UBC Extended Learning Downtown: what do users think?
Cokepiggy Dev: Please consider this place a money orientated business instead of an educational institution. They don't give a dame about your learning, your questions and your challenges.I did an online grammar in writing course there. Without any clear information, it turned out to be a text-only type of class. It was the worst I've ever been and I have done at the least 5 courses with UBC-ExL. The course was poor organized and turned into a very expensive Facebook chatting group where is full of miscommunication and small chit chats in poor English. When you have a question with the materials or assignment rules, it was hard to say it right at the first time. When the teacher misunderstood you, which is possible because we are not good at grammar, the whole back and forth conversation took days to completed.Even more, I asked if I can do some extra homework to practice the grammar, the teacher refused and said it was the school policy stops her to provide more help to students.Second, the online system has a confusing UI and poor structure. There was no extra assistance and instruction to help on using the system as well. It took me the whole first week just to understand how to use it and where to find materials. As soon as I found out the issue of a text-only grammar class and the poor UI system, I wrote an email to the student service and told them about all the struggles that are not relevant to English learning. After a few days (tic-tac on my time), they simply wrote back an email said that they can't help. The ONLY suggestion to me is to turn off the notification, so I wont be notified with all the small chats...I was like wow... this is not a school, nor a place want to help people learn better. Be careful before you sign up anything with them

Luiz Ribamar Ribas: I love VGC! Excellent english course.
Itamar Carvalho: I'd like to express my gratitude to VGC International College for those 4 fantastic months in the Global English and University Preparation programme. It was an incredible event that was well beyond my expectations. Excellent environment, awesome structure, I was always at ease and appreciative of the willingness, expertise and friendliness of every member of the staff. Even though everyone was wonderful, I'd want to single out Christopher Hunt and  Adrian Valentine, who served as my instructors for the last 3 months. They are excellent and professional teachers, I can't thank them enough for what they taught me. Besides that, I also want to recognize, Aly Bhola for all the support throughout these months. I am very happy and satisfied with my experience at VGC, you truly are the finest language school!I wholeheartedly suggest VGC International College to anybody who is contemplating it, I am sure that you will not be disappointed!
Aldo Rodríguez: Great college💯💯. Excellent English classes.
tabatha Madrid: So good, you learn a lot here
Luciano Novas: Amazing school, very cool staff
Thiago Soares: Although I only had online classes, I had a wonderful experience, in VGC, I felt that all staff are willing to help. During the classes, I realized that all the teachers are extremely qualified. I made the pathway, and I feel very confident to face academic life and Canadian multiculturalism. Thank you!
Ignacio Dinamarca: I want to thank VGC International College for two incredible months in the University Preparation Advanced program. It was a tremendous experience, way beyond my expectations. I always felt very comfortable and grateful for the professionalism and kindness of every member of the staff. Even though absolutely everyone was great, I want to highlight Adrian Valentine, who was my instructor for these two months, he is a great and very professional teacher, I can't thank him enough for everything he taught to me. Besides, I want to highlight Javier Torres, Aly Bhola, Jude Conroy, Iain Angus, the Student Services Department and the instructors of Friday Workshops. I think all of you should feel very proud of working in such a great company, you really are the best language school! That being said, I can totally recommend VGC International College to anyone who is considering it, you won't regret!
Mara Protta: Excelente! Voltaria para continuar meus estudos lá.
Fred Ruiz: I consider VGC the best ESL college in Vancouver since teachers are quite committed to the development of students. Thanks to them, my English skills have increased considerably, as a result, I got a great IELTS result being this my main goal when I decided to study here. During my journey, I attended different programs (IELTS, Global English, University Preparation) thanks to the flexibility of its programs. I am so glad to have chosen VGC no only for the professionalism of teachers but also for the administrative staff who supported me all the time (study programs, accommodation, health insurance, to mention some). Thanks, Jana, Catherine, Bianca, Adrian, Pavla -such great teachers. Aly, certainly, an awesome university programs advisor!. Also Iain, Javier and Sakiko for all the support I received. Thanks, VGC!
