Simply Sailing: what do users think?
Samantha Lingren: Did the four day intensive basic sailing. Right balance of study and hands on learning despite how much you had to learn. Very knowledgeable instructor with experience to go with instruction. Lots of time on a boat!
Jerris Spetifore: An excellent place to really try out sailing. I’d never been on a sailboat, but took the five day live-aboard and it was worth it. I learned a lot, the locations are beautiful, the experiences are real, and the ingredients provided for all meals and snacks are top notch. We had porpoises follow us along for a little bit, sea lions for another and the eagles were everywhere. I’ll make sure to use them for my next training!
Alex Vaskova: We knew absolutely nothing about sailing before we took Simply Sailing Basic Course. We spend 3 days on water with Janush and Doug, one two evenings with Marnie at class. Now I feel confident to be valuable crew member on boat and I’m excited to learn more! Thank you
Michael Darragh: Had a great experience Sailing in my Intermediate 5 day live a board class. Stephen provided excellent insight and informative instructions and boosted both my confidence and my knowledge. Also thanks Ian for your wonderful cooking!
Dave Nolte: Had a blast and learned a lot about sailing from the Basic Cruiser 4 day course. We were on the water way more than expected in a hands on learning environment. Excited to do my intermediate course here soon!
Carly Lawrie: I took their ROC(M) course last December and am still waiting for the results if I passed or not. I have sent after multiple emails and they do not respond. Would not recommend doing business with them !!
John Keating: Had a great time taking the Basic Cruise course even in the cold weather. Wanted to get prepared in advance for our spring and summer sailing. After my experience sailing in New Zealand 50 years ago, I was eager to get back on the water. I highly recommend regardless of age to maker the move to Simply Sailing.
Derek Schick: Did the 4 day intensive basic cruising. Jason was a great instructor, calm and confident and paced the course well for each student to get what they needed.
Subhash Bhushan: I just finished a 4-day intensive basic cruising course with Mike Laanela and Stephen DesRoches, and it was a great experience.Stephen was very knowledgeable, kind, encouraging, and hilarious! His mental mnemonics and stories from his extensive sailing past help you remember the important stuff quickly. His varied interests kept our conversations lively and entertaining while stressing the dangers of being on the water and tips for handling difficult situations. The impromptu race against Orpheus was the highlight of the course for me. It was great to see the camaraderie shared between Simply sailing instructors. My deepest thanks for a great initiation into my sailing journey! I look forward to going back for more courses with Simply Sailing.
Stephane Dresler: I just finished the 5 days live-aboard course for the Basic Cruising Standard with Simply Sailing. I had a great time. Despite an inconsistent wind, we were able to learn a lot. The instructor, Stephen Desroches, is very knowledgeable and he has a great personality. I am planning to take more courses with SS to hone my skills.
Trevor messent: Practical and informative, had one on one real sailing time with Mike the instructor ,good day out for sailing and docking experience. Learned some important points and gained some new, will comeback for more sailing tuition soon.
Colin Purcell: Fantastic course, instructor was awesome knew his stuff and was able to adjust his teaching to fit all of us. Great boat to learn on and food was awesome. (Ilan is a great chief 👍) Marnie was great to deal with, on some scheduling changes.Highly recommend!
Sarah Sage: Just finished a 5 day live aboard basic cruising course with Simply Sailing. Mike was our instructor. This was such a positive experience, wonderful opportunity to live aboard and experience a multi day cruise, staying on several islands in spectacular Howe Sound. Mike was a fantastic instructor, very calm, positive, creative, experienced and informed. he took his time with all crew members and gave us many opportunities to practice our skills. I look forward to learning more from Simply Sailing.
Nigel Allan: Did the Basic Crew certification. Was a great five days out. Very new to sailing and learned a lot. Our instructor Mike Laanela was great. Very positive and patient. Hoping to return for another course soon.
