Top Dog Canine Training: what do users think?
Julieta Dey
Julieta Dey: Our pup Lucy has been in a beginner’s class with Jen since she was 4 months old. The structure we have been able to give her through what we have learned together has already began to set her up with the foundation necessary for us to provide her with a happier and more fulfilling life! We have already recommended Jen to our friends and community and look forward to continuing to work with her.
Maggan Sandhu
Maggan Sandhu: I contacted Jennifer for help with a reactive rescue pup who I was having trouble with. Jennifer was quick to respond, and she was incredibly thoughtful and caring. Jennifer clearly holds a wealth of knowledge in the field and I appreciate her efficiency and her genuine desire to help me and my pup!
Justine Chen
Justine Chen: Jen completely transformed our dog basil. Basil was a really reactive dog after an incident at an dog park. After 2 private sessions and a group class basil is now able to loose leash walk and ignore other dogs and people.Jen is friendly and always gives clear and concise instructions that are easy to follow. She has an amazing ability to pin point exactly what your dog needs and how you need to act to help you reach your goals.
Jena Smith
Jena Smith: Jen is amazing!! I took her basic obedience course and it helped me and my puppy so much. Our relationship and her respect for me has strengthened tremendously.Jen is super knowledgeable and I could tell from the very first class that her methods work. I wish I had found her sooner! I’m looking forward to taking more classes with her and I would highly recommend her courses for all dogs and owners.
Juliana Gibbons
Juliana Gibbons: We had an amazing experience with Jenn. She’s extremely knowledgeable and her guidance and support were crucial in helping our puppy navigate our world! Our puppy is a better dog because of her. We did the puppy kindergarten class and will continue onto the next class. We brought our dog at 12 weeks old, perfect age to start the training. We would highly recommend her to anyone who’s looking for an excellent dog trainer.
Trena Hollands
Trena Hollands: Jennifer came recommended to me as someone who could help me with my very rambunctious puppy, and from the moment I contacted her she has gone above and beyond. Her classes have, without a doubt been pivotal in building a strong bond between myself and my dog. With so many conflicting modalities and opinions out there on how best to train your dog, having Jennifer’s classes and advice was truly such a relief. I would not hesitate in recommending Jennifer and her Top Dog classes to any dog owner!!!
Mackenzie Friesen
Mackenzie Friesen: We loveJen! My fiancé and I took our English Cocker Spaniel (Dasher) to both puppy kindergarten and beginner obedience. Thanks to all of Jen‘s knowledge we feed Dasher high quality food, reinforce good behaviour with high value treats and were referred to an amazing vet who has helped Dasher with chronic digestive issues. Jen truly goes above and beyond. She is available to us via text and phone call support (she’s heard me cry so many times haha). Dasher’s behaviour and health has improved greatly and we have Jen to thank! We highly recommend Top Dog Canine Training!
Peggy Mc Lay
Peggy Mc Lay: My young dog and I started lessons with Jennifer in the hopes that my feisty dog would start behaving. Jennifer taught me how to work my challenging dog with great success. My dog progressed so well that we started competing and winning in rally obedience.I am so thankful to Jennifer! My dog is now very well behaved and a joy to be with!
Irene Chu
Irene Chu: Do not like a trainer that recommends about vaccine or diet.
Eric Rallison
Eric Rallison: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Reliability,ValueOutstanding training for dog and owner.
Sue Friesen
Sue Friesen: Tucker just finished the Basic Obedience class with Jennifer and she is, in short, a miracle worker. We started with Tucker pulling so hard on his leash that walks were a chore and stressful. They are now a relaxing joy at the end of my day. It's a great feeling to take him for a walk and when we come across other dog owners who have seen him grow up and get comments and compliments on how well behaved he as become. Thanks so much Jennifer for giving us the tools to be a great team. Onward to Intermediate Obedience and getting that recall command down pat.
Nicole Lee
Nicole Lee: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Reliability,Responsiveness,ValueJennifer is the best dog trainer I have ever met. After a single private lesson she fixed my dog's reactivity, aggression, and leash problems. She answered my millions of questions and asked I keep in touch with my dog's progress.
Scott Davidson
Scott Davidson: We took our German Shepard/Boxer to Jen's beginner obedience class and the difference from start to finish was night and day. Before the class, he couldn't be within 15 feet of another dog without him going ballistic. We could barely walk him around our neighborhood without him pulling us down the road and it was beyond stressful.Jen is a dog whisperer. Within a couple of minutes, she had our reactive dog's full trust, and shortly after that we had him walking completely normally. By the end of the classes he was able to be within two feet of other dogs without losing it at all.Really glad we found someone who was able to work with us!
Christine Schleppe
Christine Schleppe: We are currently taking Puppy Kindergarten with Jen. She was highly recommended to us by a friend and I will be highly recommending her to my friends. Our puppy has learned so much (and so have I) in her class. She is positive, patient and highly responsive. She's obviously very experienced and loves dogs. I'm so impressed with how much improvement we've had in a very short time. Thank you, Jen!
Marco Chan
Marco Chan: Amazing trainer and puppy class! We’ve just finished the 6 week puppy class with our Shiba Inu and we couldn’t be happier. Finding the right trainer in the early weeks for our puppy was critical since Shibas are notoriously difficult to train.Jen is excellent - knowledgeable, professional and firm. She works extremely hard and goes above & beyond to offer help and guidance. 10/10, highly recommend!
Shauna de Guzman
Shauna de Guzman: My husband and I have done both the Puppy Kindergarten and Beginner 1 class with Jen for our mini dachshund, Buko. Dachshunds are known to be stubborn and hard to train, but the training tips Jen gave us helped us keep Buko engaged and for the most part obedient (she still is a dachshund, of course). Jen went above and beyond, both during and outside of class hours, to answer any questions we had. The most helpful that wasn't included in either of the classes was dealing with resource guarding of bully sticks early on. She even predicted Buko's heat coming, which definitely helped us prepare for it.I highly recommend Jen if you've got a new puppy - and try to enroll when they're young (we started Puppy Kindergarten at 11 weeks). I get compliments about how well Buko is socialized and how good she is, and I truly believe we have Jen to thank for that!
Johnny Yip
Johnny Yip: We bought a GSD when she was 10 weeks old and wanted her to socialize early with different people and dogs. We found Jennifer on Google and thought it was a good idea since it the price was good for 6 weeks. My GSD has fear aggression and lacked confidence with other dogs (something we found out with another trainer). My puppy would try and lunge at other puppies in the class and bark excessively at Jennifer’s cocker spaniel. Jennifer kept telling us that our puppy needed help from her friend, and that she will MOST definitely be aggressive later on. Every class she makes us feel more stressed than the last. We long found another trainer that has helped her with everything she needed, she can even go on off leash walks with different dogs now(picture below). I think Jennifer is good for small pets but not dogs with high drive.
C Mizuguchi CM
C Mizuguchi CM: Great puppy class! We have had other dogs but the first time taking a class. I can’t believe how much we’ve learned! Our puppy Indy is pretty shy and Jen’s puppy class just brought him out of his shell. We really looked forward to them every week! It’s obvious that Jen really cares about each pup and really wants them to succeed. She gave so much individual attention to everyone. You can email her with questions and she is so helpful! The class wasn’t intimidating at all just a lot of fun for us and our pup. It was really easy to continue with the training during the week because of the class notes that were emailed to us. Highly recommend Jen, her style is laid back and the classes are fun!
Wes Lin
Wes Lin: We had been bouncing back and forth between various dog training centres until we found Jen on Google. She is an exceptional trainer who was the first one who actually understood our dog's breed and give valuable advice that worked. She is very confident in what she does and professional at all times, with very quick e-mail response times. Don't waste your time anywhere else!
Maxime Nouet
Maxime Nouet: I’ve taken puppy kindergarten and obedience level 1 with Jennifer and can only recommend her.Jennifer is very professional in her approach and has a clear method that is easy to understand and to practice.I’ve noticed huge progress with my pup ever since taking the classes and couldn’t be happier to have a pup who knows how to walk on leash as well as all the basics commands while she’s not even 6 month old.My pup is fairly docile and trainable so it hasn’t been too challenging to train her so far but I’ve seen other dogs being much more sturborn and challenging (some of them were quite a mess and wouldn’t listen a word of what their owners said). Jennifer always had a clear and direct solution to implement and the dogs would always eventually end understanding what was expected from them (and the owners couldn’t be happier to make progress with their pup). That is impressive to me.A last comment would be that Jennifer is available to answering questions outside of the classes and this has been a precious support in the few times I was feeling stressed and confused in the first weeks of having my puppy at home.Highly recommend.
Alice W
Alice W: Jennifer and her puppy kindergarten, basic obedience classes were great! Jen is super knowledgeable and uses a lot of great training methods. She’s seen our puppy grow up and has taught us a lot!

Canine Solutions Dog Training: what do users think?
jewlz-cloud
jewlz-cloud: I wouldn’t believe that such a change in how my pup and I communicate would be possible without experiencing it first hand. I felt like Prince was so out of control (lunging at other dogs on our walks, no recall response and so possessive of toys and sticks) and I was getting frustrated because I didn’t know how to tell him what I wanted him to do. Drew gave me the tools I needed to clearly tell Prince what I expected of him using an e-collar. The combination of correction for unwanted behaviour and reward for positive behaviour was so powerful in creating a positive relationship between my pup and I. We can go anywhere now and I’m not worried that he’s going to get hurt or hurt other dogs. I absolutely recommend Drew with Canine Solutions if you want a great bond with your dog and the confidence in knowing your dog will listen to you everywhere you go. Thanks Drew, we couldn’t have come this far without you!
