Cathy Fitzhugh: We made plans to come here to celebrate Mother's Day early, as well as celebrate a birthday, and I was really disappointed in the bottomless brunch, which is too bad, because we've had a wonderful experiences there before.No one asked all the food was, my toast was burnt on two occasions, I had to ask for water, repeatedly.... and I was missing cutlery more than once.The service was slow, and the staff was in attentive. when people brought food to the table, they had no idea where it was going or who had ordered it.We also had to wait long time to receive things. At one point I was waiting for a biscuit for over 20 minutes (after asking two different people,) and when I finally asked someone again, I saw that the biscuits were just sitting in a heated basket right behind us.No one apologized, not even once! In fact, after the biscuit incident, I think our server purposely avoided making eye contact.It was pretty odd.Don't recommend.

Vasisht Raghavendra: The best experience in all of our trip to Vancouver. The restaurant and the hotel both are excellent and the service is top notch. As part of Amex we had a deal for the restaurant and the hotel. Breakfast was covered as part of Amex. We had 5 meals at this restaurant and it was the best all the time. For breakfast our favorite was Benny with Spinach and caramelized onions. The hollandaise sauce is out of the world. We also had Pancakes and Avocado toast. We paired it with a latte onee time and cappuccino another time and a smoothie both times.For dinner our favorite was Butternut squash soup. We also tried the Sablefish, Cobb salad, Veggie burger, Lentils and Chicken wings. All the items were delicious and sufficient quantity.Update: Came back here after a year and a half and the food was better the last time around.

xx PreppyinPink: The worst restaurant we visited in Vancouver.It started pretty good. We walked up to the host and were immediately seated. Then we waited 20 minutes to be greeted by the waitress. Another 10 minutes for our drink delivery any then the waitress was back to take our order….so 45 minutes in we placed our order. It then took 40 minutes to get the first course a salad then another 60 minutes for the entree. We never saw the waitress again. We flagged down a busboy for water and tea while we were waiting and after 10 minutes waiting for someone to come back to check on us to take our plates or offer dessert we gave up and walked up to to host, requested the bill and left.The salad was excellent. The duck was dry. A huge disappointment all around.

We were served by Lynn, who was attentive, kind and helpful with wine recommendations.The bread was warm, the butter was soft, and we were brought little fried cauliflower amuse-bouche from the chef to start us off.While we waited on the wine, we had some cocktails: a clover club for me (perfectly balanced; I find them usually too sweet), and a moscow mule for my husband.The tuna tartare was mouth watering; both sweet and salty, with nice big pieces of fish and avocado. We couldn’t get enough of it!For the main course, I had the ravioli with scallops in beurre blanc, and don’t think I could ever order anything else off the menu going forward. It was to die for! Make sure you hold on to a slice or two of bread to sop up all that delicious sauce.My partner had the seafood spaghetti, and while the dish was over-salted, it was cooked to perfection and was delicious nonetheless.We were seated within earshot of the pianist, which was so enjoyable all evening, and he played happy birthday for me while Lynn surprised me with a little dessert to celebrate! Such a lovely touch. I can’t say enough about this restaurant and the experience, and can’t wait to come back

Michael Purdue: I was dining alone, yet I felt very taken care of--nit a second class citizen at all. E service was fantastic and the did delicious. The oysters were very good and shucked well. The Italian Greens exceeded my expectations. I also had the herb--crusted halibut special. Th portion was just right. The crust was crispy and flavorful, but not overwhelming, and it did not dry out the rest of the fish. It was moist and silky. The accompanying vegetables were also prepared quite well and I was able to enjoy the individual taste of each. I cannot remember the last time I had such wonderful zucchini. It was cooked perfectly and tasted delightful, as did the carrots. Highly recommend trying Bacchus.

Nicholas Quintillan: Certainly a terrific experience. I’ve known the lead bartender my whole life. He recently won some well-deserved accolades and he truly is the best bartender in Canada and even perhaps the world. A strong statement for sure, however, his cocktails are creative, unique, balanced, and ridiculously flavourful. The service was outstanding and the food was unbelievably great. If you want an “out-of-this-world” experience, come have some drinks and food at Botanist. Highly, highly recommended! It was the best Burrata and Duck I’ve ever had.

