange to be ignored. Eventually, we went up to another server at the bar and settled up. Disappointed as this used to be a great spot.

POPE ST PIUS X: Great food, but grungie location. This part of town is really runned down. Parked our car about 3 blocks away and walked to the restaurant, it was like walking through pigeon park.Unfortunately, wouldn't go back for this reason
Lizzie S
Lizzie S: A little bit underwhelming to me. The decorations the atmosphere were great but I didn't feel the services. Especially we had our dessert by hands, they took our utensils and didn't give us new. Salad was overdressing but potatoes and lamb racks were lack of seasonings. Calamari was too oily and soggy.Food: 4/5|Service: 3/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Lamb Chops, Churros Parking space Somewhat difficult to find parking Parking options Free street parking …More

Nick Kazan: I had a great time coming here; the food was really good, and the vibe of the place was unique and definitely worth trying out. The Paella dishes were some of their most popular and it’s absolutely a go-to (the dish is quite large so don’t get too many appetizers). I do wish that the other portions were a bit larger, some of the dishes were quite small.

Naved Noorani
Naved Noorani: Oh boy! This place is fantastic!Nice restaurant, tasteful “bodega” decor; friendly, knowledgeable staff who have worked with this family restaurant for several years. We had tapas and paella, washed down with a refreshing white Sangria. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The best tasting paella in a very long time! They take 30 mins to freshly make a paella loaded with chicken, squid, shrimps, chorizo, unlike other places where you end up with a gluey mess of precooked food.Hot churros were delectable, don’t go without having them ;)Will be heading there again - soon!

El Mercat - Authentic Spanish Cuisine: what do users think?
Martha Velasquez
Martha Velasquez: Absolutely fantastic, my new favorite restaurant in Rockville, I have been three times and each time our meal was extremely creative with amazing flavor. Yesterday we tried brunch for the first time and was excellent. Service is really good and Chef George is wonderful.
Amanda Heredia
Amanda Heredia: Don’t bother to look for better Spanish food in the Canadian West Coast. This is the best and real homemade Spanish food.
KB Andrepoulos
KB Andrepoulos: This was the first time we ordered from El Mercat and we were not disappointed. We treated ourselves to the Valentine's Day box and everything arrived fresh and with clear instructions. We've been to Spain so this meal brought back so many memories of the excellent food there. The Basque style cheesecake was worth it alone but honestly everything was delicious. The delivery arrived on time and with a smile. We even received a text in advance so we could be sure to be home. The rose in the box was a nice and unexpected touch. Would absolutely recommend El Mercat.
Elizabeth G
Elizabeth G: Don’t miss the opportunity to try this food. Amazing!
Ruben Arellano
Ruben Arellano: Best cheesecake ever. I’ll be back to try the rest!
Carolina
Carolina: I am from Spain, living in Canada for a long time now. I never chose Spanish restaurants or food in Canada as I have been disappointed many times in the past, but the food we ordered from El Mercat was really like being back home! The service has been fantastic, delivered at home. This is the second time we ordered food from them and won't be the last one. The croquetas delicious (make sure to read the instructions before cooking them so you can get the real deal hehe) and the basque cheesecake ...so yummy! Highly recommended, they really exceeded my expectations!!! Get a good bottle of Spanish wine to pair it with... y a disfrutar de comida buenísima! Muchas gracias El Mercat por traer un poquito de gastronomía española a Vancouver.
Chrystal Palaty
Chrystal Palaty: We fell in love with El Mercat Spanish food when we ordered the Valentine's day box and have been ordering from El Mercat ever since. The flavours, quality and presentation are consistently outstanding. The tortilla de patatas is my favorite and has an authentic texture - if you've been to Spain you know what I am talking about. The Sant Esteve canelons and the Basque cheesecake deserve extra stars and I am excited that gaspacho and salad ruse are now on the menu.
Carolina Ripamonti
Carolina Ripamonti: I ordered dor the first time....everything was on time, nicely presented, an delicious...the spanish tortilla was very good and homemade tasting and the iberico croquetas were just amaizing....thank you so much...el mercat 🤗🤗🤗
Gabriela Oteiza
Gabriela Oteiza: Fantastic, authentic Spanish croquetas and tortilla de patatas. The basque cheesecake is the creamiest and best cheesecake I have ever had. You can taste the quality of ingredients and the care in preparation. Good value for money and with home delivery to boot. Highly recommend.
Beatriz Gil Garzon
Beatriz Gil Garzon: I' m from Barcelona (Spain) living in Canada over 15 years now. When I heard about El Mercat I was a bit of skeptical as I thought "well one more trying to imitate Spanish cuisine". When I placed the first order and we tested for dinner at home, we couldn't give credit to the quality. Excellent food (croquetas, canelones and Basque cheesecake) . Then the Tuna Empanadas appeared yummy . The quality of the food is so good , the service and the unbeatable attention Chef Sanz is awesome. Congratulations well done. Salud !!
Marta
Marta: Its being a year and a half that I am not back to visit my family in Barcelona. This was a great discovery for me, I feel like every time I order from el Mercat I am back there (but without my mom being loud around the table)
Núria Reina
Núria Reina: I tried many goodies from El Mercat and they are all delicious. The quality of the products is amazing, full of flavour and handmade. My boyfriend has Spainish roots and he told me it was like being at home again...Can’t wait to make a new order!!
aline drivet
aline drivet: Excelente tortilla española, las croquetas son extraordinarias. Muy agradecidos y muy conmovidos, estos sabores nos han hecho viajar en el espacio y en el tiempo. Gracias.
Miquel Reina
Miquel Reina: I'm from Spain but living in Vancouver for the past 4 years and I must say this is the best and most authentic Spanish food I've tried in the city. As a Spaniard it's really hard to find authentic Spanish cuisine as there are some other options but they are quite different from Spanish food, but El Mercar really exceeded my expectations. The quality of the food, the flavour and even the presentation and delivery was amazing, very friendly stuff and It's great that the chef himself comes to your home to deliver your food. I highly recommend El Mercat for those who want to experience THE REAL SPAIN.
Becky Stewart
Becky Stewart: The presentation was beautiful but sadly the 6 different items from the menu that we ordered were, across the board, extremely bland and disappointing. We cannot recommend.