Lynne
Lynne: Without sounding dramatic, Canine Solutions’ training with Drew has completely changed our relationship with our Berne doodle, Davie. Before training Davie was (and continues to be), the star of the dog park but we had almost zero success in having him recall. It was frustrating, discouraging and dangerous. We now have the skills and confidence to take Davie ‘off leash’ on trails and the dog park knowing he will happily return to us when called. We continue to work with him but are so happy that we can enjoy our special pal !! Thanks so much Drew!
Erica Y
Erica Y: We have the dog we always wanted now! Working with Drew has been a transforming experience for us and our excitable Nova Scotia Duck Toller. We had worked with multiple trainers prior to Drew with little success on what we were seeking—reliable recall and off leash reliabilities. Drew's approach is practical and focused. Unlike other trainers, he provides you with the tools and actually teaches you how to use them effectively. The e-collar is simply a form of communication and link to our dogs when their minds are focused on other things.Prior to Drew, our dog did not have any off leash reliability or a reliable recall. Now her recall is spot on and she can be trusted off leash. She enjoys her time outside and understands when it is time to have fun and when it is time to be obedient. Together we now have so much more fun and it is actually an enjoyable experience to be outside, rather than it being stressful and frustrating.Drew also brought his own dogs out for training sessions. Their calming presence was a real gift to help our pup learn to relax and enjoy the presence of other dogs. It also helped simulate more real world scenarios. We're so happy to have worked with Drew and 100% recommend him!
Cat and Olin Thomson-Quam
Cat and Olin Thomson-Quam: We can't say enough good things about Drew and the training methods we learned. We were convinced our 12 month Nova Scotia Duck Toller was untrainable, as we had watched every YouTube video out there, spoke to countless other dog owners about tips and tricks, and nothing worked. She refused to come when called, was constantly distracted, pulled the leash like crazy, and just didn't listen (among lots of other frustrating traits). We also didn't believe Drew after our consultation when he said if we follow the techniques, she would be a different dog after 12 weeks.Well...we can officially eat our words. Using the hands-on training, and following the specific criteria Drew created for us and what we wanted to achieve, we can officially say our dog has done a complete 180. We are constantly amazed with how quickly we were able to train our pup, and how seemingly easy it was (even though we worked hard!). We have an insanely high energy dog who we can now enjoy walking (OFF LEASH!) without the stress of her running off to every dog or person she sees, we can throw her the ball and have her actually play fetch without getting distracting, we can take her on a nice walk as a family now without pulling a muscle from constantly being pulled by her.Drew gave us the confidence (and sometimes a deserved stern talking to), to allow us to command loving respect from our dog. The training and methods we learned in 3 months will continue as we daily work with our pup, so we only expect to see more results as the months go by.If you have been on the fence about getting private training, we implore you to reach out to Drew at Canine Solutions. You won't regret the decision.
Anna Moreau
Anna Moreau: As previous owners of a reactive senior dog, when Queenie (a 3 ½ year old staffy who hadn’t been socialized) came along, we realized we didn’t know how to handle her. We remembered Drew from his stall at Mount Pleasant Car Free Day and decided to call him to talk about our needs. Drew was professional and attentive and super knowledgeable, right from the get go.Drew really listened to us by tailoring our sessions to our needs. Also, Queenie responded so well to him and his training methods. It has been more than a month since our last training session and we found it has been easy to commit to the training. Like other clients of Drew’s, we often get compliments about how well behaved and ‘good’ Queenie is.We are so fortunate to have found Drew for our dog training needs. We would not hesitate to recommend Drew and Canine solutions to any dog owner.Update: it's April 2023 and Queenie is the goodest baby hippo in the world. We attribute a lot of it to Drew's training methods - if you stick with them, they work!
Becky Greenhalgh
Becky Greenhalgh: We were referred to Drew by our neighbour (who was a previous client). Working with Drew was the best decision/investment we could have made for our pup Jersey and our busy family. During our initial meeting with Drew he walked us through his training program and we felt very comfortable and confident in him. We developed a list of goals that we wanted to achieve and throughout the next few weeks we were able to achieve success on each one of these goals! This speaks to the quality and success of his program. Drew was very easy to work, offered a lot of tips and tricks, involved our kids in the training process, checked in to see how our progress was going and was always available for questions which speaks to his commitment level. Our life with Jersey is so much more enjoyable now. Highly recommend Drew.
Nicole
Nicole: Working with Drew on the e-collar course was great! Drew is super organised and the material provided before and between sessions is so professional and well put together to really benefit you beyond just the 1-1 training.Whist I had done as much early training as possible with my dog, the e-collar has been night and day on the final hurdles for a solid recall and overall responsiveness in any environment. The level of freedom my dog has now safely is amazing and I feel so much more confident that we can handle any adventure we want!Would definitely recommend this course to anyone , so worth it.
Brianne Fudge
Brianne Fudge: Our experience with Drew was a really positive one. We appreciated the time he took to teach us how to properly use and respect the e-collar. Our dog Ernie was so overstimulated in very environment we took him to, and because of this training him was becoming super frustrating for us and for him. After training with Drew we now have a relaxed well trained dog who we feel confident to take into all sorts of situations. Instead of dreading taking him to the dog park or busy trails, we look forward to it.
Heather Ferguson
Heather Ferguson: First off - Drew is amazing. I hired Drew when I first adopted my dog. As she was a year old with unknown history, I wanted to get started on the right path and build a relationship with her that would be good for me as well as her.Drew's approach to training seems really basic when you look back as his focus is on a happy healthy dog, but he really picks up on little things that we (humans) don't see that our dogs interpret. The e-collar is one of the best purchases I have ever made and Drew's approach to using it is all about positive reinforcement. I have a dog that I can walk off leash ANYWHERE and who ALWAYS listens to me. I am never that person at the dog park screaming and calling or racing after their dog. I can control her behaviour and interactions with other dogs and people without my voice. I like to expain it to people that her e-collar is an "e-leash" - its there, but not in a physical way. And with Drew's approach, there is nothing negative or punitive about it. Drew has taught me how to have a strong relationship with my dog - give her what she needs to be safe and happy, and how she gives me the confidence and trust in her.Drew also suggested getting a 'place mat', and as someone who lives in an apartment, this is golden. We live in a small place, and she is a big dog with tons of energy, and her 'place' gives her the opportunity to control herself in moments of excitement (when people come over or when someone knocks at the door).Overall, I would recommend Drew to anyone with a dog. Any dog. With issues, no issues. Drew will help to bring you to a better relationship with your fur-baby and be able to give you the confidence to trust your dog in any situation. Drew has the knowledge and personality to bring your relationship with your dog to an entire new level of trust and mutual joy. However, I will make a note here - Drew does not bullsh**t. He is incredilby honest and true, and his heart is with the dog. If you want someone to sell you something you do not need or give you promises that can't be fulfilled - Drew is not your person. Be prepared for some honesty and self-reflection.
Randy Parizeau
Randy Parizeau: When our dog was two, after having done a number of group classes, we realized that we needed to have some individual training for ourselves and our dog. She was barking excessively at our year old grandchild as well as at anyone who came to our door and her recall was not what we wanted it to when we were out with her. After doing some research on trainers we settled on Drew at Canine Solutions Dog Training and are so glad we did. Working with an e-collar to help switch our dog's focus away from something and have her return her attention to us was uncomfortable at first but Drew taught us how and when to use this tool and it became a game changer. We are certain it is not harming our dog and we see such a change in her. She still barks to alert us when someone comes to the door but stops and our dog and our grandchild are getting along! Her recall outdoors and around other dogs is much better and we feel more confident with her off leash. Her loose leash walking manners have also improved significantly.Much of Drew's training focused on us with a lot of teaching on how to handle our dog. It was very personal. He listened well to what we wanted to accomplish and helped us get there. We have learned that we will be doing ongoing work with our dog and now know how to do that.We would highly recommend Drew.
Ger Clarke
Ger Clarke: Drew is absolutely amazing and we have seen so many positive changes in our dog Ozzy in such a short space of time. I didn't know much about e-collar training before but it has been amazing and I was surprised at how quick you can see results. Ozzy is a year and a half old Husky mix who's stubborn, is nervous of strangers, ignores our personal space and a dog I couldn't trust off leash with zero recall amidst distractions and often getting the zoomies. I've often times been embarrassed at the dog park when Ozzy would run around completely ignoring me and misbehaving and I could do nothing about it while he was in that zone.We had our initial consultation where we discussed all the major issues we experience and our goals for turning Ozzy in to a well behaved dog. Drew walked us through his approach and explained how e-collar training works. We set up a training program and got to work. The sessions were easy to follow and Drew is great at guiding you how to get things right. If you take up training with Drew and put the work in together with your dog you will not believe the difference.Ozzy now recalls every time even when he's running around off-leash distracted and playing with all the other dogs.In the house he'll go to his spot when told and remain there amongst distractions so we can cook, eat, relax and even when there's a knock at the door and a stranger arrives. The changes we've seen in Ozzy have been amazing and I cannot recommend Drews program enough.
