BC Women’s Hospital: what do users think?
Steve Kasica: Both of our kids were delivered here, 10/10 would recommend again.
Bonkowskiart: The staff are excellent and most of the facility seems nice but SWEET BABY MOSES! The arbutus wing is trash. 3rd world hospital conditions. Apparently at this hospital 70 % of births here are done by c-section those who endure that hardship go to a recovery ward in the tiniest rooms all ghetto trashed with violent toilets. New father's like me have to sleep on the floor and some of the rooms have windows into hallways?? Please rebuild this wing.
Samantha McIntosh: I had a procedure done here recently and the staff in the surgical unit were amazing. I was an anxious mess and they were all so friendly and made me feel so at ease. I’ve never seen a group of staff so calm that treat you like a human and not just a patient they need to get in and out. They also made sure I had the right next steps and medications I needed to be as pain-free as possible. I have absolutely zero complaints.
Gabrielle Cholette: The nursing staff is incredibly supportive and attentive. They were kind and informative. The Dr. was effective and very good at his job but a little bit cold. Overall, would highly recommend this clinic to other women.
mafe garmon: Kind Emergency staff , doctor, nurses and triage. Thanks
Obie O: Weird vibe
OneFiveThreeSixTwoFour VR6: Wonderful place to give birth however I've had 2 bad experiences during my first and third birth. I don't want to sound sexist but the first lady who was trying to give me an epidural in 2008, told me to sit still and shut up or she wont be able to give the epidural.. I was shaking in fear as it was my first birth at just 20 years old... the nurse handling my premature baby was very rough... very bad experience. 3rd birth in 2020, the doctor on call which was also a woman, wasn't compassionate at all. She was annoyed... and told me to go home as there was nothing she could do. I had an emergency c section 2 days later...... 1st lady was blonde, nurse was east Indian and the last was Chinese... I never liked Chinese doctors. No compassion or any bedside manners. (I am Chinese so I'm very aware of how our culture is despite what white people say)Anyways, I've held in my experience long enough and I feel much better.
Sergei Lenkov: I would say first that all the nurses and doctors were very professional and caring and this is the most important thing you are looking for when you and your partner are about to have a baby. Special thanks to nurse Ling for detailed explanation on how to properly do the breastfeeding to my wife! They also gave us an extra day to stay for my wife to recover from unplanned urgent surgery - made a difference. She was also provided with food and all necessities for her and our baby. The building itself is in good condition, all the equipment was modern and had everything that might be needed. You can also buy a meal and/or coffee at the cafeteria or buffet if you're hungry. The minor things to improve are a lack of place to sleep for father in the room (had to sleep on mattress on the floor - although I did not care after 24 hours of no sleep), waiting for anesthesia an hour extra cause anesthesiologists were busy and waiting for urgent surgery cause there was another more serious surgery going on (still my wife was constantly checked on her condition)...But all in all, everything went good and our experience was very positive and I would recommend the place for meeting with your baby!
marcos almeida: My wife arrived at the hospital pregnant (8 weeks), bleeding, and they told us there was no available ultrasound. Guess what? The doctor said:” the ultrasound team will call you through the next week and book a day for you to take the ultrasound.” This is unbelievable and unacceptable! Because she was bleeding on the weekend, we must wait until Monday. I’m wondering how this place which called itself a woman hospital, does not have an ultrasound for pregnant available for emergencies? It's reasonable and more than necessary an improvement for them.
Jasmine Carlson: I had day surgery today and every single staff member that I interacted with were so so lovely. I have never had such a calm time at the hospital, everyone really helped me not feel anxious in the slightest even having an IV in which is a huge phobia of mine went smoothly and didn’t cause me anxiety like it usually does. There was even a dog that came to say hi beforehand which was so great for calming any anxiety I was having. I had anxiety when I got to the hospital but by the time I went into the OR all of that anxiety was completely gone. 10/10 staff ☺️
Marcia Matchett: The best I have ever been treated and I finally feel Amazing after years of struggling.
Deniz Soykurum Çetin: I have had mammograms and biopsies at this hospital. The doctors, operators, nurses, and anyone working here is lovely and caring. They explain everything, they make you comfortable. Best care. Always grateful.
Gail Latowski: If you are just getting a Covid test and not pregnant or you don’t work in health care don’t go to this clinic. They will send you to 1290 Homer St. and now you have to pay for the test- $45. or $65. depending on what you are getting.
Megan: We received OUTSTANDING care, attention and guidance throughout the delivery of our first baby at BC Women's Hospital. Thank you to Dr. Rosengarten, Dr. Wong and all the maternity nurses and support staff. Absolutely fantastic health care teams at this hospital!
Enzo Guo: Great Doctors and Nurses, but the tiny parking stall is annoying, almost guaranteed door ding. I got a Tesla and I can tell people are being very careful but however I still got door ding on both side.
David Howell: I just wish I could give BC Women's Hospital 10/5 stars. The staff were down right incredible for the birth of our first child. Can't imagine that experience without them.
RobJamie Lee: We had an AMAZING experience delivering at BC Women's. This was our 2nd child but first time delivering at BCW. EVERY nurse we worked with were pleasant and professional. Everything was organized and we felt were were under the best care possible. We were also pleasantly surprised how good of the food was and how we get to pick what we'd like. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to stay at BCW this time. THANK YOU BC Women's and the entire team we are so grateful for you.
