Vanmates: what do users think?
I am grateful to vanmates. My roommates were all nice people. If you have any questions, Vanmates stuff will tell you. Your trip will be more wonderful.
Manuel Alcocer: The company provides a good service, when problems arise they are always available to help you. In my case Victor Sanchez was always solving my doubts and supporting me even in moments and situations that did not correspond to him.Overall all good with VanMates
Paula Roldan: The service was wonderful. Naty slato helped us find pur first home in Canada. She was very patient and caring. Algo fundamental us the perfecto appartment, exactitud what we wanted.
eugene oloresisimo: Emilio Cueto always help us in anyway for student placement and follow ups. We thank him for all the help.
Gracias ☺️ 🙏🏼
Je An: Vanmates is professional homestay agent. We have received and hosted lots of amazing students from all over the world, courtesy of Vanmates. They treat families and students nice and kindly, and make good matches for the family and students. They communicate professionally, nicely, smoothly and in a timely manner.
Marco Berlis: Vanmates has great service. When looking for a safe place to stay for our daughter, Bibiana Garcia guided us from the very start, and found the perfect family and place for her. Payments are easily made online and if we have any questions Bibiana always helps with a friendly attitude! Thank you very much Vanmates and Bibiana!
Camilo Calderón Franco: Even though the place I arrived wasn't what I expected, Vanmates team always been communicate to me, looking new places, and working for make me feel good and comfortable. They are a wonderful team willing to help you anytime.

GEC Viva: what do users think?
Silvio Tönz: Nice location and view...Horrible management, dirty, shabby and NO service at all!Just a little example: In my room was snot from previous tenants at the walls. After I told them of the 16 bed bugs I found, they expected me to sleep another 4 nights in the bed until a treatment was organized. Because I was not offered me a proper room I moved out to a hotel and afterwards to another accomodation. The landlord still does not want to come up for the costs of the temporary hotel room and the damage caused by the whole bugs treatment (washing clothes with at least 55°C...). Even though they obviously must have known of the bugs (the waste bin was full of them before I moved in -- see pictures).I also had great difficulty getting out of here. I had to invoke BC tenancy law, several articles of which were broken by the landlord.
Carla Giesecke: Perfect location in Vancouver Downtown. The residence is a good place to get together and meet new people.Sometimes the staff organize a come togehter which is a really nice!
Théa Colin: I don't even know where to start. Very expensive accommodation for what it really is. The apartments are dirty, the cleaning ladies don't come by at all every week, or just give a little sponge cleaning, some of the tiles are full of dirt. Some rooms don't even have windows. And I'm not talking about the false advertising "netflix access in all apartments", when we would just like to have a CLEAN apartment. On top of all this, we are treated like children. We have to constantly justify ourselves to the security person when we want to invite someone to our home. On the other hand, when the viva staff wants to come to your apartment, they act like they are at home and don't even knock on the door.If I have an advice: RUN !
Honteux!!!
Chun Lok Tang: The management treats tenants like kids and it’s way overpriced for the service, literally no service because they expect you doing it. Staff are mostly unhelpful and they could blame you for anything. You get notice everywhere saying you could be fined for not doing certain things which makes me feel like living in a prison. Convenient location though but you could outright rent a better place. Might be a good place if you’re staying for three months but consider other places if you’re making a longer stay.
Balubos: Expensive, management is extremely annoying, interiors were dirty and walls damaged. They will not hesitate to charge extra for anything. If you have any other option, take it. Side note : administration will frequently check the rooms and the common room, often intruding without warning, sometimes not even a knock, and you're lucky if you get a 24 hour notice. This place is a place you pick as a last choice. There is also close to no noise isolation between units. You are treated like an inmate, or a child.I was lucky to get nice neighbors and fun roommates, but if it weren't for them I would have left within a week.
Moni Kho: Stay away from this place. Loud Flat Mates who bring over tons of guests without asking other flat mates (as required), ignoring quiet hours, very messy flatmates who refuses to clean up after self, as well as flatmates who won't lock the unit door
Natalia Quezada: I had an amazing time in GEC viva while I was studying English. Their prices are competitive and all the services are included, I would definitely stay with GEC if I decide to go to Vancouver again.