Allie D
Allie D: Drew is a wonderful trainer! He helped us so much with our sweet rescue, who is a nervous nelly . The e-collar was the perfect device that has enabled us find a way of communicating with her without adding any extra energy to any situation. She's excited to put it on because she knows it means we're going on an adventure. Thank you again Drew for teaching us how to help our sweet girl gain more confidence :). I can't wait to see where she'll be next year!
Teles Santos
Teles Santos: Drew did the impossible and turned our traumatized, spoiled, reactive dachshund into a calm, happy, playful dog! I highly recommend his service! I had spent almost U$3000 in training and gear before I met Drew, and after his training that never happened again!
Nicole Santos
Nicole Santos: Training our dog with Drew completely changed our quality of life. We brought our dachshund from Brazil to Vancouver, she was a pandemic dog (so no socialization) plus the flight was very stressful on her. She was super reactive, anxious, and aggressive towards other people and dogs. After the first class, she was already SO different! Drew presented us with the tools to deal with her behavior and made sure we put in the practice necessary to improve. Now we can walk with her without stress, have people over, and even started letting her off leash without issues! We are so grateful and will recommend Drew to anyone.
Mark Stevenson
Mark Stevenson: Great experience training my 6 month old hound with Drew. Drew was an awesome teacher and my pup is now heeling and recalling without a leash no problem!
Alfrey C
Alfrey C: After two hospital visits and handful of biting incidents as a result of resource and territorial guarding, we were desperate for some guidance...We then came across Drew and through his guidance, we were able to see tremendous change in our dog. Not only did his aggressive behaviour disappear, but he's become extremely obedient and is always giving us his attention.Quite astonishing how we were just fearing for our safety on a daily basis a few months back and now we feel like we're able to enjoy our lives with him without that fear.
Breanne C
Breanne C: Only regret is not doing this sooner! We have a Frenchie/Boxer with a lot of sass, and Drew's techniques have allowed us to better communicate. We have made leaps and bounds in training, no more door rushing, no more leash biting, reduced jumping (still in progress), and way better recall amongst other things. The training program didn't waste time, getting results quickly which was great for our busy schedule and key for us too was that it got the whole family on the same page. The at-home work/routines are reasonable to maintain long term, I can see us continuing to make progress, even to some more difficult tricks and skills post-program now that we have been taught the fundamentals. Thank you Drew, you've been wonderful!
Jennifer Pape
Jennifer Pape: TL;DR: Worth every penny. My 1 year old mini-goldendoodle, Tug, was distracted, chaotic, and lacked boundaries before I reached out to Drew for help. He was dragging me on our walks, picking up alllllll the garbage, and there was no chance I would have ever even dreamed of letting him off leash in an unenclosed space. With Drew's guidance and training methods, including the e-collar, we were able to get Tug calmed down, focused, and our walks are now an absolute pleasure. His recall is so good it's hard to believe he's the same dog, and he LOVES to put on his collar and head out for a training session (he has absolutely no fear or negative association with the collar because of how Drew taught me to use it).Practice makes perfect and we're going to keep at it, but in the 3 months that we've been working with Drew, Tug has basically done a complete 180. No more dragging me around, no more jumping and nipping at me for treats and attention. Just a great dog who now gets to live his best, off-leash life.A big thank you to you, Drew, for all of your help and encouragement along the way. Tug and I so enjoyed working with you, and we're so grateful for everything we've learned! If only you also trained children... ;)
Jourdan Jackson
Jourdan Jackson: We cannot thank Drew at Canine Solutions Dog Training enough! He helped us structure and improve our relationship with our dog, Kipp. We rescued Kipp from the Meat Market in South Korea and understandably, that came with some trauma behaviors. Our main concern was Kipp's intense anxiety which sometimes came out as reactive towards people (particularly men) and food guarding/alpha behaviors with other dogs. It was really hard for us as we are social people with male friends and lots of other dogs in our lives. Our first pet trainer recommended Canine Solutions, but in all honesty, we were quite hesitant about e-collar training. We were afraid that using a balanced approach, rather than a strictly all positive reinforcement approach, would break the bond that we had built with Kipp. Well, we were so wrong. The structure and communication that e-collar training offered made our bond with Kipp stronger than we thought possible. Kipp now looks to us for everything. He trusts us when we tell him someone is safe, meaning that he now wags his tail at our male friends who come over and plays endlessly with dogs without reacting negatively when upset. Kipp's recall is phenomenal for being 1.5 years old. Of course, nothing is perfect, but rarely does he not instantly come back when called which has given him and us such freedom outdoors. He's a happy dog now which means we are happy pet parents! Also, we wanted to mention that Drew is such a caring and responsive trainer. He was attentive and responsive to every concern, and he worked with us at our pace. We didn't realize how important excellent communication between trainer and trainees would be to our success! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Drew!
margot scott
margot scott: Three months ago I adopted two rescue dogs from Mexico. They were small dogs with big insecurities.Although I had raised other dogs nothing had prepared me for these two.I was feeling overwhelmed with trying to train these two very nervous, and reactive dogs, and knew that I would need the help of a professional dog trainer. The owners at my local pet food store (Cascadia), recommended Drew at Canine Solutions. They told me that Drew was experienced with training rescue dogs, and would probably be able to help me.They were correct: Drew has been an immense help. From the first lesson I learned that the dogs needed to know that I was in charge, that they could trust me, and learn to respect me, and I needed to respect their need to be protected from people that they didn't know or trust, at least until they felt more secure and confident in their new world. I learned how to be with them so they, and I, are more relaxed and calm. Thanks to Drew's patient teaching and enthusiastic praise, the dogs have learned to trust me, and I think, they mostly respect me!On walks they heal. They no longer attempt to chase/fight other dogs. They have learned that they have a "place" in the house that is uniquely theirs. They (usually) come when they're called. They are less reactive to new noises, and people. They have learned, and respond to some commands.I have learned to keep them on a schedule - lots of walks and lots of training, and then some much needed down time. I am now realizing how important continuity is with these two and try to respect their dependence on a predictable schedule. It's been a huge amount of work, and I am very grateful to Drew for guiding me through this intense time. Without his incredible experience, his patience, his skill as a calm and assertive trainer, the dogs and I would not be where we are today: more or less happily coexisting!I highly recommend Drew for his training techniques, and his ability to work and communicate well with both the dog and the dog's owner.
Tasaday Pollesel
Tasaday Pollesel: After running into (many) frustrations with my new Frenchie, Roger, I started looking into a professional trainer to try and nip the issues before he was older. I came across Drew’s page and was elated to see all the great reviews/experiences, and free consultation.Once I met Drew, I knew he’d be a great fit for my fur baby. He’s such a professional with tons of experience, knowledge, helpful tips, good follow ups, and is always more than happy to go the extra mile.I can’t thank Drew enough- now I feel confident with Roger and have all the tools I neeed…it’s like I have a new “dream dog”.I would highly recommend Drew to anyone looking to train their dog(s), he’s definitely one of a kind and a game changer!

Bravo Dog Training & Behaviour: what do users think?
Nathan Salomon
Nathan Salomon: Renée is an awesome dog trainer and did a wonderful job helping us train our Bernedoodle Panda! I would highly recommend her puppy kindergarten and private training sessions!
Eryn MacKenzie
Eryn MacKenzie: I reached out to Renée after dealing with some sudden onset leash reactivity with my Boston terrier. He was a perfectly behaved well socialized little dude until he and I got bit by an off leash dog while he was on leash. Following that he started to get stressed on leash or when other dogs were in our home.Cue me calling Renee for some training assistance. What is so great about Renee is that she came and joined us just on a regular walk so she could observe at first and give feedback. In the end I was really worsening the behaviours and so she gave me training tips for both me and my little dude.Fast forward to living in a condo 2 years later and my dogs leash frustration turned into leash reactivity. I called Renee again and we went out for a walk where she introduced me to marker training. She also encouraged me to just understand and read my dog’s body language and helped me understand when he is over threshold and when to use taught cues like emergency u-turns.It’s been 4 years since we started working with Renee and I couldn’t be more grateful. My dog shows me daily how safe and happy he feels, his reactivity has become greatly reduced with only occasional triggers and best of all my relationship with my dog is stronger than ever.Thank you Renée for giving me all the tools to make Ollie’s life so full. We are so grateful for you.
Rebecca Milman
Rebecca Milman: My reactive doggie and I have been working with Renee and it has been wonderful! It worked very well for us to work virtually from home as he is fearful of strangers and new environments. Renee gave us tools to use in his own space, which helped to get him to a place where we can begin introducing the training in other environments (ie vet visits, public places). We have made so much progress with body handling, leash reactivity, and marker training. Thank you Renee for all your help!

Marina MacDougall: We worked with Renée to help with our dog’s reactivity and it was such a great experience. She’s given us the tools to help us understand his patterns, keep him under threshold, and also how to expand that threshold. We did 3 sessions and have noticed a huge change in his behaviour and confidence. Thanks Renée!
