White Dwarf Books, Dead Write Books: what do users think?
Patrick Swan
Patrick Swan: The older sister unit came to town for a visit and picked this book store a specific destination. Although I did not personally purchase anything, the owners were on point in their recommendations for everything my sister brought up as a point of interest. If you like science fiction or fantasy, this is the bookstore you want to go to. Also, I love that dog.
Warren Woodhurst
Warren Woodhurst: Good selection and if they dont have something they're more than happy to order things in for you. If you like Sci Fi or Fantasy, this is a great place to shop.
Nico Smith
Nico Smith: An absolutely massive inventory of mass market paperback fantasy and science fiction books. Holy cow. You’ll find hardbacks in the New Releases section.
N Fitz
N Fitz: Excellent science fiction and fantasy selection. One of the best in the entire country.I make a point of stopping by when I'm in Vancouver.Lots of new stuff. But if you look closely at their many shelves, you'll seen many older and long out-of-print paperbacks as well!
Hxnnah UωU
Hxnnah UωU: Very nice people! Super good books
Wesley Prahalad
Wesley Prahalad: Amazing friendly staff. Great energy in the store itself. They really helped with some recommendations . If youre a speculative fiction fan u gotta visit !
Camille Dinesen

Jean-Francois Lacroix
Jean-Francois Lacroix: Nice place! Lot of book! Really nice place for science-fiction, fantasy and mystery novel! The owners are great!
Ashley Lambert-Maberly
Ashley Lambert-Maberly: I've been going for years (they used to have two separate locations, one for mystery, one for fantasy/SF before they merged) and wow, what a wonderful shop! The owners have an amazing memory, they will get to know you and your taste—they can usually recall "you liked so-and-so, didn't you?" and make recommendations for new books based on your tastes and not necessarily theirs. They'll even steer you away from books they don't think you'll like (although they aren't really losing a sale; I imagine most customers are like me, and buy something else instead). It's small but mighty—filled with volumes—and there's always something new to discover. A favourite place in town (if I go more than four weeks without popping in, I make a point of a special trip!)
Olivia Dreisinger
Olivia Dreisinger: Really amazing place. So much character to the space and the owners are so nice. If you want a book they don't have in stock, they easily order it in for you. Super communicate and efficient.
conskeez novaskeez
conskeez novaskeez: I went in randomly because I was working out front. Gave him a little rundown of what I like to read, and he pointed me in the right direction. I hadn't read books In years and now I can't put them down 🤘
Brenda Carre
Brenda Carre: This is a great bookstore with friendly and helpful staff.
Wanda Coallier
Wanda Coallier: They have a great selection of books and can order in just about anything. I’m lucky I live so close by, I have been going in for a new book every other week it feels like. Lots of newly released and popular books on display to help you find something new.
David Tindall
David Tindall: This is one of the treasures of the west side of Vancover!
Dyllan Goldstein
Dyllan Goldstein: Amazing selection if sci-fi and fantasy. Almost all my favourite reads in the past decade have come from the owners. I reccomend this store to all my friends and family.Plus, what's better than getting a good book and a cinibon from around the corner? As a side note they seem to take COVID seriously, so only a few people with masks are allowed in at a time. Nice to see the owners being safe
Barry Simunovic
Barry Simunovic: These guys are the best, awesome selection and they can order in anything you want. Super friendly!
Heather Babcock
Heather Babcock: Great selection for mystery and sci fi/fantasy with knowledgable owners.
robert rothon
robert rothon: Knowledgeable owners. Excellent stock in both genres. Small retail space with narrow aisles, so masks strongly recommended in these COVID times.
Johnny Doubles
Johnny Doubles: Always very helpful with great suggestions!
Jim McPherson
Jim McPherson: A reliable source for new and recent sci Fi, fantasy and mystery novels and collections. Can order anything in the field. Knowledgeable and friendly. Carries a selection of phantacea mythos publicatios
Adam
Adam: Great selection for such a little store! I was supremely impressed. I’ll absolutely be back once I’ve devoured the books I bought on my most recent visit.

