MJ: I’m sad to write this because I had high hopes for this place but unfortunately the cut I got was a bit of a disaster. I got my hair cut here a few days ago and I was pretty skeptical when I left the salon but after going home and washing/styling it myself a few times I’m still pretty unhappy with the results. I wanted some soft, long layers and blunt bangs and what I ended up with was chunky layers and very thick choppy bangs — the layers themselves are so heavy that it makes the ends of my hair look quite stringy. I have naturally wavy hair and I don’t think this was taken into account at all. The result is very unflattering and difficult to style — I hope it grows out quickly.

Reanna Newsome: I have been getting my hair done by Meaghan since highschool. She’s a senior stylist at Citrus and also the only person I trust with my hair! I have medium-long hair, and normally get a trim with a few layers, curtain bangs, and a colour. I love the cuts she does! Meaghan’s very attentive to what the customer wants, only taking a bit off at a time, and then checking in again to see if we should go further. She also does quite literally the most amazing colouring ever. Meaghan colours my hair blonde and it looks so vibrant and amazing every time. And it grows out so wonderfully, if I know I won’t be seeing her for a few months. Every foil she places is done so thoughtfully. Jessica Charbonneau: I have been going to Citrus for years and from day one , Raana and the whole team have always gone above and beyond to make sure I am happy with my results. When I first came into the salon I had a bad mix of different colours , roots , grey , and box dye and Raana explained that to get where I wanted to be it might be a process but she would keep my hair healthy and get me where I wanted to be as fast as she could. She fixed my hair in that first appointment ! Since then I have gone back for not just colour and highlights but also extensions ( she’s incredible at what she does ) I have loved my hair every single time I’ve left and I’ve also loved the time spent there - lattes and snacks included?? N Davie: I got a haircut here on a whim with Meghan, whom I’ve never seen before. She was nice and pleasant but didn’t listen to my requests. My hair was long, with long layers. I asked for one inch off the overall length, soft long layers, with face framing layers in the front. I ended up with about four inches cut off and so many short aggressive layers that I don’t even know what to do with my hair. I am honestly embarrassed and will have to tie back my hair until these layers grow back. The short layers are so short that I can’t even style my hair with loose waves as I normally do. There’s a big difference between one inch and four inches. To all the hair stylists out there, when a client asks for one inch, please respect their request and only cut off an inch. I’m guessing it will take about six months to grow out my new mullet, I’m really upset.

My first experience was with Courtney as a model for highlights/root tap/trim, and then with John for the most precise haircut of my life. Each stylist goes through an intensive vetting and training process to ensure everyone at the salon is at the top of their class. Even when a stylist has been cutting hair for a decade at a top tier salon, they still undergo training by owner, Tim! When she was gone in the back busy chatting with a coworker, she forgot to check on my hair. Now my hair is always getting tangled at the root, not the ends (where old bleaching would be)As a women with curly hair this is a nightmare and makes brushing my hair out a WHOLE process.