Danielle Gwilliam: Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5More
Doug Johnson
Doug Johnson: Of particular note, the serving size for the Paella Boys paella was TINY. I know it's a tapas place but the $35 you spend on the paella should be enough, in particular with a couple additional tapas. Eating paella with a wooden spoon also kills the experience. Very little protein.Inflation hits hard, but nowhere harder than here. Come happy, leave hungry.Staff seemed overly eager to upsell.
M De Luna
M De Luna: ¿Cómo? Tapería, transports you directly to Spain. The food is authentic and delicious, but a bit expensive for the food portions. Service is good, but food serving is slow, unless you order bread, cheese and ham, or something similar. The music is really loud, which I believe is on purpose, to make you eat and leave. Overall, I like the place, and love the food! I will suggest anyone to try it!

Thanks to them, my English skills have increased considerably, as a result, I got a great IELTS result being this my main goal when I decided to study here. During my journey, I attended different programs (IELTS, Global English, University Preparation) thanks to the flexibility of its programs. I am so glad to have chosen VGC no only for the professionalism of teachers but also for the administrative staff who supported me all the time (study programs, accommodation, health insurance, to mention some). Thanks, Jana, Catherine, Bianca, Adrian, Pavla -such great teachers. Aly, certainly, an awesome university programs advisor!. Also Iain, Javier and Sakiko for all the support I received. Thanks, VGC!

Luma Dórea
Luma Dórea: When I didn’t reach the IELTS grade (proof of proficiency in the English language) to attend a postgraduate course in International Business Management at Douglas College in Canada (🇨🇦), I felt powerless. While studying foreign language, still in childhood, I went through all levels from beginner to intermediate and advanced until I reached graduation, still in high school, in the 8th grade, I had the opportunity to live a year in the USA and study an academic year (in middle school).I returned to Brazil and continued studying English only at school as a compulsory subject and before the entrance exam I took the Cambridge proficiency test. And that was it ...With approximately 10 years of little use or even disuse of the foreign language, I firmly believed that speaking, reading, listening and writing in English was like riding a bicycle. Once we learned, I would never forget...my mistake ...It is true that I have not completely forgotten ... but I learned that foreign language is like physical activity, the more "sedentary" we are in practicing, the less strength we will have when we need it.Anyway, IELTS was not the last light at the end of the tunnel, I had another option to take an intensive preparatory course at a University Preparation Program, the VGC International College. I can only thank VGC and the entire academic staff of this institution, it was 2 months of intensive English classes, assessments, projects and a lot of hard work involving theory and practice, that made me leave the comfort zone and pull my capacities and skills to a higher level. Now I feel much more confident and prepared to enter another university journey and seek to achieve my professional and personal goals.Thank you very much VGC for the experience, teachings and experience in the last two months I hope you will continue helping many foreign students like me.Kind regards,Luma Santana de Souza Dórea.