Balen Habeeb
Balen Habeeb: The best 👌👌👌
Barbara Crystal
Barbara Crystal: We adopted a foreign rescue and luckily we were able to get an appointment with Renée fairly quickly because we were quite overwhelmed. I still consider many of the points Renée has raised in our sessions. Most of our sessions were virtual and it’s amazing what we accomplished through video. We now have a well adjusted rescue dog who enjoys her life, we understand her better and continue to see her adapting as she ages. We still celebrate all the small wins! Thanks Bravo Dog!
Christine Fedusiak
Christine Fedusiak: Took puppy kindergarten with Bravo when my dog was a pup, and recently had a behaviour consult for behaviour changes on-leash for my now 5 year old. Super helpful, glad we have this resource!
Jess Culham
Jess Culham: I have had the pleasure of working with the amazing team at Bravo dog both in puppy classes then multiple training sessions over the years with both my dogs. While using positive reinforcement techniques, practice and patience- my dogs have improved 10 fold- all because the amazing team at Bravo Dog. I cannot say enough positive things! Whether you have a puppy, a rescue, or a reactive dog- they have all the education and techniques to successfully address any challenges you have! Don’t send your dogs away for training- learn with them and do the work! Bravo Dog will help!
Emily Drummond
Emily Drummond: Highly recommend Sandy for private training sessions! She is a kind, compassionate, and caring individual who will go above and beyond to help you and your dog. We engaged Sandy earlier this year to help introduce our highly reactive older dog to our new puppy. Sandy delivered a clear and easy-to-follow training plan to help us prepare our senior pup for the new arrival, and additionally gave us lots of bonus enrichment ideas to improve quality of life for our senior. We would never have thought of these ourselves and were so grateful, as taking care of a senior pet comes with so many challenges. We also appreciated that Sandy made things easier for our senior pup by conducting the sessions at our home, and the many kind follow-ups she sent to check on our progress and answer questions. It is clear that she cares deeply for her clients and loves what she does. We would not hesitate to work with her again.
Jenna Beatty
Jenna Beatty: Super recommend Bravo Dogs!! Big thanks to Renée for the virtual training session, and the kindness and empathy the team showed when we were initially emailing them about our dog.My partner and I were skeptical to book an online session at first, thinking it wouldn’t be sufficient to help us train our occasionally reactive dog. We have a 5 year old Great Dane named Cabbie who’s usually an absolute sweetheart but we were struggling with reactivity around the elevator and certain triggers on walks. He was stressed, we were stressed, anyone trying to get out of the elevator while a 140 lb dog was barking at them was stressed. 😅We left the virtual training session with a better understanding of what’s going on with Cabbie during these triggering moments and having a clear path on how to support him in a positive and loving way.Within a week or two there was a HUGE difference in Cabbie’s behaviour. It’s now been a couple of months since our session and Cabbie’s a much more relaxed dog around his triggers (and everyone is much happier around the elevator when he’s there 😂).My partner and I feel so much better and we’re grateful for the simple, yet effective tools we’ve learned. If you’re struggling with reactivity I definitely recommend booking a virtual session at Bravo Dogs, you can train your dog in a caring and supportive way that will give you and your pup confidence. 🤗
Sandra Rodriguez
Sandra Rodriguez: Really good dog training
kate meagher
kate meagher: Bravo Dog are the best!! The trainers are knowledgeable, professional and use positive reinforcement to teach you and your pup how to learn more about each other.Sandy is amazing, patient and a true pro at what she does! The small class sizes really help ensure you get the most from each session. Really could not recommend the team at Bravo Dog more!
Eilis Desmond
Eilis Desmond: Our rescue dog had many behaviour issues when we first got him including fear-based reactivity to both dogs and strange people. Renee gave us the tools we needed to help him overcome these issues and he is a much happier and calmer dog now! The stress in both his and our lives has reduced dramatically. Walking him, having guests over and taking him on trips used to be very difficult and involved a lot of planning and management; now we can just enjoy these occasions.
Shane Houlihan
Shane Houlihan: Thank you to the bravo dog team for all your support and guidance (loads of free educational content on social media and on the podcast). My view on dog guardianship has totally shifted for the better. Life is easier when we can meet our dogs needs. Highly recommend.
Ashley Gribble
Ashley Gribble: Trainers who take pride in education and providing ethical, humane training for dogs and their guardians. They are open, compassionate and non judgmental; ready to help guide you. True leaders.
B K
B K: I’m so glad to see all the education programs in place and have only heard amazing things about sandy and Renee from clients I’ve referred. I feel good knowing I can refer to trainers, like Renee and sandy who take pride in continuing to education themselves. I’m so stoked to see the Dog Walker certificate program in place 🙏🏼 I’m excited to see this grow as we the dog training and walking field is completely unregulated. Absolutely love that you guys are educating the masses in positive reinforcement fear free training methods. Thank you guys for providing so many amazing services and for all the hard work you do.
Amber Young
Amber Young: The trainers who train you! We adopted a street dog five years ago and Reneé worked with us to create a calm, loving and trusting environment for our pup. She gave us the tools to become his advocate and give him the best life possible. We initially completed the 'Mind your manners' course and I've continued to learn through Bravo Dog's social media and podcast. When you choose Bravo Dog, you choose people who use scientifically proven best practices and who have your dog's welfare at the heart of all they do.
Jeff Clark
Jeff Clark: I got a no-notice cancellation for no given reason for the dog training program. Pretty unprofessional.
Gillian Vrooman
Gillian Vrooman: Bravo Dog Training has been amazing to work with! I’ve learned so much about how to help my sensitive English mastiff through fear free & positive reinforcement training… the specialized training and certifications really show, truly experts in animal behaviour. Working with Sandy in particular was amazing & she helped me understand how to empower help my dog build confidence through positive reinforcement & providing choice to help with fear. She fine tunes my training & helps me see when I’m luring vs reinforcing, helps me problem solve and overall is such a support & wealth of knowledge. More importantly my relationship with my dog is better than ever thanks to Bravo ❤️ 🐾
Nadia Langenberg
Nadia Langenberg: We started working with Renee with our fearful rescue about 3 weeks after we got him and can easily say it was the best decision we made. Bravodog training has been invaluable for us. Renee is so knowledgeable, listened to all our concerns and worked with us to come up with personalized solutions that were tailored specifically for what we needed. Can't recommend Bravodog and Renee enough.
David Hui
David Hui: Renee and her team at Bravo Dog are excellent - simply one of the best in the industry. I love how each staff member is vetted, obtained professional certifications, and provide the best for their clients by providing force-free, fear-free, and positive reinforcement based training which is a modern, humane approach to dog training. (As opposed to 'balanced training' or training with aversive tools such as shock/choke collars or fear/intimidation)We have brought our puppy Flan here for puppy classes with Sandy Wei, and we were so thrilled with the education we received. You can seriously tell Sandy is extremely talented at what she does and she makes classes super enjoyable and easily digestible for everyone. We have enrolled our puppy in the next Manners Advanced class and trust that they will provide the best training and knowledge to us possible. If I could give Bravo Dog 6 stars, I seriously would. When I had a negative encounter recently with a stranger who spouted unsolicited, damaging advice and then proceeded to physically hurt my dog and made her scream (!) - I reached out to Renee and Sandy and they provided me with support and it really makes the biggest difference in the world having that help when I needed it. The ladies at Bravo Dog are some of the best people in the world and I am truly grateful for them.I highly recommend Bravo Dog to anyone who wants the best for their dog.

K-9 Best Behaviour Dog Training: what do users think?
Julianne Johnson
Julianne Johnson: We had a good time with Serena and the other dogs!
Ravneet Grewal
Ravneet Grewal: Serena is a great trainer! Outdoor classes in various locations with other dogs really helped socialize my puppy to different environments as well as dogs. The classes were super helpful in teaching me how to teach my puppy and my puppy loved her !
viviane franson
viviane franson: Serena has been a part of both of our puppies training journey and has helped us with discipline and obedience. Serena has always been willing and available to provide feedback to us when we had questions. We definitely recommend Serena to any dog owners!
Pooja Bhat
Pooja Bhat: Highly recommend Serena to all the new pup parents. We signed up our pup, Cashew, into her Puppy Prodigy Program (6 months program) when he was 8 weeks old. We could not be happier with the progress he made with socialization and obedience through training with Serena. We loved that her classes run, rain or shine, outdoors instead of a confined indoor space. She was always available to answer our endless questions and helped us with all the issues we were encountering with him. We'll certainly return for next level training classes :)
Rottn K9
Rottn K9: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Reliability,Responsiveness,Value
Jimin Rhim
Jimin Rhim: Our miniature poodle Tori took Serena's class this spring. Serena's classes helped us to better communicate with Tori. Her classes were easy to follow and practical and she was extremely patient during the classes and answered all the questions we had. Thank you Serena.
Jay Kiew
Jay Kiew: Imagine getting a puppy in May 2020…only to realize that most dog trainers had stopped working due to the pandemic, despite (at that time) easing restrictions.Serena has been a God-send for our pup (@brooklyntheshibainu), as we’ve practiced a) socializing despite social distancing and b) reinforcement of obedient commands. As a result, Brooklyn has been obedient and easy to work with as he continues to grow! It’s super clear that Serena prioritizes doing the right thing for the dogs, as she gives out tons of advice whenever we need it.Thanks for all you do Serena!
