Jean Lyons School of Music: what do users think?
Chinh Nguyen: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,Value
KD Pirahna: My son is enrolled here. Great school.
W C: Jean Lyons School of Music is a fun music school. Teachers are enthusiastic, talented, knowledgeable, polite and friendly. Recitals are held on a regular basis, showcasing all ages and all skill levels among the school students in a warm and friendly environment. My son have taking lessons here for 5 years. He love the school and his piano teacher.
Elizabeth Chong: This music school provides a wonderful environment for children or adults to learn piano or theory. It provide a wonderful balance of teaching students to be highly trained musicians but at the same time makes it fun. My kids have been students at Jean Lyons School for 8 years (Jean Brown is their teacher, and is amazing!) , and I, too, went to this music school for many years as a child (my teacher was May Lim, who was/is wonderful). Greg Hartley and Dina Corrado taught my son theory/harmony and were terrific. All of the teachers at this school are excellent, dedicated, and supportive of the students.
Valerie Ng: After being taught there for over ten years, I can undoubtedly say that the quality of excellence and dedication from the teachers and the school is always prominent and a priority. I would highly recommend starting a music career with Jean Lyons as they inspire and instill confidence within students through lesson and performance.
Sam Lin: I've been learning piano here for over 10 years and have never had anything but a positive experience with staff and students.
C T: Feel so fortunate to have professional and caring teachers at JLSM
Anita Ho: This is an amazing music school with a variety of experienced teachers from all different musical backgrounds. We have had a pleasure to be a part of this music school as it brings out the best in our children's musical talents!
Markus Masaites: This school is an excellent environment for any level Piano student to develop them selves in theory or performance. They also have many resources to support students, such as cheap tickets to professional concerts and performing opportunities for students.
Ima Xtar: My child has been learning from Jean Lyons School of Music for 7 years and I had been a student there when I was a teenager. If you want a great school to learn music theory and to play the piano well, this is the place for you. I highly recommend this music school if you wish to pursue your Royal Conservatory of Music exams or if you wish to play recreationally.
Karen L: Both of my children have attended this school, the first since 2004. I myself am a former student. All the teachers and staff are professionals, friendly and patient. A great atmosphere, I highly recommend!
Christina L: We have been at this school for 8+ years. I am continually impressed by the quality teachers who nurture musical excellence. An exceptional school.
Michael: Best Place Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

VSO School of Music: what do users think?
veebee: I love it here.Everyone is so down to earth and approachable. It's a community that really challenges u and inspires you to be the best possible version of yourself.
Kyryll Soldatov: Piano lesson there is amazing. I would like to emphasize how good teacher Estelle is. We are going here not so long, however our daughter love music and always enjoy time with teacher. Additionally teacher does performance recital every year and this is a great time to communicate with people and to listen others great children.
Dreamscapes BC: Wonderful & supportive team, great teachers.
Jo Nelsen: An outstanding facility in Vancouver for the pursuit of music. Professional standards in every aspect.
Shevani: Lovely well maintained grand Yamaha pianos! Excellent teachers, warm staff!
Anson Li: Facilities are new. Elevator is single and slow. This needs improvement.
Kevin Guo: My friend really likes the sinks. He always makes multiple 15 minute trips to the bathroom every time we're there.
Adi Chiru: VSO SoM used to be great. They have a great facility but it feels less and less used properly. They also used to be quite inclusive to really share love for music and music education to anyone. Now not so much; you get cut out from various events for no reason after you registered and invested effort, time and money to prepare. They make promises that they forget. They treat competition at kids level very unfairly and amazingly visibly. They made it very frustrating to even be a student there. I hope they will remember what their mission really was and is and act accordingly.
Karen Emmond: Hard to beat this school for its standard of excellence in teaching and customer service! Beautiful facility also models the school's high level of respect for all ages pursuing a musical education. As an adult, i have thoroughly enjoyed summer classical guitar instruction and my teenaged nephew's beautiful voice is nurtured and polished through thoughtful, talented guidance provided by Diane King and the jazz and vocal departments at VSO school of music. Lots of performance opportunities too!