Paul Watson: If, like me, you know the basics of keel boat sailing but want to sharpen your skills so you act instinctively, without pausing to think first, Stephen DesRoches is the instructor you need. He has high standards and pushes you hard to meet them. I was exhausted at the end the five-day Intermediate course, but I’m a better sailor for it. Stephen has a seemingly endless mental library of real-life stories to stress why things have to be done right. They seared important lessons into my memory. At the end of each long day aboard the beautiful yacht Persephone, conversations on deck were entertaining and relaxing and we grew as a team. Simply Sailing’s provisioning was superb, so every meal was delicious. Eighteen knot winds added to the thrill. Now, when I’m on the water, watching and listening for the wind, Stephen’s voice will be in my head, reminding me that any number of hazards lurk beneath the waves, and that good seamanship matters. Deepest thanks for a life-changing trip!
A V: Just finished a 4 day intensive basic crew/cruising course with Jason. He is an awesome teacher. I started without knowing anything about sailing and by the end of the 4 days felt confident docking, anchoring, doing crew overboard drills, tying knots and naming/understanding many components of a sailboat. I strongly recommend reading the book before because the sessions are tiring. Jason uses every opportunity as a teaching moment, I was amazed at how easily I was able to pick up information and skills under his direction. He is a very talented teacher and if you have the opportunity to learn from him it is an incredibly rewarding experience.
Emma Tranminh: Did the 4 day intensive course. Had a great time, learned lots and will likely be back for more evening sails and maybe even the intermediate course later on. We had Marnie as an instructor and really enjoyed her. Course is not easy, definitely read the prep material. Would recommend.
Rae Kamstra: We just finished the Basic 5-day live aboard course in beautiful Howe sound and it was fabulous. Definitely need to read your course book, watch some of the videos and practice a few knots ahead of time to get the most from this course. The days were full of learning - both practical sailing drills as well as some study sessions to help us prepare for the test. Mike was an excellent instructor - very patient and he inspired a lot of confidence in his ability to teach us what we needed to know with his extensive sailing experience. Definitely recommend this course!
Edi Sirotic: My wife and I took a couple of courses with Simply Sailing, the most recent one being VHF Radio course. We thoroughly enjoyed the course and learned a lot. Marnie as our instructor delivered the content in interesting and competent way, so we now feel confident in applying the knowledge learned. We have already signed up for intermediate cruising course and recommend Simply Sailing to anyone looking to learn practical sailing skills and be safe on the water.
Jp Mccarthy: Marnie Brag was an incredible instructor. She is relatable, knowledgeable and fun. Her experience is complemented by her skill and passion for sailing. We had a great balance of fun and intensity. I highly recommend simply sailing.
Josef Loew: I have intermediate sailing courses from 30 years ago as well as a fair amount of boating experience and needed to get an ICC for boating in Europe. The course was more useful than I could have imagined. Simply Sailing put me thru 2 full days of sailing and I was lucky to have heavy weather and seas as well. I found the sailing days very useful. Repeated practice of maneuvers, heavy weather sailing, heaving to, man-over -boards, extensive docking in a variety of situations, discussion of recommended reactions in a variety of scenarios. Even the knots practice was very useful for learning the proper procedures and uses of knots I tied many times before. The standardization of commands was very useful and I’ll use it with crew going forward. Will avoid much potential confusion. It was great having my wife along for the sailing practice. We are better and more confident sailors now and have a clear sailing command dialogue between us.

MacSailing: what do users think?
Jordan Ross: I have rented from here before and had an overall good experience. However it's disappointing that they have greatly restricted the availability of their rentals to the public and now only rent to MacSailing "graduates" and what makes this worse is they say it's because of "covid" which honestly makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
peter J: great staff, very easy to rent a boat for a couple hours
Miguel Moreira: Was treated very badly, at end of training week, we been told we all passed, next day I contacted them and they came back that I did not pass the course. Also before I paid for the course online, I called and asked what size is the class. They told me, it’s always 14, but on the last day of our training they booked in 22 people. This added more stress on the training and added to lots of traffic. When I was out in the water, I needed to talk to an instructor but she was way to busy on her cell phone that she did not hear me at all. Even though my voice is very load and can be heard over a fog horn for sure. They said to me it’s very common for them to increase the number of people on the course, but yet they say and book for only 14 per course, they are not transparent with this fact. When I complained about this and wanted a refund because I don’t trust them now, they said No. i honestly see it (upping the numbers of students on the last day (evaluation day) as a breach of contract. Because they are not transparent.
