Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts: what do users think?
Valerie Farnsworth: We did a fun and insightful cooking class of Japanese cuisine.Wonderful teacher and student helpers , great recipes that I WILL repeat at home
jen h: I have been fortunate enough to have two events held here for clients. This is a very unique and great team building exercise as one of the events they offer is an iron chef challenge. The basis of this activity is that you are put into teams and tasked with the difficult and creative job of cooking a appetizer and entrée using a secret ingredient that has to be incorporated in both dishes. They hosted our clients professionally and with care which was much appreciated. The experience can come in at a little bit high of a price however, it has been a very successful event and our clients seemed to love it (which is the main goal!). You have to cook for one hour and have access to the kitchen and ingredients and can talk with some of the students that are there as well. It feels very high pressure and depending how you cook or eat it could be either very creative or a little bit overwhelming but it’s all in good fun. After that, the head chef tries out all the dishes and scores everyone. Don’t fret, you do not have to only eat your concoctions after the cooking challenge. You are then presented with a three course meal done by the students. One thing I do wish they offered was perhaps a Feedback card (I understand this is difficult for a client event but could be coordinated to the organizer). The dishes we got for good, the portions were a bit small and some of the dishes were a bit over salted in my opinion but overall it was a great meal and event. There is limited parking and just have to register your car with the business beforehand, otherwise be prepared to get towed.
Joseph Harasymko: Brilliant school. Very welcoming and knowledgeable about all aspects of the culinary arts.
Marc Bellera: They have a pleasant space with good views. The pastries and snacks are really good. The reason for the low punctuation is unfortunately due to the poor quality of the coffee and the lack of preparation as baristas and fortiori in a city where the competition of coffee shops and their quality is very high. Unfortunately, bad coffee definitely ruins a good meal.
Cindi Jones: We were there for a group event and did an Iron Chef challenge. It was a great experience so much fun. And, the we enjoyed a lovely meal prepared for us by the chef. Great team building event!
G I: Used to stop by every time to buy their delicious danish, croissants etc. Lately the are smaller than they use to be. They are almost half of what they used to be. When i asked to talk to the new baker , i was told the size it is the same.We are regulars and we know what size the pastries were.Anyways, time to look for another bakery.
J F: Amazing. Love this place. Best bakery, great customer service, and relaxing environment.
William Johnson: Good classes, but absolutely terrible customer service and student communication.
Martin Merrigold: Always interesting when a place transfers to new ownership. Prices up, quality is somewhat the same but evm that has taken a hit. Too bad it was a bit of a gem. Long term staff are still great!
Richard Felske: Blue Hat Bistro is great for coffee and pastries with a view of the marina and seawall at the entrance to Granville Island.
Asif Asad Jan: It was a great visiting there.
By my reckoning: I’m an international student who graduated from here, this place was my safe space tbh, at first when I was trying to find Culinary school this is the one who always got the good reviews which I don’t know why, now I know!!! Everything here is so blessing, all chef instructors and my friends are amazing. I don’t wanna say this but I don’t wanna graduate and still stay in this school PS. As the international student, it’s hard at first to adjust but when you do you will love it!!!
Me Mehl: Nice place to find something tasty and a good cup of coffee served however you like it.
Brooklyn PA: We ordered Easter dinner. They accommodated us as a high risk family. They accommodated curbside and were so friendly via email and phone.Team was amazing 👏 Food was great.
Kawa Rammo: Amazing aria
Felicity Shaw: My partner and I took the laminated dough class on Saturday. The class was taught by an incredibly passionate and talented chef / instructor named Christian who's enthusiasm for pastry was infectious. We cannot recommend this place enough. We will definitely be back for more classes
MANBIR RANDHAWA: If anyone out there wants to be a chef, baker or anything in the field of food cooking please do yourself a good favour and invest your money in this school.Since 1997, the school has graduated many wonderful talented students who not only learned from the high quality teachers but also learn to survive in the competitive hospitality field. The school is not just a school but also a full fledged restaurant and cafe overlooking the ships, yachts and boats parked from its big glass window. What a view and so I didn’t miss a chance to grab a coffee with yummy in house baked goodies.Lets talk about the school itself. Massive kitchens/classrooms, small size classrooms , student study room with apple macbook desktops and full fledge change rooms are just some of the features. Very spacious and clean especially during covid time. All precautions and safety measurements are taken before you go further from reception. Friendly staff and career advisors are very knowledgeable and helpful. Check in with “seane “ the admission guy for all ur program related queries.