Karen Gerbrecht: My son studies piano, chamber music, and percussion at the VSO School of Music. We are delighted with his teachers, his progress is terrific, and he loves his lessons AND practice!ss is wonderful (he succeeds at the highest level in all of his Festivals
R K: Beautiful classy place with so much character. No better place to learn music in Vancouver. 10/10
Neill M: Great facility but a lot of stairs! There is a coffee shop downstairs but the school is within walking distance of various other downtown amenities.Avoid impark and other lots that charge up $6 an hour! Street parking is half that, but does not start until 9:30am.
Linda Ly: Our son is loving the Mini Maker classes - and so are we! We’re in our 3rd term and plan to continue as long as he shows interest. He loves the songs and we love that they have purpose. Fun and educational with their lifelong learning of music in mind even at this young age.
Daniel Rae: It’s expensive but it’s worth it if you want good musical education. It gives you benefits like free practices room and discounts on concerts. Had an amazing teacher.
joseph Flack: You won't find a better music school in a central location that has the variety of interactive learning facilities, great and supportive teachers, brilliant practice rooms available almost anytime!

Horizon School of Music: what do users think?
Davi Nakano (davinotdavid): I took drum lessons with Ricky Sanderson and I can't recommend him enough! Amazing drummer and teacher, he has helped me wonders in my journey through music. I really appreciate him, Sarah and everyone else at Horizon.Highly recommend the school!
Sophie Gordon: I started voice lessons at Horizon a few months ago after years and years of being too shy to sing. I have been enjoying it so much! Greg Dent is an amazing teacher. He has helped me get over my singing shyness and our classes are always so fun! Highly recommend :).
Nick Gomez: By far the best music learning centre I have been too. I strongly recommend going to them for any sort of music knowledge. Notably Danny and Chris are amazing and So is everyone else there is as well!!
Enayat Ahmady: I have been a vocal student at Horizon for a couple of months now and they have not only helped me improve tremendously but also gain confidence. I am currently training with Neil Mcmillan who is a wonderful instructor that wants to see you succeed but also makes sure to push you to improve. I highly recommend Horizon School of Music for anyone that has always thought of branching out but were too afraid to take the first steps. They are great with communication and they make sure to listen to your goals and set you up with the right instructor to fit your needs. Thank you to Kris, Sarah and the entire team at Horizon for helping me out!
Katie Boughen: Horizon has been a place of inspiration and support for me and my musical journey. They care so deeply that you find a right fit with your teacher and constantly check in with their students about how they are doing. I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else and I’m so excited to keep learning and growing here❤️
Kylen Fox: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueExcellent vocal instruction from Neil McMillan, and the administration helped to pair me with him as a coach which was a great help. Great communication from everyone. Highly recommend.
Lumen Beltran: Great music school! Their team helps you get set up with a music teacher who is aligned with your interest in genre, level of ability, and personality. I take voice lessons with Rocky every Wednesday and she is awesome :) Very friendly and knowledgeable!
Suu: Best decision to sign up for lessons. Great people and awesome teacher.
Barry Petkau: Horizon has been a wonderful discovery for our son as he began learning guitar and bass over the past year. He really connects with his teacher and Jacob has inspired him to practice more to improve his playing.
