Pottery: HiDe ceramic works: what do users think?
Amberly Chung: The owner and Momoka were amazing! I love how cozy and kind the atmosphere is. The owner has many many unique glazes and clay as well as his own pieces displayed. You come in and make up to two pieces on the wheel and then you choose a glaze and in two months you pick it up! They glaze and trim it for you! I love how positive they were and encouraging of each piece no matter the skill level. They truly want everyone to have fun and encourage them to be free with their minds and hands. If you’re a first time pottery thrower, definitely come here for a good experience!!! I will be coming back since I miss wheel throwing and I love how you can make whatever you want there. They also charge you by the weight of your pieces which is better than other competitors that charge a flat rate with less time / more charge for glazing etc. thank you for today!!
Zachary Yamaoka: Patrick was an awesome teacher. Really happy with my bowl
Vinson Tam: We have not done ceramics nor pottery before and decided to do a drop-in session at Hide Ceramics. Our instructor, Haneu, was super patient and walked us through all the steps of wheel throwing basics. In the 80min session, we were able to make either 2 bowls or mugs of our choice as well as choose the finishing for it. This is a great option for those who aren't looking to commit to multi-week classes, but want to explore the world of pottery. You will have to wait 2 months to receive your work however.
Yug Gug: I had a worst pottery experience at this studio. I hide my real name since I want to stay away from him. He is a terrible instructor. I do NOT recommend to take his pottery class.
Brendan Stookey: I've been throwing clay here for a little over a year and absolutely love this place! Everybody is so kind and helpful. All of HiDe's pieces are incredible and inspiring and he's such a gem of a person. Every week I'm excited to get into the studio
Breanne Lehodey: I have been going to HiDe's studio for more than three years as a regular class student and absolutely love it!Students are free to be independent and self-directed with their work (which is not the case at many other studios) and progress at their own pace (I work full time and am only in the studio one evening a week). There is always an instructor to answer questions and give advice and guidance to help students at all levels develop their skills; and there is total respect and support for each student's unique aesthetic/method. The studio has a combination of hand building and wheel throwing (electric and hand wheel) and many types of clay, so you are free to choose how you would like to work and experiment. The atmosphere in the studio is friendly, cosy and calm (there's always good music playing), and students at all levels are constantly chatting and bouncing ideas off each other. It is a beautiful, supportive and judgement-free creative space to spend time in and I can't recommend it enough.
Graeme Bates: Attended a drop-in in 2019 and took classes for 3 years. Love this place so much! The studio is a cozy space, and the teachers are friendly and are keen to help out however they can. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to learn the art of pottery.
Eden Hayley: I adore HiDe. I go to the studio once a week and I've learned so much from the instructors and fellow ceramicists. I like that the regular "classes" are not formal lessons, and you can come with your own ideas and the instructors will help you execute your project. Really friendly environment and very welcoming!
Jason A: I've been taking classes here for over a year now. The instructors are very knowledgeable and I have been able to create a lot of pieces for home use as well as for friends. Highly recommend.
Irene Ng: We've been taking regular classes at HiDe for about 1.5 years now. I really enjoy the freedom to explore my creativity and clear my mind of everyday stresses. The community is so supportive and fun, I look forward to it each week. The instructor gives you advice and mini lessons when asked but a lot of learning is through practice. I may not love every piece that I make, but I very much enjoy the process of getting there.
Breigh Butchart: Instructor was great. Impossible to contact to get my pieces. Emailed 10 times no answers. Left my number for a call - no response. Very unhappy considering amount spent. Was told they would deliver to Winnipeg as we reside there too confirmed I’d pay the shipping and all.
Hello My Name is May: My first time doing pottery on the wheel! My instructor Patrick was amazing and simply explained the process while guiding us through each step during my 80 minute session. I decided to make a ramen bowl 😁
avp: The instructor we had was a bit pushy.
Mitchell S. Zimmerman: We had a great drop in class with Miho. Super useful demo in the beginning and she helped us fix it when we were struggling.
Brandon Lin: ⸌̷̻ ( ᷇๑ॢ˃̶͈̀ ꇴ ˂̶͈́๑ॢ) ⸌̷̻
Lavina Wijaya: I did 2 drop in classes at Hide ceramics studio, once on my own and I loved the experience so much that I came with my family the next time :)Our instructor, Airin, was very professional and dedicated to her craft. I felt that I had learnt a lot about pottery making through her instructions. She also went around to make sure we were able to create the pieces we wanted, and mentioned tips to improve our skills. 10/10 would take the class again!Had some fun taking pictures of the finished products afterwards hahah
ahna kim: This guy was a rude and totally poor teacher. I was looking for a ceramics studio online and remembered that I took a course here a couple years ago and didn’t finish the course because of the terrible vibe here. I would be remiss not to leave a review here. I would stay away.
Sarah Abdu: I got COVID and informed them the day before I need to reschedule (not cancel) and they refused. They took my $18 deposit and refuse to let me book another time unless I pay another $18. How am I supposed to know four days in advance that I’m going to fall sick? COVID is well alive in summer 2022 and you don’t have a policy for it? It takes 3 days to get a response to each email and there’s no phone number to reach them. Wouldn’t recommend. Terrible experience.
Clayton Inglis: Love this studio so much!Although it is very small, the guests and staff are so friendly and helpful. They will provide you with all the tools your need and teach you the techniques necessary to make your piece. Highly recommended.
Tomo I.: It was my first time to try pottery and it was fun! I had a great experience in the class. The owner of the studio and the instructor were very nice and friendly. I would definitely go back.
Kuny: My wife and I had a private lesson from the owner Hide.He showed us how to do it from the basics and let us try and feel how it is fun to do. At that time, he was making a lot of lamp shades for a restaurant in Whistler which is opening soon. We are very impressed by not only his skills but his passion for pottery. He is a real artist and always challenges something new. Other instructors are also friendly and their instructions are easy to follow. I highly recommend to drop-in here and having fun creating something unique for yourself.