Haze Nam: The best Language school
Luma Dórea: When I didn’t reach the IELTS grade (proof of proficiency in the English language) to attend a postgraduate course in International Business Management at Douglas College in Canada (🇨🇦), I felt powerless. While studying foreign language, still in childhood, I went through all levels from beginner to intermediate and advanced until I reached graduation, still in high school, in the 8th grade, I had the opportunity to live a year in the USA and study an academic year (in middle school).I returned to Brazil and continued studying English only at school as a compulsory subject and before the entrance exam I took the Cambridge proficiency test. And that was it ...With approximately 10 years of little use or even disuse of the foreign language, I firmly believed that speaking, reading, listening and writing in English was like riding a bicycle. Once we learned, I would never forget...my mistake ...It is true that I have not completely forgotten ... but I learned that foreign language is like physical activity, the more "sedentary" we are in practicing, the less strength we will have when we need it.Anyway, IELTS was not the last light at the end of the tunnel, I had another option to take an intensive preparatory course at a University Preparation Program, the VGC International College. I can only thank VGC and the entire academic staff of this institution, it was 2 months of intensive English classes, assessments, projects and a lot of hard work involving theory and practice, that made me leave the comfort zone and pull my capacities and skills to a higher level. Now I feel much more confident and prepared to enter another university journey and seek to achieve my professional and personal goals.Thank you very much VGC for the experience, teachings and experience in the last two months I hope you will continue helping many foreign students like me.Kind regards,Luma Santana de Souza Dórea.
Vincent Rolong Marquez: Thanks to all the support of VGC I was able to live an extremely rewarding and fun experience.I Improved my English skills in a fun and active way, interacting with the teachers, and talking about many topics, practice with my classmates learning new things in the process. It was not only very educational but my teachers and other support made all my learning at VGC truly unique.an unforgettable and incredible experience.
Levi Chen: VGC is a good place where you can learn Engliash and know new friends. Vibe is fun and friendly. Let’s hit the books.
Rodrigo De León Correa: Excelente college para mejorar el inglés, gran dinámica en las clases, trató amigable cercano, con contenidos entretenidos que te ayudan a mejorar tu gramática, writing, listening y speaking.
aya miura: I had good time with my friends at VGC. I didn`t understand conversation in English at first. However, my English skill was improved by teacher and my friends. So I recommend here if you want to study and make some friends.
haruka iwsk: VGC was good school. Good teachers, good staffs, and good students. I had awesome time.
Lucía Morales García: Experiencia inolvidable, nunca sabré cómo agradecer el maravilloso trato!!
T N: I Highly recommend this school for ppl who wanna improve academic English such as for IELTS or TOEFL. I’m actually taking IELTS corse in this school and my IELTS score has been improved a lot since I started studying here. Moreover very clean and everyone speaks English so you can really focus on English:)
Yarelys Chavez Osorio: My experience at VGC has been really good in all areas. I like my classes because they are very interesting and you can learn a lot.I have been 4 months here studying! Also I love the homestay organized by VGC I don’t have problem with them always them give me a good food and are very supportive.I recommend so much VGC International College if you want learn English well!!

EC Vancouver English Language School: what do users think?
前田佑太: Thank you for all classes and teachers!! I started class at the upper intermediate level but I could reach the advanced level thanks to kind teachers and other staff. If you want to be more open-minded, I recommend you all be student ambassadors. That would make you a more sociable and successful English speaker.
Barbara Costa: I come back to Brasil 2 weeks ago and I had the amazing opportunity to study in Ec School. I had a lot of fun, meet a lot of friends around the world that for sure I` ll remember for my whole life. The Team Ec is very helpful and kind , always there to help with whatever you need. I will never forget this experience!!! 3
Brenda ReyesTrejo: Hiiii, I’m student but was a really good experience, you know a lot of great people from all around the world and you will have a lote of good friends that you will always remember, don’t be nervous about make friends I’m sure that you will have a lote of friend and you will enjoy all the thing that Vancouver have for you!!
jesus rayd: i just finished my course and it was a wonderful experience, i met people from a lot of countries, the teachers are super qualified for teaching, i just really felt at home in this school, i completely recommend this school for everyone who wants to learn english, this is the option.