Victoria Butterfield
Victoria Butterfield: Serena is nothing short of genius! Her initial consultation session with us and our very stressed and reactive rescue Gidget was thorough, personalized and insightful, and she was extremely helpful in getting us started on some basics. A few weeks later we started attending her group class each Saturday, and those classes (along with regular practice at home, of course) made a world of difference. Serena has a limitless repertoire of ideas and strategies and every week we are surprised with new challenges to work on. She develops a personalized bond with each dog in the class, keeps a close eye on everyone to ensure safety for all, brings her own dog/s to class to serve as role models, and responds quickly if we text her any question or concern between classes. The leveled classes are in a different park each week, with a different lesson focus each time, and every few weeks the classes meet together to practice a group walk. Being around any other dogs at all was initially very stressful for Gidget and would cause her to be reactive and hard to control, but Serena was always very helpful and reassuring, and ensured the rest of the class respected Gidget’s need for space. As a result of practicing with Serena each week and following through on those strategies between classes, Gidget can now co-exist in the same room as our cats, can pass other dogs on a walk without going into a frenzy and has even developed the trust to interact and play with the other dogs in her class. These changes in behaviour would not have happened without the guidance and support of Serena and we cannot recommend her enough.
Aroash Solomon
Aroash Solomon: Serena is AMAZING. If you have a dog and you’re wiling to put in the work, don’t question it and contact her. I cannot recommend it enough.A bit about us: our dog is a timid, easily scared rescue pup. She has some issues with aggression towards other dogs, as well as leash pulling. In times of fear we would find that nothing would make her listen to us. We tried other training in the past, but found it to be unrealistic - she’s a very good dog in the home and in safe, familiar scenarios and felt nothing was sticking when we then took her out into the real world.I was concerned about taking our to a group training environment, in fear that she would be problematic for other dogs. Serena reassured me from the start that it’s a controlled environment and the exposure would be good for my dog. She was absolutely right!Serena is super realistic in her approach - you’re not training for hypothetical scenarios or doing things you wouldn’t need at home. You’re training to ensure you and your dog understand each other more, and teaching them about the benefits of paying attention to YOU and not other dogs/people/cyclists/you name it. You’re in different surroundings every week with changing groups of people and dogs, just like the real world. Serena’s classes aren’t a place where you let your dog off leash to “socialize” and chat to other owners. They’re a place where you have to be fully focused, engaged and giving your dog 110% of your energy. The connection we have built with our dog which we will continue to work has rewarded us ten fold - our dog is so much more confident, relaxed and is becoming less reactive. We love Serena, and our dog loves Serena’s treats - hah!
Kelsey K
Kelsey K: I would HIGHLY recommend K9 best behavour! Serena is not only a fantastic dog trainer, but an incredible lady who genuinely cares for her clients and their dogs. Her classes are informative, interactive and fun!
Jolene Johnson
Jolene Johnson: I have edited my review to indicate 4 stars. I would have given 5 however, I did not get any communication from the owner with respect to my telephone voicemail messages. My emails bounce on her website. I understand the owner is very busy, however, that being stated I had initially posted my review as I was concerned that something had happened to her, as typically businesses do not just not cash a cheque when someone signs up for classes and not contact the customer. I understand now that the business owner is busy.
Karla Guerrero
Karla Guerrero: Bringing home your first baby and second baby, living with 3 existing fur babies was exciting and at the same time worry-some, my male Maltese was a bit aggressive and stubborn, loving boy with his people just don’t make him do what he doesn’t want to do, Serena taught us how to show him we were the pack leaders and he became a much happier boy by simply applying some house rules and consistency no matter how cute they are, my little 5lbs Maltese girl had separation anxiety and fear aggression, Serena helped us get better to the point my little girl didn’t suffer from her separation by teaching us how to work with her and educating us how important is do your homework and exercises with them. She helped us become a healthier pack.Serena is now helping with our GSD teaching us how to work with a strong breed and seeing him become a handsome calm and loving boy is just amazing my big lap dog. I am fully satisfied and thankful with the amount of help and understanding she has for each individual dog and their needs.Thank you for never giving up on our pack and teaching us how to be a fair and good pack leader.
Chris J
Chris J: We have worked with a Serena for 6 months. She was very helpful, especially with the private sessions. On Saturdays the group sessions were also beneficial for training our dog and socializing.I would highly recommend.
Darryll Hobson
Darryll Hobson: Serena knows her stuff! We've learned so much about dog psychology and training through her classes and private lessons. Serena was recommended to us, and now we recommend her to others.
Teresa Marchetti
Teresa Marchetti: Serena is a great dog trainer! All of the pups in her classes love and respect her. She knows how to work with them all in a caring but firm manner. So glad my dog and I have had the opportunity to train with her. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for training from puppy and up.
Sebastian Fake
Sebastian Fake: Serena knows dogs. We love Serena, she is more than a dog trainer to us, she really cares about your dog and has become a good friend to us and our dog. If you're looking for someone to train your dog for you, look elsewhere. If you'd like to learn how to train your own dog and create a strong bond with your pup, Serena will be great help for you. Not to mention, if you'd like your dog to socialize with other dogs you'd be hard pressed to find somewhere better to go. Group classes are outdoors and in a wide variety of places in Burnaby.
Alan Chou
Alan Chou: Incredible dog lover and absolute amazing trainer. Serena is responsible, skillful and passionate. Class time is well informed and class is always challenging and fun. My Rotty Rain has been with Serena since she was 4 months old, and has become a confident and wonderful companion. Rain adores Serena and we feel so blessed that we can meet someone who can love Rain as much as we do. As an amateur dog owner, Serena patiently guides us to handle Rain's obedience training. My Rotty has grown into an lovable teddy bear and my wife and I can become a suitable handler all due to Serena's assistance. We will absolutely recommend her to anyone!!!
ERIC HUANG
ERIC HUANG: We and of course my lovely 15-month-old golden love Serena. Her class is engaging, practical and easy to follow. She offers tons of useful training skills in class, and addresses any questions /concerns after class, which makes new parents like us worry-free. We have seen my pup's obedience improved over time (9 months) and we can see the benefits of training with her in the long-run.
Nicole Rogers
Nicole Rogers: We’ve been with Serena for about 2 1/2 years and the experience has been amazing. She is incredibly generous with her time and truly dedicated to her clients—especially the four-legged ones! I’ve never owned a dog before and had no idea how much the regular classes would build the connection and bond with my first Boston and now our second. Serena is patient and encouraging when you need it but tough when you need that too! I’ve learned so much about my dogs and others as well so I can be confident when we’re around other dogs and be a responsible dog owner.
Michel Pouliot
Michel Pouliot: Outstanding trainer who really understands the dynamics between dogs and their owners and dogs. Serena is a no nonsense trainer who helps us understand dog behaviour and helps us develop the skills we need to have well behaved dogs. She always end up giving more then what we pay for Highly recommend her
Callie Jenkins
Callie Jenkins: Serena is a fantastic trainer and very knowledgeable. Mojito loves her! We’ve been going to her classes for over 2 years and it’s been great. Classes are fun, and you learn a lot, group walks with all the classes are awesome too. Highly recommended!

DOGSmart Training & Smart DAYcare: what do users think?
Anita Crampton
Anita Crampton: An excellent positive rewards dog training school. They train you to train your dog. I have a bad habit to slide back into training dogs the Woodhouse Way. Not really appropriate anymore. I go back with every pup.
TheDeadb3ar
TheDeadb3ar: Really good puppy classes with Tracy
Angela Steiner
Angela Steiner: We absolutely loved Alice’s class, she is incredibly knowledgeable. As an experienced dog owner I realized how little I actually knew. Her training is clear and concise. Be prepared she lets you know when your doing something wrong. My husband and I left the class each time in stitches laughing after being told sternly what to do and we needed to be told because everything she said worked. We have promptly signed up for more classes. We loved her attitude she cares about dogs and their well-being first and foremost. Alice does not sugarcoat what she says which is fine with us as we were there to learn. I have read other reviews about about her abruptness and we did not take it personally at all, we felt her priority was in the right place. Which was for the dogs not the feelings of the humans. I give her class five stars you will absolutely benefit if you do what she says.
Zach W (Awesome Cheese)
Zach W (Awesome Cheese): The beginner puppy school is the most useless thing I have done with a puppy because they don’t teach the basic of stay and coming which are important to teach to people because it’s hard to to teach yourself and new puppy to do it. The puppies are separated which I find odd because you should teach your dogs to nice play and meeting other dogs and human. I really don’t think I would recommend this puppy school because it really doesn’t help with much training on staying or come to your new puppy. For amount paid I would expect more personally training than watching videos in which I could easily look up myself.
Jenni
Jenni: I highly recommend the Come When Called Foundations class for anyone whose dog struggles with recall. My dog went from running away and barking at people off leash to me being able to call him away from chasing a coyote, a squirrel, and a group of running dogs! Tracey is a wonderful and knowledgeable instructor who really takes your dog's personality and individual needs into account.
Sandy Leung
Sandy Leung: Alice is an amazing woman and can work with all kinds of dogs. She will be training you! Love the sessions she holds. There are group sessions and private ones to meet your needs. She also does virtual zoom sessions for in home training.