Andy Lau: Convenient and comfort as hell!
Jim Roberth Quillatupa Callupe: It was more than I expected, it has a very good location, all services are first class and a convenient cost. I highly recommend it especially for people coming to Vancouver for the first time.
Neti Neti: Stayed here for a month in Oct 2020. GEC manages 5 properties including one full service hotel just down the road. The hotel is slightly expensive at $1800 per month but they have weekly options and weekly housekeeping too. If you don't mind just one room then go for the hotel for sure. Much cleaner and well managed with nice staff. If you want another location then you could check their Cambie and Pearson locations.Pros: Best value for money at $1200 a month for a private bedroom in a shared apartment. Downtown and no long lease commitment. Secure entry with fob and elevator access. Basic furniture like dining table, chairs, sofa and drawer/small cabinet in apartment. Well stocked kitchen with basic utensils and cutlery. Fridge, dishwasher, and washer dryer all ensuite. They organize events regularly for all the tenants (online for now) which are free and gives a good opportunity to make new connections with others in the building.Cons: Payment only accepted in cash or through a third party website with commission. A Canadian company that does NOT accept Interac e-transfer in this day and age, surpriseing. I wasn't allowed to pay through my business account either. Staff is extremely rigid and unfriendly and any requests for room change within the same apartment or something else, are refused. All queries are met with standard copy paste one line email answers. Most of the staff are non native English speakers who are ex ESL students, and it's difficult to communicate with them verbally or on email. While this is a commendable policy, they should have atleast a manager or supervisor who can communicate clearly without confusion. After all, its a for profit company, not a community service organization.Staff treats everyone like students or kids, even the working professionals. Very nanny like approach for most things. There are tons of notices of what to do, how to do and pretty much everything is an invitation for fine. However, this only is applicable to us and not them. There is no fine for housekeeping or maintenance not showing up on time, but the tenant has to move out at 11am else fined. The security literally showed up at 10.45 and began pestering me to move out asap. Also was wondering why I was taking so long. Ridiculous. Security desk is basically useless. Just chair warming and looking at the screen all day, no help with opening the door even if they see you have heavy huge luggage. Maintenance staff is also incompetent, they didn't know how to repair the damp wet dryer and leaking dishwasher and blamed us for improper use. Most common areas closed and no visitors allowed even in lobby.Good choice for a month or two, but definitely not long term. Unless you're enamoured with the downtown only downtown and can ignore all the cons above.
Jay “JP” Palav: Great place to stay
Haley Mclean: GEC Viva is perfectly located in the downtown central of Vancouver, with all necessities for living a short distance away. The furnished rooms and apartments are stylishly incorporated with consideration for comfortability and convenience! It’s also a great way for students to make friends and ease into the prospect of city living with tons of support.
Sofia Graves: Great space for students!
lin Dang: Honestly this place is really nice. Definitely perfect for fresh out of high school students, no need to hassle yourself with buying furniture and kitchen utensils. The staff here are accommodating and friendly. The beds are comfortable and housekeeping is respectful of your privacy and your belongings. 10/10 would recommend students to live here. They location is perfect close to shops, the beach and some great eats.
raima iqbal: GEC is a very secured place in downtown vancouver for students. The location is really good and all the food restaurants and shopping malls are close. There are many grocery marts too including shoppers drug mart. As you will be living with your roommates you will get opportunities to make friends here.
Megha Panchal: It is friendly, comfortable and I would also say homely for the students !The staff is quick at responding to the questions and issues, if we face any.I came to know about GEC from my school website's accommodation section. I even emailed back to my school about this place being really good for us international students and asked them to recommend GEC to any student who asks about good and secured home thats at affordable price and quite near to school as well ! 3 :D
Roseanne Cheng: Awesome view from my room and really friendly and helpful staff!
kurt kurt: Very poor service! It is very expensive to live there. Everything they provide is dirty and worn out. The rooms are very smal and when I moved in there was still dirt from the person before. The staff is very rude and not helpful. The cleaners seldom showed up and dind't clean properly. I saw them sitting on our chairs and do nothing. The oven was not working as well as the sink. We waited over one month for a plumber.STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!!