Isabella Roa: I'm a student ambassador, the experience here with Team Vancouver is great, they help you with everything you need, they are always available to you and your difficulties. If you want to have the best study experience, come to EC Vancouver, I recommend it.
morgana almeida: Positive:Professionalism,Quality
しおぴ: 日本人で英語で上手くコミュニケーションできないと、先生に馬鹿にされたような態度を取られる。
handoting: Teacher is really awesome
Isadora Franz Sonda Rocha: Great teachers and staff that really helps you with your questions or problems. The school itself has a really good space and learning environment.
Eduardo: This school is for lazy people who are just there as a pastime. I've been studying there for almost five months and, to be honest, I've been learning more at home and with my friends than at school. Also, some teachers have a strong political opinion, they waste their and our time talking about Trump and political stuff without knowing nothing about. It's not a really bad school at all, you as a student have an amazing online platform to study all day. On the other hand, if you are thinking in paying a lot of money to study there consider the negative points to not get up set when you realize that EC can be a nightmare. Also, I don't recommend "General English" unless if you are in the basic levels. Try to take some lessons as Cambridge or IELTS, I'm sure that is better than the regularly course. But if you can avoid the school completely, there are other schools with better environment without thinking just in your money.I really would like to understand the reasons to be too different between what we see in the class and what we have to answer in the Assessment Test. I can give some detailed examples. In the Assessment Test we have a lot of questions which are completely different from what we are accustomed to seeing in the class. I explain why: in the class we have never seen those kind of questions. I never received an activity with the options TRUE, FALSE, NOT GIVEN whereas in the REAL test the school evaluates you through that methodology. In addiction the reading done in the class displays these kind of answer: e.g.: find in the text the synonym for "bad". "Discuss you with partner about some meanings..." whereas in the REAL test we have a sort of issues that demand a more deeply knowledge that we don't see very often - seldom - in the class. My question is: That situation is purposeful? Why the test is more difficult than our classes? I'm not complaining about the test but about the lazy way that some teachers pursue during the class. I cannot understand how the staff couldn't noticed that big mistake. I lived in a homestay with more 7 students and some of them studied in others schools which gave them a lot of more preparation that EC cannot give us.EC deserves 5 stars only for the marketing. If the staff doesn't know how they can improve the school I will give some tips:1. Listen your customers;2. Create EC book. Do not accept a book that doesn't contain workbook (or give mandatory homework);3. Train the students to the assessment test, give similar activities;4. Evaluate better the teacher, certificate the classes more properly;5. Then, fire lazy teachers;6. Fix the machine, it stucks our money (food machine);7. Make possible changing students during the week. More effectively process without a lot of burocracy for everything;8. Try to imitate the best of others schools which have their own books (e.g.: preparation to CAE in the general English), parties for teenagers, best environment and special events.9. Improve the General English. Demand more from students. We cannot learn English with such bad classes.10. See the students as customers who paid a lot of money with the expectation that EC would be the best school ever.
rocky k: Some of teachers good n some not... They dont expline The grammer.. They just read it and for homestay in case if u dont like it they will change it after A while they are not cooperative with student in homestay... They just want to take money... I will not go there again
Renan Lacalendola: The best school for learn and improve your English!
장규미: Love here
Dina Charaf Eddine Nasser: 👍🏻
Nicolas Hartstein: Otima escola com pequenos problemas
Ba R: I've been studying at EC by a month and it's amazing! The location is good, close to Graville Station, Tim Hortons, Starbucks, 7Eleven, A&W and a pub. The staffs are friendly and the place is clean. Most of the students are brazilians, koreans, swiss, japaneses and colombians. The Wi-Fi is a little bit slow but it's fine. If I go to another place that has EC as a school to study, I'll chose it again!
Simon: Easy said..great school, great people! An amazing experience that everyone should have done at least once. I will always keep it in good memory and recommend it to everyone.
Gag Gag: I had been in this school for well over a year.Honestly, avoid it. Staff are very un friendly towards students (always unhappy). They are after your money and nothing else!If you ate sick they don't care. They don't even accept (medical excuses). I was sick for a week and they refused to accept my doctors note and left me in a trouble with the government.I wrote this review after having been in another english school in town and i saw the difference.

Academy of Learning College: what do users think?