H: Do not try and get help through their website, they won’t get back to you. Pre covid.
Mali DS: Very cool spot, with great views and lots of space. I love how organized and clean everything looked like. They have a good choice of desserts and bread.I only had a coffee, bit I will definitely come back.
Bailey: Definitely one of my fave spots for lunch in the area. Fresh food & ingredients, great prices and wonderful staff.
Purple Chainz: Was a pleasant experience

Pastry Training Centre of Vancouver: what do users think?
Meagan Craven: I completed the cake decorating program in January of this year. Its intensive and comprehensive as you learn the fundamentals and techniques that are becoming a lost art. Marco is a great teacher, extremely knowledgeable, and doesn't sugar coat anything which is great as this is the only way to improve your skills. Its a small class size which allows for more instruction if you are finding a particular technique challenging, all you have to do is ask! Also the smaller size fosters a sense of comradery with the other students and is lots of fun! There is so much to learn from this program. I finished the class with a whole new appreciation and passion for cakes. These lessons are not only helpful for baking but transferable to other areas of life. With Marcos instruction, I learnt to respect each step of the process, as they are all equally fundamental in making a beautiful creation, cake or otherwise!
Giovana Nascimento: I was looking for a pastry course to improve my skills and learn new things. The Pastry Training Centre of Vancouver was the best find. Marco is an amazing chef instructor and the way the course is built and taught, allowed me to have a better understanding and knowledge of the techniques and the science behind the world of pastries and baking. Cathy is the sweetest and always welcome you with a smile.I really enjoyed it and learned a lot, and will be coming back for more!
Elisa K.: Took:Pastry Training Courses 1-10, September to November, 2014.Artisan Bread Baking Course 1, April 2015.The Art of French Eclairs, September 2015.Pastry Chef Ropke, is both, difficult to learn from if you’re low income and highly sensitive. And a vastly knowledgeable professor, and of course, excellent Pastry Chef. For which he has my deep respect.I learned to respect the hard work it takes to do French standard Pastry Art.But you also have to just check how much it costs to take any other professional pastry program. The other are priced astronomically high. And they don’t even teach the French style. The very basic North American style that is somewhat easier. You should only take his courses for education, not expect to be a pro baker if you’re not passionate about it. Saw that in one of my baking partners. She just wanted to have fun.Or be passionate and expect to work blood, sweat and tears to get to be that good at it.[[Edit: Was planning to take the Chocolate Courses, one day. But goals and priorities have changed.]]Also, run a business and see how you like how some customers treat you. You get fed up eventually, too, of the difficult to please customers. Expecting perfect customer service, even if they have unreasonable expectations. And if you want the best, sometimes you have to put up with rudeness from the stressed out Chef. It ain’t easy achieving perfection.Took me so long to review, because I had to work through my feelings, he definitely can’t win Mr. Congeniality😂~
hasan raza: Excellent place to learn and grow your passion for fine pastry, chocolates and baking.Marco is an amazing chef, instructor and person.
No MSG No Garlic Foodie: A friend of mine raved about their bread making class, that's how I found them. I see from other reviews that I am not the only one who find it hard to contact them as they don't tend to return your calls. But that's no reason to give them a low rating here so I took one star off because they are hard to connect with. In terms of rating for food, five stars. I wanted to share how great their cookies are – the best we've ever tasted – not sweet at all. I saw these by chance when I was picking up pastry flour from them. I've been there many times to pick up flour and typically, they have French pastries or chocolates. They promised to contact me when they have a bake sale, but I'm still waiting. I do wish they would offer cookies more often and tell me when they have them!!!