Jess Alfonso
Jess Alfonso: Our dog registered for the canine good neighbour class. Our dog attended the first class. He was sick and couldn’t attend the second class because the vet recommended that.My wife sent an to Beth the trainer telling her about the situation and to request that the training material and homework be forwarded so we could prepare for the following class. No response was received, my wife sent a second request also with no response. Since my wife was concerned that Beth was sick or the class had been cancelled she sent an email to Annette requesting the same information. After 10 days no response response has been received. This is unacceptable and unprofessional. We guess that once you pay you are on your own.
Amy
Amy: Alice is a very knowledgeable trainer and you will NOT regret it. I have an extremely fearful and anxious Australian shepherd that reacts towards dogs, humans, bikes, children etc. We’ve also worked with a few other trainers before coming to Alice. At first, we were a bit nervous because of what people have written on here about her attitude. But if you really want to help your dog, put aside your ego and listen to what she has to offer. I also don’t know any trainers out there that would offer free assessment before committing to classes. My dog was attacked by another dog when he was 3 months old. When we first started the fear and anxiety class, my dog cant even stand seeing or the smell of other dogs. He would go crazy and completely out of control. We did 2 rounds of the fear and anxiety class and he’s much better now. He’s not 100% calm yet, but he’s much more manageable. He is a completely different dog!! We are very thankful of what Alice has done for us. She is truly a very caring person and genuinely wants to help humans understand and build a strong relationship with their dogs.
Jim Miller
Jim Miller: 4 years ago, my partner and I adopted a dog from Korea through an organization that rescues dogs from the meat trade there. When he arrived, while he was very sweet, he was incredibly nervous and frightened of his new environment. We attended a few dog training classes before we found Alice at DogSmart, and while they were good, they didn’t offer the level of expertise and patience we needed for our reactive boy. We started attending Alice’s Reactive Dog Course in 2019 along with some other dogs who had similar issues. While our dog, Gordon, still has work to be done, it is only through listening to Alice’s expert tutelage, and her tireless patience, care and generosity, that Gordon has shown so much improvement. I would highly recommend Alice to anyone looking for support with their dogs if they are willing to listen and put in the work.
Alison Staudt
Alison Staudt: My aunt recommended Alice’s anxious/fearful class for my rescue dog that I adopted a few months ago. I must admit I was very disappointed. Alice may have many years of experience but her demeanour is very unprofessional and judgmental. I felt anxious and dreaded going to each class. I already felt vulnerable because I was feeling guilty/unworthy for being unable to meet my dog’s needs. When I went to each class, I felt further judged and criticized. She would “snap” when we would ask simple questions, and even laugh sometimes. My main goal of the class was to reduce my dog’s reactivity and that has not improved one bit. We were supposed to have the dogs meet one another (group class of 4), but that never happened. I would not recommend this class.
Reina
Reina: I had an assignment. I believe their training classes work good for some dogs but I don't feel like to come back. How the lady speak to people is not comfortable. I'm assuming she has a good knowledge of how to approach aggressive dogs but she needs to learn how to approach people.
Nancy Goldberg
Nancy Goldberg: My vet recommended that I retain the services of Alice Fisher DogSmart Trainer for my one and a half year old terrier who was characterized as being reactive. That recommendation turned out to be a real blessing! With the assistance of Alice I can honestly say that, after two months of effort, my dog is well on the way to being “cured” of the anxiety that was underlying his behavioral problems. Alice is a consummate professional who is 100% committed to both the human and canine clients. I was really impressed by Alice’s professionalism. The enthusiasm she brought to each class, the genuine care she showed for our pet, and the compassion she showed for the stress I was suffering as the owner of a reactive dog was greatly appreciated. I participated in small group sessions which were extremely well organized and run. Watching how the owners of other reactive dogs were instructed to deal with their problems and having the opportunity to participate in discussions with them was most helpful. In addition to attending the reactive dog sessions I had a few private sessions with Alice where she observed how our family interacted with our dog in our home. She gave us brilliant suggestions which we have put into practice. I cannot say enough positive things about Alice and her enterprise. I would unconditionally recommend her to anyone with a dog that has behavioral issues. Sincerely Ben and Nancy
Rosemary Smith
Rosemary Smith: We didn't know our Boston Terrier got out of our yard...a rare occasion...until Tracy from DOGSmart arrived with Tootsie in tow!! Tracy was driving by on busy Main Street and noticed our dog (no collar on!!) wandering. She kindly pulled over and leashed Tootsie. Tracy being a professional employee of DOGSmart (fitting name) smartly let Tootsie lead her the distance home to us! We had no idea Tootsie was even missing!!!This was above and beyond the call of duty and level of care and human kindness ❤️ What a testimony to Tracy, an animal lover, who also works in the field. Lucky DOGSmart! Boy will we be using their service if ever needed 🤩Gratefully, Tootsie's Family👪 & Tootsie 🐾
colleen brady
colleen brady: John and I had Tracey as an instructor. The best program was called Walk this Way. We have a very distractible puppy and Tracey was so helpful in guiding us. We had a breakthrough in our last lesson. Thank you Tracey!! As we told Tracey, this was a 4-week session which really needs to be 6-weeks. Nevertheless, we found it so valuable.
chrissy stewart
chrissy stewart: We went in for an assessment to see which class was the best fit for us. The “trainer” rude, distracted and did not assess my dog. She was talking to other clients and not even looking at us when completing the assessment. She did nothing to see where my dog was at in terms of Behavior as we sat down and spoke about previous training. Such a waste of time. She was horrible.Response to owner:I have our conversation saved confirming the date and time. This was your error and don't worry about sending me away because I would never waste my time coming back. As I told you, my dog has had training with different trainers, and successfully completed the training skills we were working on and the others trainers feedback is very different then yours.I was not flustered at all and its ridiculous that you refuse to take any accountability. I agreed with you because I was very unimpressed with your professionalism was happy to end our interaction. I was deliberating posting my review however your response has confirmed my original thoughts. Also when I was walking in the parking lot, i did so as you instructed me as it was to do an " assessment" of his leash handling. Your back was to us talking to others....how could you have done the assessment if you are not going to watch? Our dogs were not close together at that point and when the " assessment" period was over, you seemed more interested in helping the next person and moving us along. Not to mention the other dog was still in the car so I don't believe you were concerned for anyone's safety at that point, You need to reflect back and take some accountability.
Sophie Cooper
Sophie Cooper: We took the Puppy SmartStart class with Tracey and loved it! We learned so much. It was wonderful to see how much Tracey loves her job and all the puppies. She is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. We're excited to continue the training at home and feel like we've been set up for an awesome relationship with our lab. We also appreciated that the class is based on positive dog training rather than reactive training. Could not recommend enough!
B Ridge
B Ridge: I took my dog to the "anxious and fearful" class with Alice and I'm so glad I did! It was a good opportunity to learn about dog anxiety, what to look for and how to respond. The set up is unique compared to standard obedience classes so I had a chance to work with my dog around strange dogs in a controlled way that reduced my stress as well! Alice gave good, practical instruction and explained her methods well. She was always available and invited contact between sessions with videos and pictures of our 'homework' she even spent extra time with me reviewing loose leash walking which has been a struggle for my dog that pulls hard on the leash.I looked at other behaviourists but none were as qualified and the rates at dogsmart are more affordable. I picked this class because of the philosophy of training they endorse. I think some of the critical reviews online should have done their research into positive reinforcement and force free training which does involve a lot of reward and generally that is food for most dogs. Alice teaches you how to use a treat as a reward... not a bribe. I also dont think its realistic to go to a behaviour modification course and not expect to be corrected by the trainer. Alice isn't there to be your best friend or sugar coat things and tell you everything is perfect... why would u need her class then? It's been a few weeks since finishing the class and the results for my dog are undeniable! I'm so pleased my dog is walking calmly on the leash and just seems calmer in general. I plan to keep using Alice as my dogs trainer... seeing results gives me hope I'll be able to help my rescue dog overcome her many fears. 5 stars. Read the website and pick a class!!
Tina V
Tina V: I took a beginner class with my 7 month old chi the other 3 dogs in class were much older and had previous training .after 1st class instructor noticed my dog was nervous n fearfull .she even told the others I may not return cause this wasn't the class for me .she let me continue and didn't speak to the owner like she said she was gonna .so miswell say I donated the money cause got nothing in return .I don't recommend this place nor do I recommend Tracy she did me disservice with not directing me to the right direction. The owner wasn't very quick to respond I'm upset n 😒
Nina Harada
Nina Harada: My husband and I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. We brought him in at a very early age around 6 months old and the instructions we got were mostly around postive reinforcement. There was no corrections as that was considered 'abusive' and unfortunately it's lead to a series of bad behaviors our little corgi now has.We read books from Monks of New Skete and Ian Dunbar (which the lady at the front desk recommended) that specifically states a martingale collar is appropriate at a certain age. When we brought him at 10 months old, Alice reamed us out for having it on him. She was very disrespectful, rude and did not provide any USEFUL information in how to manage his excitement and herding instincts.Fast forward to NOW, where we have gone to take him to a real trainer who told us how to help with our corgi's misbehaviors in a firm and communicative manner. The change is 180. Unreal. We have spent MONEY, TIME, and a tremendous effort to help our dog during the crucial puppy stage only to have received the wrong advise from the DogSmart establishment. I strongly recommend that if your dog is like ours please do not waste your money and time on this business.