Pizza Eater: Scam
Amy Garstin: WORST POST-SECONDARY SCHOOL!If you are not disciplined, self-driven and motivated, you will not be prepared for the workforce or industry you are trying to gain knowledge for. They are hardly an academy of learning or a college. In my courses, the questions at the end of each lesson are also the questions on the final. Because of this it was easy to skip ahead. I tried to understand as I went but I had to finish quickly. The problem with that is that what I was supposed to learn in the first or second course I didn't understand until the third or fourth. In more than one course, prior to the finals, I was given answer keys to my course finals because staff weren't able to answer a question I had. Grammar/spelling errors in the workbooks, videos and exams. Learning videos from 2005 and earlier. Some courses you have to figure out for yourself and realize that you are on your own. English is my first language but I can not imagine what it would be like for someone who has ESL. No instructors/teachers/professors or educated staff. I had to google a LOT of things to understand them. The race to "GTFOH" was always on my mind. For an "academy", the communications I received from them always had a lot of spelling/grammar/punctuation mistakes. One was just absolute garbage. Like solving a rubik's cube. You are better off using Google. I am not even kidding. DO NOT GO HERE. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY.
Lisa Lai: The Academy Learning College in Broadway, Vancouver, is great in service. I found this institution online and the staff members helped me to find the right program that fit my career goal and development. I planned to study in Vancouver for two years to finish a businessd program. Unfortunately, I couldn't go as planned due to family issues and the pandemic.Thankfully, the staff members helped me from the beginning to the end. They are very helpful and friendly.
604East Van: Its great for people with Scheduling issues and capable of learning on your own. Online courses are okay until you are stuck and class room is closed for the day but you're at school. Its great to be able to pick your own speed in the self taught courses (not online) and complete as quickly as you can.I completed a two year course in 9 months! Got a job before i was officially completed school. I enjoyed taking my course.
Angel Bolaños: I'm taking the Web Design program and it has been excellent, You learn by yourself with the courses that are 100% online, and it is 20 hours a week, so it gives you more than enough time to look for a part time job or an internship while you are studying.

Eton College Canada: what do users think?
Becky Vu: I’m currently a student enrolling in the flight attendant course and I’m really enjoying it so far. My instructor Deepa Sagar is an amazing instructor, she takes her time to explain every procedure in detail and is extremely patient with us. She’s interactive and makes sure her students are comfortable at all times and teaches us valuable lessons.I’ve learned a lot in the last two weeks and I would highly recommend this course to anyone who’s looking to get into the flight attendending
Maje Abad: Grateful to have studied in Eton College, Vancouver, BC. The Staff and my Instructor Deepa Goel are very supportive and understanding especially for our learning and career goals. They gave us useful and practical tips in the flight attendant preparation program. I highly recommend this school especially to those who wants a career in commercial aviation industry.
Miyu Oya: What I learned in Flight Attendant Preparation Program is very helpful in becoming a flight attendant, and 'm satisfied with that. However, if I have to say one of the points that is not good, the content was not enough for the class hours even though the instructors are very nice.
Kathleen Valeroso: Currently studying FAPP and learning a lot about aviation, I'm happy to have Deepa Goel as my instructor she teaches so well and always makes sure that we understand the lesson.
abc: The classes are pretty good; my teacher always gives us presentation opportunities and enough education. What I hate most is the management. They don't give us a schedule until the first day of the semester although we've been asking for the schedule for a week. I didn't know that I have afternoon classes until today; which is the first day of the semester. Work on management and give enough info to all the students, please. That's the main part of the office job and it's not functioning at all.Edit; What a collapsed management. PLZ DO YOUR WORK, OFFICE PPL. Update the ampeducator. How do I know I am supposed to have classes if it's not updated.Their management is awful recently. It seems like they don’t even know how to reply back to students’ email. This school is only giving us frustration, just avoid spending so much money here. Trust me.
Heather Pace: I absolutely loved the program and would highly recommend it to anyone who is wanting to become a flight attendant. Joy is an incredible instructor. She makes learning fun and entertaining with all of her flying stories. I like that the program covers every single aspect of the job from customer service to how to prepare for the interviews, to safety, plus a basic history of aviation, procedures, and much more. I feel confident and ready to apply for a job.
