Providence Health Care will soon launch BC’s first Care Coordination Centre, a hospital version of air traffic control.

It’s powerful, smart technology, and more. Staff will use it to get site-wide insights of beds, capacity, bottlenecks, inpatient status and what needs attention – in real time and 24/7.

This digital transformation of patient care is supported by a $5 million gift from the Mr. and Mrs. P.A. Woodward’s Foundation.

Providence has partnered with GE HealthCare, a leading health-care technology company and digital solutions innovator, to implement the Care Coordination Centre for St. Paul’s Hospital, Mount Saint Joseph Hospital, Holy Family Hospital and eventually at the new St. Paul’s Hospital when it opens in 2027.

The provincial government has announced that people struggling with mental health and addiction will have access to more treatment and recovery beds, along with community-based aftercare services, through budget 2023 investments.

The investment includes 95 new beds as part of the Road to Recovery program at St. Paul’s Hospital. Of those, 45 beds will be located at St. Paul’s Hospital and the remaining 50 beds will be implemented by Providence in the Vancouver area.

Emergency nurses are on the literal front lines of patient care. They tend for people coming through the hospital doors when they may be at their lowest. Emergency nurses at Providence Health Care often receive extra training in areas such as triage, trauma and geriatrics in addition to their emergency nurse training. On September 20, 2022, the IFHE 2022 Global Healthcare Energy Award was recently presented to Providence Health Care, St. Vincent’s: Brock Fahrni for achieving the largest health care facility energy reduction in Canada!​

In 2020, under the direction of Tony Munster, Executive Director, Projects, Planning & Facilities Management, a decision was made to implement a cooling system at St. Vincent’s: Brock Fahrni.

The goal of this new system? To improve resident comfort and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at PHC.

“Providing effective security services is more than just protecting people and property,” says Jonathan Acorn, Operations Director with Lower Mainland Integrated Protection Services (IPS). “We’re helping those who need it however we can.”