Ziyi He: HORRIBLE place!!!!! Room is dirty with old worn-out furnishings, and the staffs were EXTREMELY RUDE!!!!! They break into your unit anytime they want, even the cleaning lady broke into my room when I was falling asleep!!!! They even tried to avoid returning the deposit back...... Way too costly for an accommodation with this value, pls avoid at all cost!!!!! Would leave 0 star if possible

GEC Pearson: what do users think?
Hang Xing: The apartment facilities are very good, and the transportation is very convenient. It is walking distance from supermarket, and shopping center. Check-inwas very smooth, the staff is friendly with very good attitude. They speak both Chinese and English.
Tania Lui: The people who work in the buildings are really nice and helpful. I liked Halloween decorations and candy. I’ve only been here for only two months and it’s been great.
Simran Chahal: nice place with nice people
Iris lu: This is a very good check-in experience. For a new here, it has a variety of perfect equipment, including the network, which is very convenient. It is quiet around and in the apartment. It is not far from the skytrain station, supermarket and bank. It is highly recommended.
JY M: During my time at GEC, I have kept a healthy diet, built new friendships, and enjoyed every day waking up seeing the beautiful view in the neighborhood. With T&T, Shoppers, and Marine Drive station all within walking distance, you can live your life here without worrying too much about transit or grocery. The caretaker has been very responsive to requests, making sure all the enquires are met in a timely manner, which contributes to a satisfying living experience. The room comes with furnitures and includes Wi-Fi, providing everything you need to start your life in a new city. Based on the reasons above, I would definitely recommend the place to anyone looking for an apartment that is both convenient and carefree.
Sophie Tomoko: I’m really satisfied this wonderful place! The building is new and clean, facility is perfect, everything included like wifi, washer and dryer in your unit, and central heating. The location is convenient, 7 minutes walk to the skytrain station and bus stops are in front of the building, you can take only one train to downtown Vancouver and Richmond both direction. All GEC staffs are nice and always have events to welcome you. I really love this place and won’t to move out to another place. Thank you GEC!
kento hayata: only one window, so hot in summer, so dark at night because of few light. please improve them.
There are some equipments. For example, it has a gym. People can use them easily!!!!!!!!!!
OTONASHI HARUTA: it is nice place so confortable i enjoy canada life!!!
阿部智也: very comfortable and good equipments
Yanni Wong: I’m a new comer from Hong Kong and I have been living here for 2 months. Comparing with other residences I really believe that I have picked a right place where it made me settled down very fast that I don’t have to worry about internet, security and facilities….. I really appreciate the function organized by GEC on 20th Oct that I could meet more friends and surely we can help each others for accommodation of Canada and school life, thanks GEC and you guys!😄
Li John: GEC Pearson is in a perfect location for me. Within 10 mins walking distance to Marine Drive SkyTrain station, you can get the supermarket, banks, A&W, Tim Hortons, Starbucks, restaurants, cinema and pharmacy. Also, there are several playgrounds nearby. The bus stop just 2 mins apart from the building.Since the white goods and utilities are included, I believe the rent is quite competitive to the market.I would say I definitely enjoy staying here.
Highly recommend. Has a very good location and take less than 5 min to skytrain. I had a great experience living here.
Eric Wang: Awesome experience living at Pearson. Amenities are great. The staff are very friendly and helpful! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good residence.
Xirui Huang: I have been living at GEC Pearson for weeks, and it has been a fantastic experience! I will highly recommend the place to my friends will definitely come back next time
Ting: GEC Pearson has a very good location. It is a good choice for Chinese from China to have a skytrain, bus, supermarket, bank, coffee and clinic within 8 minutes of going out. We can also go to the gym for fitness every day.