Kevin Cooper: My wife had 3 beautiful and healthy babies here and our experiences were absolutely wonderful and perfect. Especially considering babies 2 and 3 were twins! (Thank you, Dr. Blumenthal). Thumbs up!
Muffet: born here
Kim J: Please investigate well enough for the case, recent accident, the loss of 2 persons, a mom and baby.
Rodolf Bugaci: The c-section doctors were excellent and Dr.Lyons with her group were amazing but the nurses at the Arbutus recovery room were horrible. They mad my wife and me feel very uncomfortable. Kate and Jen secretly kept asking my wife regarding her personal life at home and if there is domestic violence when there was no apparent reason to do so. When confronted, the nurse in charge Jen, said that there is no reason for all the interrogation and that it is just standard procedure but it did not feel like standard procedure. My wife does not even want to come to this hospital for future pregnancies. Our stay was uncomfortable and filled with assumptions and accusation. The nurses do not change baby diapers even when wife is alone and still recovering. They did not bathe our baby at all even after 24 hours. The rooms are the worst I have ever seen in my life, no one has come to clean the room, floors are sticky, walls are damaged, very disgusting and dirty. No actual couch or bed for husband to sleep on No hygiene control what so ever. Worst experience ever. Will file a formal complain with the department as well and will be contacting CBC news so that everyone in the lower mainland is aware as well. Whatever you do, never accept to recover in the Arbutus wing.

BC Women's Labour and Delivery: what do users think?
sootchh 1: My wife (who had late pregnancy and gestational diabetes) and twin daughters (TTTS, prematurity and extreme underweight at 3lbs and 4 lbs each) were saved right here, 15 years ago. My wife had to be bed-rested for 8 weeks prior to a scheduled C-section. Lucky that she had her own room. They are super-healthy now. The volunteers who work here are absolutely amazing.
sarbjeet kaur: The Women labour and delivery ward in Vancouver is very good. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I had my baby girl delivered there and all the nurses and doctors are experienced and very calm. I loved to get service from nurse name "Chantal". She was the best and helped me a lot during my labour!!!! Excellent care👍
Miles Forster: Excellent care for our the birth of our baby ❤️
David OS: Amazing hospital and units. They are experts and know what to do and how to do. They know about women, children and babies and know how to deal with situations.
Keziah Yamamoto: This is not an urgent care centre that can treat all adults. BCW is a maternity hospital - ie. can treat pregnant or postpartum people and newborns.

Pacific North Birth Services: what do users think?
Mickael Mandonnet: My partner and I feel incredibly lucky to have had Emma as our guide through the birthing process. Her kind, calm demeanour and her level of knowledge gave us both a great deal of confidence. The day of labour and delivery could not have gone more smoothly because Emma's presence allowed Nancy to fully focus on the process she was in.Emma's fluency in French gave us peace of mind - knowing that quick, tough decisions may need to be made in the delivery room and that she would be able to walk us through our options clearly - whatever the circumstances. Our nurse couldn't believe we only met her once before that day and told us she thought we were long time friends.I will be giving Emma my highest possible recommendation to every expecting couple I know.
Kirsten Taylor: Emma was so helpful, we couldn't have done it without her - a kind voice that guided me through my labour and made it the positive and happy birth we wanted.
Anita Kainth: Emma was absolutely wonderful!! She was present during my labour and a major support system for me and my husband. She was calming, knew her way around the hospital which was so helpful! I needed some pain relief and after buzzing the nurse no one came. She was awesome in grabbing the tank and things for the nitrous so it would be ready for them to administer. I had a 12 hour labour she was there all night supporting me, soothing me, got me popsicles, sandwiches and also was checking in on my husband to see how he was coping. During the pushing phase I almost gave up she motivated me to keep going. Honestly I think every women should have a doula at their birth no matter what!! And if your going to get one Emma is your girl!!
Sara Lovell: Emma worked with us during labour/delivery and postpartum following the birth of our twins. During labour and delivery she stayed by my side and was a very reassuring and calming presence throughout a long labour and an eventual emergency c-section.Then, her support for 3 months postpartum was hugely invaluable. We would not have made it through that postpartum time without her! She was with us from 10 pm - 6 am several nights a week. She always listened to what I was struggling with, made great suggestions, fed the twins a bottle of pumped milk when I asked, brought me delicious snacks during nursing sessions, and was truly miraculous at settling both babies to sleep downstairs while I slept upstairs knowing they were in great hands (and I didn't have to listen to them grunt and groan in their sleep, so I actually managed to have restful stretches of sleep!). While we all slept, Emma made lactation cookies, prepped food for the next night's dinner, washed dishes, folded laundry...you name it! Any quiet chores that I needed help with that night. She also gave some extra special attention to our older daughter one morning when she woke up before Emma left - my daughter still talks about how much she liked Emma even now 3+ months later!Emma's sensitive, caring nature and her seemingly effortless confidence and ability with newborns really made us feel supported throughout those early days / months. Can't recommend her enough!

Down to Birth Prenatal: what do users think?
Danielle Wolfe: We absolutely loved this class with Alison and Marlene! As experienced and knowledgable labour and delivery nurses, they provided everything we hoped to learn and more in an extremely digestible way. We left the day feeling so much more informed and clear on what to expect, and are so happy to chose this class to attend. Thank you both for your time and for sharing your expertise with new parents!!
