South China Seas: what do users think?
Spencer Youngson: Drove here tday @ 2pm to get some spices and they were closed, this has happened several times with this company and even tho they say theyre open till 3. What a waste of my time
Jason: They carry aji amarillo paste and fresh habanero peppers.
Roisin Abbott: This place is great! It has so many ingredients I can’t find anywhere else in Vancouver and the quality is really good.
Fiona McInnes: A great little shop with a variety of cooking items. Bought a gift card so a family member can visit and shop at South China Seas.
Barbara Webb: Always get my curry paste here. Good selection and prices. Actually everything is good in here😊
John D: This store was easily one of the best additions to our neighbourhood. They have damned near everything, and helpful staff if you aren't quite sure what you're looking for.
Melvyn Ing: ⁷
Doug Yochim: I like it very much the one in the same Couver and the one in Grandville island. Very fresh ingredients for the staff.
Alissa .R: great place to get hard-to-find spices and seasonings, as well as some more unusual ingredients.
Ismith: Pretty poor service via telephone. Person on other end has very poor grasp of English so is completely unable to answer my questions about having an item in stock. No point in phoning them with questions.ADDENDUM: Following an e-mail received from SC Seas about this negative review, which attempted to excuse themselves from the poor phone service and explained their continued commitment to good customer service, together with the great culinary and cultural knowledge of their staff, I wanted to add that SC Seas is the go-to place for anything related to SE Asian cuisine and their longevity at Granville Island Public Market, together with their recently opened outlet in East Vancouver, has proven the test of time. I fully appreciate SC Seas' commitment; I would recommend visiting either of their stores. Nevertheless, they need to work on their responses to customer inquiries via telephone. Given what they tell me, I'm sure this will improve in the future.
Aric Bishop: bought online, prompt, excellent quality, exceptional quality rather and for items I could never get where I live
Ms R: Nice little place that has spices you can't easily find elsewhere.
Martin Merrigold: This place is rockstar for lots of hard to find ingredients, or sauces. Tonkatsu and Gochujang available here!
Dave Fisher: Great little out of the way place for spices and peppers.
Godwin C: Well curated selection of Asian spices and sundries
Randall Alexander: A great place to pick up a few items to add some spice to your relationship! :) Picked up some Ghost pepper hot sauce, Ghost peppers, Korean chilli flakes, Habanera Salsa, and some hot pickles for my gal. The fellow who works there knows his stuff and was really friendly.
M Camaiani: It's ok but doesn't have a really large variety of spices and what they have is a bit expensive... would make a bit more sense if they had a bigger selection and more of a bulk approach (think--Nutters) rather than all the pretty jars and outsourced spices etc that just cause it to be more expensive.Their fresh herbs and roots and in-store snacks etc are amazing ☺
Jeffrey Ellis: They just aren't open long enough.

I will never go there again and i will never let my friends to go there and get their pocket cut. He was so rude. I checked the price of the canola oil that they sell for 17 + dollars where as you can get that oil for 8.88 today for canadian superstore.
Jasleen Kohli: Very clean, very good customer service and organized store . I was so happy to get maharashtrian snacks and even South Indian snacks .They have more gujrati items . surinder trehan: I went to Day to Day grocery store located at Fraser street in Vancouver. I went there at 08.08 pm on 11 August 2022. I bought 3 packets of Nanak Aloo Tikki and the price mention on the cooler was $6.99 per box. The lady at the cashier forcefully charged me $7.99 per box and replied me that the store manager forgot to changed the price. It was their mistake and they are continuing mispresenting their customers. I am enclosing 2 photos with this review. Please be careful when you deal with them and make sure that you are being ripoff.