L Shields: I highly recommend Horizon School of Music. I have taken both private and group sessions from Kris Schulz and Rob Hamilton and have been thoroughly impressed. Both guys are excellent players and teachers and really put an effort in to improve your playing. As I live in Seattle, I take the lessons over the Internet. Despite the distance, I feel like we are working in the same room as they are very used to dealing with online learning. I also appreciate how they keep the lessons fresh by mixing Music fundamentals in theory along with learning pieces that are interesting to me. Horizon also has a great online presence with resources that are available to students which allow you to track your progress and access various worksheets that assist in tackling particular challenges we face as musicians. The teachers at Horizon keep the process of learning fun through online workshops group concerts and the like. They provide free clinics in the community and have engaged in fundraising efforts for people who are facing challenges. They truly are a bunch of good people. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
Alison Gibb: I’m a long time student of Horizon School of Music and chose to continue my music lessons online when I moved to Australia. The personal guidance from the Horizon team and their deep understanding of how to best support my learning is second to none. I always leave my lessons feeling excited about my progress and inspired by where my musical journey is going. Recently for one of the more technical lessons we recorded the session so I was able to go back after the fact and break everything down again step by step which helped a lot in absorbing the material. The teachers I have worked with have each been amazing in connecting to my musical pathway and taking me in meaningful directions towards my goals, with skill progression that feels challenging, satisfying and most importantly, musical. I always look forward to each lesson and the personal connection and tailored instruction makes me feel like a valued part of the Horizon music community.
Wanda B.K. Boyer: I am so grateful that a friend recommended I take lessons at Horizon School of Music to begin my journey with the guitar! I had an introductory call with Kris, and he asked me incisive questions to determine what instructor would best suit my level of past musical experience, my learning style, and the type of music I would be interested in learning. He was so warm and encouraging, and even gave me a tip on how to form that pesky F bar chord!Kris matched me up with Madeleine, and she is AWESOME. She is so kind and patient with me, and her teaching techniques are impeccable. I really appreciate how she teaches me, say, a scale or scale patterns, and then WHABAM it’s the basis for a song that I’m going to learn! Also, Madeleine has a really keen sense of new songs that I’ll be motivated to learn, and has really laid out clearly what I need to do to gain competency. She makes me feel like a million bucks by identifying when I’m following along with what she’s teaching, when I discover what she’s leading me towards. I’m stoked to be able to learn from such an accomplished musician and supportive teacher!
Nicolas Arnaud: I participated in both Advanced Improvisation and Music Theory online courses taught by Kelly Brown and Rob Hamilton. Both courses are excellent, I had a blast with both of them, enjoyed them very much.Kelly opened the door to so many possibilities and as always, having the opportunity to learn from him is really precious. He has lots of experience and lots of skill in the craft. He has provided a lot of guidance that is so rare to find elsewhere because not so many people have it, and very precious indeed, but most importantly because he cares about his students' development. I feel very fortunate to have him as a teacher, and sometimes I feel the need to practice more to pay homage to all the things he has shown to me and taught me :) I believe the most important thing is that I'm progressing and as Kelly said, to keep moving forward.Rob has provided an excellent resource, reference and background of music theory, but not just theory, applied theory I would say. His course was perfectly structured and delivered, and one thing that comes to mind is the huge number of songs and examples he provided where music harmony was applied, with lots of my favourites as part of them. He would demonstrate these examples live and simply, with an acoustic guitar. The course was a pleasure to attend. To be honest, we could go for hours, poor Rob, he almost had to kick us out. He has also provided reference material and books which are great to have.Having both workshops has been amazing, both teachers are excellent and they provide two very different approaches, and if I had the time, I would probably continue learning from both.I hope they become a staple of Horizon's workshops as they deserve it, the workshops are golden opportunities to advance one's learning as a guitarist and as a musician; and that they continue with a sequel of these courses in the future.I recommend these courses to anyone.
Marco Duenas: Start it playing around with my guitar when the shut down occurred. Was mostly trying to do things on my own using YouTube and web, just whatever I could find and whatever sounded good to learn. Best decision I’ve ever made after months of struggling not really knowing what to do was partnering up with Horizon School of Music. Wow, I wish I could’ve gone back and started with them since March. I wasted so much time and what a difference Kris has made in my world of music. I’m a blind person so I was very skeptical about how learning an instrument online would be. I’m in Los Angeles and was unsure if doing this on zoom or FaceTime would work. Well, it did and it Has. I love the school and everyone that I have come in contact with has been simply awesome. My progress has been so fast and so much fun. Kris listens to what I say and really Taylor’s the class for me. He thinks outside the box and it’s not there just to show me how to copy a song that I want to learn. Although that’s what I wanted, just to play the songs I like but now I’m improvising, playing a couple of tunes and singing. Wait, what? I don’t sing, well, I guess I do. Can’t wait to see where I am six months from now, stay tuned!