Jillian Klassen: I couldn't recommend Allison and Marlene enough! After completing the full day prenatal class, my husband and I feel so much more prepared for labour and delivery. I now know all the information we need in order to make well informed decisions during the process and feel more at ease about everything. They are both engaging, knowledgeable, friendly, approachable, and make the day really enjoyable. I also appreciate that they are inclusive to all different family types through the language they used in the class, as well as all types of labour and delivery choices.
Tessa Danelesko: Best pre-natal class ever! We were engaged all day and left feeling much more prepared. We still talk about our learning weeks later. 10/10 recommend!
Philippe Lapointe: Great class with all the info I was looking for!
Dimple: Very informative class! Definitely eased some of the nerves for labour and delivery. Any questions or misconceptions we had were clearly addressed. We feel more ready for baby! Glad we attended:) Alison and Marlene were great and very knowledgeable.
Megan Bonn: Alison and Marlene's Down to Birth prenatal class was so informative, especially for those mamas delivering at BC Women's. They shared so many insights on what to expect from the moment you arrive at the hospital, through all stages of labour and delivery, and for those first few hours/days postpartum. After taking the class, I am feeling much more confident and prepared for labour and delivery!
Katrina Dutkiewicz: What a great class! Alison and Marlene really made for a fun day and the time flew by with lots of helpful tips! Highly recommended!
Ryan Lee: This class was super helpful and informative! There was a ton of information to fit in but Alison and Marlene managed to keep us entertained and engaged throughout. Highly recommend!
Julia McGuinty: AMAZING! Alison and Marlene made this day informative, exciting and entertaining. My husband and I can't recommend it more. Thank you so much ladies! Your passion and love for what you is admirable and your energy is infectious! xx
Ailish Bergin: Alison & Marlene were very informative, knowledgeable and engaging during the whole course. They provide you with all the information and tools you require, encourage open conversation about your fears and concerns and quickly help to put you at ease. They are very reassuring and even though it is a long day with lots of information they had enough energy to keep the class engaged. They are very supportive and advocates for both mom and dads to have the labour they want by going through all scenarios and options available. It was nice to see that on the day we did our course it was the dads to be who were asking the questions and getting very involved. I had a follow up app with my Dr after the course to go through some options available to me but I already had the information I required, great job ladies. I would def recommend Alison and Marlene’s course for all soon to be parents.
Sonia K.: My husband and I signed up for this class hoping it would be in-person, and were disappointed when it was changed to a full-day online instead. Despite our hesitation, we decided to stay registered with the Zoom version and are so glad we did! After spending the day learning and laughing with Alison and Marlene, we feel more prepared, calm, and focused on what we need to do in the next few weeks to fully prepare for our first baby's arrival at BC Women's Hospital (where they both work).Alison and Marlene clearly have a great deal of experience and practical knowledge about pregnancy, labour, and postpartum that we were not able to find through the extensive research we were doing on our own. We also found it helpful to be able to ask specific questions and have them address our worries with honesty and sincerity. We highly recommend this course. It is well worth the course fee, whether online or in-person!
Caroline Philippson: This class was exactly what we wanted and needed. These two are informative, caring, hilarious and so knowledgeable. I would HIGHLY recommend this class to anyone and everyone expecting.
Kelsey Snape: This class was so great!!! Marlene and Alison made us feel informed, empowered and ready to have our baby. They managed to cover a huge amount of information in one day, without making it feel overwhelming. The dynamic between the two of them kept the class laughing all day! We were unsure what it would be like to do an in person class during covid but it was clean and safe and I think, so important to be face to face with other couples who are also having babies. We now have a small community of people that we can continue to connect with after we have our babies! Thanks so much Marlene and Alison at down to birth for helping us new parents feel ready for this crazy new adventure!
Kate Freeman: This class was everything I had hoped it would be. Alison and Marlene are obviously experts in their field, but also kept it fresh with a great sense of humour. It was an interesting, informative, empowering class held in an inclusive, and safe environment. Definitely would recommend.
Jennifer Melbourne: Amazing class! Both women were very knowledgeable and very friendly. I would highly recommend this class to first time parents.
Suzanne Liu: Excellent class! Very informative, run by two very knowledgeable Nurses. My partner and I greatly enjoyed the class and can't recommend it enough!
Camille Lopez: Just completed their one day course, and I can not say enough great things about it! Alison and Marlene are amazing!! They are oozing with useful birthing knowledge, and are super funny and engaging. At first, I thought I would only be doing this for my husband, but I also learned so much! If only I could shrink them and put them in my hospital bag when that big day comes. 😝
Farhana Raheem: The Down to Birth Prenatal pre-natal course gave my husband and I the information and confidence we needed to feel prepared for labour and parenthood. We found Alison and Marlene were so knowledgeable, humorous, and matter-of-fact in their teaching. We went through the stages of labour and what to expect and had a lot of our questions answered. There were a few videos shown in class that was helpful for us to gain an understanding in the labour process and the aftermath. The class also included some very useful information for breastfeeding and the choices couples could face during delivery. We felt good about having all the information presented to us to consider and felt it wasn't biased one way or another. My husband and I both agree that we were glad we took Alison and Marlene’s class. We feel it helped with our understanding and addressed our fears and anxiety. I highly recommend this class.
cristobal capponi: Excellent and totally recomendable. 👏👏👏.

Blue Moon Birth: what do users think?