Balance Botanicals-teas, herbs and spices: what do users think?
Vadym: Good selection of teas and herbal meds
Chelsie Phillips: The owner is so lovely and knowledgeable. She always takes the time to explain the health benefits of each of the teas.
Nora: Super good!!! Essential oil is soooo good!
K G: I love this cute little shop, I even found a new tea I love. I'll be back next time I'm in town!Edit: still love it and very kind staff that are always willing to help.
loren c: First of all, what a lovely store! Really enjoyed browsing at the teas, essential oils, and bath products. I had a nice chat with the herbalist about TCM and the study of herbalism. I will definitely visit whenever I’m on Main Street.
Loran Tsang: It's such a nice surprise when I see it's full range of spices, herbs and oils. The owner even provides notes on how some remedies help to relieve symptoms, etc. I love this shop much more than other boutique stores on Main. Really worth a visit.
Jennifer Chu: Even though I was there for a specific item, I was impressed by the service, not to mention the wide selection of items. Supporting local businesses is important and I'm happy to do my part.
Ryan Fong: Not the cheapest but superior selection and quality
DANIELA RAMOS: This place is always magical for me! There's tons of different teas for different healthy issues, and it's not expensive!
Ky Guy8195: Always such great service and products that are hard to find elsewhere. This locally owned shop is a GEM on main
Sasha M: A unique little store with a great selection of goods to buy! Service can be a hit or miss, I've found, but generally, it's pretty good. Keep in mind that this place is quite pricey, so prepare a budget for yourself!
A Wang: Quite expensive and cold staff and not very helpful. I ask linden which they don’t have today. But the lady didn’t not help find alternative herbs at all. I saw many previous positive reviews but the latest was 2years ago. Maybe they are not as friendly and helpful as they were before 🤔
Stephanie Chan: Love the quality and variety of herbs they have. My favourite place to refill herbs in the city.
Amber Wol: awesome underrated place
Scott Mossop: Helpful and friendly!
Jennifer Kobelt: I love coming here! There are so many options of teas, herbs, spices, essential oils, beauty products and so much more!
chris chuy: Super helpful, friendly and provide great suggestions. Don't have a lot of stock of everything, I buy a lot... They mentioned you can email large orders which is super helpful and time saving for everyone!
Jaafar Aghajanian: Beautiful display and atmosphere! Warm service!
Anna Newman: I cannot imagine a better shop than this. Helpful & polite staff, a wide range of speciality herbs, spices, cleaning products, good pricing, an appealing shop design and zero waste. A real gem for the conscious shopper.
Jessie Tseng: Super great zero waste store. Nice staff (probably the owner).
GUY STOWELL: One of the coolest shops in Vancouver for sure. We buy lots of ingredients for our restaurant cocktails that you can't find anywhere else! Very happy to have this place on Main Street.

South China Seas: what do users think?
Granville Island: Zero customer service, staff standing around. Chatting behind the cash desk. No management around to guide or help.
H W: Very helpful staff helped me pick out a fun selection of unique cooking sauces to try. Prices seem to be reasonable for a boutique food shop.
Pio Pamintuan: Favorite place to buy spices and sauces. Really like that they have 20% Discount when you buy $100 which is is great deal and I enjoy their store experience in Granville.
Lora C: I stopped by shortly after Christmas Day 2022 to pick out a gift for an acquaintance with discerning tastes and who seemingly had tried every condiment. My eyes locked onto bottles of Japanese shoyu sitting on a shelf. Cherry-blossom shoyu and Black truffle infused shoyu both enticed me. I approached the person ( later revealed to be Pascal) behind the counter for assistance. He took his time and explained to me the different, ideal pairings for the shoyu as well as telling me his personal experience. And then, the said “hey you can try them.” Mathilde joined him. Out came the bottles and a spoon. I tried it and it was a revelation, the flavors. Made a choice and the purchase. Sad but this type of interaction is becoming less and less common as staff are too busy, or not well-informed. Anyways, I will be back! (I’m sure you can find the same stuff for slightly cheaper but the interaction is memorable and worth the slight extra you might pay.
Danni Liu: I loved this store. It only carries the most beautiful and high quality products that also tastes wonderful. My kids and I had a great time and the store manager and staff were so lovely! It's a must visit at the Granville Island Market!
Michelle E: A gem in this city. If you love to cook, this is a store that you need visit regularly. So many flavours and sauces and spices, when you arrive be prepared to take some time- the shop is tiny, but there is so much to choose from! And if you get lost, the staff are super approachable and knowledgeable and happy to help you find the flavours you're looking for. I've shopped here a few times now and have always had a great experience. Can't wait for my next visit!
Matthew Houben: Great selection of obscure ingredients—zaatar, black garlic, curry leaves, Mediterranean couscous, preserved lemon, dried fish heads, fresh galangal and more... if you like buying ingredients you've never used before and then trying to build a meal around them, it's a great place to shop. The two best sections for me are 1) the wall of fire, which has a great selection of hot sauces ranging from the accessible to the downright challenging (one time they had carolina reaper puree, which took me two years to get through, and I mean that as a commendation); and 2) an excellent selection of cookbooks, from David Chang to Ottolenghi to classics like the Herb & Spice Bible.Check this place out if you like exploring more out-of-the-way corners of the retail culinary scene.
John Doe: Love their selection, most staff were very helpful in finding a good hot sauce to take back with us!Only reason we did not rate higher is that one member of staff (a very tall portly man) was verbally very aggressive and called my wife and I "childish" because we were looking for a less spicy hot sauce, he also was very dismissive of other staffs suggestions which made an otherwise pleasant visit to your store slightly uncomfortable.Edit: My wife jumped the gun and posted her own reviews disclosing information our daughter was not comfortable with being shared, we haven't been back since but we decided as a team to remove her review out of respect for our daughter's privacy.
Sanja Basanovic: It is so much fun to browse this place. Hard to find ingredients and spices, big selection of hot sauces, fresh and dried chilies... You will most likely find everything you need for your next culinary adventure here.
Wendy de Kruyff: Great place to find hard to find spices and flavours! 🌶🌶🌶
Maxine Vinderland: My friend and I came here looking for spices todayand one of the employees a tall man with black hair and a mustache made us feel.very uncomfortable with his inappropriate comments wont be returning...
David Woodward: They carry the highest quality and best selection of herbs and spices in the city. They also sell lots of amazing sauces and ingredients that are hard to find. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, once of my favourite places to shop.
Michelle Chong: The sales manager Edmond are really professional and helpful during selection. I know they have changed the owner lately. Keep the good work and best selection for customers. Good luck.
Y C: Awful service and over priced! Anything you can buy here, you can buy in Chinatown for 40% to 80% cheaper. Total scam!
carmen chan: Always fun to browse this store on granville island! Inspires me to try new recipes :)
Sam LSD: Horrible. PAid google the highest to be on first advertised in vancouver. They are overpriced and they will rip you off. Do not go there.
Andy Aras: Very good selection of exotic spices, sauces and food.
Vanessa Liew: This shop is a lovely find in Granville market. They have various unconventional items that you might not find in other big Asian supermarkets. They carry everything from South East Asian, Thai, Indian. Great selection. There’s even a cookbook shelf??!! And the best thing, the guy at the counter is so helpful and well informed and carries a great conversation :)
Albert Yeo: Good selection of Asian spices and ingredients for cooking.
Timtwoface (Timtwoface): Great shop hiding in the centre of the Granville Island Public Market! Be sure to sample their hot sauces!
Josh Allard: Weird place/staff but good stock.