Melanie Reynolds: Great experience...know how, space and good people
Dave C: It's a time in life when I can finally focus on something I dearly love, music. My wife and I had stumbled upon Horizon School of Music to see a concert (Trevor Gordon Hall--amazing!). That was a year ago. The place had a certain something about it that I could not put words to, but I knew it was the right fit for learning guitar the way I wanted to learn it.I asked Kris for a recommendation from his roster of instructors. I told him I wanted not only to learn guitar, but also how to produce my own music at home. Kris told me about Kelly, so I went with it. And wow.Kelly and I have had 4 or 5 lessons to date. I don't think that even if I had traveled the world and interviewed thousands of potential teachers, I could have found a better fit than Kelly. He is exactly, precisely, what I was looking for to help me in this journey.I am deeply grateful, and looking forward to growing as a musician with Kelly and Horizon.Thank you Kris and Jillian!
Patrick Dore: Finding a guitar teacher that "fits" is no easy task especially as an adult student. Kris listened and set me up with Kelly Brown. Kelly has been challenging me since day 1, always keeping me rooted in the very basics of music while expanding my skill set. He is a very experienced and intuitive educator and, while it always hasn't seemed so, has improved my playing dramatically in a very short period of time. Isn't that why we take lessons from experts? Thanks
Michelle Jenkins: Kris and all his staff provide an amazing teaching/mentoring service for musicians of all ages and abilities. We lucked out when our guitar loving son got a chance recommendation to look Kris up for lessons (back when Kris was inspiring students from his home studio) over 6 years ago. Since then Kris has gone on create an impressive school of diverse, dedicated teachers for multiple music disciplines. The school is very attentive to individual needs and flexible in their approach and delivery (including online scheduling, payment and remote lessons as requested). Over the years we’ve racked up lessons weekly, monthly group blues and jazz sessions , weekly jam sessions/performances to one-on-one jazz guitar (with the master Kelly Brown). It is with immense gratitude that I recommend Horizon School of Music.
Linh Jiang: Horizon school of music is a great place for my daughter to have her violin lessons with Hannah. They are flexible and always willingly help adjust our schedule whenever needed. The owner Kris is very personable and my daughter was very happy to meet him so that he can help us set up our lessons. Thank you for your professionalism, friendliness and patience.
Adrian Coyne: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueHave had lessons with Rob & Rocky and they have both been outstanding in all aspects of teaching from how they interact with students to their music knowledge. Kris was also very helpful from the start in organizing lessons and taking an interest in the music I was interested in learning
Paul Ngo: I am so glad I found Horizon School of Music. Although I have just started I feel I have learnt so much already in such a short amount of time. The staff are amazing and welcoming. They definitely have made it a point to observe my needs / goals as a musician and match me with a instructor best suited to me (Kelly Brown, great teacher) If you have any plans to pick up and learn an instrument I would definitely recommend Horizon.

I remeber signing up my younger son in grade seven. I rember my older son starting his first job at Bikes For All just down the street and working on Sarah's bike for an upcoming auction while his brother was singing and strumming.Last year Sarah's foundation had my boy's back to get into the Berklee School of Music. 楊井博士: Cole is an excellent teacher. He is very professional, positive and friendly. He makes classes fun to learn. Highly recommend.
Jade lanore: Cole is an excellent, inspiring and thoughtful instructor and is also considerate and patient. He has been instructing my daughter since she was 5 years old, allowing her to pursue her own musical tastes and encouraging her to try new things, including performance and song writing. At 8 years of age, thanks to Cole, she now has the confidence, skills and love of music to play and quickly learn new favourite songs on her own. I highly recommend Cole’s classes.
Karen Campbell: Over the past 4 years Cole has taught our every member of our family how to play the guitar, from beginner chords through to advanced classical guitar to our now teenage son. He's thoughtful, creative, and his enthusiasm for music makes for a great experience.