Karthikeyan Baskar: My girlfriend is living here. Initially it was good but as time went by and after COVID cases started to reduce, they seemed to have increased the rent drastically. $1000 for a shared room and a shared bathroom (not a house, but a shared room!!!!!).Okay, the rent is high so you expect the other facilities to be good. That's a big no!The security is only available 3 days a week at night. She has also repeatedly complained about people partying and playing very loud music in the building spaces at night since it's summer and the windows need to be kept open it's just frustrating. . Even the calls to security are of no use (and to note, these calls can only be made whenever there's security available. On the other days, nothing can be done about the noise). There's no air conditioning in the building so even the windows can't be closed at summer times since it's 40 degree Celsius in Vancouver right now and there's a heat wave warning. She can't wait to get out of that place. Would definitely not recommended to others. Waste of money.
Simcha Stecklov: The management took a studio apartment and partitioned it to 2 tiny rooms, living room and kitchen. As mentioned in another review, the "partitioning" is partial as the walls do not reach all the way to the ceiling (meaning that if you or the other stranger get sick, neither can isolate. Also, I can't imagine that the "Partitioned Room" without a window is a legal partition. If the other room is locked and the window is closed, the is no ventilation for the entire studio!
Jane L.: "Sectioned" spaces mean that you will see and hear your roommate when you're on your bunk bed. Obviously, your roommate can see your room and stuffs too! Luckily my rm was a peaceful and quiet person, but......Moreover, your sectioned bedroom will be maybe twice and half the size of a single bed. One more thing. One of you will not have a window in your room. This room is $1,200?Maybe okay to find a roommate to move out together, but no more than that.

Orchard Commons Student Residence: what do users think?
CHAOMING LEE (HENRY): Terrible restaurant, last year, it change to buffet style, but the food still have only few choice, seldom change menu and taste no good. Wondering how UBC students can stand this kind of business in this prestige school. Go to check SFU, they charge students 15 dollars, but the food is triple better than UBC.
Noah Olavarría: cozy
Ophelia Tong: Same food options for lunch and dinner yet dinner is 2$ more lol
Thomas McGrath: It's alright
Anton Shoham: For a first year uni residence this is as good as it gets. Private rooms, and a bathroom shared with only one person. Good views, nice modern look. There are issues with build quality though. For example, table fixtures are sometimes not installed correctly. The ventilation system is connected to open kitchen, so areas outside the elevators smell like food exhaust. Many power outlets don't work, and light switches are connected between 3 floors in the lounges
SHENGYU ZUO: State-of-the-art building.
Amy M: Lived here when it first opened back in 2016, everything was shiny and brand new. Still looking new today. There’s 0 sound insulation though, I could here my neighbours from all 3 sides. So if you get unlucky you might get an early bird, night owl and dorm party host neighbour combo and you’ll never be able to sleep again haha. Also living on the higher floors means that sometimes you have to wait 5-10minutes for an elevator to come. Sucks especially when everyone is rushing for their 8am classes. But it’s all part of the college experience :)
Michael DeMarco: Definitely doesn't feel like a student residence, but it's nice!
Patrick Mirindi (Pat): Very calm environment to work
Shourya Gulati: You think this is a good res? Seriously? OC is the worst first-year-res. The community is dead. You won’t enjoy here. My advice is that if you live in OC, come to totem everyday if you want to make memories.
Kashish Joshipura: Highly overrated
HAUWA AHMED-FARI: Really nice residence. And the rooms were surprisingly spacious
Erfan Forghani: Super crowded, smelly building
A choo: Terrible customer service, the ladies are ALWAYS angry for absolutetly no reason, I was trying to pay for my food and they got mad at me for not swiping the card or soemthing, ruined my entire day and i went back to my room and cried because it made me so angry. If you go to the caf, just be mindful of this becuase your day can me ruined so quick. I'm hoping UBC changes their staff to not middle aged angry ladies, very poor experience.
Tyler He: Food tastes bad, and it's a total rip off. There's tons of good food on campus, don't eat on res.
Pranav Verma: Great food and residence!
Olaoluwa Michael Igbalajobi: It's a residence but I have classes there and the rooms are quite conducive
Malcolm Isaac Maxwell: Beautiful architecture, kind people, and a desire to keep doing what you’re doing, orchard commons is truly inspiring
Max Hnatiuk: Awesome views and nice residents.