Rob R
Rob R: Masumi is the reason people come to dogsmart. She is an excellent trainer and has a very friendly attitude.
Joanne Cheung

Kendelle Moscatello
Kendelle Moscatello: Keltie has been so helpful and amazing with our toy poodle, Oaklee. She has been professional and responsive, not to mention willing to go above and beyond to help us ensure Oaklee becomes the great family pet we knew she could be. My husband and I made some mistakes while Oaklee was a puppy by not appropriately setting boundaries. But, with Keltie's help, we have seen so much improvement in Oaklee's behavior! Thank you Keltie!
byron arsenault
byron arsenault: Easy to navigate and she emailed me back within a couple days
Tim Barnett
Tim Barnett: We had our GSD puppy, Kinney, go through the puppy class and beginner obedience with Keltie. It was a great experience and not only did we get a great young dog after these classes we ourselves became better dog trainers. She always answered any questions we had, was always encouraging good habits and steered us away from bad ones. Can't thank her enough for how well Kinney is doing. Going with Keltie is one of the best decisions you'll ever make for you and your dog/puppy.
Lisa Birnie
Lisa Birnie: Keltie is an AMAZING trainer! Our 9 month old lab was out of control, jumping and biting us when excited, lunging at our cats, the cat bed, cardboard boxes, etc. My arms were covered in bite marks and bruises and we were beginning to wonder if he would ever be safe around our kids and our cats. After two sets of obedience classes plus a consult with another trainer and nothing really working, I decided to contact our breeder for help. Thankfully, she referred us to Keltie and after just ONE private session with her, our dog was calm and so much more manageable. The change in him has been unbelievable! We are now taking obedience classes with Keltie and he's doing great. He can remain calm through the entire class and ignore the other dogs while keeping his attention on us. We have already recommended Keltie to many of our friends and will continue to do so. We can't say enough good things about Keltie. She is extremely skilled at what she does.
Kade Brass
Kade Brass: I have taken both of my dogs now to Kelties classes for Puppy Kindergarten and one to Beginner and Intermediate obedience, (the puppy will be going to the other classes when she is of age) and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it! I also believe that my dogs have as well. Her balanced approach in my opinion has gotten the best response out of my dogs and have made me a more confident dog owner. Having also seen purely positive trainers at work and totally respecting and understanding their methods and point of view. I have observed better results in the entirety of dogs where the owners are committed to practicing and continuing the work set out in Kelties classes. The basis of the balanced method is making the right things easy to do and the wrong things hard to do and she does a great job at showing the dog owners how to do that. If you feel that that puts an undue burden on your conscious then look elsewhere but otherwise take advantage of the wealth of knowledge that Keltie has and is more than willing to share with you.PS: If I could change something about her classes or add a suggestion it might be to emphasize that most of the dog training done is not in formal class sessions but how you live with and interact with your dog. In the same way that most education we get as humans is not in a class room but in interaction with our parents and friends and people on the streets.
Craig Andrew
Craig Andrew: We had Keltie help us with our rescue a couple years ago. Keltie made a home visit and we attended two different obedience classes. I found working with Keltie to be an extremely positive and professional experience. Her knowledge and instinct of canine behavior is outstanding. I enjoyed her realistic and straight to the point approach. The tools and techniques she shared with us have made a HUGE difference in how our dog behaves today. We still have work to do but we would have been lost without Keltie.Highly recommended!
Jill Missal
Jill Missal: Keltie gets excellent results, no doubt about it! I witnessed her and many of her students consistently scoring high in obedience competitions in the lower mainland last summer. I was only able to participate in two of Keltie's classes, but I appreciated the drills and techniques she taught the class. Because I only attended a few classes, I don't have a lot of insight into her big picture program but in general she was welcoming, knowledgable, and clearly effective. She is strict and does not put up with badly behaved dogs (which I do appreciate) however she is reasonable about dog behavior. If you have a dog that jumps up on her rudely, expect to have her correct it if you don't - and you should probably thank her for it. But I believe that she is fair and gives the owner/handler a chance to manage their own dog. I wish that more trainers had as high expectations for dog manners these days.
katie Holz
katie Holz: Had the horrible experience of witnessing our dog scream in pain and terror after being pinched in the back above the tail by Keltie and being held up in the air by just the collar for upwards of 15 seconds. He then proceeded to urinate himself and poop (our dog is potty trained) from being afraid. This was brought on by him persistantly not remaining in a sit position on command. We were told he tried to bite her after the pinch (he is a cockapoo weighing no more than 20 pounds, she was able to hold him up with one hand) but maybe that was an appropriate response for a dog that is being physically hurt. Yes our dog is a bit of work due to his energy level and excitement and no, he doesn't bite people ever normally and is not aggressive. After seeing him wail in pain and horror we were just reminded of why we got a dog in the first place. We love them and are lucky to be their companions. They do not need to be scared into obedience like this. Disappointed to see so much force used on the dogs. Again, she held him up in the air by just his martingale collar for a long moment. We were horrified by the sound of him wailing. While some pet owners may be more inclined to use punishment and physical force to train we found it was not right for us. It may or may not have been an isolated incident, but it was enough for us to decide not to go back.
Whitney Hansen
Whitney Hansen: I really found Keltie’s training helpful and useful! I have a tiny Pomeranian that was always tugging at her leash basically choking herself and barking at anything that passed by but because of the training with Keltie she no longer chokes herself with her leash by pulling, she’s much calmer on walks & will stop barking when I say “quiet”. Also my dog has a ton of energy sometimes which can take time to calm her down and Keltie had so much patience with her, us and everyone in the class! My dog and myself both benefited and learned a lot from her class. Keltie really knows what she’s doing, and cares about you and your dog.
Buz Buzzard
Buz Buzzard: I also strongly disagree with posters that complain about 'harsh' methods(?) of training used by Keltie. At training sessions leash pulls have their role, predominantly signaling a certain behavior or correction of a behavior. Also there are lots of praises taught to reinforce positive and prompt response on certain handler's requests. At the end of the chain there are the treats, when our 4legged companions repeatedly follow commands or directions, repetitive positive responses are worth a treat! So I am totally happy with entire training approach and experienced handling of dogs and, as important, training the handlers ...if they so choose to learn something. Either one admits it or not, hierarchies are everywhere, at work, in school and in the dog world, it would be advisable for all of us if we could just work our issues within this context. As such, our dog behaves and learns a lot in classes, more through our daily training sessions where we practice what we learn from Keltie; our dog is also a well adjusted and smart dog when he goes occasionally to doggy day care, people there wonder how we got such a trained, good and smart dog.I am certainly subjective as this is our dog but most of the people that know him praise his training and skills.I continue training, getting ready for going with our dog for a CGN test and enthusiastically recommend Keltie (I've already done it few times at the doggy daycare) as one of best and effective trainers in the field.
Shirley North
Shirley North: I was present at Keltie Lang's Puppy class and I couldn't disagree more with the review that was posted by M.E. None of the dogs were in pain or were they threatened. All puppies must learn to respect their owners and be compliant for their own safety. Many times in their lives they will need to accept situations and put their faith in their owners. When puppies are small they are easy to handle but once they grow to be large dogs its a different story. That's why we see so many large breeds at the SPCA. Keltie has helped me train two other dogs and both of them are respectful well adjusted happy dogs. This one will be too. If you are looking for a good knowledgeable trainer please do give Keltie a call and I guarantee you and your dog will be glad you did.
Firlake
Firlake: Be aware that this trainer uses outdated and scientifically discredited pack dominance and aggressive negative correction techniques in puppy training. If you are looking for more current, positive training techniques you are best to look elsewhere. My wife and I will not be returning for our remaining Puppy Kindergarten sessions. I have had 3 previous very well trained and behaved dog companions that have since passed on. Not one of them required the use of these harsh dominance and correction techniques to create well behaved companions. In my opinion, pain, fear and intimidation can certainly work to achieve compliance through submission as seen in criminal gang dynamics. However I don't believe this is the way to establish a bond of trust and respect with a 10 week old pup. There are much more kind and humane methods to achieve the same and better results in less time with most dogs if modern positive training methods are used.
amanda wegerek
amanda wegerek: I adopted a Formosan Mountain Dog from Taiwan a little under 6 months ago. He came scared, insecure and had zero direction. Keltie has helped me give him purpose and trust. She understands his body language and is patient to take the time and grow him at the right pace. She is the best at what she does. She sees from a healthy perspective when I may want to respond with emotion. Dogs need leadership and somewhere to put their loyalty. Keltie has done nothing less than give me that opportunity with my dog. I have since recommended her to 2 friends and will continue to do so.
Kevin
Kevin: I don't think her method of training is for everyone and I did not find her to be kind. Arrogant feels more appropriate. She uses strong, quick jerk's on the leash and collar to correct behavior and that seems to be her teaching method. I don't know the rest because I walked out of the class after 45 minutes and will not be returning. At one point my dog had got up from a sitting position quickly and pulled on the leash. It caught me off guard but I regained control. Keltie came over, grabbed the leash from me and said to plant my feet and put my weight over my hips. I replied that I know and it was just difficult when you aren't expecting it sometimes. Keltie dropped the leash on the ground, spun around and said she was done arguing with clients.I found this to be very unprofessional. I left right after. There were no verbal or hand commands taught. Just jerk on that leash hard and give the dog a treat.