The food was fantastic and I don't know which dish I liked more because it was honestly all good. My wife ordered the hand-cut beef tartare, butter poached lobster benedict, and the milk chocolate coffee mousse. We also got the antioxidant juice, orange juice, and blue moon non-alcoholic cocktail which paired very nicely with our food. Overall great experience with a very friendly, courteous, and professional staff. Even the washrooms were gorgeous.

Eggs Benedict had the right amount of hollandaise and the lobster bumped it to that next level. Dessert met our expectations and were balanced without being too overwhelmingly sweet. Great way to finish off our meal.$71 for the three course which me and my partner had. Was surprisingly filled by the end of it.

Kimberly Stephenson: A week after dining here, I'm still trying to wrap my head around how amazing this place was! The drinks, food, atmosphere-- EVERYTHING exceeded expectations. Even the journey to the bathroom was pleasantly surprising; I found myself lingering at the hallway photography exhibits, and feasting my eyes on the bustling lounge below. There was also a live pianist, whose effervescent fingers doled out jazzy covers to pop songs like something out of a 40's noir film. The lighting was perfect (not too bright, not too dim). It's impossible to say the service was inattentive-- they anticipated every refill, every wanton desire for more oatmeal sourdough bread (which was scrumptious). The other culinary standouts were the lamb shanks/belly (which now rivals bacon for me, lol!) and the sour-cream ice cream for dessert. Be prepared to crave another visit! 😝

This is the most expensive steak on the menu around $36 per ounce and I got 10 ounces due to them not having the 6 ounce.When arrived to the table this was not cooked correctly and was rested for too long causing the steak to become cold and rigid in the flavour. I complained and they mentioned they can do another one however I said its okay as I expected better from the restaurant. Its a shame due to the reputation of this place however it goes to show quality is not always monitored. Especially when spending $760 for 2 steaks.As for the service the waiter was not aware how to leave the customers to eat. I realised he was trying to be nice however there was not social awareness on how to handle an audience. We would be in a middle of a conversation and 4x the server came over to tell us about something or how the steak will be cooked and why even though we did not care. A better approach would have been to ask if we would like to know and not force knowledge onto customers that don't really care or perhaps already have knowledge on steaks.The sides were nice however overpriced again.Average restaurant more expensive due to the area I believe and was disappointing altogether unfortunately.

Florence Wong: From the first step into the bistro to the last bite of our entrees I was wowed by the ambiance, service and most importantly the taste of food.This is a casual French bistro that is part of the Loden boutique hotel. The restaurant is divided into the lounge area and the dining room. The lounge was lively and buzzling, while the dining room was quiet and intimate. My friend and I were seated in the dining room.We were greeted by the nicest server with French accent, which actually puts us in the right mood for French cuisine. He started us off with couple fruit liqueurs to stimulate our palette. He then introduced the menu and answered our questions in the menu thoroughly.We ordered couple appetizers and couple entrees to share. We were most surprised by the sweetbread appetizer, which was delicious. The steak tartare was fresh and the crispy potato stacks 😘. I would've liked the tartare a bit more moist and fatty though.Our entrees Coq Au Vin and Bistro Fillet (beef) were also delicious and flavorful. The portions were just right and we were too full to try any desserts.I am definitely coming back for a date night! Thanks for the enjoyable experience.

Donna So: Came here for the heated patio on a gloomy day. Brunch here is so lovely and the staff is so attentive and friendly. We ordered a bunch of things like the croque madame, smoke salmon, crepes and beef tartare. Can’t go wrong with any of these. They make the crepes in front of you and you get a nice char from the flambé.We liked that it was close to the water so we could take a stroll after brunch. It’s on a smaller street so it’s not noisy. There’s plenty of parking space on the streets. Would highly recommend coming here.