Misket: I took CanSail 1 here and it was a lot of fun! Kyle and all the other instructors were very lovely and helpful
Janine McNeilly: I completed the CANSail 1 and CANSail 2 courses here this summer. All of my instructors were knowledgeable and patient, and they made sure the entire group was enjoying their time on the water. My CANSail 1 instructors even allowed our group to sail the Lasers and 420s, which was a nice surprise! You also can't beat the location; it was so beautiful to sail around the inlet on a sunny day! Thanks again to Mac Sailing and my instructors for two really fun courses!
Lei GUO: Nice communication even at weekends. Help switch upcoming programs at last minute once new spots are open. So appreciated.
eady08: We took sailing lessons here over two weekends. Really enjoyed our time and all the staff were nice, however, multiple instructor changes during the first weekend made the lessons so challenging for the group - we missed pieces of information and made little progress. The second weekend, however, we were introduced to a new instructor called Mike who is just made for his job - patient, relaxed, attentive and great at simplifying more complicated topics for beginners. We all had a great time and felt much more confident by the end of the second week :) thanks Mac Sailing!
Amy Watkins: I had a great experience in a recent CANsail 1 course. The instructors (Colin and Carissa) were very skilled and experienced. I’m looking forward to putting my new skills to use this summer. My only negative experience was a rude instructor/helper on the last day. She was quite rude, several times, and it didn’t fit with the overall tone. One rude person can ruin an overall wonderful customer experience, so I suggest fixing that.Overall, I highly recommend.
Random Fire: The instructors were quite amateurish, doing nothing but watching and driving away as multiple kids had to paddle away under the sun for hours, leading them far away from the base camp then leaving them there for an hour or so. Doing nothing to help until the very end of the day.Very disappointed in how they treated the situation.
Philippe Brunet: Epic
Han: Went here twice to try to get a rental and we got the worst people honestly, just down right rude, we got in touch with a manager and they had the person we spoke with who was rude to call us the next day, same experience. I have no idea where this sense of entitlement comes from from the staff to treat customers like they want to, this is supposed to be a place of business, anyway we took our business across the water to West Van (huge difference instantly!). I would also not trust all the 5 stars, they have a discount program that comes with reviewing them and giving them 5 stars. This was truly disheartening and demotivating to someone who is excited to learn how to sail. if you are not a welcoming team just make it an exclusive club and save the embarrassment.
Charlie Draycott: The can sail 1 course was great to learn the basics of sailing. Nice instructors, and a great amount of time out on the water
Julian Li-Brubacher: Amazing time going out from Jericho today. I loved sailing around in the Pirate.
William Mace: Took the CANSail 1 course, great location and knowledgable trainers, I now have the confidence to rent dingys and go out on my own!
Reliant Studios: MacSailing offers a variety of courses to take for all ages! Also the instructors here are super duper nice! The sailboats here are in top quality so safety is not an issue, if your interested in sailing I would 100% recommend you start here at MacSailing.
Alberto Mota: Great experience! Staff is amazing, really good service and boats. Love renting with them and highly recommend it.
Sandra H: Want to learn to sail? You can't go wrong with MacSailing. Whether it's private lessons or group classes, they make the book knowledge understandable and practical. You'll be out sailing right away no matter your level. And they're great at challenging you to do better, whether a beginner or experienced sailer.
Jonathan Wearing: Fantastic experience with the basic sailing course. Friendly and knowledgeable instructors and plenty of time on the water!
Letizia Waddington: It’s the place to go in Vancouver, none other. Friendly advice everyday.
Rose G: Excellent location and the most fri belt people you will ever meet in Vancouver! Highly recommend!
Evan Lee-Dodek: Best sailing club in the world

Underway Sailing: what do users think?
Alison Ward: I went from knowing hardly a thing about sailing to feeling comfortable enough to start sailing my own vessel in 5 (very intense, challenging and exhilarating) days. I highly recommend if you are serious about wanting to sail!