Hand Eye Design Ceramics: what do users think?
Ana Lucia Martinez Arias: I took the beginner's class with Riley. They are the most AMAZING teacher I've had! I have taken before classes at other studios and community centers and this is the first time I feel I am really advancing in the skill. Riley was informative, fun and challenging as a teacher. I like their non-bullsh*t approach to teaching. The studio is bright, airy and, most important, welcoming to all! I highly recommend beginning or continuing your pottery journey here! I'll definitely be coming back for some more muddy joy. 👐⚱️☺️
Francesca Iriola: Took a private class last month for my boyfriends birthday and it was such a lovely time. I really enjoyed the lesson in an open space with lots of natural light. James was a great instructor who was patient, attentive, and was incredibly knowledgeable. Can’t wait to go back!!
Anselmo Quidangen: Went on a private date session taught by James! A very cool and chill dude, who was very helpful to us newbies. Good conversations and overall good vibes.
Bryce Lagrimas (BryceLags): We had an enjoyable and amazing experience thanks to James. His years of experience shows, as he provided us with demonstrations and instructions that were clear and concise. The studio was spacious and bright. We will definitely be coming back to attend another class!
Derrick Clouthier: I recently completed a 6 week beginner course at Hand Eye taught by James and am starting another course next week. James was incredibly informative, enthusiastic, friendly, and provided great one on one feedback throughout the course. The studio provided a fantastic low stress environment to learn and practice a new skill, and his approach of demonstrate then practice allowed a great mix of information and time on the wheel. To address the elephant, Craig's review below couldn't have been further from my own experience and I highly suspect its a case of getting out what you put into the environment.Overall, this class provided a great introduction into the world of wheel throwing and highly recommend anyone interested to check out this studio. For anyone considering taking a course, the absolute highlight for me was the free open studios. Most other studios in the city charge a fee and being able to practice and simply get more time on the wheel every week accelerated my learning and allowed me really valuable time to practice and gain comfort on the wheel. In addition to classes I usually spent another 6 hours a week practicing and creating cups, bowls, and vases, which honestly was an incredible value compared to many other studios. I easily saved $200 compared to the fee's I would have incurred at many other studios for the additional practice time, and came out with a ton more finished pieces than I would have if I didn't make use of the open studios. Finally, James and his team are all a fantastic group of welcoming and amazing people and create a great sense of community if you take the time to chat and say hello to everyone. Psyched to be starting another course soon and couldn't recommend more as a great place to try out ceramics.
Justin Mo: Very good teachers! Super friendly staff, easy to book!
Carly: Nice community-oriented pottery studio that felt welcoming as a beginner but still offers lots to learn as I progress. Prices are reasonable for classes and drop ins. Have taken a couple of workshops and my experience was that some instructors were better than others. Riley was great and they are always happy to answer the endless questions I have about techniques and supplies.
Kai Scott: My partner and I had a wonderful date night pottery instruction with Alleah, who provided such a relaxed environment and clear instructions. And Alleah also helped us out when we were floundering and averted a few pottery emergencies. Lol! We caught on quickly with encouragement. I highly recommend Alleah and the studio. Thank you for the good times!
Famille Arzoumanian: amazing place!! super friendly and experienced teacher!
Craig Kenny: I learned a lot over the 6 weeks, gained a huge appreciation for the craft of pottery and am very happy I finished with a few acceptable pieces. Having said that I do have several major criticisms of the class I would like to share. The biggest one of all being the class was NOT made to be in any way fun by our teacher James. The focus was solely on learning the EXACT RULES we have to follow and not at all about having a good time and learning along the way. Paying $350+ and feeling like I was going back to high school was really a frustrating experience. I feel like we were not being taught as adults but rather teenagers that needed to follow strict rules; having now been to another studio this really is not how the art form should be taught. As well as this way too much of the class is taken up with demonstrations which felt more like an ego trip for our teacher James than a lesson. Again when paying this amount for an experience I personally would like to spend most of the time doing the activity I am paying to do and not watching someone else do it for 45 minutes before starting. Having spoken to a few of the other students they also agreed that they demonstrations were way too long and too detailed to retain any information. We would all just forget and have to ask again once we started. The last 2 things I was disappointed about were the studio itself which is extremely cold and not very nice to be in. Having signed up based off the photos on the website i was upset to be put in a “overflow” space down the street (see attached photo). And finally the fact that we had to wear masks is simply a joke at this stage. I’m a very responsible and safe person regarding my health but this alone was enough to ruin my experience. There isn’t a single place in the world outside of hospitals that these are still mandatory and wanting to have a relaxing experience after work was very much tarnished by this frankly ridiculous “rule”. There are a ton of places in the city to learn this beautiful art form so take your business there if you are looking to have a good time.
Justin Sebastian: Fantastic teachers and great space. Learning from a range of different teachers enhances the experience showing there are multiple ways to do any one thing.
Rebecca Liu: good teachers! a fun bonding experience fro my partner and i! hopefully we get some sick bowls n mugs out of this! woohoo!
Sohan Mishra: Feels like Therapy!!
Adam Koussa: Instructors were knowledgeable and talented but too fast. The amount of information and techniques need a week to digest them properly at least. Definitely not my pace. The instructor kept saying “does it make sense?” while im not able to even understand what he said in the first place. So no, it doesnt make sense. And Yeah, i will skip on pottery in general.
Jude Conroy: I took a 6 week beginner wheel throwing class and it was fantastic! The teacher (and TA) were amazing - so patient and encouraging and explained/demonstrated really clearly, the studio was bright and people were really helpful. It was such a fun thing to do. I wasn't sure what time expect but in the end I came out with a bunch of pots I'm really happy with. I would highly recommend this class!
Maryam Golriz: I had a wonderful relaxing times shaping clay with friendly environment, instructor and classmates.