Dan Forster
Dan Forster: She is awesome trainer and my dog is night and day differance since her classes..
Benny Bloomfield
Benny Bloomfield: Amazing expertise in dog training. After getting kicked out of another obedience class and being told our puppy has behavioural issues we came and saw Kelty. Thank goodness!! After a couple one-on-one sessions and a group class our dog is now the perfect family pet and so well behaved!! Thanks so much Kelty, we highly recommend!!
Monique Anstee
Monique Anstee: I have known and and admired Keltie and her training for over twelve years. She is a kind, passionate teacher that loves what she does. I live many hours away from Keltie, and often I will send referrals to her. All the feedback that I get afterwards is positive. Those that I send to her also find her kind, passionate and effective.

TK Canine Training Centre - Dog Training Vancouver: what do users think?
Chris C
Chris C: He's vancouver's/richmond's very own dog whisperer. 'nuff said. Don is the best!
E Leung
E Leung: Like Another reviewer, we had a disappointing experience with Don. We lost patience and grew frustrated as he taught the most basic commands (sit and stay, which our dog had already knew) for weeks and never taught us how to correct his jumping, barking and recall (our primary concerns). We also paid $450 for 6 hours (6 weeks), unfortunately I don’t think it was worth it at all. We have a big dog and to be training him inside a small 75sf room didn’t work for us or him. If you can wait until the summertime to sign up, maybe it’ll be better, as we were constrained by the poor weather.
chungyun kim
chungyun kim: Good Dog training center.!!
YI CHEN Chen
YI CHEN Chen: I thought he can speak mandarin to my dad but turn out his mandarin is worse than my dad's english. He asked a lot useless questions during the training sections to fill up the time. Questions are silly like "did you walk your dog?" Yes, of course I walked my dog. Paid almost $500 for 6 hours of training which most of people can probably learn from Youtube for free.
Maggie Leung
Maggie Leung: This is a great place for our new puppy! A lot of useful guidelines and what's dos and don'ts. The instructor Don is very patient and experienced. Highly recommend.
Jessy Lo
Jessy Lo: Don’s style of training isn’t for everyone. He teaches “leadership” skills for the owner and repeats the same routine every time we see him. We went to correct our dogs jumping behaviour and improve his recall, neither of which was addressed. Instead he went back to the basics of “sit”, “stay” and “heal” which we already knew. For $450 over 6 one-hour lessons, we did not feel like we got our moneys worth. He just talked the whole time and often left the room to deal with parking or personal matters. One hour really means 45 minutes of the same routine over 6 weeks. Especially during wintertime when you’re forced to be inside the house, there’s not a lot of room to walk around or train. We felt the most useful tool taught was the can shaking (for $450 lol). Overall disappointed with the level Of training given. He may have been good 10 years ago but not worth the money now. He doesn’t even own a dog himself.*edit after don’s response* we stated our primary objectives prior to registration. Once paid, none of it was addressed (he never allowed off leash and every time we voiced our concerns, his reply would be something along the lines of “we will address it next week”). We got frustrated as every single class was just sit, stay, heal on repeat for an hour. Even with the Same family members in attendance, that’s all we did for six private lessons. You learn the command “sit” for one hour, “stay” for one hour, “heal” for one hour etc. when all 3 can be taught within one lesson. It was a total buzz kill. I cannot and will not recommend Don. It’s $450 down the drain - think twice before you commit. Contrary to what he said (he has mistaken me for another owner), we NEVER went off leash and NEVER practiced recall.
J S
J S: I called to inquire about dog classes for my 1 year old German Shepherd Border Collie. Without even meeting my dog in person, I was told to "go back to where you take the lessons" because my dog is part German Shepherd and "they are over protective and aggressive". First, that is an over generalization as he is not aggressive, he is shy and that is why second, I contacted a trainer to help us learn. Our phone conversation was only for a few minutes and right away, he repeatedly told me I had a bad and aggressive dog just because he was part German Shepherd.
a e
a e: Don knows what he's doing, highly recommend.Edit: Obedience training is over and the difference it made with my dog is amazing. Don has been kind throughout the whole time and even accommodated my schedule even at short notice due to covid. Thank you so much Don.
Janet Tang
Olive is a miniature Australian Shepherd. Started to bite me at 4 months, won't bite other family members, I checked a lot of information on the Internet how to teach her, but it didn't help. A friend introduced TK dog training center. Olive has been carefully taught by Don, and my family and I must keep in mind Don's teaching and cooperate with his professional advice to help Olive get the best results. The scariest thing about Olive was not letting us talk to our friends on the street, she would just keep barking and even jump up and bite our friends, she would bark at any dog she met and we were frustrated and embarrassed. We can't let him go on, Olive improved a lot in a short period.Don's care and patience will only make Olive focus on him and not be afraid of him. And I have a more stable relationship with Olive. Now we can talk to friend on the street and Olive could ignore other dogs on the street. I am really grateful to Don for his careful teaching so that we and Olive can live a happy life every day.I would like to highly recommend to join the social class at TK Canine Training Centre which can really help Olive get along with other dogs. In the social class, she can also be trained to listen to the owner's instructions under off leash.I appreciate Don to teach me and Olive during these period to help Olive grow up healthily. Professional knowledge and opinions can not be seen through the Internet alone, but need some professional tutors to help us, so that we can Help your dog grow up healthy. Be sure to discuss the research with your own trainer to get the best results. If we love our dogs, we must take them to TK Canine Training Centre. The owner and the dog are properly educated, that is the greatest love the owner gives them.
Songyi Huang
Songyi Huang: Professional dog training
Selma H.
Selma H.: Don is an amazing trainer. I like his approach of teaching dogs to become well mannered and that a dog's behaviour starts at home. Treats are used but very sparingly and there are no baby voices used to talk to dogs (huge pet peeve of ours). Don's method of training fits with our lifestyle.
Ivan Luy
Ivan Luy: Don is great and I highly recommend Don to anyone who wants to get their dog trained
Faye Wang
Faye Wang: My puppy is very calm and has a good training time! Very friendly and helpful instructor!
Ve7123
Ve7123: 教練既專業又有禮貌,收費合理,訓練埸地又大又清潔兼設備齊全,值得推薦
Heather S.
Heather S.: Our pomchi BohBoh joined us just 2 days prior to quarantine, which was unexpected. It was extremely difficult to socialize our pup in the midst of a pandemic. We tried virtual training, which didn't work. Thank god for our friend Wayne's recommendation, we found Don at TK Canine Training Centre. BohBoh started his obedience training at 4.5 months and Don was able to correct ALL of his behavioural issues within 3 lessons (it felt like a miracle). BohBoh stopped barking at everything. He stopped chasing cars. He also stopped with his food aggression. BohBoh is now an extremely playful, but polite puppy which we are so thankful for. If you have ever met Don in person, he gives off the calmest demeanour and you can feel his love for animals. Don was able to train our puppy to respect us without using any treats, but rather with a positive praise method. We love going to his classes and BohBoh has now finished obedience training, recall and now onto Agility.
T M
T M: Don the trainer is so great to work with. Recently found out I have nerve damage in both my arms and my pitbull was too strong for me. Don helped me correct his behaviour in just 1 session!!!!! He works magic and his facility is so nice and clean

Emily Kao Yun tien: The trainer is awesome and very knowledgeable.
Xerius Anklesaria
Xerius Anklesaria: Don is a master! After doing extensive research on trainers I came across TK and have never looked back! We have been working with Don for the last 10 months with Gus (our 1 year old Bernese Mountain Dog) and we have seen a night and day difference! Don's attention to detail and methods on how to deal with certain behavioral characteristics have been nothing short of phenomenal! My wife and I have had nothing but a positive experience with the TK Canine training center and the family atmosphere it creates. If you want to learn proper canine leadership and if you want a dog who doesn't require a treat for every command you give (like the 90% of trainers) this is the place and Don is the trainer!
Boey Chau
Ethel Leung
Ethel Leung: When I had my first dog, which was a Doberman Pinscher, I brought it to TK Canine Training Centre. It had a lot of behaviour and aggression issues. Don was able to develop a training plan tailored to my dog's behaviour. He taught me how to develop my leadership skills. In turn, I developed a better relationship with my dog. For the next 14 years, my dog was not only my best companion but it was my family member. After my first dog passed away, my family and I brought our second Doberman Pinscher, Jayden. Immediately, I knew this dog was going to be very different from my first dog. When Jayden was 8 weeks old, I brought Jayden to Don to start it's training. Unlike other trainers who uses the same training plan for every dog breed, Don develops a training plan tailored to Jayden's behaviour and dog breed. The method Don taught me to train Jayden was very different compared to how I trained my first dog. During Don's training courses, I was able to build an everlasting relationship with Jayden and strengthen my leadership skills. Now, Jayden is friendly, happy, but more importantly, a well balance dog. Don made me understand that although Doberman is bred to be a protective guard dog, the breed of the dog does not dominate it's behaviour. Don's training classes are fun and interactive. He is truly the best trainer I have ever come across.
