Carley Ontkean: I was very nervous and excited to get my haircut for the first time after many years of trimming it myself, since my previous stylist moved away. I have curly hair and have been trying to grow it out. I made sure to say keep as much length as possible, just clean up the ends a bit and add some better shape. During the cut I wasn't even facing the mirror I was looking out the window so I couldn't see what was happening. I tried to have some light conversation as I was anxious about getting a cut and needed to calm my nerves. Josh gave no interest in trying to talk to me or check in with how I was feeling about the cut (since I couldn't even see the progress for myself). I have never been more upset with the outcome of a haircut. I lost most of the little length I'd managed to maintain and can no longer even braid my hair which is my go to hairstyle. I felt very uncomfortable throughout the whole process and 100$ later couldn't wait to leave. Marie Bui: This review is to specifically shout out to Brooklyn - I have had white hairs growing in for the past decade or so (I'm 33, maybe 10% grey) and every stylist I have gone to has made some kind of comment about it, without me prompting the conversation. Though the sentiment is usually about how to cover it up, one stylist even tried to empower me once, referring to them as my "silver sparkles". After about a dozen stylists over the decade (including two others from this salon), Brooklyn is the first to not make a comment about my natural hair colour or try to get me to change it, and just makes my hair cut visits comfortable. Some small conversation, but not too much either, and never about any "concerns" unless I initiate the conversation. This was big for me. She is friendly and accommodating, and makes the process feel collaborative, making sure to check in that I am on board with the decisions throughout the process. Thank you.

Mary Zhang: Got my hair done here a few months ago and only now getting around to reviewing. Ashley is one of the best colorist I’ve had in my 4 years of coloring my hair! I was traveling from out of town and desperately needed a hair touch up before my graduation ceremony, none of the salons back in my hometown could accommodate me before the ceremony. I called around Vancouver a bit and another salon actually suggested I try Poppy. Very nice on the phone, fit me in pretty last minute and without needing a consultation session (which I couldn’t fit in with my trip itinerary). Ashley did an amazing job touching up my balayage. Even though it was her first time working on my hair, she did work that’s comparable to my go-to stylist back home and for less cost! If I’m ever in Vancouver and in need of hair services I’m definitely coming back here!

Audrey Standish: Went to Josh to get a cut and highlights, and described what I wanted to him- I was thinking either bob length or just past my shoulders, he instead said that we weren’t doing either and would cut my hair to about breast length saying that if I wanted to get it any shorter I would have to book another appointment, which I thought was weird since I didn’t know there was a limit to length of hair you can cut per haircut appointment- after he said that’s what we are doing he didn’t say a word to me and made me feel like I was another chore before he was done for the day. Today I went for consultation and the receptionist was good and told let me see if they can just look at your hair and I told I am okay to wait. She went and spoke to the owner and he was so rude and in impolite tone he told the receptionist “no we don’t do walk in and she has to take appointment”.So why he didn’t tell me that when he asked me to. come? He could have been polite and said “let me see if I can once I am done with this client” or may be something else. There is always nice ways to say NO.I was sitting on one of the tiny 4inch wall which is not meant to sit but I did as I had walked all the way to their salon. MJ: I’m sad to write this because I had high hopes for this place but unfortunately the cut I got was a bit of a disaster. I got my hair cut here a few days ago and I was pretty skeptical when I left the salon but after going home and washing/styling it myself a few times I’m still pretty unhappy with the results. I wanted some soft, long layers and blunt bangs and what I ended up with was chunky layers and very thick choppy bangs — the layers themselves are so heavy that it makes the ends of my hair look quite stringy. I have naturally wavy hair and I don’t think this was taken into account at all. The result is very unflattering and difficult to style — I hope it grows out quickly.

Reanna Newsome: I have been getting my hair done by Meaghan since highschool. She’s a senior stylist at Citrus and also the only person I trust with my hair! I have medium-long hair, and normally get a trim with a few layers, curtain bangs, and a colour. I love the cuts she does! Meaghan’s very attentive to what the customer wants, only taking a bit off at a time, and then checking in again to see if we should go further. She also does quite literally the most amazing colouring ever. Meaghan colours my hair blonde and it looks so vibrant and amazing every time. N Davie: I got a haircut here on a whim with Meghan, whom I’ve never seen before. She was nice and pleasant but didn’t listen to my requests. My hair was long, with long layers. I asked for one inch off the overall length, soft long layers, with face framing layers in the front. I ended up with about four inches cut off and so many short aggressive layers that I don’t even know what to do with my hair. I am honestly embarrassed and will have to tie back my hair until these layers grow back. The short layers are so short that I can’t even style my hair with loose waves as I normally do. There’s a big difference between one inch and four inches. To all the hair stylists out there, when a client asks for one inch, please respect their request and only cut off an inch. I’m guessing it will take about six months to grow out my new mullet, I’m really upset.