Jocelyn Chew: My kids and I did our first private class last year as a birthday activity and loved it so much we did a group class together afterwards and just recently another private. Lots of fun, great memories and beautiful bowls and vessels to remember our experience with ❤️ Thank you to James and all the staff for their knowledge and enthusiasm, it feels like a great community to be in.
sally suh: Had the most incredible time with James ( instructor) during our private lesson today ( me and my bro+sis in law) the smaller class size gave us alot of 1:1 instructional time allowed us to practice the various techniques! We all completed our vase/pot/bowl and felt like pros after , thought it was our first time ever ;) thank you James for the memorable time and we can’t wait to pick up our finished glaze works of art!
Nancy Duan: James and his assistants, Zoe and Sam, were great during a private class for 11 people. It was about 2.5 hours on the wheel and 30 minutes for cleanup. James took us through each step of the process and our group made bowls and cups. His instructions were clear and he and his assistants would help everyone individually as well during each step. Definitely learned that wheel throwing is not easy but we all had fun and learned something new. Thanks!
Tate: I recently took the beginner wheel throughing class here with Rylie. It was so fun and I learned alot. Rylie is a great instructor who challenges you to be confident and just send it and make the pot. I would highly recommend this studio and Rylie :)
Kallista Dittrick-Katevatis: Took a beginner throwing lesson with James yesterday as an anniversary gift from my boyfriend! We made some pots for our first go. Really great thorough instruction and care to help us understand the proper techniques of pottery throwing. We loved to hear about how they like to recycle materials wherever they can as well! Thrilled to hear that he also teaches figure sculpting, looking forward to taking one of those classes in the future.

Community Clay Inc.: what do users think?
Madeline Rigg: I have taken a number of classes with Myriam and have loved the experience. Myriam walks the fine line between offering plenty of guidance and giving students the space to figure things out on their own. She is warm, welcoming, and patient. I came in with no experience and feel like I've really learned the fundamentals that will set me up to have a good practice moving forward.
Jessica Bennett: The space is beautiful. They have beautiful glazes. It is clean and well taken care of. The staff are incredible artists, and on the surface everything is great! But quickly after becoming a member I started to see this wasn’t the place for me. I had a decent experience but here’s what I think you should know.Drop ins are usually offered 3 times a day. The door is locked until the exact minute where you check in with a staff. If you don’t come within the first 15 or so, they will lock the door and you will miss your session. It was convenient for me, but rather inflexible. While other studios in the city give keys with 24h access.Clay must be purchased from their studio, no exceptions. No tongs, no exceptions. This isn’t a problem for me, however it’s kinda ableist. To glaze your pieces you must take “glaze workshops,” a minimum of 4. They are specific on where the glaze bucket goes on the table and other procedures. These workshops fill up quickly. After that you can “check out” to then be able to book the glaze station. This glaze station is also an extra and offered at specific times which fill exceptionally quickly.I took 5 workshops and I had glazed several items before (as you have to have taken 2 classes before becoming a member). The price is cheap because you can start with basics (3 classes a month for $75) but with the extra drop-ins and glazing workshops, I was spending just as much as other studios. The owner wants it truly to be a community. But the lack of trust she has towards folks at the studio creates an environment which is completely the opposite of that. The business model isn’t working and I wouldn’t recommend this studio.
Jules Chatel: I went to CC for the intro class to pottery wheel turning. Miriam was our instructor. Totally enjoyed the class, Miriam is a great teacher. I’m looking forward to enroll in the fall for the 8 weeks session.
Mark Nah: I had signed up for the beginner's wheel pottery evening class as I was curious about the craft. There was about 8 of us in total and Miriam welcomed us warmly into the class. She demonstrated the basics the method and she articulated in detail the key things to be mindful of to be successful. We each got onto our individual pottery wheels with a lump of clay to try. As we were all first timers, we had to learn how the process was like by some trial and error. She went to each one of us and told us why we were struggling and what we were doing well. She was spot on with her observations as she had clearly done this a lot. All of us were able to make a clay vase. Some were progressing better and were able to make 2 or even 3 vases, bowls etc. There was more than enough clay for us to play with and we were encouraged to experiment and just get a feel for things. It was truly a wonderful experience. The pottery wheels were close enough that you could chat with your neighbor/friend but far enough that you could be lost in the craft of the pottery wheel. You can come alone and feel welcomed! You can come with friends and also have a great time!By the end of the night, I was exhilarated by the experience. The stress of work melted away as the tactile experience of squishing the clay was so relaxing. The way the clay vase slowly shaped itself in your hands was so magical. The ambience of the environment was so calm (there was nice gentle background music). It just such a chill and creative vibe about the place and the people running the classes. At the end of the class, we get to pick a color for our creation and they will paint/fire it. When it is ready, we will be notified and we will get to collect the clay creations we had made. Super cool!Getting here wasn't a problem and there was ample street side parking. Highly recommended. If you have a date night or you just want to de-stress after work, this is a great option. I am definitely thinking of coming back for the full length course and also letting my friends know about this gem in the city.
Janyn Zoccoli: Unhelpful staff, extremely strict rules, lack of community
Stephanie Renwick: I’ve just finished my 2nd 8 week wheel course and am definitely feeling very proud of my finished objects! The classes and teachers are very welcoming and fun, and the community studio has a calm and focused atmosphere. I’m looking forward to continuing to build my skills with workshops and classes.
Tracy: Really cute studio & great instructors! :) I recommend this place to anyone interested in learning more about clay & wheel throwing. I started out knowing nothing, and now I am progressing and making cute items! Great for de-stressing & letting your creative side shine.
Frankie Kelley: Personally, didn’t really feel the ‘community ‘ vibe. Beautiful studio though and great location. My experience wasn’t a positive one and sadly will not be returning.
Bianca Jones: Hi there!I am happy to delete this as soon as I am able to get in to contact with someone. But I have been emailing for months now through your website and a provided email address regarding my order I never received that I placed in December.I would really appreciate if someone could get in contact with me and give me an update of where my order is at or to please provide a refund. My name is Bianca Jones, I have sent another email today to be reached out too.Thank you.