Sharni Kc: Eton College canada is currently offering many online courses due to CV. The physical college itself is in downtown Vancouver near the sea and science centre. A train station is also at a walking distance. Eateries n Starbucks too. A very convenient location but courses are conducted online for now. They have partnership with universities in a few many countries abroad too. More on the way. Please check Eton College website for details.
Hannah Romano: If you're looking for a school in business ad, travel and tourism, hospitality management and flight attendant preparation program then Eton college is the perfect school for you. I'm currently taking up hospitality management and flight attendant preparation program, so far it has been a wonderful experience. They have amazing instructors and friendly faculty staff which made it easy for the students to focus and learn.
Camille Rhexene: I’m currently a student here and the instructors are wonderful and friendly!
Megan Taylor: I’m currently enrolled in the Flight Attendant Preparation program, and so far it has been a wonderful experience!
Li Michael: This place is sucks!!! after I paid the registration fee and everything they’ve been asking me if I m capable of taking the course and then they said that Did not pass the entrance exam so I clearly asked them to return my money back but they Refused to return my money back $250 plus $100 and then if I’m not qualified or Fitted to the cours that I have chosen they have to return my money back
Zaya Roma: Exactly what bill said below. I "studied" here 3 years ago, it was the most expensive waste of time of my entire life. Still paying back student loans for a Diploma which is completely meaningless. They are not there to "teach" to you anything, they are strictly a business (in disguise as a school) looking to scam money out of (mostly international) students.
Eileen Zhang: It is too expensive!
K Crosby: Very unorganized & untruthful school. Rude, condescending instructors hired from Craigslist. A favouritism hierarchy is placed on students. Great for international students however, who dont have to do a practicum to graduate. School states they are in it to help students, when only want the tuition (plus tge extras tgey charge you in cash through the year)
Anonymous Anonymous: Everything has a price, you cant eat in class, with projects you have to buy all your material. everything is common sense. expensive school. I personally did not like the school.

Northwest Culinary Academy Of Vancouver: what do users think?
Thomas Matthey: First time participating in a course at the Northwest Culinary. The best course I have done in years.
Sara D: We did the Sushi class with Chef Tarek, it was a lot of fun and we all felt it was great value for money. They even gave us all goodie bags at the end with Poke Bowl ingredients. Will definitely come back in future!
Amee Barber: We went to the one night wonder event for pad Thai. It was so much fun and great tips you’d never figure out on your own. Five stars for sure and I’ll be back!
V B: Highly recommend this place. My partner and I started with the lasagna class, then the risotto class and we just signed up for the bread making series.Couldn’t recommend this place more !!
Stella Ammendolia: The course exceeded my expectations. The teachers wereprofessional, well informed and had a down to earth wayof explaining the lesson. I would recommend this courseto all levels of cooks. The proof is in the pudding...as soon as I arrived home, (I flew infrom Ontario), I went to my garage and fished out my very largecutting board. It now has a place on my counter. Also, for the first time ever, I am using my pastry scraper.Thank you for a memorable course.
Kristian Kletke: Had a great experience with Fundamentals 1. The instructors were friendly and knowledgeable, not teaching you to just read a recipe, but to understand it, and the facility was clean and well prepped. Nice wine pairings too!
Mark Glimm: Just finished a one night lasagna class here, and it was just great. The instructors are knowledgeable, friendly and funny. The facility has I think 8 big gas ranges, with lots of other stuff, and there's a two table dining/lecture area with big screens to see the tutorials. Loved it. Thanks Tony and Jonathan!
Siavash E: .Highest ratio of instructors to studentsHighest ratio of cooking stations to studentsHighest spenders on ingredients and equipmentsNorthwest is not a school, its a passion project. This state of the art food laboratory is run by a team of chefs who are all owners - better described as family rather than co-workers. They'll take you in as one of their own, equip you with the most up-to-date culinary skills and knowledge, and give you unlimited support even after graduation. They are, however, selective in their admission process. You will need a lot of enthusiasm and a bit of luck. I wish you both!