Lauren Wilton: I enjoyed all the classes . Chef Marco is an excellent instructor I learned so much ,the difference that really good ingredients make.i would recommend any of the classes.
Eva Choy: has a temper, unprofessional to students. Pathetic refund policy.
Kathy Raby: Ok, I wonder about the seriousness of this school? Been there twice when they are supposed to be open. Twice they have been closed with all of the lights out door locked up tight..there was nobody in the building. They advertise that they carry a large selection for all you baking needs, but how do we know that if you are not open for anyone to shop there. When i asked around the area, no one seems to know if there were classes being held there since no one is ever around.I was interested in classes with you, but with the poorly kept business hours it leads me to think you business/school is not your first priority. I think I'll just wait.
Paul Cohen-Tannugi: Learned so much from the three Artisan Bread Baking Class I took with Chef Marco. I still haven't bought bread ever since I took classes. Making them every now and then and freezing them is so rewarding. If you feel motivated, you won't regret it.
Anne Motha: I took the cake decorating course with Marco. He is a great teacher. When you are there, he expects you to pay attention and do your best. He demonstrates the techniques and encourage to ask questions. I thoroughly enjoyed the program which was offered in a compressed time over 8 days. I learned a lot and planning on taking some more courses. I will recommend this course to anyone who would like to learn more about cake decorating.
James Shaw: Chef Marco is a great instructor. You get hands on training as well as lessons on the science behind baking.
Kyle Nordman: A passionate teacher who cares about his students and their learning adventure. I have never met someone so good At teaching such a creative course. He makes you feel welcome and really wants you to understand what is happening with pastry than just following some simple recipes. Highly recommended!
Renee Duras: Poor Teaching EthicsI paid $3000 CDN (including tax) for pastry and bread training program and I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with the owner of Pastry Training Center of Vancouver- Marco Ropke and Cathy Hui.Firstly, Chef Marco Ropke’s training method is inconsistent. What is taught in class is often different in the recipe. The recipes are often missing baking temperature, baking time and there are spelling mistakes on them. The finish product at home turns out differently. When students go back for help, he brushes them off like its their own problems.Secondly, Chef Marco Ropke does not respect students. He continuously yelling at students and treats student like inferior. In his kitchen, it has to be his way or you get non verbal Put Downs. For example, students have to roll the dough a certain way or they will get a firely look and sarcastic remark from Chef Marco Ropke. What is worse is that he gets MAD at students for asking questions; this kind of negative behavior is a disgrace.Thirdly, Pastry training center offers poor refund policy. In the receipt it states “ We do not offer cash or credit card refunds, all refunds will be issues as credits […] we will keep your credit for max. 6 month.” Leaving students unable to withdrawal from the program and what can you do with $3000 in store credit?Don’t misunderstand me, if you are taking few courses for fun that’s great. But when you paid $3000CDN and gets treated unreasonably, its hard to give a good review and demonstrate magnanimity. All he desires is to make profit from students so he can ease into gentle old age.
Aprilstorm21: I have taken 2 courses from here and I have enjoyed them both immensely. Everyone is friendly and you learn so much about not only how you make things, but why it works that way.
Jennifer Cant: I took the 2 day introductory pastry course, a Christmas gift from my wife. I can't believe how much I learned from Marco. Not only is he an excellent teacher, he has entirely prepared the lessons so that there is a maximum of learning taking place at all times. The atmosphere is relaxed yet efficient. I've produced a Choux pastry desert for friends and family all of whom were very impressed. It was fun to demonstrate what I was taught.I am looking forward to taking more courses which I've discovered on his web site. If you want to learn how to bake properly and also learn WHY you should do the things you do, this is the place to learn!
Erin Dosman: I have taken the introductory pastry course and the summer preserve course and loved both courses. Chef Marco doesn't just tell you how to do things, he tells you why as well. With the information from the courses you better understand how to experiment in the kitchen. And Marco you were right - raspberry, mango, lime jam! My family will never go back to plain raspberry again.