Sonja M.: I just finished a 8 week beginners course at Community Clay and I loved it. The studio is bright and airy, and our instructor Myriam was patient and kind. I love that you can book drop-ins between classes to practice what you have learned.
K Dirie: Contrary to most of these reviews, I didn’t love my time here. I took a couple of 6 week courses. Nicole, Mitra and Jackie were awesome. But the owner doesn’t create the most of welcoming environment, in my personal opinion. It’s a bit cliquey. There’s so many rules and they’re constantly being reiterated in her weekly lengthy emails to members, and I always found the tone of the emails to be chaotic and bit patronizing. I understand the need for rules, it’s just the way they were communicated that I disliked.Despite all these emails, communication was somehow still lacking and things seemed really unorganized and confusing at times, which I found frustrating and so did many of my fellow classmates. Perhaps more clear and concise emails or allowing the instructors to provide some of this information instead, would be more effective. I found that instructors often asked us to double check with the owner about things. The overall vibe just felt like the owner doesn’t have a lot of trust in the members or the instructors.I know the owner wants people to contact her directly to provide feedback but perhaps there’s a reason that people don’t feel comfortable doing that.
Chelsea Ker: After really enjoying my experience doing a one day workshop earlier this year with Myriam, I took an 8 week beginner wheel class with Gabrielle and loved it! Have already started my second class at this studio and am hopeful to keep throwing in the new year. Definitely recommend this studio and its community vibes ♡
Y L: Took my beginner wheel in the summer! Megan was awesome. The studio is so cute and aesthetic filled with plants. Very efficient workspace would definitely recommend starting out here! Only thing is the glazing workshop isn’t included in wheel classes.
Alisa Burton: Community Clay is the place to be for the best experience with pottery. The people are amazing and the studio is perfect. I found I have learned so much from them so quickly.
Sonja Wilson: Fantastic instructors! A perfect studio for beginners and a great space to build skills and work at your own pace and level too.
Clare Appezzato: I can’t say enough good things about Community Clay! I was always interested in taking pottery lessons but felt nervous about taking on something I had never tried before. The space itself is so beautiful and feels like a comfortable, safe space to practise solo or to get more involved in classes. So far, I have taken 2 sets of classes and the improvement over those few months was crazy and so much more than I expected. My instructor, Myriam, was amazing and so good at meeting the students at their own level and pace. She was so great at instructing that I never felt overwhelmed. I now have a membership and am so excited to spend time at the studio every time I’m there! If you’re considering trying out classes but are unsure then I 100% recommend taking the leap and going for it!
Rita Farkas: Community Clay is a really wonderful environment to get creative. The workshops are really helpful, the staff is wonderful. As someone who is not much of an artist, I've been impressed with Myriam's ability to translate basic concepts to a beginner like me who is full of questions, again and again. The studio is well organized and staff are always available to help. Highly recommend!
Cornelia Franzen: Super nice instructors and a lovely space in a central location!
Steph Chan: I’ve been going to Community Clay for a couple of years now and have also wrangled my boyfriend into it (he’s now a drop in supervisor, hosting late night session for night owl potters!). My current course with Mitra has been my favourite so far, though it could also have to do with where I am in my pottery journey; I had an objective that I set for myself this course, and she has been amazing in working along with me and tailoring a structured program for me. The instructors at CC are fastidious in making sure students cultivate proper habits and technique. Mitra is engaging, thoughtful, committed, and inspiring. Her work is meticulously considered and soulful. I’m so glad I decided to sign up for courses again!
Carla Calegari: The studio is super cozy, the team helped me to reschedule a class and it was super thoughful with all my needs. I loved my teacher Raissa, her class was really fun, she answered all my questions and was very attended to our projects to make sure we were in the right path. I really recommend to book at least a class to have an amazing experience. Already planning my next one!
D R: I’ve taken two wheel courses and had great experiences learning from Jackie and Mitra. I am now a member and love coming into the bright, airy studio. I’ve come to really appreciate the focus on cleanliness — the equipment is always in great condition. Gabrielle is attentive and works hard to maintain the studio. I had no prior knowledge of ceramics but coming here is now one of the things I look forward to the most. Highly recommend signing up for a course!

Claymates Ceramics Studio: what do users think?
Josie Piper: Such a wonderful experience. Our instructor Anna was so great - will definitely be going again!
Sandee Nho: I had the pleasure of being taught by Sydney in an intermediate wheel throwing class. She was able to focus on all of the students and give pointers and advice no matter who or what was going on. I highly recommend this class to anyone looking to improve their wheel throwing and to try out different methods of the craft. There's more than enough equipment and the teacher was absolutely wonderful!! I was able to throw my tallest vessel with the most amount of clay I've ever thrown with.
Ewan Kirk: Me and my wife were so happy with our date night pottery class. So much fun. Averee and her team do such an amazing job at creating an inclusive supportive space, I'll definitely go back!
Rocky Banks: Claymates is great! So many amazing glazes and such a nice, calming environment :) very happy to be a member!
Emily Sheppard: This space is so refreshing awesome! Firstly, it’s air conditioned! How civilized. Secondly they have the nicest glazes and slips in the city! Always positivity and laughter in the air. 100 percent recommend this space to everyone.
ANNA Amoroso: The “teacher” didn’t like my positive fun energy. So from the beginning she made me wait until she went through all the “students “ to come to me… meanwhile I was really enjoying myself. And in between her telling my partner that she had never seen someone get so “dirty” within 5 mins before… and my being for being me shamed me for making friends with the other classmates. She Wouldn’t help me. And then I held my hand up to ask if I could get some guidance.. she then asked if she could pull me out for a “talk” cause I was being distracting to the class. Which they were all loving my chats. She just marginalized me and stereotyped me from the beginning as I’ve had done in the past. But have havent experienced it in a long time. Being from east van and living here for 20 years. I feel so attacked and hurt by the way she treated my partner and I (queers)… I was really excited about this new experience and she totally cut me down and made fun of me. I DO NOT recommend spending your money there. Very disappointed. To be honest we were having such a nice time with making our own clay art and bantering with the other people there… until this. Which came as a shock to both me and my partner ( I can’t speak fro others but) from the looks on everyone’s faces them too.My partner and I were so excited to have a date night away from our kids and animals for a couple hrs. I feel shamed and so disappointed by the experience. Once again cannot be “you” in these situations. So sad that this discrimination is still happening.. going back to my to my kids. Never recommending this to anyone. Don’t be funny if you chose to go- which I highly recommend not to. Very strict pottery class.