MikeGonzales84: Great book store. Indigenous owned. Great selection. Easy to find. Definitely recommend visiting. I will be returning and getting a few more books at a later date.
Jesse Byiers
Jesse Byiers: My favourite book store in the city. Phenomenal selection of fiction, poetry and indigenous lit as well as extensive reads on queer, gender and sexwork. With art and drama works upstairs that doubles as a gallery from time to time I can get lost in this store for endless hours.
Sofia Lowenstein
Sofia Lowenstein: Really good selection of books if you're into socioeconomic issues. It also has a good selection of local authors, authors of colour, indigenous authors, and topics of all kinds. Just overall amazing selection and atmosphere and wonderful staff.
Chiara Berton
Chiara Berton: A very nice and cosy book store. I was very excited about the secret room behind a bookshelf. There is a great selection of books, also second-hand books. The only thing is that some books are to high placed to even look at.
Mary S
Mary S: Really great selection but man o man are they expensive. Not for the budget conscious 😭
David Jolivet
David Jolivet: Easily accessable by wheel chair, Or scooter, parking no problems accessable for mobile or whwel chair devices as well. Friendly staff, who are very eager to help if you need assistance in finding your book. Kid friendly and any book you want you'll get it here.great place its a really good business in Vancouver.
Rachel W
Rachel W: I came in specifically to ask for recommendations on some very niche topics. The staff compiled a whole list of recommendations (some of which weren’t even sold in the store) with zero sales pressure.. Extremely cool and knowledgeable bunch of people. Plus, over a certain price you can get a discount or you can donate it to the Massy Arts fund. Massy is an Indigenous owned and operated bookstore—very important, and so thankful to have this gem in town.
Travis Amyott
Travis Amyott: Charming book store, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Fun to explore, and get lost in. Easy to order books, if they do not have in stock; they are happy to also redirect you to another store if it's a better option. Welcoming to all :).
Effie S
Effie S: This is an example of an excellent book store. We are big collectors, and though we had less interest in the general selection, the rare books in the locked glass case were a delight to look at. The staff also didn't hound us or monitor us while we examined all the books and we took our time doing so (we inspect books quite meticulously). Once we selected the books, we returned to pay. A rare book set we recognized had just come out of a box and was being prepared to be priced. We inquired about it and even though it had not been put on the floor, it was offered to us on the spot and at an excellent price. We really appreciated that, that the staff were so friendly and accommodating, and also they gave us a nice tote for free to protect the box set. Will certainly stop in again on our next visit to this city.
Julie
Julie: Favourite bookstore in vancouver!Very cozy, neat and it has various kind of books about gender, indigenous people, and LGBTQ+.Reasonable prices for second-hand books, they are almost new.
FancyChristine
FancyChristine: Massy books is a great space, and the staff are friendly and professional. I appreciate the large selection of books about Indigenous people, places and histories, it’s a very community-focused store, and I feel safe shopping there. The preorder process is easy, and I appreciate how it currently includes the option to make donations. Very grateful for Massy Books!
Gray Elf
Gray Elf: Well curated book selection, art showcase, caring for employees, Indigenous owned, central location.... What are you waiting for? Get yourself to Massy!
Taryn Peterson
Taryn Peterson: Indigenous owned wonderful bookstore with a secret room 🤩 would reccomend.
Elsi Dawson
Elsi Dawson: Always welcoming, so helpful. Staff are knowledgeable, non-judgmental, and genuinely warm. Every time I'm here, I see interactions with the wider community that makes me proud to call this my local bookstore.
Duncan McIntyre
Duncan McIntyre: Extremely well-read staff members give the most thoughtful recommendations. Amazing selection. A must-visit - an experience like no other!
Soefae Chen
Soefae Chen: I visited Massy Books with a friend recently. The moment I stepped in, I was greeted by two very friendly employees, one of which complimented my makeup, which made my day. I am very impressed with this bookstore as it has many sections promoting authors that don’t get as much recognition as they deserve, such as Indigenous authors. The bookstore interior is very tidy and organized. There is even a secret room hidden behind a bookshelf, which was quite a surprise :) Overall, would reccomend!
Jui-Ting Hsu
Jui-Ting Hsu: An incredible treasure of books, of all parchment and genres, housed in a small enclosure within Chinatown. Peruse the sections, or - if you so choose - visit the website to discover new and welcome recommendations!
Marissa Jolin-Dobbin Lim
Marissa Jolin-Dobbin Lim: Amazing selection and service
M
M: Great selection of used books, wonderful service and fantastic prices.