Yanko Zhelyazkov: I know what I was getting into when I went for a junior stylist. The haircut was decent for the price point. The real problem is that after making a complaint about the service two days later about my neck hurting and being red as a cut watermelon on a hot summer day due to improper use of basic tooling, I did not even get a courtesy call from the manager. I understand that people do need experience but after months of schooling and months of prior experience using a regular hair clipper on the upside down is not something I should be directing the stylist not to do. I do not think anyone should go through what I went and not get even an apology. It does not matter whose fault it was and whether my complaint was lost. That's all simple management and customer service that's obviously lacking here.Don't expect much if things don't work out for you. Pay and go away.Service:Hairstyling

Elizabeth Hills: I never write reviews but and hoped I would find the positives in my haircut but I just haven't. I came in and asked for a trim to remove any damaged hair, layering and to trim my curtain bangs. I had asked for my bangs to be cut so they would hang between my cheek bone and chin. Unfortunately, the chair was sat below the mirror so I couldn't see the cut until she was done. After the cut, my bangs fall just below my chin and there are no layers at all in my hair. It honestly looks worse than it did before the. I was confused because my request was not complicated and I thought I had been clear. Really feel like I wasted my money.

Namita DigheShetty: I am actually really late on putting this review out there, but I have sat on this for a very long time and I really feel like others should know what to expect. I am rating this so low because I feel like I was really not fairly served.I had booked an appointment for a haircut right before my trip to India. I needed by hair length to be long because I was getting married in 2 weeks. I had damaged ends and needed those trimmed off too. I understand that the stylist did have limitations, but I think this is where I feel like "responsible service" is expected.Instead all I got was maybe about 5 minutes of actual haircutting. Rest of the hour was - talking about how great my hair texture is, volume of my hair, her personal life, and how people often think "haircuts are about how long it takes to cut, but you must also know when NOT to cut and thats the skill too!!" Im a pushover, and very shy, and I was being observant and objective, after all I was needing the length.I was then given a hair wash, and a good massage and possibly a treatment. I was pitched to use products that she does sell (living proof brand) - all of which are not services I requested for.She did tell me if I was not happy with the cut I could come back - which was irrelevant to me because I was leaving for India the same week and needed the cut for this specific event.After my first wash, I had already seen several split ends. It was literally the biggest waste of $$. I think if as a stylist you feel like you can't do much for the customer's hair, just respectfully tell them that (refuse to cut), or be responsible and charge a lower amount because all you are doing is trimming their ends (obviously in this case that was not even done well.. that's what 5 mins does). I can wash my own hair, condition it, get a friend to give me a head massage... I didn't come to curly hair vancouver for $100+ head massage!! Curly hair people have a hard time finding people that can handler their hair, and posting yourself as someone who understands that but then not providing a good service is really misleading and unfair. Im sure she is very good with dealing with caucasian textured curly hair.. I do not think she understands all types of hair that are curly.Not that one shouldn't take service from her. But just keep in mind that you might end up paying for extra services you did not ask for rather than you hair cut.

I have had weird experiences with hair dresses—none with Josh. I love Josh. He gives me what I ask for, and I walk away looking fabulous. I highly recommend this place and Josh. I am rating this place five stars, and I would give it more stars if I could. The area is a good place, I don't drive, but the number 3 bus drops me right off at the door. The other staff member is also super friendly, constantly checking in to see if you need anything.

Monisha Sharma: I had a horrible experience here. I was a returning client and initially had a wonderful experience at Trim Hair Salon. I recently decided to get my hair coloured again by Brooke and it was not what I asked for. The picture I showed Brooke was a deep brown colour. What I got was blondish/light brown hair. I paid over $250 for hair that I did not ask for and it was damaged due to the excessive bleaching, that was not necessary. Not only was my hair not the colour I asked for, but Brooke blow dried my hair after and was going to let me walk out the salon with puffy, damaged hair. She proceeded to tell me that hair straightening will be an additional $15. Considering how horrible it looked, I agreed thinking it may look better, and it didn't. My hair is now fried and dead. I'm so upset because I thought I finally found a salon that was perfect. I am now dealing with extremely damaged hair which I paid so much money for. If you want a good hair salon, please go elsewhere and save your hair and wallet the damage.

Ena Point: I used to live and work on Main Street so I started to go to TRIM when it opened. I moved away and have not been back in about 6 years. I was surprised to see it was under different management but I really enjoyed the same calm soothing environment. The staff were all very nice and my hairdresser, Brooke really listened to what I was hoping for and bounced some ideas with me. It was great to engage in open and genuine conversations while I was there for a couple of hours. One thing I really enjoyed was their complimentary hand scrub treatment!