A: Jen was the sister I never had and always wanted! HIGHLY recommend her as she was/is a truly exceptional doula with extensive experience & knowledge. As the bio on her site beautifully shares, she has 3 lovely young children of her own-this was important for me, to have a Mom as my doula so that her 1st hand experience could inform/guide me as a 1st time MumHer bedside manner is kind, calm, gentle, comforting, balanced & empowering--she helps you reach the depths of your energy & strength with a pleasant, relaxed & grounded demeanor. She offers insight & info & is never judgmental with the direction you choose to go in, a commensurate professional.I had to have an ECV late in my pregnancy: it was 100% thanks to Jen & her brilliant coaching approach that it was a SUCCESS!! She is who you want in your corner in any medical setting-the calming, stable force that I needed to realize that it was indeed a safe procedure, that I could totally do it; I always have the power to do the hard thing. & that I have agency and options--always--. She went full coach mode: immediately at my bedside when it began, locked eyes with me, we were in sync/connected & I was able to get through the procedure buoyed by her expertise. (Jen herself had a successful ECV--deeply reassuring). A dynamo, SO on top of her game!We did a home birth: my partner and I were on the fence yet remained open to it; in addition to her personal professional experiences, Jen provided us with medical resources, peer reviewed studies, stats, books, articles & videos to further inform our decision--it was the best one we could have made! The safest, most comforting, empowering, ideal route for our family; I am SO pleased & grateful we went in that direction & not with the automatic, over-medicalized option of strictly hospital (which is what we were previously conditioned to believe was "obviously" the best, safest option). We were on our own schedule, on our own terms, & I was made optimally comfortable with the birth pool in our living room-- which felt HEAVENLY. It was an aqua-dural, the relief I felt from the warm water was tremendous. A calm serene atmosphere is integral to the quality of the birth experience and I was able to labor under the best conditions with the safety/security of Jen, my midwife Zoe from Bloom, and the phenomenal support of my loving partner Kyle.Jen set up and tore down the pool, kept tabs on its temperature/ regulated it, made my partner and I smoothies, assisted with snacks/refreshments, boosted my partner's morale & supported/coached him as well, but mostly guided me. She helped me power through the rhythm of my contractions reminding me to keep my breathwork low, slow & long--very key. With our permission of course, she even took some pictures, capturing lifelong cherished memories. Priceless. From the moment we secured Jen's services, she helped my partner & I throughout the pregnancy, birth, & postpartum in such instrumental ways. It was sad after our last postpartum visit to bid farewell. If we expand our family, we hope to have Jen once more as a core member of our birthing team.Jen's passionate commitment to her profession & clients is commendable--I had a longer labor/birth and she was 100% supportive throughout and afterwards to my partner, myself, & our little guy. Above and beyond the call of duty. I felt held in the best ways possible.Could not have done it without her.As a final note, Jen's assistance on my breastfeeding journey was beyond pivotal. I am currently at 6 months, still successfully breastfeeding my son with no end in sight, (striving for 1yr. & its going great!). The outset was quite challenging and I honestly didn't know how I could possibly make it to the 1 month mark. Her tips & insight were all integral to my journey.WE LOVE YOU JEN!! Thanks for being so phenomenal and for providing Vancouver with such an excellent, high quality service; your work is so beautiful & important. Keep fighting the good fight; doulas are an immeasurably valuable asset to the community, to society as a whole.
Greg Elliott: Jen was exactly what we needed for our first pregnancy. Her dedication, knowledge, and accessibility made us very confident throughout the entire process. During labour, she provided a calm and positive presence that reassured us that we were taken care of. Anyone who is looking for a doula to help them with their birthing experience, look no further.
Ekaterina: I had a beautiful birth sealing ceremony with Jen and it was such amazing experience. After having my first child I wanted to do something to honor my body for what it had to go thorough during pregnancy and labour, but at that time I could not find anything that would feel like a celebration of a woman becoming a mother. So when I got pregnant second time I started looking for belly binding services and I came across Jen’s website. I could not believe my eyes when I went through her website. I wanted everything she had to offer. I ended up selecting her Lakshmi package.  Jen was kind enough to agree to come all the way to Langley. For sure I was a bit worried if her services would be what I imagine it to be. Rest assured it was and even more. Who could have known that taking a bath with herbs, flowers and candles would be so enjoyable and relaxing! Jen made me a gorgeous flower crown which I wore during my birth sealing ceremony. I loved every bit of my ceremony. Jen is lovely and easy to chat with. She made me feel taken care of. Just what a new mother needs! I highly recommend her services and I feel like every new mother should invest her time and money in celebration of becoming a mother and in honouring her body for carrying a child and giving a birth. I am so grateful for finding Jen, she helped me to thank my body for all the job it did caring and giving birth to two beautiful healthy babies!