The Grainry: what do users think?
andrew kuznetsov: this is a family business with an extremely kind and helpful owner. the selection of spices here is amazing and you can tell the products are carefully sourced. it's also a good place to get delicious but healthy snacks. we got dried mango, strawberry yogurt covered pretzels, and seasoned almonds. so glad we stopped here for snacks to eat while walking around granville market.
Alex Larbi: Awesome spot for spice shopping. Aside from this and the sausage shop, I didn’t find much to interest me at Granville Island but those two totally made it worthwhile! Other reviews are right, really unique hard to find spices here
Y C: Lovely place with super niche spices. Service was great and it helps that the clerk there was so handsome!
J B: Awesome little hidden gem in Granville Island. Unlike most places, not ever priced and they have so many products that are impossible to find anywhere else. I go nowhere else when I am looking to spice up my recipes!
T M: The Grainry is one of my favourite places to pick up bulk food items at Granville Island. The staff is super helpful. You can buy most types of grains, seeds, nuts, spices, etc. here, especially some that are harder to find at supermarkets. Pre-pandemic, it was great since I could bring all of my own bags to fill and have close to zero waste. Now with the pandemic, the staff have been as accommodating as possible to fill orders (in their bags) as you list off items from your shopping list. This place is run by a family with more than one generation serving their customers. They are also great at making recommendations and answering questions.

Ian Twa: Famous foods is a Vancouver health food store staple. Their butcher is amazing. Best quality steaks at the best prices in Vancouver. Located on Kingsway.
R & R: The best grocery store in Vancouver! Just feels like I am not lining the pockets of another Billionaire grocery store owner. Excellent bulk products with a focus throughout the store of organic and natural.
Lorraine Baker: Aisles are a bit narrow, but the selection and quality are worth it.
Tim L: Awesome shop for hard to find grocery items. They also carry a full range of regular groceries. Amazing selection of herbs and spices, baking ingredients, and fresh food.
Kevin Rinfret: Vancouver's best grocery store with great selection and prices.
joe smith: A big selection of health food and groceries. Reasonable prices.
Saeed Azarie: Vancouver's Organic Food hub. Lots of different varieties at good prices.