PanBeh Bookstore کتابفروشی پان به: what do users think?
Hossein Meimani
Hossein Meimani: Was told about this store by my producer for a shoot. I spent a few hours there on the day of the shoot and browsed the titles they carry during our down time. I don’t think I came across a single book that I didn’t find intriguing. They have great standards - topic range and quality of the material for each topic - for what they have placed on their shelves and it shows. The mosaic that is Vancouver could really use such high quality spots for each community.
Peyvand
Peyvand: Lovely Persian books here! I'm glad we have this in the Vancouver! I hope they organize a book Cafe for good discussions sometime soon.
Nasrin Moradinik
Nasrin Moradinik: You may find a variety of books in a small store and order the books you are looking for, and the gentleman there can usually provide them. You might order online through their website as well.Overall, I love this place.

Payam Vaziri
Payam Vaziri: I found this gem of a bookstore today when I was trying to find a good book for my brother's Birthday. Wow, I'm so happy so see a great store with an excellent guide who helped me pick the right book for the occasion. They also have a great selection of Persian books for kids. I was able to find some classics like Mimini there and I found a couple of new books which seem great. One is called "Maman Bia, Jeesh Daram" 🤣🤣 I hope it helps us with potty training our toddler. If you're looking for a Farsi book for yourself or you're trying to buy something special for your Persian friends, this is definitely a place to check out.
Kazem Naderi
Kazem Naderi: My comments here might be more detailed than others since I was sharing an office with Panbeh and was observing the business operation very closely. PanBeh bookstore has a very diverse collection of books in Farsi. Panbeh, even though, is not a none profit, it really runs like a none profit as his owner simply runs Panebeh for his passion to make it possible for farsi speaking people in Canada have access to farsi literature.PanBeh customer service is exceptional. I have wittnessed so many times that its founder goes extra miles to meet his client's expectations.
Najlla Hafizi
Najlla Hafizi: Amazing collection of Persian (Iranian/Farsi) books and friendly customer service 👍Hundred percent recommended.
nur rashidi
nur rashidi: Excellent selection of books for young children. Reasonable prices and friendly staff.

Ab Cd: Moving to Vancouver, I couldn't bring my Hafiz with me ( I had five back home), so I was like I have to buy one all this time. Luckily I came across PanBeh bookstore. He is welcoming and knowledgeable. He showed me many versions of the book and made sure I get a good price for the one I liked. Also if you are a Farsi speaker, regardless of your nationality, here is good place to stay connected with dear mother language. There are so many kids books as well. Come and visit you won't regret.
Sadaf Hajaghasi
Sadaf Hajaghasi: I’m so excited that we have a persian book store in Vancouver! Lots of books with different variety including kids, poems, stories… The owner is very nice and knowledgeable. You can make prints and graphics there too.

Veronica Zayas
Veronica Zayas: If you enjoy reading, this is your place. They have a huge amount of books from many different categories and they are second hand which makes them much cheaper and in very good conditions. You have to look a little if you want to find anything in particular but you´ll enjoy looking around and can find so many things.
stephen wilde
stephen wilde: wonder the isles. step over the piles. even if you’re not looking for a book and just want one of the best visual historic vancouver (not yet torn down made into cheap/expensive condos) experiences, you will find a book to purchase!!!
Geoff DeLuca

Kris Toijonen
Kris Toijonen: Friendly service, and a wide selection of most everything!
SN