Andrea Lo: Impossible for larger parties.We’ve been here several times before and the food is great but it’s been impossible to book for a party larger than 5.Tables larger than 5 cannot make a reservation online so we had to call the restaurant and leave a voicemail for them to call us back. We had to leave two separate voicemails before they call us back. When they finally called back, they took down our name, phone number and email for the reservation but when we arrived on the day of the reservation, they didn’t have us down in the system at all.The 8 of us were looking forward very much to a nice birthday celebration and very disappointed the night of.

Brian T.: Wow, we were visiting from San Francisco and were blown away by the food here. Went for happy hour and the food and Cremant were fantastic. We ordered 1) oysters which were fresh and sweet 2) the mushroom toast which were so deep, complex, and rich - YUMMY! 3) the Caesar salad which were perfectly balanced and crisp 4) the geoduck parfait which was Smoky and refreshing. What a treat! And the service were fantastic as well. We cannot wait to come back when we’re in Vancouver. Merci!

Shawn Joseph: It's absolutely perfect for the time you don't mind splashing a bit extra $$$!The food was to die for. You have to get the burrata salad to start off with. The mains are up to you. However, for the dessert, I still dream about that vietnamese coffee creme brulee. It was the definition of heaven.Finally, the servers were awesome and fun to talk to. They treated you like they were your pals.

Jiajyun Wang: This restaurant is perfect for a romantic date. We were lucky to sit in the courtyard on the second floor, just like having a date in a beautiful garden. As for the food, we ordered shrimp and fried cauliflower salad for appetizers, and they were both stunning. The flavors were rich and delightful. The servers were knowledgeable about the menu and offered insightful suggestions.However, there was a moment when I informed the waiter of a small hair on the ramen egg of the Ahi Tuna Salad (I think you can see it on the picture). Since I have already split the salad with my family members, I wasn't expecting anything other than a follow up. The waiter said "let me check with the kitchen", took away the egg, and never came back with an apology or any follow up.The menu at Brix and Mortar offers a diverse range of dishes, showcasing the creativity and skill of the culinary team. We ordered the Ahi Tuna Salad, Burrata Di Puglia, Wild Sockeye Salmon, Lamb Neck, and Steak. The flavors were generally well-balanced, and the presentation was visually appealing. All the dishes were exceptional aside from the Steak, which was satisfactory, but not outstanding. The cocktails we ordered (Stregarita, Sakura Blossom, and Basil Exposition) were delicious as well.Overall, Brix and Mortar is a restaurant that offers a memorable dining experience with its refined ambiance, attentive service, and creative menu. And the desserts are both really good too. The service was very attentive and good as well. She was very personal and answered any questions without hesitation. Preppy Gourmet: Easily the best steak dinner we’ve had in Canada! We chose the 32 oz bone in rib-eye. It was amazing. Delicate and tender. The sides were merely superfluous accoutrements next to the melt in your mouth beef ribeye.Simply amazing.We took other diners suggestions and sat in the dining room. As we were finishing our entree we introduced ourselves to the couple next to us. They were so friendly and although they were locals they were taking the same trip we were over the weekend. They gave us some great restaurant tips for our trip to Vancouver Island.So if your visiting a new place don’t be afraid to introduce yourself because you never know what can happen.

Ronald Riedi: From the second you walk into the foyer you realize Gotham is exactly what you would expect. High vaulted ceilings and beautiful dark wooded lounge area. They did have a lovely outdoor patio area but we opted for the lounge area. Very happy we did.Firstly, Gilbert, our server and bartender, was personable and knowledgeable. Great attention to detail. Excellent old fashion and perfect Italian wine.We started with PEI oysters, perfectly shucked and fresh. Spare rib sliders with fontana and brioche rolls, melted in our mouths. Ended with bourbon chocolate cake and espresso martinis. What an ending.Go here when in downtown Vancouver.

D K: My wife and I went here for her 36th birthday. I had no idea what to expect. It was absolutely above and beyond. The steak I got was a 32 oz steak. It's what expected and more. Plate with a slab of meat. My wife loves her meal and the service was fantastic, it's definitely a place we will be revisiting again. You can expect a hefty bill, but I mean what isn't expensive these days.Thank you to the staff and the cooks!