Annemarie Kaan: Have been having lessons with Cole for 2 years now. Cole has a great way of teaching that fits with your pace and your wishes in terms of music choice. He's always patient and has the ability to impart his great talent and skills to students of all ages. The end of term concert is always fun, no pressure and good incentive to practice! I would highly recommend Cole for guitar or uke lessons.
derek root: Cole is a knowledgeable, energetic and fun teacher who imparts solid technique and at the same time instills a deep appreciation of music. He is extremely professional and warm in his communication style. Our daughter who is 11 has been taking lessons with Cole for 5 years. She started with ukulele and is now playing electric and Spanish guitar. Cole has also put a band together with other students of the same age. It’s all great and exciting! I highly recommend Cole as a guitar instructor.
holly Townsend: Hi. My name is Robin Townsend. I participated in Coles group lead guitar class. I developed a lot of new skills in a short time. Cole has been very encouraging and helpful. It has been an fun learning experience. The video lessons were particularly helpful. Thanks Cole. Looking forward to seeing you soong!!!

stanley cw fung: I feel Cole loves what he does and makes you feel great when you are learning and improving. He creates a very comfortable environment for a beginner student.
tim welsh: Cole is just the right instructor for our son. Cole keeps him engaged, and successfully challenges him to learn new things. In the 4+ years Cole has been his instructor, our son has progressed from being a new learner to being accomplished with the ukulele, guitalele, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar - and Cole has got him singing at the same time. We hope Cole is our son's instructor for years to come.
Trevor Thomas: I recently completed my first term learning the ukulele with Cole. He is a great teacher – kind, patient, and passionate about teaching. The lessons were structured around learning chords through playing songs. Cole is very positive and encouraging, and he allows his students to progress through their own discovery, experimentation and learning. Cole provides a video summary after each lesson, which is very helpful. Highly recommended.
Lesley B: Cole is a fantastic dedicated teacher. He truly loves what he does and it shows. Our daughter started with him playing keyboard as part of a kids band he was putting together and private guitar lessons. She had been paying guitar for a couple of years, but she made huge improvements in only a couple of lessons with Cole. With the band, he has encouraged the kids to busk and play gigs, volunteering to drag his equipment along and help them set up - he goes above and beyond.
Jonathan Wong: Cole is awesome! The classes are small groups which is great and Cole sends a video of what we covered in class which makes practicing easy. Highly recommend!
Paul Whittle: Great teacher and the group classes are fun !
David Crowe: I really enjoy my weekly lessons with Cole. As a beginner he has helped me improve tremendously over the last six months. A great class and a great guy!
George Hoberg: I took beginning guitar lessons from Cole and he is fabulous. I was quite nervous about it, being 61 and not having had any music training. But has been very effective - patient, calm, and manages to make learning fun. I took a group lesson from him and it was a nice way to learn. I highly recommend Cole's Guitar Lessons!
Adam Henderson: Cole's a great teacher and customizes his approach to the individual student.
Amanda Pitre-Hayes: Cole is a truly exceptional teacher. He put together a super fun group of us for our intermediate lessons that resulted in an experience that was both social and instructive. He is super good at meeting you where you’re at as a student. Stretching you when you’re ready to grow, and bringing you back into the fold if you’ve been too busy to practice for a spell. Positive, efficient, fun... Can’t say enough about his talent as a teacher. Have learned so much from Cole and am already looking forward to the next term.
nathan Matthews: Cole is a fantastic teacher! If your child has an interest learning to play an Instrument, Cole is a very patient and thorough teacher, his instruction had made my son's enjoyment of playing drums grow and grow!
Kathy Wong: Cole is an excellent teacher! He takes a very positive and engaging approach to his lessons. He is always introducing my son to new and challenging pieces of music, and he always goes the extra mile by providing additional instructional videos and such to his students. Not many, if any, other teachers do that. And he often provides other support for his students outside the classroom, helping with gigs and with choosing/purchasing the right instruments. He's quite dedicated to his students!
