4worldlovers: Since 1978, City Farmer has been teaching people how to grow food in the city, compost their waste and take care of their home landscape in an environmentally responsible way. Fashion models, computer geeks, politicians, lawyers, teachers, chefs – all city dwellers – all can grow food at home after work in backyards, community gardens or on flat roofs. For four decades City Farmer has encouraged urban dwellers to pull up a patch of lawn and plant some vegetables, herbs and fruit. Our message is the same today as it was in 1978 and will be relevant far into the future.

So we started with a plot in a neighbour’s yard

Bill Reid’s clay can be seen on the surface of our cob shed. His long time associate, Sculptor, George Rammell, came by one day and loved our work so much that he donated it to us.

Early in the morning yesterday, I came to work very early and was startled to hear loud rustling in the leaves above the pergola. Bandits!!

During the summer of 2016, metal artist Davide Pan created a new window/gate at the Compost Garden. Most striking in the assemblage are parts from the century old railway, such as spikes left behind by the crews who took up the old tracks.

The youngest children are excited by worms and our fairy garden, volunteers happily pull out buttercups and are refreshed by the time they leave, students from elementary schools and universities take away ideas.

We love taking photos of what we see every day at the garden. Plants emerging from the ground, racoons stealing our grapes, a visitor leaving with a worm bin on the back of her bike...