Alexia Landry: Food isn’t great, but the housing is good
Olav Cramer: Clean, concierge-style student accommodations in a modern setting specifically conducive to the right mix of social, studies and clean, quiet accommodations with an excellent kitchen to boot.

Exchange Student Residence: what do users think?
Owen Post: Had to drink water from a bowl
edgar clark: Confusing layout but I mean I'm sure the building itself is structurally well
Tom MacIntyre: Very small rooms. Still too expensive.
Sudhir Kumar: One the best Housing for undergrad students at UBC
Chandra Sahu: Good
Simon G: The building is nice, the views are great, the price and location are compelling.- Building fire alarm goes off frequently (3 times in 3 months) at 3am.This is a good place to stay if you don't mind hanging outside at 3am the night before an exam. I think most people mind a lot though, myself included. I hope building management can find a solution, I asked front desk and they told me that sometimes it goes off every day. Most recent fire alarms:Sep 25th ~230amNov 6th ~930pmNov 7th ~800pm
Sparkling Ice: This place also serves as the front desk for Brock Commons Tallwood House, if you're in Brock you need to come here for your mail which is kind of a rip.
Mohammad Ramadan: Friendly staff, clean and taken care of front desk and apartments
Muntakim Rahman: Vending Machine Ran Out of Coke Zero . 5/10

GEC Burnaby Heights: what do users think?
MESH DEVKOTA: The elevator was not working, and there was no way for me and my friend to get inside the apartment building…because the company did not provide us with an extra set of backup keys for EMERGENCY to unlock the stairway doors, and was locked out in the cold for about an hour. You guys should provide an extra set of keys for the stairwell for THIS EXACT EMERGENCY SITUATION!!! Horrible experience!
No me sentí segura. Ni mi cama estaba ordenada. Nadie recibe a nadie. Pienso debe haber más orden y seguridad.
Shawna Bisson: Lived here for 6ish months. I really like the apartment - furnished nicely and has everything i need! Decor is nice as well. It was a great place to live while here for school and I love that the move in/out days were so flexible as that was a key thing I was looking for when looking for places to rent. The area is really nice, lots to do and see. I felt safe walking alone even at night. The caretaker is awesome, she is always there for anything you need. The only thing I would say that kinda sucked is the bed. It is so hard and uncomfortable that I had to buy a cheap mattress from Ikea and put it on the floor. I have a bad back and the bed was so hard and I was so sore after sleeping on it for even just a few days.Overall great experience and I would definitely recommend! (:
Kai Austin: Ive lived at GEC Burnaby for about two weeks now, and I love every part of living here! The management is so accommodating and helpful, and they are always trying to make the best of your experience. A great place to stay as a student, too.
Nathaneil Marasigan: I've been here for 5 months now. Overall my stay here it is very much like a home to me. It definitely feels like home. From the security of the building and the professional attitude of the caretaker.
Deo Pabalan Boldo III: The facilities are great! I basically just have to move in with my clothes and everything was provided. We have nearby parks which is good for running. A few blocks away, you have multiple stores including Safeway for your groceries. Location wise, neighborhood is safe and quite. Multiple bus stops are available within 2-10 minutes walk.
Elite Property Masters: Lived here under my company name , been here for almost 8 months now. Management is top notch! Price/sf is a steal. Fit for any sort of people!
Brennan H: This student's residence is really good because it has all the facilities that a person needs and the place is constantly cleaned by housekeeping weekly. Not mentioning my nice and friendly roommates.
Bill Herger: New retail medical complex
Shunsuke:
Matt: Pretty much the worst experience I've ever had with a company. From the move in the day to trying to wrap up at the end of the semester, even basic tasks were completed in the most incompetent fashion. The rent is ridiculously high for burnaby, 990$ for a shared room. There is a mandatory cleaning fee which is all of a lady wiping down the counter and putting everything on the counter into the sink regardless of what it is. It is described as "furnished" and "move-in ready" but it took all of 6 months for the couches to arrive and there is not even a table, just the provided desks. As I moving out in april, (since it is considered an "off campus res,") a girl knocked on my door with full luggage almost in tears at the fact that there was nobody around to give her keys or information as to where to go. The have also removed the ability to pay through e-transfers which may seem minor but the cost of wire transfers build up quickly. All in all if you're a student looking for somewhere to live thats off campus, find a single basement suite since you'd be saving money and won't have to put up with the constant screw-ups this company undergoes on a weekly basis
Diego Nieto: Awesome
Allison Cornell: This is not a hotel! It is an apartment complex.