Rena Lawrence: My friends and I did the Claymatss Date Night - garden creatures themed - and honestly had such a fun and educational experience! We all ended up getting pieces that we loved. Hand building pottery is such a rewarding way to work with clay if you’re new (like we were) but it’s even more rewarding when you have an instructor who really guides you in that process but leaves you enough room for creativity and exploration. I couldn’t recommend the experience enough! The staff were lovely, the space was so equipped (and also very cute), and the *community vibes* were strong! Definitely looking forward to coming back!
Anna Kettler: Great instructors and really well organized and run. Nice environment for creating beautiful things
Nicole Parker: I am so glad I found Claymates when looking for a studio to join in Vancouver! The studio staff are the friendliest, most helpful folks and the vibes in the studio are always positive. The studio is organized, well equipped and veeery cute. I love being a member here.
Eileen Brassington: Claymates was great fun! First time for my daughter & I using a pottery wheel. Our instructor, Hannah, was friendly and encouraging and was run off her feet helping the 7 newbies in attendance. The 2 hour class flew by and we all got to choose one of our items which will be glazed and fired. Finished product available for pick-up in 6 weeks. This would be awesome for a mother/daughter, couples, girls night out or solo activity!
Courtney Galloway: I did private beginner wheel throwing lessons with Claymates which included six 2 hour classes. My teacher was Monica, who was so friendly and a great instructor. As I’m not particularly crafty, before I started the class I was thinking I’d be lucky to end up with one mug good enough to drink out of. In the end thanks to Monica’s expertise and teaching skills, I left with more pieces than I knew what to do with - which made my friends and family very happy. If I were staying in Vancouver, I’d be looking into a membership at the studio, as it’s a great space with really good vibes. Thanks Claymates!
Tanya Reid: After a 10 year hiatus from pottery, I became a member at Claymates studio. Avery runs a really well organized and clean studio. The selection of clays, glazes, tools, etc. are great and allow you to be super creative. The members are super friendly and supportive with people at all different levels. You can always ask a question and get help on a problem. I’ve thrown at a few studios and this is one of the best in Vancouver.
Bambi Edlund: The beginners hand building class with Anna was excellent. She was very welcoming and showed us the basics but then encouraged us to follow our interests when making projects, and was there to answer questions as needed. The space is cozy and comfortable to work in.
Aidan Easson: After finishing a hand build class in this fun and intimate studio I couldn't be more pleased with my experience and time here. The instructor did a fantastic job of demonstrating build techniques in a easy and concise manner which allowed me to have fun with my builds and the process of creation. Easy recommendation for anyone interested in the art of ceramics
Rita Ovis: I’ve been a member of Claymates studio for over a year now I couldn’t be happier with my experience. I’ve also taken multiple classes in which I’ve learned so much and had a blast. The studio is organized, clean and cute. Everyone who attends is awesome and kind, and the glazes and firing process are always so smooth and turn out so good! Highly recommend!
Imogen Tyers: I’ve taken a couple of classes at Claymates & now have the pleasure of being a member. The teachers are welcoming, the space is well equipped and so incredibly organised, however the best aspect is the people. I’ve learnt so much from Averee & other studio members who are always willing to help. I feel so much happier & calmer after a few hours at this studio.
liane carriere: I did an intermediate class and loved it so much I signed up for my membership! Everyone is so kind and helpful. The studio is always clean and very covid conscious! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to try out pottery or refining their skills!
D R Haliburton: Love this space! The studio is tidy and well equipped - it's a very comfortable place to work.
Tessa Leyland: I’ve been a member at Claymates for a few months and absolutely love it! The staff are super friendly and helpful, the studio is fun and clean, it’s really affordable and flexible to my schedule, and has a great community feel :) highly recommend!
Katie Slimmon: Love coming here! It's a very inclusive space for all skill levels. Very organized studio. Vancouver gem!
Melissa Philley: I attended a private event for a bachelorette that was led by Monica. None of us had any experience with throwing so she had her work cut out.The space when we entered was cute and inviting. Monica was open to us hanging a little bit of decor for the event and then we felt really cozy and at home for the rest of the evening.Monica had a sweet, warm, and calming presence which was needed in a room full of newbies. She felt like our cheerleader who was also there to laugh with us when our mistakes got a little out of hand. Her demonstrations and analogies were on point and made us laugh. She had immense patience repeating the same directions and steps to multiple people over and over again. Monica made our experience at Claymates what it was. Because of her I will definitely be recommending the studio to people in the future.

JustPotters: what do users think?
Annie Bradley: I loved the coffee mug slab workshop I did on Sunday! The teacher was super helpful, a welcoming environment and I really felt like I learned a lot in the first class. It’s a great introduction to pottery (especially for someone who is new, and curious to try it out)I would highly recommend this studio. I am looking into doing a 6 week wheel course once I find the time to do so.Thanks so much for such a lovely experience
Emma ya: Amazing staff!
Hannah Martin: Just potters is an amazing space for creative expression! I highly recommend this studio.
Marysa Curtis: Great atmosphere for their beginner wheel pottery workshops!
Maia Engeli: Great experience! It's a cozy basement space where everyone sits around a long table. Emily and Beverly were there to help and give demos. Everyone did really creative projects.