Manuel Feria: Went with my gf a couple of months ago. If you dont care about the authenticity this place is ok. Nice vibe and good place to have ok drinks. If you are looking for an authentic taste of Spanish cuisine, do not eat here. I'm Spanish and I love food and this place doesnt represent the Spanish cuisine and less a loved and inspiring market like la boqueria in Barcelona. I'm sorry, as a place? Ok. As a Spanish representation? Very bad.As the best Spanish cuisine on town, I still feel bocao food truck and como on Main street are the ones to go. We commuted for 1hr to get to the restaurant and at 4pm the doors were locked even though the business hours show 4pm both online and at the door. A few minutes later a man came to the door and asked if we wanted to come in, we said yes. He said the owner told him to open at 430pm instead of 4 so he was going to call him to ask if it was okay to let us in. We said we can come in and have a drink and then wait til 430 to order food. He called the owner and then said the owner said no you can't come in. We left. Terrible customer service, we will not return and waste our time again.

Marina Cavalcante: A melhor escola de inglês do mundo, lá pude melhorar bastante meu inglês, com vários professores incríveis. Conheci pessoas e culturas de muitos lugares diferentes. Marcelo Lyra: I am having an amazing experience at Sprott Shaw Language College in Toronto! The teachers are highly qualified and dedicated to helping students improve their English language skills. The curriculum is well-structured and challenging, and the classes are engaging and interactive. In addition, the school offers a variety of extracurricular activities that help students practice English outside of the classroom and integrate with other international students.I strongly recommend Sprott Shaw Language College to anyone who wants to learn English in a welcoming and motivating environment!

Isa Helena: I stayed for two months and it was the best experience in my life. I met wonderful friends from other countries and could learn a lot about different cultures. My Style: I studied at SSLC Vancouver for nine months. I came here literally with no English and now I am returning to my home country, Saudi Arabia, as a confident English speaker. My main purpose was to improve my English to continue my post-graduate studies in my country and to be able to write thesis in English. During my time at SSLC Vancouver, my student advisor Mr. Ilyas Kayran helped me with all my questions and he was always there when I needed support. I am grateful to all SSLC teachers and staff for making my journey a seamless one. If you are looking to improve your English in Canada, SSLC is the best language school to do it.

Arda Kul: I had a very good experience in the school. I arrived really insecure about my english, who strongly encoureged me to take the course. I had brilliant teachers, who taught me much more than english and motivated me to have deeper experinces in Vancouver. I got to know very interesting, fun and kind people from many different countries and could learn a lot about distinct cultures.I will take this experience for the rest of my life, that's for sure! All the staff at the school are friendly and understanding. everyone is very helpful.

Taise Dantas
Taise Dantas: I always wanted to learn English and have an international experience in my youth, but I couldn't. What seemed like just a dream of the past came true at the age of 50, when I completed my EPE (English Post Secondary) at SSLC Sprot Shaw in Vancouver. From the first appointment with Jorge to the conclusion of the course, it was an amazing experience of intense learning and integration with people of other nationalities. In addition to the quality of the course content, what impressed me the most was the dedication and excellence of Professor Sarah, who teaches her students masterfully in all the skills we need to develop in the English language. She really takes us to the next level and I'm so grateful for everything I've learned. I recommend it to everyone who wants to improve their English and reach new horizons.

Tanya Rochat
Tanya Rochat: Melt in your mouth tart goodness at this location, I wish the Calgary location was as good. The shell reminds me of short bread, and the filling is a warm gooey custard. Don't waist your money on the croissant, the earl grey cream was good but two bite brownie size. The cheese cake is over priced and now that I've seen the moldy reviews glad I stayed away. Can’t wait to try Edmontons next visit.
nabil samuel
nabil samuel: I bought the advertised yogurt strawberry cheesecake drink and it was such a let down. The girl literally put strawberry liquid on the bottom and filled up the cup with plain yogurt and handed it to me in 5 seconds. Not what i was expecting for $7…

?: We got three cheese tarts but wish we had got more because they are sooo good. Biting into them, they were very rich, creamy, melty, warm and just reminded you of a warm hug by the fireplace. The flavor is a sort of tangy-sweet, similar to the tang of a cheesecake but more subtle and uniquely flavorful. The tart crust is so dense and soft. Wish they weren't a bit on the pricier side but the quality can justify that anyways. Would have loved to try the Basque cheesecake if they sold it by the slice. Also, something I didn't know when I searched this place the day prior is they also sell juice drinks and icy/dessert drinks. They had a pretty nice selection!
Saksham B
Saksham B: I’d never tried a cheese tart before and it was delicious. It’s basically like a pie with warm melting cheesecake inside it, and less sweet than a regular cheesecake. It’s a little expensive for the quantity unless you buy in bulkNot a lot of seating inside and it’s a a little dirty.
Personal
Personal: This is a pure bliss. “Best cheese tart in Vancouver” is not a lie.