Walter Gage Student Residence (New Main Entrance): what do users think?
Vikas Kant: If you have work at UBC campus or visiting your children studying there, this is the best place to stay on campus. Manged by university itself for guests for conferences or otherwise. It's near, clean and we'll maintained facility with quite a few nice eating joints within few minutes of walking distance. Most rooms & suites have kitchenette & utensils provided to help guest do quick meals as well. Parking is a plenty & free for guests.
KW: This is a great student residence at UBC. It is 3 tall towers that are 17 floors(I think they're all 17 floors). Each floor has 4 quads, 2 filled with males and 2 filled with females. Each quad has 6 roommates who have their own private room, and shared full kitchen, bathroom, and living/lounging area. The kitchen has 2 full sized refrigerators, and the bathroom has 2 showers. Its relatively quiet for studying, but there are lots of activities and gathering areas, including a nice fireplace in the lobby. There are laundry rooms in each tower, a small convenience store, vending machines, and ping pong tables (plus lots more) student parking is convenient, and so is visitor parking. This is a nice dorm to live in. If you're lucky, you'll also get a beautiful view. The picture is from my son's dorm room window!
Marwyn Pangaliman: Nice
Gordon Lumsden: Fabulous accommodationClean and had everything you could ask for.Highly recommended 👍
Prattama Santoso Utomo: Ok
Rajesh Chandran: The accommodation is nice, the accessibility to public transport is amazing. The staff at the front desk is super helpful. Dea, Josh and Paramvir helped me out a lot. They provided with fans for the room and went out of their way to find us good fans. Overall stay experience on the campus is amazing, keep up the good work guys
Konrad Szaciłowski: Cosy place at UBC campus. Comfortable rooms, helpful staff, small private garden inside.
Natasha Monteiro: Currently riding out a heatwave without any fans or aircon in the 6-bedroom apartment.
Sassy Cee: The older building needs serious upgrading. The dorms are archaic, uninviting, drab. With all the construction it would be great it that building got a total overhaul.
Zoé Krisko: Sink was totally blocked when we arrived and beds were uncomfortable. It was difficult to communicate when there was an error. The 2 fridges were appreciated tho and kitchen well equipped in pans, but no baking trays or salt or pepper. Only one knife as well. The odour in the room was weird and we could hear every neighbouring noise. On a more positive, the rooms were spacious and the main entrance was beautiful and had lots of tables and couches to chill in.
Tenyom Tenye: I gave Walter gage ratings of 5 before but I now change my mind because of the sleeplessness night given to me today by some two front desk workers who just chose to be rude to me due to some misunderstanding created by one of them but yet they couldn’t acknowledged……I just felt it was their duty to clear the misunderstanding and give explanation mindfullyWell I understand when someone choose to work with a large group then they should be caring and kind
Kay Chang: Spacious well equipped clean
Catherine Rogers: Friendly and helpful staff here and they are well organized. We had a large suite with everything we needed for a short stay.

Zain Ul abdin: UBC well maintained campus
Royce Gaites: My partner lives here so I love it :)
debashis kayal: Eooms are spacious, well lit.It gets lot of bad rep due to:a) comparatively old (oldest residence)b) lot of garbage dumps surrounding ...also the architecture is different from other residences.
Allan Mills: Great place to live as a graduate student on campus. Less expensive than most places in Vancouver, especially off campus. Very fast internet speed when I lived there. Good communication between renters and administration.
Matthew Do: Beside the silverfish problem, the place is quite reasonably priced with ample space.
Ritika Jain: Loved living here! Awesome community, surroundings and events.
Zhi Qu: Perfect for engineering kids.
Jaivik Pathak: Great place for students housing. In the UBC campus.