尹涵: 服务很好,可以给满分的好。环境有点拥挤。一共三个前菜两个主食,唯一觉得好吃的是主菜的鹌鹑,富有风味且调味合适。但是真没有小红书上吹的那么天花乱坠,餐前面包三种都很普通,大部份菜都齁咸,味道无功无过很一般,两个人点了250没吃饱,主要菜单东西太少了,想多吃点也没有选择空间,有点sad.前菜份量超级迷你,贴心的搭配了很多面包让您品尝。前菜的鹅肝真的像是法国超市里包装好的鹅肝,不好吃咸得不行,并没有抹黑这家店的意思哈,另外同行的伙伴没办法接受主食半生的猪排,肉只有外表一层熟,里头甚至一点熟肉的纤维都没有。牛排可以吃三分熟但是猪排真不太敢,难道老外都这样吃吗。朋友说猪排闻起来一股很怪的味道。但是好在餐厅处理方式很到位,也会问吃的满不满意,然后按朋友喜好帮他做全熟了。谢谢我觉得都是可以改进的,除此之外鹌鹑真的特别推荐,可惜要off menu了

Each remove had its own person who explained the creations.The cocktails were a sensory experience themselves, but the wine pairings with dinner were worthwhile. I appreciated the primarily local ingredients and vineyards.The only thing that detracted from the experience was being out by the windows was a little cool for the dress I wore; a light shawl or long sleeves would have been ideal. The space with all the glass and courtyard was still enjoyable.

Anja Ivica: Went here for a friend's birthday last night - two of us explained to the server that we have dairy sensitivities and were explicitly told by the server that only 1 appetizer and 1 main were available for us to choose from. The server was extremely condescending and rude and said "This isn't really a place that does 'dairy-free'"I explained several times that we were okay with food cooked in butter, but could not eat large amounts of dairy or dishes that have lots of cheese, cream, etc. but she continued to basically berate me about how things are cooked at the restaurant - considering this is a "fine dining" establishment, I'm confused at how it's so difficult to swap out butter for oil or simply serve a dish without cheese. This wouldn't have even be an issue, if the server's attitude had been friendly. Instead, every time she came to our table, she made a point of saying there's basically nothing for me to eat here, and in such a judgmental tone that was dismissive and rude, implying that I shouldn't have even come to eat at the restaurant.For a bill that totaled over $90 per person, while the food was good, the service was atrocious, and I've never been made to feel more uncomfortable at a restaurant in my entire life.Dietary restrictions: Dairy sensitivity - do not accommodate at this establishment

Was a very uncomfortable situation having someone act like security watching us eat. I ordered sable dish which was terrible, took a bite and gave it back. Elegant, delicious with great wine options. This is a place you go for a very special occasion. The octopus dish was probably the best octopus dish I've had ever. Also highly recommend the chef special absolutely great setting with 9 dishes to try. The staff are so kind and helpful. Andrew the sommelier had an insane knowledge of practically every item on wine list and great to talk to. Overall excellent experience

Claire Blair: Dinner here was great, as always. Amazing food, service and ambience. Was expecting to have steak frites but when that wasn’t on the menu we ordered the bison carpaccio and it was sooo good. The Congolese mussels and broth are so delicious and I’m always surprised how many are in there! Very filling. They have such a great liquor menu too, including hard-to-find Belgian Trappist beers, and Fortaleza tequila. Fun to sit at the bar and converse with the friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Aimee & Jenna Hobbs: We were in Vancouver this past weekend and went to Chambar Saturday evening for dinner. Our server Dylan was just lovely. She was knowledgeable about the menu and able to help our thirteen year old who is celiac navigate each of the dishes that could be made gluten free. Several people at our table had mussels conglaise and really enjoyed them. My niece and I had the lamb which was delicious and my son had the steak and ate every single bite. We will definitely be going again! Thank you Dylan!