Noya Madadi: I had an incredible experience taking the Enthusiast Level 1 course. Every day was packed with valuable information that are very relevant to everyday cooking including ingredient quality selection & all the reasons behind it. They teach you how to use your senses so you’re not reliant on a recipe or if you are looking to a recipe for inspiration, how to easily adjust things based on your touch or what you have available in your pantry. Every dish was delicious & very repeatable. Tony, our main instructor was very informative as well as the other chefs & instructors. I am already dying to take the next Level 2 course. My partner was so impressed with all the knowledge & relevant information I brought back home. Thank you so much for creating such a fun program. Cooking has never been so fun & stress-free. I highly recommend this course.
Alexandro Rubio: Great place to learn, only took the Basics 1 & 2 courses so far, since I cook for fun, but this place has made me think twice about my career choices, maybe I should have become a Chef! Instructor chefs are polite and knowledgeable, feels like you are cooking with friends and learning is nice and easy.
Janine Kreil: Could not recommend North West Culinary school enough! No matter your skill level, I can guarantee you will learn here from these wonderful people. I have taken 2 enthusiast classes now and I plan to take a whole lot more in the future!
J V: Took the 2 week boot camp as a proficient home cook and left with a new level of understanding for techniques and ingredients that I had never used before. The chefs were all great teachers and always there for questions and to help you succeed. The pace of the program gradually increased as we became more proficient and comfortable in our environment. The 2 weeks went by like a blur but with lots of practice after, I'm sure the techniques will slowly become second nature. Great way for home cooks to level up their game!
Banny Sohal: I would recommend the basic 1 course to everyone. The chefs are thoughtful and engaging and will teach you something no matter you’re level of cooking. The facilities are top notch. Overall great experience. Will definitely try some more courses!
Dayane L.: Amazing experience! My bf got us a couple cooking class this week - Phad Thai food! It so much fun and we learn how to make our favourite dish! The chef and his team were very friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming! Their kitchen is unreal! Very clean and well equipped. We’ll definitely go back soon!😍 highly recommend them! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Andrew: I took the Basics I: Flagship Fundamentals Course just recently to improve on my home cooking skills and to learn its discipline. I've been cooking by following recipes but this course has certainly opened up my eyes with a fresh look, i.e., by putting on a new "Reading Lens". I've also learned the art of flow in the kitchen with Mise en Place. Each Chef instructor brought to the classes their insights, techniques, personal experiences, and how to "Think like a Chef." There were times during the classes I have those light-bulb moments at either during the class or at the kitchen station. Yesterday was my birthday, and I wanted to share what I've learned. I couldn't believe that I was able to cook 10 dishes - first time ever - out from the four day class lessons for a family meal. And the verdict from family - "...every dish was delicious... and that it was a melody of food." I was inspired and I can't wait to begin with the Culinary Basics II: Next level of courage + creativity. Thank you Chefs, and thank you NWCA...
Anthony G.: Thank you for an inspiring lesson! Learned and ate a lot :p
Jim Grant: Really great Basics course with an opportunity to make and learn from meals we made and actually learn a lot of the ‘why’s’ of what you’re doing, rather than just following a recipe. Really enjoyed a lot of the tricks and discussions around things like different salts, and what’s so good about olive oil.
Xiao Yu: Took the fundamentals 101 in-person class here, had a great time. Atmosphere was very relaxed and inviting. Chef and staff were very helpful and provided a comfortable space for all the students to work in. Great kitchen to work in and quality products. I have been cooking at home for some time but I think any level can benefit from this course. Look forward to taking more courses in the future.
Sonya Szoczei: Great classes! Covid distance friendly
A. Owens: The 2-Week Plant Based Bootcamp was excellent! Everyone was so friendly, knowledgeable + most importantly, approachable. The class was taught in a cohesive + professional manner, + yet it was still fun + lighthearted. I definitely recommend anyone who is considered taking a class and / or course here to do so.
Chanel Warshafsky: I came to Northwest Culinary Academy as a home cook, looking to advance my skills and make a career change. Northwest exceeded my expectations in every way possible and without a doubt, participating in the professional culinary and pastry program this past year, was the best year of my life. The instructors all made an incredibly positive impact and I am thankful for the newfound confidence I have gained as a result, both in cooking at home, and now working in the field. The entire team at Northwest is extremely supportive and encouraging, they care deeply about every student's journey, interests and are truly dedicated to help students navigate their first steps when entering into the field and continued mentorship throughout one's career. The curriculum and environment is one of a kind, you will truly have the opportunity to dive into your learning, hone your skills and discover a deeper appreciation for your love of cooking, and forever be inspired to follow your dreams!