Laura Robertson: Jen always went above and beyond to be accessible and to help me get set up for birth, including sourcing lemon verbena oil for me when my midwives had run out and bringing birthing pool in advance of my due date. She was always accessible by email or text, and I felt like she was there with me throughout my late pregnancy, not just during labour. When my waters broke Jen came immediately even though contractions hadn’t fully started. When she arrived, Jen immediately helped to set the calm environment, making gentle suggestions about lighting and music. The room was peaceful, with dim lights, and my favourite music playing. Looking back, it felt like a sacred space. Jen was gently supportive throughout birth, giving me physical help through contractions with massage and her TENS machine. Her presence was calm and unobtrusive. She was a quiet cheerleader and I appreciated that.Theo was born at 3am. After he was born, and the midwives had left, Jen stayed and cleaned up, then quietly left. Her profound respect for childbirth was clear in her decision not to intrude on our bonding with our new baby. When I eventually got up, I found that she had brewed sitz bath tea and left a spray bottle of it in the bathroom as well as 2 jars of it in the fridge. It was so soothing, and I used it for days afterwards. On her final visit, Jen also brought tinctures and teas that she had made herself. She also gave me some lemon verbena body butter before the birth, to help with the at-home induction. It was these thoughtful acts that make me say that Jen goes above and beyond as a doula. She clearly sees her role as more than just support through labour; she supports the entire process of becoming a mother.I just cannot say enough about Jen’s work as a doula. She is informed and educated, and her presence is quiet and respectful. No matter where or how you choose to give birth, her presence and support will be invaluable, and she will help to create a sacred birthing space.
Sarah Stanford: Jen Allan -Doula at Blue Moon – ReviewJen attended the home-birth of our second son on January 1st 2018. Jen joined our mid-wife birth team with the primary function of sibling support for our 3-year-old boy who was to be home during the birth. However, the service that Jen provided to us far exceeded these expectations.Jen was a great support in the lead-up to the birth and was available to answer any questions or concerns we had about the upcoming delivery. Her advice was always informed and thoughtful. We had expected an earlier due date with a fast labour and delivery. In anticipation of this, Jen checked in with me regularly over the Christmas and gave me great confidence that she’d be ready to come by quickly when the time came. As it transpired, Jen got to our home within a half an hour of labour starting (arriving before the mid-wife team).During the birth, Jen helped with our son as we had planned, but also provided me with a huge amount of practical and emotional support. Her experience and caring nature meant that she intuitively knew what I needed during the entire process – from a back rub, supportive words or suggestions, and even a dose of her gentle humor. Having Jen at our son’s birth felt like having a member of our family there who really cared for our comfort and wellbeing. We would highly recommend Jen as a Doula for anyone wanting calm energy and an experienced pair of hands at your birth.
Angie Ho: Jen was an excellent doula and provided great support before, during, and after the birth of my son, and I would highly recommend her!Jen had a wealth of knowledge about pregnancy and birth. She helped my husband and I feel very comfortable and prepared. I thought she had gone above and beyond our expectations. We wouldn't have made the decision to go with a home birth without Jen's guidance; it was the best decision we could have made!
Lori Guerrard: Jen is great! I am glad I found her. I will elaborate later.
Tatiana Ischenko: Jen was introduced to my husband and I as a backup doula and I thank God she was there during the labor and birth. First time we met her was at the introductory meeting when my contract doula went away for a few days a week before my due date. Jen came to my home and took her time to review my birth plan, learned about our unusual circumstances and concerns, and immediately provided us with very good recommendations. I found her resourceful and focused on addressing our concerns. Since Jen has 2 kids herself, it was also very helpful to learn about her own birthing experience.Jen was called back into action on the day our labor has started. Our contracted doula has informed us that she hurt her back and that she was in pain. She contacted Jen around 3 pm and Jen was available to help us at 6 pm. She arrived on time with all the supplies and jumped into the process as our labor has progressed after 12 hours of close contractions. While at home she assisted us with pain management, hydration, and staying nourished. The tenze machine that Jen brought has been invaluable with managing the initial pain. Jen seemed to be always present, yet not intrusive as the contractions increased in pain and frequency. She suggested additional techniques and positions as she observed my husband and me working together. After observing the labor for 4 hours she made the call to head to the hospital according to our initial plan. After arrival to the hospital and getting admitted, Jen quickly set up the room according to my wishes and worked with nurses to create a pleasant atmosphere and get necessary supplies ready for the long night of contractions. My labor was not an easy one. The contractions went into my back and counter pressure administered by my husband and Jen were helpful. We moved to the bath tub and labored for a few hours there. We had a bad experience with being twice misdiagnosed by the resident OB who first admitted us and later told us we were progressing well. It was crushing news after 12 hours of laboring in the hospital to find out from the attending OB that not only we didn’t progress, we shouldn’t have been admitted. Jen saw our disappointment and was trying to keep us positive and work with nurses and formulate a new plan for our labor.Unfortunately, with the pain level and the progress we had to revert to interventions (breaking water, and morphine, and laughing gas).Jen arranged for coverage, while she had to take a break after being with us for over 12 hours. We were glad she offered to continue assisting us as we were approaching full dilation and preparing for pushing. My baby boy ended up being posterior, which explained the terrible back pains during early labor and while pushing. Jen tried to work with the nurse to get the baby rotated. Unfortunately, after 2 hours pushing and unsuccessful attempts by the doctor to turn the baby, we ended up having a C-section.Jen attended the surgery with my husband and took pictures and welcomed the baby with us into this world. Our bay boy was born at 5 min after midnight. As promised Jen visited us in the hospital the next day and checked on us and the baby. We went over my birthing experience and shared our thoughts and feelings. It helped me to fill the gaps in my recollection of the events.I would describe Jen as dependable, punctual, caring, and grounded. She helped us through most stages of our complicated labor and delivery. If I am to do it again, no doubt I would call Jen!