Jessica M: Cancelled their Friday night pottery course via email 10:35PM the night before the class due to 'low enrollment'... with no other solution in place but to try again next time. After explaining that this was booked as a birthday surprise, received a response saying "we need 8 people to run the course" I better be refunded today, you would think that they would close the class two or three days prior if no one else signed up so that they could have a chance to reschedule their plans. Or just take a pay cut for the night, every business has their ups and down evenings. Will not be rebooking.

Lara Marie: I’ve been coming here for 3 years and feel so at home at this studio! When i started the fundamentals 1 workshop, i had no idea how to use a pottery wheel. Now i’m a member and am using my ceramics all over my home and gifting to friends! The owner May Ann has created an incredible and welcoming community that gives you the confidence to keep coming back for more classes, and i’ve always left a class with new friends. If you are new to pottery, this is the perfect place for you!

Georgina Lohan Studio: what do users think?
Zijing Zhao: Such pleasant time! Georgina is super kind and helpful during the lesson.Later she even helped us gaze and fire our pots, we will definitely come back here and take more lessons.
Suzy King: I always love taking classes here. Georgina is a wealth of knowledge and really supportive. The classes are small and the structure is open for you to explore your own ideas. Highly recommend! The pieces she makes and sells are stunning, and have a range of style. Anyone can find a piece they would love to take home or buy as a gift!
Robert Middleton-Hope: Georgina's studio is a place of wonder and exceptional beauty in the work on display there. Super inspiring to get into a clay class. I loved the one on one instruction from someone who is such a pro in they filed. The other people in my class great and we get along so well. Such fun!
kate castelo: Georgina is a master sculptor whose work stands with the top internationally renowned artists of our time. She is a sophisticated artist whose sculptures resonate powerfully on emotional, intellectual and aesthetic levels. She works from a strong technical foundation in ceramics and takes the medium to different heights. Her pieces are sublime, based within a holist Philosophy and placed in fully developed contexts. Her work is organic, sensual and visually stunning.
brigitte potter-mael: Each time I visit Georgina‘s studio I am flabbergasted not only by her enormous output of creativity and production but also by her wealth of knowledge in the materials she works with in her studio. Whether it be the tiniest little bowl which one may hold in ones palm or the life-size richly textured with colourful glazes, each convey this artist‘s mastery in the art of ceramic and porcelain works.Having followed this artist’s work over the past 20 years, I find that her many skills in drawing, paintingand also jewellery making, all culminate in the masterful work she is able to create as a ceramic artist.
Kelsey O'Neill: Working with Georgina is such a pleasure to learn from - she's full of inspiration and has a wealth of knowledge of working with clay.
Ron Murphy: I took several of Georgina’s pottery classes. I didnt want plates but to try some sculpture. She was great with years of knowledge and no judgement i turned out 3 clay sculptures
Tracy Theemes: A gifted artist with evocative, technically superb pieces that speak to both the heart and mind.
Sally Emmerson: I first met Georgina and her work through a friend. An introductory ceramics class. I was immediately smitten! Georgina has HUGE talent and profound skills, both as an artist and also a teacher. Her warmth and enthusiasm are infectious, and I love the time spent in her studio, surrounded by her exquisite work. The small classes have been such fun and very inspiring.

Báhoo Studio: what do users think?
Alison Williams: I'm so glad I found this studio! Welcoming staff, big beautiful space, and an artistic way to unwind from a stupid 9-5. Cannot recommend it enough :)
Hend Assaf: This studio is by far the best in Vancouver in terms of environment, room for creativity, and kind staff! I took a few classes/drop ins here and have enjoyed it every time, the teachers help explain every step of the way and there’s a lot of laughter and smiles all around. Would definitely recommend if you are a beginner into the world of ceramics as it’s a smooth fun transition into it, or even if you do it already- as they have a lot of different levels and even memberships to express your creativity to the fullest!
Shannon W: Bahoo studios level 1 wheel throwing has been the best thing I’ve done for my winter blues in AGES. I loved the class with Wynnie and I’m 100% signing up for more it was so much fun and a beautiful inclusive environment and space. I love the vision they have for their business and being there was like a warm hug and I’m absolutely dying to make more tiny mugs.
Laurie Brown: Went to Bahoo for the date night class. It was so much fun and we learnt a lot. We were a little late but the owner, Wynnie, was super accommodating and helpful. We are looking forward to coming back.
Rebecca Lo: Beware: Rescheduling is a nightmare and not worth the time and effort since you need to give 10 days notice in advance! The owner refuses to reschedule or refund your money if you can't make it.The owner, Wynnie, has shady business practices and doesn't respond in a timely manner. She expects you to give her 10 days in advance and despite this, she should have a final sale notice listed on her website if there are openings after her 10 day cancellation policy. The day after I booked the spots for me and my friends, I contacted her immediately. This was 9 days prior to the start of the workshop, and I was hoping I could reschedule. I wasn't looking for a cancellation or refund at this point. Wynnie, didn't respond until 3 days later and I had to chase after her in order to get an answer. She ultimately refused and asked me to wait for and see if others would take our spots as she believed she would be losing business if she accepted our reschedule. She insisted we show up anyways even though it was impossible at this point. In the end, we were not able to go to her workshop and she ran off with our money. I had to call the bank soon after to file a dispute after the mess Wynnie put us through.Save yourself the hassle, avoid this pottery studio at all costs. This is my final message to Wynnie:For the record, I also work in a creative studio and we would never do this to our clients. It's no wonder your business almost went under.
Marissa Jolin-Dobbin Lim: Amazing studio run by very friendly knowledgable artists
Shanique Kelly: I loved my first round of pottery classes at Bahoo so much that I signed up for a second round! Our instructor, Muggy, is a wonderfully patient and highly skilled teacher. The studio is spacious and yet the vibes are warm. I look forward to class every week!