Kristýna Šmídová: Excellent teacher, friendly class, good price, convenient schedule and much more. My initial intention was take just chocolate classes but when I saw the class and stuff Marco teachs I signed up for all pastry and also cake decorating courses. It worked very well with my job as classes are mornings or evenings and I could afford it compare to other schools. The best thing was we took home all the stuff we made. As I learnt a lot I had to sign up for bread classes as well. I was layman in the kitchen but after few months in pastry training centre of Vancouver I got so much knowledge and now I work in Thierry chocolaterie & patisserie - one of the best patisserie in Vancouver. I have to thank Marco and Cathy for everything they did for me. Kristyna
Amie Padilla: Marko is an excellent, knowledgable chef and instructor. The classes are well organized and it is truly amazing what you are able to successfully attain as the end product at the conclusion of the sessions. Would have no reservations about recommending to anyone who is interested in learning more about pastry/baking/decorating.

LaSalle College Vancouver: what do users think?
Komalpreet Kaur: Really disappointing experience with this college. I’m trying to call them from last week neither they are answering my call properly ,nor they are replying to my any mail😵.
Eva Braam: Good food, and absolutely outstanding hosting 10/10
Sofia Prado: Really disappointing experience. They sell the idea of preparing students for outside opportunities and a chance to network with industry which was never true. 7 months prior to graduation, and many students (including myself) are unemployed. Unfair that they only care about the money. I never felt a supportive environment during my studies neither after graduation.
jagraj singh 0190: Its really awesome all the staff is very respectful and helps me in very polite way
Debs WC: Their agent on WhatsApp is very rude, I am only asking just to make sure that everything I need to know before applying is correct, but the person got annoyed by my questions. Very unprofessional. Take down your WhatsApp if you do not want questions and inquiries from future applicants.
Daljeet Singh: Scam college
nhạc sàn hay: Never recommend this school for fashion design studying. This school will put u in a passive position that u have to cope with quick and superficial lectures with unreasonable tuition fees.
Duaa Yamani: I am a fashion student and would like to mention about our best draping teacher(Julia) she is knowledgeable, professional and always trying to teach us different techniques and ways to do creative fashionThank you JuliaAlso would like to mention about the receptionist and person who works in the book store are super friendly and always available to helpThank you
Alex Alex: By far, the best media arts and design school!
Manjot kaur: Best College!

Huang Alex: 小黑子露出鸡脚了吧!
Tommy Wong: 迎面走来的你让我如此蠢蠢欲动
Wenhan Xiao: 乱搞名称的人真缺德
JINFENG ZHANG: Can I see iKun here?
gustavo sdjgjsdfjd: It’s supposed to be open during sundays but they are very often opening late and not telling students, i just have sundays for working on most of my assignments and this does not help at all.
AJ Maybe: Great school! Teachers are friendly and open to help, and I find the environment quite welcoming.
madison jarvis: Great school if your looking for smaller class sizes and one-on-one learning experience.Starbucks is just across the street which is great when I need an energy-boost.I am half way through my Architecture and Interior Design Degree, and from my experience what I can say is you will get what you put into it.If you are a hard worker and you strive for success... that will be recognized amongst the instructors and they will do everything and anything to help.If you want to do the bare minimum and "get by" well then, sorry... this isn't the industry for you because its very competitive and requires hard work, haha.If you're the kind of person who has leadership qualities and would like to be involved in the student life on campus then I recommend that you join the Student Representative Committee. When I was reading through the previous comments from 2+ years ago (this was before my time), I can honestly say that from my experience I can't agree or relate to anything that those people were concerned about. The school switched ownership years ago and as a result many things have improved.

Felix Prasetyo: Learnt a ton! Chef tarek, jonathan, eric, curtis, tony, and alana were all amazing!
Jason Ma: As a long-time food hobbyist, I've been looking for a shorter pro-level program to challenge myself. After years of evening classes here, I took the leap of faith and enrolled in the 16wk professional culinary program. You have to work hard and constantly challenge yourself, but the staff will be there every step of the way to advise, support and encourage you. It' was a great experience and I left with life-long valuable skills and a start as an official apprentice in a trade.