Michel Cote: Lots of selections, plus they are keen to serve people
ewan quirk: A Vancouver landmark since circa 1968? best place to find dried herbs and odd spices, top quality in dried fruits and nuts, seeds and grains. baking supplies etc. what a good grocery store should be. Every foodie should visit here just once, you will return. General Store? Grocery Store? Neighborhood Food Store?
Tony Enright: Been going in lately for deli goods and juices.
Pat Fung: Shelves are stocked well. Prices are usually fair. Watch for their weekly flyer that starts every Thursday.
Katherine: Great , local grocery store. Awesome selection! I come here for their huge bulk foods selection. They have a ton of products that I cannot find elsewhere. Bonus? Great staff and free parking!
Nour: They exploit their customers by overcharging for Buddy's Mandarins. While the same product with the same weight is sold for $4.99 elsewhere, Famous Foods charges $6.99. I will not return and i am sure they overcharge most of their ware, I'm unsure why they add additional charges to their other products.
Joe Patterson: This a really old school healthy food store, staff are all friendly and helpful, still helpful as ever.
Jerry Thomas: Good selection of items that one cannot normally get at other stores. They have many types of rice but not may organic options. I would still recommend it.
Valerie Russell: Great selection of foods like flours or other items usually found in bulk. I was able to find all that I needed and a bit more. Great selection, friendly people. The variety of items is very good. Employees are very helpful and friendly.
SUNG SOO Im: 매장은 그리 넓지 않아도Organic 식품을 전문적으로취급하는 곳입니다

Vancouver Olive Oil Company: what do users think?
Masayo Takahashi: They have high quality of olive oil, Staffs are very knowledgeable and trusted. You can taste the oil so you can more closely to choose your favour oil. The taste is amazing and very flavourful.since I met them I only buy this olive oil.
Gwen Warne: These guys used to have a booth in Granville island, their white balsamic vinegars are to die for. I’ve had several over the years and am currently on their peach orchard , which has a strong intense flavour, and pairs really well with goat cheese, or mixed with a bit of olive oil and used as a salad dressing.
Azin Z: Love their oil collection. It’s a must have 😋
Daniel Naumann: Got the Espresso and Dark Chocolate Balsamic vinegars. Slight aromas of each when I open the bottles. When I tried both of them with bread, I got simply the nice fruity balsamic taste. The chocolate was a bit thicker than the Espresso. I tried them again with a plain extra virgin olive oil on bread but could still only taste balsamic. Then I tried a spoon of each and could detect coffee and chocolate.Later I tried the Dark Chocolate again with avocado and could taste the chocolate clearer. Now I'm getting into them so I will experiment and see what foods bring out the flavours. I'm also curious to try both on vanilla ice cream. So far we've had the Arbequina olive oil, and the BlackBerry Ginger and Fig Balsamic vinegars, all delicious. Will be back for more.BTW, I see some comments mentioning there is only street parking, but there is an underground parking lot accessed from the alley behind Trafalgar Mews. Otherwise there are non-metered spaces on Larch and Trafalgar above and below Broadway.Daniel
Kevin S: Currently doing storefront/ sidewalk sales. Great selection, high quality. This is the good stuff! Don't overlook their great selection of vinegars.
Amandah Delain: This group of gals - a family of caringWomen will educate you on the merits of a fresh olive oil! The service is quick & efficient! You’ll love the experience for sure! The best!
Dollie Fambro: I have not been in a while but the vinegars I bought there were awesome and the customer service was great.
George Davis: This place is magnificent
Stephen Field: Expert help with fresh olive oil and balsamic vinegar potions
D P: Ok the staff at Vancouver Olive Oil are the best. Helpful, postive and genuinely interested in helping me find the best oil and vinegar. They know how to bring customers back!
Selena Singh: Outstanding quality oils and vinegars. I bought from the stall on Granville Island, the stall holder was very kind and knowledgable and I’m delighted with my purchases (lemon olive oil made with whole crushed lemons!) and white raspberry balsamic
Veronica Masters: Great selection, patient friendly knowledgeable staff. Well worth the price.
Jeff Feng: The traditional balsamic is out of this world and is all natural! A couple of my favorites here include: Mango white balsamic, Persian lime olive oil, garlic olive oil. You can get really creative with the flavors and everything is as natural as they can be. Just ask the ladies there for help if you can't decide; you get to taste all of the olive oil and vinegars too!
burgess andre: This is hands down no questions ask the best source of primium olive oil in the city
Adi Burton: I think this is my favorite place. You can taste it all!
Jacqui W.: Love this place and very knowledgeable staff!
Jackson Andrei: The downfall to this store is the staff. My girlfriend wanted to get some olive oil so she started filling up a bottle, then the lady barked at us that the staff fill the bottles and not the customers. That would be useful information to tell someone when they come in the store. The lady had a look on her face that could melt paint. Maybe you should explain how things work before taking a condescending tone.
Allen Smith: Great product quality service
Chris: Great place to try out different oils and vinegars
Enzo Casal: Very nice and organized. It's great to see them fill and seal the olive oil of your choice. Great experience
Jeremy Mayer: I love this place. You don't know what you're missing out on with store bought Olive oil until you experience the Olive oil from here. The staff are really knowledgeable and friendly.