Pastry Training Centre of Vancouver: what do users think?
Meagan Craven: I completed the cake decorating program in January of this year. Its intensive and comprehensive as you learn the fundamentals and techniques that are becoming a lost art. Marco is a great teacher, extremely knowledgeable, and doesn't sugar coat anything which is great as this is the only way to improve your skills. Its a small class size which allows for more instruction if you are finding a particular technique challenging, all you have to do is ask! Also the smaller size fosters a sense of comradery with the other students and is lots of fun! There is so much to learn from this program. I finished the class with a whole new appreciation and passion for cakes. These lessons are not only helpful for baking but transferable to other areas of life. With Marcos instruction, I learnt to respect each step of the process, as they are all equally fundamental in making a beautiful creation, cake or otherwise!
Giovana Nascimento: I was looking for a pastry course to improve my skills and learn new things. The Pastry Training Centre of Vancouver was the best find. Marco is an amazing chef instructor and the way the course is built and taught, allowed me to have a better understanding and knowledge of the techniques and the science behind the world of pastries and baking. Cathy is the sweetest and always welcome you with a smile.I really enjoyed it and learned a lot, and will be coming back for more!
Elisa K.: Took:Pastry Training Courses 1-10, September to November, 2014.Artisan Bread Baking Course 1, April 2015.The Art of French Eclairs, September 2015.Pastry Chef Ropke, is both, difficult to learn from if you’re low income and highly sensitive. And a vastly knowledgeable professor, and of course, excellent Pastry Chef. For which he has my deep respect.I learned to respect the hard work it takes to do French standard Pastry Art.But you also have to just check how much it costs to take any other professional pastry program. The other are priced astronomically high. And they don’t even teach the French style. The very basic North American style that is somewhat easier. You should only take his courses for education, not expect to be a pro baker if you’re not passionate about it. Saw that in one of my baking partners. She just wanted to have fun.Or be passionate and expect to work blood, sweat and tears to get to be that good at it.[[Edit: Was planning to take the Chocolate Courses, one day. But goals and priorities have changed.]]Also, run a business and see how you like how some customers treat you. You get fed up eventually, too, of the difficult to please customers. Expecting perfect customer service, even if they have unreasonable expectations. And if you want the best, sometimes you have to put up with rudeness from the stressed out Chef. It ain’t easy achieving perfection.Took me so long to review, because I had to work through my feelings, he definitely can’t win Mr. Congeniality😂~
hasan raza: Excellent place to learn and grow your passion for fine pastry, chocolates and baking.Marco is an amazing chef, instructor and person.
No MSG No Garlic Foodie: A friend of mine raved about their bread making class, that's how I found them. I see from other reviews that I am not the only one who find it hard to contact them as they don't tend to return your calls. But that's no reason to give them a low rating here so I took one star off because they are hard to connect with. In terms of rating for food, five stars. I wanted to share how great their cookies are – the best we've ever tasted – not sweet at all. I saw these by chance when I was picking up pastry flour from them. I've been there many times to pick up flour and typically, they have French pastries or chocolates. They promised to contact me when they have a bake sale, but I'm still waiting. I do wish they would offer cookies more often and tell me when they have them!!!
Lauren Wilton: I enjoyed all the classes . Chef Marco is an excellent instructor I learned so much ,the difference that really good ingredients make.i would recommend any of the classes.
Eva Choy: has a temper, unprofessional to students. Pathetic refund policy.
Kathy Raby: Ok, I wonder about the seriousness of this school? Been there twice when they are supposed to be open. Twice they have been closed with all of the lights out door locked up tight..there was nobody in the building. They advertise that they carry a large selection for all you baking needs, but how do we know that if you are not open for anyone to shop there. When i asked around the area, no one seems to know if there were classes being held there since no one is ever around.I was interested in classes with you, but with the poorly kept business hours it leads me to think you business/school is not your first priority. I think I'll just wait.