Jarrod Hitchings: I just completed my large keelboat skipper course from NauticEd with Underway Sailing. I had a great time doing it and found it very informative.
J & C: My wife and I signed up for some refresher lessons with Vaughan this year and halfway through the first day, I witnessed my wife’s confidence grow to new levels! Vaughan teaches with a strong emphasis towards safety and overall practicality. He provided us with a bit of homework to continue focused based learning on our own, which I greatly appreciated. I can’t recommend Vaughan enough for new, intermediate or advanced sailors, his sailing resume speaks for itself and can offer all levels of sailor’s knowledge and a better understanding of efficient sailing techniques.
Alistair Wilson: What a fantastic experience with Underway Sailing! Great instruction from Vaughan and I'm now inspired and confident to take the next step on my sailing journey. Highly recommended!
Arnaud BUSSIERES: Certainly the best school of the west coast. The instructor is incredibly qualified, patient, fun and prepares you for the best sailing.
Simon Fox: Sailing was not something I ever thought I would try or like. But wow! 4 days on the water (In October) for the Skipper Training program and I am blown away with the experience, what I now know, and the change it made to my life for the better.Firstly, Vaughn, the owner and facilitator of the course was fantastic. Super knowledgeable and experience and just a really nice guy who makes you feel at ease and trains you well all aspect of sailing and marine life. Pleasure to learn from and with him.Secondly, we learned everything! Okay, maybe not everything but enough theory and practical hands knowledge that I feel quite confident to get on a sail boat again and feel like I can assist. Not ready to skipper a boat, but would not be useless in a sailing situation. I will happily go back and prove this ;PIt was seriously one of the best experiences I have ever had and would highly recommend Underway Sailing to those wanting to learn sailing. But also to those struggling with confidence, wants to gain back some pro-dev mojo, or just learn something new. I really do not think you will regret it.
Nicholas Chen: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,Value
Jean-Pierre Gauthier: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueGreat experience! Vaughan the owner is really nice!

Hollyburn Sailing Club: what do users think?
Carlos Felicio: HSC is very conveniently located at the heart of Ambleside, and provides affordable sailing lessons to those of us who see the sailing boats all the time, and got some desire to learn and enjoy the ocean and the winds.I took CANSail 1 with them, and intend to take more lessons next year. Instructors were friendly and knowledgeable. It is certainly more exciting (and perhaps frightening) to sail a dinghy, but I feel that it will provide very valuable lessons before moving on to bigger boats.
Tom: Boats 🛥
Braxton Reimer: Excellent opportunity for youth to engage in a community and sport that gives them a high level of responsibility and place to grow
Dee Guttikonda: Our interaction with the frontline staff at Hollyburn sailing club has been disappointing. We have been trying for almost a month to book private sailing lessons and emails go unanswered despite multiple followups. When we sent the an email expressing disappointment at their tardiness and lack of response, their frontline employee sends us a dishonest email, claiming to have connected us with a particular instructor that we haven't been connected to.Our interaction with this club is less than desirable. I am leaving them a 1 star review not because of the lack of response, but specifically because of the dishonesty. I would have appreciated the employee stating they dropped the ball vs being dishonest about responding to us. Hopefully this club with hire some employees with integrity.
Nik Zral: g ood boat and saili ng for fun so fun will do agin
Paul Rogers: Visited with a member. Great location.
Emily Humer: Wonderful sailing camps for kids of all ages in a safe and positive environment!
Jason Khalighi: Great team, positive environment, lots of fun10/10
Travis: Wonderful little sailing club - great people, inexpensive and fun
Romana Milašinović: Predivno.Sve pohvale.🌞👏⛵
Thomas Dubouchet (NuclearDuck): Amazing club, amazing camps and lessons, amazing coaches; everything you need for loads of fun sailing! Definitely recommend
julie Hudson: Amazing local community club, volunteer run and provides wonderful coaching to many kids and adults alike. Excellent race teams for kids to join with passionate instructors who are also awesome role models for the kids.
Jungmi Y: So friendly and provides lots of fun and exciting events! Great sailing boats are available for the club members! I love this club!
Kat Cha: very old and unsafe equipment!
T Ng: They do racial profiling!