Chuuyi k: Small business owner with upsetting practices. Had conflicts with our original date but refused to reschedule - We tried to work it out but owner claimed that this was because we had taken away in demand spots that other people wanted, but wasnt able to find any replacement for us more than a week before our scheduled date. As artists we felt this service would have potentially led us to incorporate pottery into our own practices or use her services in the future but this a bad experience and we wouldnt recommend this to anyone we know
Asha Young: 10/10 - Wynnie is funny, helpful and taught me how to make 4/4 plates on my first day. The workshop is a cute space and despite the fact that there was no air conditioning and it happened to be warm in Vancouver today, I enjoyed melting and making new friends and four plates in the process. Would recommend taking classes here!
Erin Baird: I loved my beginner wheel throwing class with Wynnie, who is a wonderful instructor. I learned so much, had a great time, and finished the class with many beautiful pieces. Wynnie also went above and beyond to accommodate a tricky change to my schedule, and made sure that I got everything possible out of the time I had left before an out-of-city move. Highly recommend this studio!
Alice H: Bahoo is a beautiful woman-owned studio that provides beginner to intermediate lessons. Wonderful instructors that have created an inviting, personable and beautiful space. I enjoy how comfortable the setting is and I’ve learned a lot about not only pottery but the principles of impermanence, knowing when to stop (overworking a piece), beauty in imperfection, and starting over!
LYDIA LAI: Ceramics was always something that I was interested in, but I didn't know where to begin. Fast forward to me being 6 months postpartum...I was struggling mentally and emotionally and I thought now would be a good time to look into taking some classes. After researching a whole bunch of studios near me, I decided on Bahoo Studios. BEST DECISION EVER. On a warm sunny day, I walked into the Mt. Pleasant studio and was greeted by Muggy. We learnt all the fundamentals of wedging, centering and pulling. Muggy was there to answer all our questions, and demonstrate different techniques. She's an incredible instructor and super patient with all of us newbies. Our class of 5 loved it SO much, that most of us are coming back for LVL 2.This studio has done WONDERS for my mental health. There is such an amazing sense of community and belonging there. The saddest part is that there is now a 3 week break between classes, and I don't know what to do with myself...I wish there was a way to be able to just go a throw anytime I needed a break lol. I so appreciate what this studio has provided.PS. Cost of clay, tools, glazing and firing are included in the cost of the course. Which some studios do not.
Isabel Nicolas: Love the atmosphere of the studio. Super calming which really helped me focus and learn a lot. I loved the instructions and my teacher was so patient ❤️
Jen Newsted: Patience. Intentionality. Community. JOY!These are the things that Bahoo Studio has gifted me.Standing at another cross roads in life I had been noodling what I could do to learn something new, that would be enjoyable, challenge me in new ways and provide an opportunity to practice patience.Six months ago, on a rainy day, while on my daily dose of fresh air and movement, I found myself standing in front of a new ceramics studio in the hood. There was no hesitation, I knew the solution to my noodling had been made clear, and as soon as I googled Bahoo and read that their values were community based I knew that this was the place for me.The team at Bahoo is led by a very rad human, Wynnie, who could not have been more supportive of my learning. She cheered me on the day I brought a post it note cheat sheet to help me move through what I like to call the cone zone! She answered every single one of my analytical questions about techniques she was teaching us, to the point where my class pals referred to it as analytic ceramics with Jen!Because here's the thing I learned about myself in ceramics class, I had questions. As a learner I wanted to know what the heck was going on so that I could ensure I wasn't just taking a workshop to make something. I was there to learn and understand. And this is another spot that my values and Bahoo's were intersecting because Wynnie's teaching approach is very clearly about leaving expectations at the door so that we can focus intentionally on learning the techniques.I also got to learn from Muggy, another very rad human, who had a different perspective in how she taught. At first I was caught off guard by this change as a learner because there is a lot to learn and I was finding I was being very stiff in how I was willing to be taught. Calling myself in I reminded myself that this was another gift to consider other perspectives in my learning as I continued to build on my foundational skill set and relationship with clay. Big love to Muggy for helping me move beyond my close minded learner attitude!I've just wrapped season 4 aka beginners level 3 at Bahoo and have been learning alongside the same group of humans since November! How wicked that my path to Bahoo ensured I would connect with rad folks who would become my supportive ceramics pals, and that we'd keep saying yes to continuing our learning together! From the cone zone, to the basics of making a cylinder, to the very intimate relationship your entire body has with the clay, and through the glazing process, I've laughed, I've cried, I've been frustrated and I've been wildly proud of myself in all I have learned!I couldn't have grown the way I have over the last six months, not just in my ceramics ability, but also as a human, without the support the Bahoo team gifted me. They helped me reconnect with my long lost JOY!Fierce love for Bahoo studio!PS. Season 5 I'm coming for you! (which is probs gonna be level 3 repeated :P)
A W: Professional, kind and attentive management!Greatest teacher I’ve had since Ms Parker in 3rd grade.. We made so many things! Must try date-night!
Crystal Wong: TL;DR: Stay away, poor experience ahead. I started beginner classes with Muggy in March. Muggy was a poor instructor and unprofessional. She would show us 10-15 steps once, leave us, and then putter around the studio, be on her laptop, and complain about her personal life. There was little monitoring of student progress or providing support while we were trying to figure things out. At one point, when a student asked for help, Muggy pointed her to a piece of paper without saying anything. After the second class, having had very little in-person instruction and being repeatedly told to watch pottery videos on YouTube, I asked for a refund. To the owner’s credit, Wynnie attempted to turn this experience around and offered to switch me to her own classes. In good faith, I agreed to start classes with Wynnie in April. Before the April classes started, I received an email letting me know that the class was not going ahead due to lack of students. I agreed to get bumped to the May classes. I checked my email before the first May class, and having not received any communication, assumed it was going ahead. I paid for parking, arrive and Muggy was there. Muggy explained the class was starting a week later because Wynnie was sick. Muggy verified they had missed me in the email letting the class know, despite the class size being 7 people max. My goodwill was exhausted, I asked for a refund and Muggy asked me to send them an email. When I received an email back from Wynnie, instead of apologizing for the inconvenience, not letting me know classes were pushed back a week, the series of unfortunate events with Bahoo, or anything at all, I receive an, “It’s so unfortunate you feel this way.” She proceeded to process a refund, minus the two classes I had taken with Muggy initially. I would have left this alone had I gotten a full refund, but seeing I have been charged for this abysmal experience, I thought it prudent to share.