Lesa Pryce: I am a first time mom who had a home birth and I would highly recommend Jen Allan to be your doula. Jen was a wealth of information and support right from the get go. Upon our first introductory visit I felt a sense of comfort with Jen. She was patient and spent a great deal of time answering all the questions that my family and I had. Once she was "on-call" for my birth I felt a sense of relief knowing that she was just a phone call away and that I could check in with her for any issues. She gave me a great deal of critical advice and suggestions to prepare for my birth. When I went into labour Jen knew just what to say and do. She created a wonderful atmosphere in my home full of peace & calm and it was clear that my comfort was her top priority. She encouraged me throughout my 16 hour labour. She was also a great support to my husband, gently guiding him to support me best while knowing when to give us space. She was right there when I needed her, holding my hand (& at one point my leg!) for hours. Jenn stayed after the delivery of my son for hours to help clean up and also came later with homemade nutrient rich food specially made for new moms. She continued to check in with me and provide support and resources following the birth. We were so happy that Jen was our Doula she was a major contributor to my positive birth experience and I highly recommend her as she is incredible at her job!

South Community Birth Program: what do users think?
Elysia Wilson: Received thorough and empathetic care. Midwives, nurses and doulas are super knowledgeable and supportive. They genuinely listen to you and are patient centred.
Erika Swinton: I am so thankful to have had nurse Stephanie at the South Community Birth Program for our little one's first six weeks. Stephanie was extremely knowledgeable, supportive, and provided excellent recommendations that helped our baby thrive. I can't recommend this program enough (and nurse Stephanie in particular)!
Hilary Cooper: I feel so lucky that I got placed with SCBP for my pregnancy! Every single person on the team I received care from was incredibly compassionate, kind and knowledgeable, particularly Emma (she’s the MVP). I’ve had such bad experiences with medical professionals in the past and had a lot of trust issues due to that, but with SCBP I felt listened to. You can tell they really care about their patients. I even had an IUD placement that was a breeze (previously a traumatizing experience). Lori listened to my concerns and provided compassionate care. I’m almost sad I’m not going to have any more kids because I’m going to miss the amazing care at SCBP!
Adrian D'Alessandro: I sincerely wish all medical care could be delivered with the attentiveness and thoroughness provided through this birthing program.
Ling Tan: I had a really positive experience with South Community with both my first and second pregnancy. Michelle, my midwife, delivered both pregnancies and was really attentive, compassionate and knowledgeable with each prenatal and post partum appointment. I never felt rushed at all with my appointments and also took the opportunity to get connected with a doula through their doula program.Highly recommend 👌
Melissa Lavoie: I had such an amazing experience throughout my pregnancy and postpartum. I felt very supported by the team. I definitely recommend this place. I also joined their prenatal class which was informative and allowed me to make friends with other expecting moms. I highly recommend getting a Doula through their program. Lauren was amazing and we were really grateful to have her support.
Ritu Hans: I was referred to this cliniv by my OB for postpartum care. I have never in my life received such high quality and compassionate care. I can't say enough about how well my newborn and I were supported. I had a complication in recovery and the team handled it over the phone on the same day! I had the medication I needed the same day instead of having to book an appointment and go in person.Louise helped me, a new mom, navigate taking care of myself and my newborn and she answered my MANY questions and addressed every single one of my concerns (I would literally bring a list of questions and concerns to my appointments). She had a genuine interest in my well being and I will forever be grateful.
M Sajid: We are very impressed about the service and professionalism of South Community Birth Program. We are thankful to you.
Laurel Plewes: I was with this clinic for my second pregnancy. I came to this clinic because i was excited by their model and had heard great things. I was really happy with my choice. We had a couple little issues early on but ignored them. Then we found out at 20 weeks that I needed to terminate the pregnancy. The clinic promised me to provide the necessary follow up for up to two weeks after the termination. After the termination no one from the office followed up with me. I called the office three times asking for someone to call me. When someone finally called two weeks and a half weeks after the termination she talked about her personal issues for the first ten minutes and i had to comfort her. Not appropriate or what I should be expected to do after my own loss. Because they didn't reach out to me until after the two week mark they would not see me or provide me with postnatal care even though it was their fault. Then when I was pregnant 4 months later I filled in a referral for my new pregnancy to see them again. They never got back to me. No call or email. Nothing. I didnt follow up to see if they just didn't want me as a patient any more or my referral got lost. Neither option is good. I was let down by this clinic and am now receiving care from another midwife group. I sincerely hope you do not have the same experience as me.
Hieu Lu: Honestly, such a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. We felt such a HUGE LET DOWN once we got discharged from them.As a clinic, they are great and treat you very well as long as you are still a patient with them; but once discharged YOU ARE NOTHING because you are no longer $$$$$ to them.My wife and I have been going to the clinic for the entire pregnancy to the birth of our son Aiden; but once the have been release back to our family doctor, we're strangers.2 weeks after discharge, Aiden is now close to 2mons old and not yet had his 1st vaccination. In the middle of the night around 2am he felt very warm and feverish. As first time parents this scared us very much. We didn't know who to call, so we called the clinic nurse on duty, who straight refused to even listen to us; she would not let a very concerned father explain; her reason was because we are no longer the clinic's patient. What kind of medical profession are you to refuse to help a feverish baby just because he's no longer the clinic's concern. We needed help, our baby needed help; so we turned to the people who we trusted with our baby's life with but they REFUSED TO HELP A FEVERISH BABY. We took Aiden to BC Children Hospital, he pulled through thanks to the help from the medical staff, NOT SOUTH COMMUNITY.Past forward to today, Aiden is now a health 4mons old boy. We took him back to Vietnam to visit the Grandparents for a month now. 2nd Vaccination booked but only 1 problem. The doctors here wants to know the origins for some of the shots (ie: brands and the country they're from) so they can use the same one. Yes this pretty much surprised us because this information isn't available on Aiden's medical passport. So we called long distance to the health clinic thay administered the 1st shot; got transferred to the nurse on duty but got asked to leave a voice msg instead only not knowing when we would get a response and if they would call us long distance, we're currently in VN.Out of the nowhere, my wife suggested to call Lori the nurse at South; Lori is great btw. I asked my wife if she forgot about last time. "Lori is great, she will help with the info" my wife said. She convinced me to call for our baby's sake. I made call, got the girl at reception. She remembers us by the way. Still "I'm sorry we can't help you since you are no longer our patient." that was the response I got; she won't transfer me to Lori. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER.this is our story with South.