Jessica Cheong
Jessica Cheong: Love love love Pablo in Japan and I was hoping this place would offer something similar. I was very wrong!Bought a cheese tart at 730pm on a weekday. The tart was warm which was the only good thing about this place.Cashier looked like she didn’t want to be there. The filling was runny with a weak cheese flavor and a sour taste. The tart was quite greasy and the paper bag was soaked in oil when I was done eating it (in less than 5 min).Never again.
Sue
Sue: Just bought a pack of 6 cheese tarts. They are SO GOOD! The filling is silky and delicious. The crust is light and flaky and buttery. 😋

Kevin Chen: Souffle was nice. Shared with coworkers today. Flavour was great as i do not like alot of sweet stuff. The cake it self was moist and soft. Would come back again for sure.
keming wang
keming wang: Bought a cheese cake last night, shared one piece with my wife, an hour later, she felt nauseous and vomited once. I felt stomachache and diarrhea 3 times through the night. I took a close look at the cake this morning, found multiple mold spots on the cake. Please take a look at the pictures and think twice before you buy anything from this place.

M B
M B: Robson Street is a major southeast-northwest thoroughfare in downtown and West End of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Its core commercial blocks from Burrard Street to Jervis were also known as Robsonstrasse. Its name honours John Robson, a major figure in British Columbia's entry into the Canadian Confederation, and Premier of the province from 1889 to 1892. Robson Street starts at BC Place Stadium near the north shore of False Creek, then runs northwest past Vancouver Library Square, Robson Square and the Vancouver Art Gallery, coming to an end at Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park.As of 2006, the city of Vancouver overall had the fifth most expensive retail rental rates in the world, averaging US$135 per square foot per year, citywide. Robson Street tops Vancouver with its most expensive locations renting for up to US$200 per square foot per year. In 2006, both Robson Street and the Mink Mile on Bloor Street in Toronto were the 22nd most expensive streets in the world, with rents of $208 per square feet. In 2007, the Mink Mile and Robson slipped to 25th in the world with an average of $198 per square feet. The price of each continues to grow with Vancouver being Burberry's first Canadian location and Toronto's Yorkville neighbourhood (which is bounded on the south side by Bloor) now commanding rents of $300 per square foot.In 1895, train tracks were laid down the street, supporting a concentration of shops and restaurants. From the early to middle-late 20th century, and especially after significant immigration from postwar Germany, the northwest end of Robson Street was known as a centre of German culture and commerce in Vancouver, earning the nickname Robsonstrasse, even among non-Germans (this name lives on in the Robsonstrasse Hotel on the street). At one time, the city had placed streetsigns reading "Robsonstrasse" though these were placed after the German presence in the area had largely vanished.Robson Street was featured on an old edition of the Canadian Monopoly board as one of the two most expensive properties.Robson Street's role as a consumer district continues to the present day although the original flavour of the street, which was all small neighbourhood-market stores, has been supplanted by massive redevelopment by brand-name chain stores and high-end restaurants. Robson Street is particularly famous for the fashion shops and dining which extends from Granville Street in the southeast to Denman Street in the northwest, with the main concentration centred between Burrard and Bute Streets, which is the area also known historically as Robsonstrasse.Although not technically on Robson Street but still considered part of the district, Burrard Street near Robson in addition to the areas of Alberni and Georgia Streets that cross near Burrard contain the most expensive upscale stores in the city. The street's intersection with Thurlow Street was known for having two Starbucks coffee shops on opposite corners, one of which was non-smoking prior to the enactment of the indoor smoking ban, and the other not. The location on the west corner is known as a major meeting place for the biker culture, with motorcycles parked in a special bikes-only strip of parking painted on the pavement. It was also this corner of Robson and Thurlow that acted as the epicentre of the Stanley Cup Riot of 1994.There are numerous highrises along or near Robson, many of them condo towers and hotels. The Empire Landmark Hotel, originally the Sheraton Landmark, is the tallest highrise on the strip at 42 storeys. It includes the Cloud Nine revolving restaurant.Robson Street is also popular as a cruising street, with many exotic, rare cars and motorcycles present every weekend throughout the summer.Robson street has Stanley Park at one end and BC Place with Terry Fox plaza at the other end. Terry Fox plaza was redesigned by Douglas Coupland.Robson street is named after John Robson who was a Canadian journalist and politician, who served as the ninth Premier of the Province of British Columbia. Born August 1824, died June 1892.