Haluka Yagi: I'm in the process of taking my third workshop, but I couldn't be any happier with my experience learning at Bahoo! I've taken Levels 1-3 with Wynnie, and she's taught me the importance of mastering the fundamentals of wheel throwing, which has become more and more prominent in the work I create. I love how I'm always learning something new every class, whether it's a new technique, unique shapes, or tips and tricks. The class sizes are nice and intimate, with max 7 students, and the instructors are all so kind, fun, and patient. I would 10000% recommend Bahoo to anyone interested in starting their ceramics journey! (There's also a lot of free parking nearby for those who drive)
Ashley Sherlow: love love love learning here. the teachers are skilled, patient and funnnnn. i’ve taken 3 workshops so far and have plans to continue. thanks bahoo and wynnie!
Fiona Tosetti: Love love love the welcoming, artistic, intimate vibe to this space. The teachers make you feel like a pro. Perfect spot for a date, with a friend, or on your own!
Spencyre Hackett-Martin: Recently joined Bahoo in the beginner wheel throwing course and I’m obsessed! The community vibe and atmosphere is great. I love the small class size and 1:1 support. Open studio hours are great. Can’t wait to do more courses!
Meesh: Sweet space, and now...bigger! Wynnie is an awesome teacher who makes pottery very understandable and easy to grasp. There are Open Studio hours too :)

Jessica Nelson: Loved the environment and selection of things to paint
lily scheifele: Had a really amazing time, lots of color choices and TONS of different items to choose to paint, Owner is very very nice and was super helpful with any questions I had. Defiantly coming back
Anh Huynh (Amie): Nice and friendly owner

John was so wonderful and accommodating right from the start, and our time at the shop was so much fun. John is so helpful and friendly, and made my daughter and friends feel comfortable and welcome. It was such a fun party venue, and the prices are extremely reasonable. We can’t wait to see how our projects turn out! We’ll definitely be back! Thanks John for making her birthday so special!
Adam Woodhouse: Pretty great experience - only removing - star because they charge if you can’t pick your painted ceramic good up on time. That seemed a bit excessive.
Guess G: Exactly what you would expect, owner is so so lovely! Very accommodating and reasonable prices if you know anything about ceramics. Only thing I wish was different was the variety of items to paint, I with there were more than what they had. Lots of plates and bowls and cups Wich would be nice but figurines and other objects are lacking. We painted outside on a sunny day and it was magical
Alex R: Such a cozy place to paint pottery! The owner working there is very friendly and helpful at all times. He’s always making jokes and giving out tips. Plus, our painted plates were ready to pick up in just 3 days so they’re very quick too.I went here with my boyfriend for Valentines and we had loads of fun. I’ve been recommending this place to everyone. I’m already thinking of bringing my family here next time they visit! Can’t wait to come back soon!
uhhh pardon?: I had a rlly great experience w this pottery painting studio!! The best part was John being so awesome and approachable. Some ppl may think it’s the bare minimum but nonetheless, i rlly enjoyed painting my mug there :)))
Stephanie Hsu: My friends and I came here spontaneously. It was super packed, but John managed to squeeze us in at the back table. He is super friendly and clearly passionate about art. There were many beautiful pieces to choose from! Overall, it was such a fun and reasonably priced experience. I highly recommend coming here!

Chris S: This place is truly something special. The experience my girlfriend and I had from start to finish exceeded my expectations. The owner, John, welcomed us in to paint ceramics. We were fortunate enough to have walked-in without an appointment on a not-so-busy day. John was very accommodating and such a gentleman with us. We had travelled far to visit his studio and it was great all around. I recommend you come to his studio and meet this great man.Thank you, John, for the experience. We are sure to return!
Julie Vu: John is super super nice and welcoming. There is lots of pieces to choose from and paint. There was pikachu, squirtle, baby yoda, hello kitty, totoro, Spider-Man, plates, bowls, cups, etc! Most pieces were around $20. There’s also lots of different paint colours and you can paint inside the shop or in the backyard which is nice. Great activity to do with friends/family and kids
lynn: Such a sweet and nice man. Very accommodating and lots of pieces to choose from. My friend and I had a super fun time here!

Kingsmill Studio Pottery: what do users think?
Nicole Leonard: Absolutely adore the souvenir cats that we bought here! THANK YOU!
Shelley T.: I purchased a beautiful sweet space cat mug here and was so amazed at the quality and surprisingly low price associated with a handmade object. With this store hosting a collection of artists, it seems like there’s something for everyone. Every single artist had a piece I thought was beautiful.
Mary Anne Kingsmill: Excellent!! Six first class ceramic artists work here and display their work. All individual and exhibition quality!
Michael Paterson: I bought 4 ceramic cats as a birthday gift for my Mum and she loved them.
V: Beautiful pottery, such a big selection of unique products ranging from mugs to wall art. I was in here for about 15 or 20 minutes. If I could, I would've spent more time browsing. I bought a cat pottery pot by Tessa Reid. I absolutely love it!Support local, handmade is always best! I would love to come back here sometime.
Violet: We went back to Granville Island on our last day in Vancouver specifically for this store because my daughter wanted to buy the cup she saw when we first went to Granville Island 4 days earlier. The cup she liked was still there and was told another customer was eyeing it the day before. My daughter was so happy to have it. The owner was very friendly and her items are original artworks. Cute gift shop.
D Facchin: Some of there things are really quirky, and a few are attractive and serviceable.
Maryam Fallahpour: I'm a ceramiest from IranAnd I'm going to go vancouver next summerI hope I work for you