Paul Cohen-Tannugi: Learned so much from the three Artisan Bread Baking Class I took with Chef Marco. I still haven't bought bread ever since I took classes. Making them every now and then and freezing them is so rewarding. If you feel motivated, you won't regret it.
Anne Motha: I took the cake decorating course with Marco. He is a great teacher. When you are there, he expects you to pay attention and do your best. He demonstrates the techniques and encourage to ask questions. I thoroughly enjoyed the program which was offered in a compressed time over 8 days. I learned a lot and planning on taking some more courses. I will recommend this course to anyone who would like to learn more about cake decorating.
James Shaw: Chef Marco is a great instructor. You get hands on training as well as lessons on the science behind baking.
Kyle Nordman: A passionate teacher who cares about his students and their learning adventure. I have never met someone so good At teaching such a creative course. He makes you feel welcome and really wants you to understand what is happening with pastry than just following some simple recipes. Highly recommended!
Renee Duras: Poor Teaching EthicsI paid $3000 CDN (including tax) for pastry and bread training program and I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with the owner of Pastry Training Center of Vancouver- Marco Ropke and Cathy Hui.Firstly, Chef Marco Ropke’s training method is inconsistent. What is taught in class is often different in the recipe. The recipes are often missing baking temperature, baking time and there are spelling mistakes on them. The finish product at home turns out differently. When students go back for help, he brushes them off like its their own problems.Secondly, Chef Marco Ropke does not respect students. He continuously yelling at students and treats student like inferior. In his kitchen, it has to be his way or you get non verbal Put Downs. For example, students have to roll the dough a certain way or they will get a firely look and sarcastic remark from Chef Marco Ropke. What is worse is that he gets MAD at students for asking questions; this kind of negative behavior is a disgrace.Thirdly, Pastry training center offers poor refund policy. In the receipt it states “ We do not offer cash or credit card refunds, all refunds will be issues as credits […] we will keep your credit for max. 6 month.” Leaving students unable to withdrawal from the program and what can you do with $3000 in store credit?Don’t misunderstand me, if you are taking few courses for fun that’s great. But when you paid $3000CDN and gets treated unreasonably, its hard to give a good review and demonstrate magnanimity. All he desires is to make profit from students so he can ease into gentle old age.
Aprilstorm21: I have taken 2 courses from here and I have enjoyed them both immensely. Everyone is friendly and you learn so much about not only how you make things, but why it works that way.
Jennifer Cant: I took the 2 day introductory pastry course, a Christmas gift from my wife. I can't believe how much I learned from Marco. Not only is he an excellent teacher, he has entirely prepared the lessons so that there is a maximum of learning taking place at all times. The atmosphere is relaxed yet efficient. I've produced a Choux pastry desert for friends and family all of whom were very impressed. It was fun to demonstrate what I was taught.I am looking forward to taking more courses which I've discovered on his web site. If you want to learn how to bake properly and also learn WHY you should do the things you do, this is the place to learn!
Erin Dosman: I have taken the introductory pastry course and the summer preserve course and loved both courses. Chef Marco doesn't just tell you how to do things, he tells you why as well. With the information from the courses you better understand how to experiment in the kitchen. And Marco you were right - raspberry, mango, lime jam! My family will never go back to plain raspberry again.
Kristýna Šmídová: Excellent teacher, friendly class, good price, convenient schedule and much more. My initial intention was take just chocolate classes but when I saw the class and stuff Marco teachs I signed up for all pastry and also cake decorating courses. It worked very well with my job as classes are mornings or evenings and I could afford it compare to other schools. The best thing was we took home all the stuff we made. As I learnt a lot I had to sign up for bread classes as well. I was layman in the kitchen but after few months in pastry training centre of Vancouver I got so much knowledge and now I work in Thierry chocolaterie & patisserie - one of the best patisserie in Vancouver. I have to thank Marco and Cathy for everything they did for me. Kristyna
Amie Padilla: Marko is an excellent, knowledgable chef and instructor. The classes are well organized and it is truly amazing what you are able to successfully attain as the end product at the conclusion of the sessions. Would have no reservations about recommending to anyone who is interested in learning more about pastry/baking/decorating.
