Eugenia Alcayaga Cazaux: Lamentablemente pésima experiencia desde un principio, nos enviaron incluso departamentos con las características que no buscábamos, era muy poco personal, es la misma lista que envían a todos básicamente. Luego de elegir un departamento, siempre bajo el precio que nos dijeron era el mínimo (una vez en vancouver encontramos más ofertas y más precios) nos pidieron firmar inmediatamente, nosotros les pedimos las fotos o vídeos del departamento para verlo, ya que es parte de su trabajo ir a visitar el departamento para mostrarnoslo ya que estamos en otro país, y para ver en que condiciones esta. Insisten que si no firmabas lo perdemos, no tenían fotos ni video por que nunca fueron a verlo, por lo que no firmamos. Al llegar a Vancouver y ver el departamento no estaba pintado ni limpio, fuimos a ver el estacionamiento, bodega etc y no sabían por dónde llevarnos ya que nunca habían ido.. un desastre, cero preocupación por su trabajo, solo querían una firma y el dinero. Otro punto nos explicaron pésimo el dinero a desembolsar para arrendar, finalmente pésima experiencia.. de principio a fin.

Anton Shoham: For a first year uni residence this is as good as it gets. Private rooms, and a bathroom shared with only one person. Good views, nice modern look.There are issues with build quality though. For example, table fixtures are sometimes not installed correctly. The ventilation system is connected to open kitchen, so areas outside the elevators smell like food exhaust. Many power outlets don't work, and light switches are connected between 3 floors in the lounges

SHENGYU ZUO: State-of-the-art building.

Amy M: Lived here when it first opened back in 2016, everything was shiny and brand new. Still looking new today.There’s 0 sound insulation though, I could here my neighbours from all 3 sides. So if you get unlucky you might get an early bird, night owl and dorm party host neighbour combo and you’ll never be able to sleep again haha. Also living on the higher floors means that sometimes you have to wait 5-10minutes for an elevator to come. Sucks especially when everyone is rushing for their 8am classes. But it’s all part of the college experience :)

If you go to the caf, just be mindful of this becuase your day can me ruined so quick. I'm hoping UBC changes their staff to not middle aged angry ladies, very poor experience.

The building includes 17 storeys of cross laminated timber floors supported on glue laminated timber column,atop a concrete base with two 18 storrey concrete containing exit stairs and elevators.with the height of 53 meters and total floor area of 162700 sq.ft, Brock commons tallwood house is the tallest mass timber building in the world. The construction started in November 2015,andbit was opened in July 2017, the structure was completed in less than 70 days after the prefabricated components were first delivered to the site. wood is sustainable and versatile building material that stores, rather than emits, carbon dioxide. By using wood, the impact is a reduction of 2432 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide compared to other construction materials, the equivalent of taking around 500 cars off the road for a year. It accommodates 404 students in 272 studios and 33 four bedroom units.the total cost of the building is approximately Rs.265 crores.Thank you.Like if review is knowledgeable.

James Hare: TALLWOOD LIFE HACKS:- Call Shaw to ask for cable TV, it is included in your rent! They will come and install a modem for you. Just byoTV- You can borrow ping pong gear from Gage front desk- To have the 18th floor study lounge all to yourself, simply turn off the fuse switch for the key card reader- Your student card can be your room key, ask one of the (younger) gage front desk staff- The closet doors make excellent tables if you have an adjustable wrench- Remove your faucet aerators and replace with $2 home hardware ones to get better water flow- You can use a Collegium locker on the 1st floor! Just ask the staff inside for permission.- the second last dryer on the right will give you double the drying time if you set it to "hot".... no one knows why. Try it!THE BAD:- The sinks give off a measly amount of water. (45 seconds to fill a 1L bottle) See above for fix- The furniture is 2/10 in the comfort scale. Bring pillows, mattress toppers, and sneak in your own furniture to make the living spaces comfy.- The elevators break down on a weekly basis.- Tallwood has poor representation in the Gage Residence Association and should probably form it's own government ASAP. Events are poorly advertised and have low attendance.- You can't access the Collegium, even on weekends when the kiddos aren't there- south facing rooms get roasting hot in summer and suffer from light pollution from North ParkadeThe Good:- 1/4 of rooms have a DROP DEAD GORGEOUS view of Howe sound (Top 9 floors, facing North)- Rent is $950/mo for Quads, $1150 for Singles. At those prices, Quads have amazing value and more square feet per person than a single anyway!- Fewer fire alarms than nearby Walter GageThe FYI:- There is one RA every 3 floors. (3,6,9,12,15,18)- you can host parties with up to 25 (but hey, who's counting!) guests in a Quad. Ask your RA for a form.- ODD NUMBERED ROOMS (i.e: 905, 1113, 1805) face north and have the great views. EVEN NUMBERED ROOMS (202, 1808, 1316) face South over campus. All quads face east/ west and above the 6th floor you are guaranteed a nice view in the Quads.- heating only works when all windows are closed. There is no A/C

KW: This is a great student residence at UBC. It is 3 tall towers that are 17 floors(I think they're all 17 floors). Each floor has 4 quads, 2 filled with males and 2 filled with females. Each quad has 6 roommates who have their own private room, and shared full kitchen, bathroom, and living/lounging area. The kitchen has 2 full sized refrigerators, and the bathroom has 2 showers. Its relatively quiet for studying, but there are lots of activities and gathering areas, including a nice fireplace in the lobby. There are laundry rooms in each tower, a small convenience store, vending machines, and ping pong tables (plus lots more) student parking is convenient, and so is visitor parking. This is a nice dorm to live in. If you're lucky, you'll also get a beautiful view. The picture is from my son's dorm room window!

Zoé Krisko: Sink was totally blocked when we arrived and beds were uncomfortable. It was difficult to communicate when there was an error. The 2 fridges were appreciated tho and kitchen well equipped in pans, but no baking trays or salt or pepper. Only one knife as well. The odour in the room was weird and we could hear every neighbouring noise.On a more positive, the rooms were spacious and the main entrance was beautiful and had lots of tables and couches to chill in.

K S: If you ever stay here thru the summer highly recommend an air conditioner. These buildings are over 30 years old and have virtually no ventilation.

Emma Ng: Have lived here for nearly a year and it’s been good. The res is surrounded by well taken care plants and trees. In winter, they put salt on the path to ensure the snow melts so it causes less problems for students.Nice staffs at the housing office who are willing to address any concern you may have. Cleaners come over your suite every day to clean, and they love chit chatting with you! They are also very considerate and friendly, they love listening to your stuffs, and they also love sharing their daily life stories :).They have event at least once every month which usually has free food and fun games. Whoever that attends normally has a chance of winning the draw.Rent is very affordable for such nice service and living area. Only thing that I don’t like is laundry fee is not included in the rent.

Each floor also has a bathroom and 2 showers. The kitchen is a good size, but contains older appliances and cabinets.Overall an alright experience, but I've definitely seen nicer dorms.