Reggie Johnson
Reggie Johnson: Incredibly rude staff
Karena Lindstrom
Karena Lindstrom: Very cool used bookstore, literally filled to the brim with books on many topics. There was a wide selection of old, hardcover titles. The staff were friendly and helpful for locating areas within the shop on a certain topic/genre.
Eric Saczuk
Eric Saczuk: A true literary treasure trove...if you can look past the disorganized mess. Super helpful staff who seem to know everything about each book you pick up.
Gregory Devine
Gregory Devine: Everything you want a bookstore to be. Every time I'm in Vancouver, I visit.
Alessandro Monetti
Alessandro Monetti: Complete chaos. Piles of books everywhere making it hard to move around the store (someone knocked down piles simply by turning around). Labels on shelves don’t always match what’s on there. I’m sure there are plenty of great titles, but way too disorganized for my taste.
Henry Chen
Henry Chen: A true treasure in the city. Mountains of books here, you can find lots of interesting/unique ones. A perfect spot to spend some down time here!
Robert Cromagnon
Robert Cromagnon: Books, books, and more books! Books on shelves, books in piles, books in the window.....and staff who know exactly where to point you. The trouble is every time I pop in looking for one specific book I usually walk out with three or four more. A bibliophile's paradise!
Aaddmd Desai
Aaddmd Desai: AmazingStore
Turtles and Peace Photography
Turtles and Peace Photography: I went to Macleod’s Books to sell some of my collection. They have an incredible store with lots to choose from! The store was busy, the staff were busy, but I was greeted and dealt with quickly and respectfully! I got a fair price for my books and the ones that they didn’t buy, they said it’s because they won’t sell well. I highly recommend Macleod’s Books for buying or selling!
Julian Worker
Julian Worker: An excellent secondhand bookshop with many different sections to choose from. There's been a bit of a tidy up recently and there aren't quite as many books on the floor as there used to be but the choice is still overwhelming and you'll probably end up buying a book you didn't come into the store to buy.
Tatyana A
Tatyana A: It's an interesting bookstore, with very proactive staff, but I would not recommend going if you have anxiety. I was visiting from out of town and wanted to stop in as soon as I saw it! I went right to the desk to ask where to find culinary books, and they directed us right to it. But as I was looking around, I went to take a picture and was told off in an unnecessarily stern manner. They spoke to me as if I willfully ignored their no photography policy, but I only saw the sign after they mentioned it, as they were both by the entrance and very easy to miss amongst all the books. I apologized profusely, and repeatedly, as well as deleted the photo. But I had to spend the rest of the visit just trying to quell my anxiety rather than enjoy the store.

P D: the Paper Hound is a small precious gem of a bookstore.
Robert Barry
Robert Barry: Well kept location, cool selection, friendly owner, and a puppo in the store.!! What more do you want?
Alessandro Monetti
Alessandro Monetti: Lovely, neatly curated spot. I was looking for 3 specific books but I only needed to find 1, as I was happy to read whichever I could find first. I visited 3 much larger bookstores in the area, some of which said they had items in stock that apparently they didn’t — or couldn’t find due to chaotic [lack of] organization — I finally found one of them right here! Lots of other interesting titles here. I’ll be back the next time I’m in Vancouver!
Shirin K

Robert Cromagnon
Robert Cromagnon: Cozy space with a great overall selection inside plus a bargain cart outside. The sales staff really know their stuff too.

There are many genres including philosophy, thrillers, and novels. The shop also sells collectibles and titles published by the New York Review of Books.

I was already excited but then, after I made my purchase, I decided to browse lol.... As per usual, I found what I was looking for and then some at this the loveliest of shops!!Thank you Ron for everything and as always, it was lovely chatting and having a bit of a laugh with you, glad we've now officially introduced ourselves! Conrad Wolf
Conrad Wolf: An absolutely awesome bookstore with some great collections and loads of interesting (and well preserved books). At good prices, too. However, the owner (or whoever the elderly gentleman with no hair who sells the books is) has a horrible, horrible attitude. The last time this man cracked a smiled was probably in the 1960s. As long as he is there, I wont' be going back.