diana agaba: We are truly grateful to SCBP staff. Our first baby is 6 weeks now, and looking forward to all that wonderful care, friendliness, beautiful smiles, ... for our next pregnancy:)Having joined SCBP late in my pregnancy, your professionalism exceeded our expectations! You took over our worries so we can relax and enjoy the pregnancy. Thank you! Special thanks go to Lori, Preveena, Steph, Susie, Becca, and Melanie our doula for the great job. God bless.
Kimberlee Michelle: We loved the care we received while pregnant with our first baby. We will be returning to SCBP for our second pregnancy as well! Alison and Kiran made our experience so positive. The prenatal group classes helped us grow friendships with other first time parents who we now have baby dates with! Highly recommend.
Samantha S: I would highly recommend Community Birth Program. We went with them for our first birth and we intend to use them for all future pregnancies. The access to prenatal information, doulas, lactation consultants, acupuncturists, naturopaths, and chiropractors was invaluable to my pregnancy. They made our birth dreams possible and I had the most beautiful home birth because of them. The midwives are so knowledgeable, caring and easy to talk to. I can't wait to use them again in the future.
Brittny Ohs: I'm a first timer, and now halfway through my pregnancy. I was new(ish) to Vancouver and didn't have a clue where to go for my prenatal care - I couldn't be luckier to have found South Community! They are so wonderful, every person I've worked with (from reception, to nurses, to midwives, to doctor) has made me feel fully cared for. They are so comprehensive and welcoming! I am relieved knowing that they have my best interests in mind, and are so knowledgable. I am so grateful to be with them for my pregnancy!
Reaia Greenberg: Highly recommend. Great team of caring nurses, midwives etc... Be sure to sign up for the 10 prenatal classes. It is worth every penny. Not only do you learn a lot, you get a belly check at every class, and you make friends who are having babies the same month as you.
M.S 89: Amazing doctors, midwives, doulas, nurses and front staff! They will help you everything to be able to have the best birth experience possible. I'm so glad I found SCBP!
Morgan Del Vento: Love this clinic. I have been here as patient with both my babies and service has been outstanding. The midwifes are beyond helpful, intelligent and caring, they take enough time with you and are there for you whenever you need them. I became very close with my midwife and my pregnancies and labour were so calm and comfortable and I truly believe that is why. 10 stars for this place!
Audrey Tannant: Excellent program for first time parents. The staff are amazing and make you feel like a part of a community, rather than just a patient.Informative, caring, open minded, clear and honest from pre to post natal care. I recommend them to everyone having a baby.
Jeff O.: Especially for parents expecting their first child, this is an amazing find. We had some complications which they prepared us for. We also had a midwife join us on a 911 "conference call" at 2am and was waiting for us at the hospital when we arrived. Wonderful support.

The Childbearing Society: what do users think?
Merri Bays: 11/10 excellent experience with Stephanie’s prenatal classes. Everyone should take these classes, pregnant or not. We found each class SO helpful and informative, I truly felt prepared and empowered during my birthing experience and was able to challenge recommendations from the birth team and turn a scary situation around. On top of that my husband is now fostering an awakened love for biology :)Also! Aside from the class, there is so much support for afterward; and meeting up with other members post kid is wonderful:) this place deserves awards from the mayor for sheer excellence.
Tara Drage: My husband and I took the 7 week prenatal class. The class was good but very basic and should cover more topics if pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding or other post partum issues arise that aren't as planned. I felt quite unprepared when I faced a c-section and troubles with breastfeeding and supplementation (pumping/formula) and getting a newborn to sleep, when co-sleeping is not an option. A regular vaginal birth and labour were covered in great detail but not enough info was covered on induction and what to do when things do not go as planned. Instructor was nice and I met a great group of couples but content is definitely biased, based on your instructor and their values.
Vanessa Konn: Highly recommend to anyone expecting! We took the full prenatal course with our first baby and the found it so helpful for labour and post-partum preparation that we also did the refresher course for our second. Evidence based teaching with really experienced and knowledgeable instructors.
Dominique Basi: Loved the birth refresher course, a great way to prepare for our second kid.But I can’t recommend their breastfeeding / chestfeeding class enough. It gave me total confidence in my baby and body, with the support to reach out immediately for any issues.Lovely people who do great work.
Lisa Yang: It was a pleasure having Stephanie as our instructor. The class was very engaging, informative and enjoyable. We appreciated all the time and effort put into the details of every class, down to the relevant information boards in the washrooms. I'm so glad we took this class instead of just watching online videos. There's just so much more that those videos don't mention, especially all the evidence-based information.