Ravish Verma: Since I've been in Vancouver, for a year now, I've only ever got a hair cut from Essi, and everytime I go for a different cut and he( like someone with a magician's touch) never misses! I end up getting cuts better than I imagined. This has never been the case prior to this and I would highly recommend Essi's to anyone who likes changing styles often or even who doesn't. I booked an online appointment with Julia Rybachok. I can’t say enough about the service I received from Julia. Before we even began, she listened carefully about what I wanted and how I currently style my hair. I had a couple of pics on my phone as a general example. She gave the most wonderful wash and head massage, then she was amazingly precise with her cutting techniques.She is also very pleasant and sweet.To me, the tell tale of a good cut is not what you look like when you leave the salon but how easy your hair is to manage once you are home. My blond balayage had grown out so I wanted him to touch up the roots and blend it into a brown balayage. I showed him an exact picture of what I wanted and he told me that this was something he could do. I left the session very disappointed. The roots of my hair was left the same, my blond colour was gone and my hair was a lot darker than I wanted (I have black asian hair so now it looks like I didn't even get my hair coloured). Victoria Boulet: Stylist was very sweet but so far not very happy with my hair. The highlights are bright silver (wanted something natural) and a bit stripey. Toner was left on way too long while starting another client's hair (close to an hour), my hair looks very grey now. Hoping the grey-cast improves after a couple washes. The January promotion was supposed to include a cut also but my stylist didn’t have time to clean up my ends after bleaching. I do have long/thick hair but I let them know in advance and came in early so we’d have extra time. Left the appointment feeling disappointed and rushed, hair feels frizzy/dry too. He was disrespectful in multiple ways from the minute I walked in. I ended up leaving because of his garbage attitude and thank god I did. If you have the patience of a 3 year old and no professionalism or creative ability, it's time to find a new career.Whatever you do, do yourself a favour and see literally anyone else for your hair. NOH FORM: I am blown away!! I have been following my stylist, Gerald Lam, around Vancouver for almost 20 years! He is a Wizard when it comes to the chemistry of hair color! And, I admit it: I’m a bit vain when it’s all about my hair!! Gerald has always done deep research into the magic of hair color. He’s mixed up custom recipes for me and they’ve always been amazing. But dealing with the first week of purples, reds going down the drain, pink gel nails, seemed a high price to pay for vanity. So! When Gerald moved to Juju’s I followed faithfully. (Though I have to say I’m fuckwitted when it comes to finding my way in underground parking!) I expected the usual color treatment but, no: Gerald always keeps up on the latest products. And HOLY!!! This new, non-ammonia hair color from Italy not only gave my hair the most beautiful shine and rich, deep color, it REFUSES to fade and very little turned my shower or my nails shocking pink!! It’s now been almost 6 weeks since my treatment and the color and texture is amazing. The only thing that will drive me back is the whack of silver starting to glare through!!So yes! I’m blown away that Gerald can still pull amazing tricks out of his genius hat! Gerald is a kind, professional and creative stylist. He is concerned about his clients health and well being and his use of the non-ammonia products reflects this.I’m a very happy customer and so pleased that I’ll brave the hassle of driving downtown. Carley Ontkean: I was very nervous and excited to get my haircut for the first time after many years of trimming it myself, since my previous stylist moved away. I have curly hair and have been trying to grow it out. I made sure to say keep as much length as possible, just clean up the ends a bit and add some better shape. During the cut I wasn't even facing the mirror I was looking out the window so I couldn't see what was happening. I tried to have some light conversation as I was anxious about getting a cut and needed to calm my nerves. Josh gave no interest in trying to talk to me or check in with how I was feeling about the cut (since I couldn't even see the progress for myself). I have never been more upset with the outcome of a haircut. I lost most of the little length I'd managed to maintain and can no longer even braid my hair which is my go to hairstyle. I felt very uncomfortable throughout the whole process and 100$ later couldn't wait to leave. I am a bridesmaid in my friends wedding next month and am now dreading how I will look for this special occasion. Very disappointing experience.Service:Curly hair
Marie Bui: This review is to specifically shout out to Brooklyn - I have had white hairs growing in for the past decade or so (I'm 33, maybe 10% grey) and every stylist I have gone to has made some kind of comment about it, without me prompting the conversation. Though the sentiment is usually about how to cover it up, one stylist even tried to empower me once, referring to them as my "silver sparkles". After about a dozen stylists over the decade (including two others from this salon), Brooklyn is the first to not make a comment about my natural hair colour or try to get me to change it, and just makes my hair cut visits comfortable. Some small conversation, but not too much either, and never about any "concerns" unless I initiate the conversation. This was big for me. She is friendly and accommodating, and makes the process feel collaborative, making sure to check in that I am on board with the decisions throughout the process. Thank you.

Mary Zhang: Got my hair done here a few months ago and only now getting around to reviewing. Ashley is one of the best colorist I’ve had in my 4 years of coloring my hair! I was traveling from out of town and desperately needed a hair touch up before my graduation ceremony, none of the salons back in my hometown could accommodate me before the ceremony. I called around Vancouver a bit and another salon actually suggested I try Poppy. Very nice on the phone, fit me in pretty last minute and without needing a consultation session (which I couldn’t fit in with my trip itinerary). Ashley did an amazing job touching up my balayage. Even though it was her first time working on my hair, she did work that’s comparable to my go-to stylist back home and for less cost! If I’m ever in Vancouver and in need of hair services I’m definitely coming back here!