Aryana C: Stephanie was an incredible instructor! My husband and I felt fully equipped with the skills and knowledge for my birth and life with a newborn. I highly recommend the Childbearing Society as a place that will augment your preexisting knowledge around pregnancy as well as provide you with new information that will help your transition into parenthood.
Cody Rocko: Taking the 7 week prenatal course was easily one of the best decisions we made for our pregnancy. We are first-time parents who felt a little dazed by all the information out there. Stephanie was an amazing teacher. We went home every week with lots of new things to discuss that we simply didn't know anything about beforehand. This course gave us lots of options to consider backed by data and also just made us feel simply more empowered to advocate for the birth we realized we could have. If this is your first birth, I couldn't recommend this course more.
Anna Regev: Great little place that offers huge support to expecting parents! I have been a part of the baby circle & it helped me so much as first time mom — definitely helped me bond better with my babe through the connections created during the sessions & learning experiences. Thank you!
Sharleen S: Took the “Healthy Pregnancy” Seminar and Prenatal classes with hubby through Childbearing Society. They did such an amazing job with evidence-based information, practical ways to practice compassion throughout pregnancy and being overall supportive to any further questions. Will definitely be checking out their postpartum resources as well! Thank you so much 3
Anna Ikonostasova: My husband and I took prenatal classes with Stephanie and really enjoyed them! Although we did lots of research, reading and learning about birth before these classes, we still got a ton of useful information. Stephanie taught us pros and cons of different situations during birth and baby care, encouraging us to make our own decisions based on what we think is best for our family.
Victoria Barber: Recently took the prenatal classes with my husband - we highly recommend. We had agreed if we just learn one new thing, or get confident about what we already know - the class was worth it. But we got a wealth of brand new information, learned a lot of useful skills and information about stages of labour and what babies go through post delivery, it was a really great weekend of learning. The instructors were lovely, inclusive and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend to all first time parents or those looking for a refresher.
Eunice L: I’ve taken several classes here and it has been a great resource to connect with other parents. An important thing I took away is like every other resource to not just take everything at face value but use what you learn and hear as an invitation to find out more during your own independent research.
Bethany Dobson: My husband and I took the 7 week prenatal class and highly recommend it. We’d read various birth/baby books, and we still learned so much! Stephanie fit an amazing amount of information into each 2 hour session. We appreciated that she took time to explain how much a partner can do during birth and the newborn phase. We also thought she did a good job balancing “wellness” versus “medical” beliefs and assuring the group to make their own choice for their families. We didn’t fully agree with every point of view, but I think that would be impossible considering all the differing opinions about birth and health. We don’t fully agree with each other either!
Tiana Sharifi: This is strictly for the prenatal classes. I only gave the 2nd star because the instructor was a nice woman, however, these classes were the biggest disappointment and waste of money we made. We chose this class because their website provides such a detailed outline that we thought it would be thorough and detailed. "Rudimentary" is the word my husband used to describe it. If you are someone who naturally reads a book or two or googles information, you won't learn anything new in this class. Both of us heard no new information or knowledge- it was so basic and information was so basic that we gained nothing but wasted hours of our time and weekend. In addition, the instructor shared opinions that were harmful such as stating that newborns are very resilient and covid shouldn't be a huge concern.....hospitals and experts of course are stating the opposite given babies don't have an immune system when they are first born.Information regarding once the baby was born was missed as well- such as swaddling, burping, and colic. Instructor didn't believe in swaddling but research has shown it is safe with particular forms of swaddling sleepers.
Kyla Lalani: Critical:QualityA lot of very dangerous ideas and suggestions mentioned in this class. None of their philosphies are backed by science.
Marbie Alura: I highly recommend them! My partner and I attended the Pleasure in Pain Workshop, Birth Prep Class and Breastfeeding Clinic. All of them were informative, inclusive and well worth the time and money spent. It was also great to connect with other soon to be parents! Kudos to Jasmine and Stephanie, they were our instructors for two of the classes and they were both great!
Taryn Lalani: We took the 7 week prenatal class and the 3 hour home birth seminar. Instructors were incredibly knowledgeable, kind, generous with their time, and were so supportive of questions.
Katka Dojcakova: This was one of the best decisions I've done to register for these prenatal classes. Aleksandra was so captivating, I was looking forward to each class. Very informative and helpful.
Sarah Whittall: My husband and I attended the weekend prenatal and breast feeding class. We both valued the information that was taught to us, the instructors were very knowledgeable, and kept things interesting. This was a very worthwhile class to take.
Dikun Yang: Helpful knowledge. Great experience. Highly recommended!
Michael Dee: I highly recommend the prenatal class with Aleksandra Henderson. She has an excellent attitude and approach when it comes to birth and everything that goes with it. This was is a very helpful and informative class with practical advice. The classes are very well organized and well presented. Aleksandra is very knowledgeable and experienced with the birthing process. From pre-labour to post-partum, she has many tips and a lot of wisdom to share.I've always thought these types of classes would be kind of "hokey" and I'm sure many of them are, but this is not one of them. As a partner who feels very much like a spectator to the whole process, I now have a much better idea of what will happen, what might happen and what our options might look like. Aleksandra was very good about giving us time to ask questions, even outside of class time.Unfortunately, we aren't in the market for a doula, but if we were, we would confidently hire Aleksandra.
