Tai Chi Vancouver: what do users think?
b chu: I have practiced martial arts for over 20 years and I understand what it means to be martial. My original thoughts on Tai Chi were based solely on watching people doing forms in the park. I thought that it was too soft and couldn’t possibly be an effective system of self-defence.When I turned 60 years old, I physically couldn’t take the rigors of a hard style martial art but I did want to continue learning and practicing the martial way. My wife encouraged me to try Tai Chi. I started to look at the different styles of Tai Chi and just happened upon Yuan Shi Tai Ji Quan Dao (“YSTJQD”). I know that a martial art school is only as good as the head instructor and after reading Master Liu’s bio I instantly knew that this was a school worth considering. If you are worried that this style is not martial, don’t be, it is martial in all respects. The first time Master Liu shows you a practical application and throws you, you will be convinced. But beyond the physical aspects of YSTJQD, the health benefits are hard to deny. Years of taking hard ukeme resulted in a bad back with a herniated disk between L5 & L6. This has plagued me since 2010. After 6 months of instruction from Master Liu and consistent home practice my back problem started to go away and after 12 months I no longer wake up in the middle of the night because of back pain or get up in the morning with a stiff back.Master Liu is an extremely patient and talented instructor. YSTJQD is an effective martial art and the health benefits are outstanding. In such a short period, Taiji has made a huge impact on my life both physically and mentally. I am back actively playing sports again and I feel much more focused and balanced. Finally, I would like to thank Master Liu for taking me on as a student and for his generosity.
Mo Sharon: I have been studying Tai Chi here for almost 3 years. It is the real Tai Chi I was always looking for. The postures are not just postures, they develop the interior Qi (energy) when practising. Master Liu is a very good Tai Chi teacher. And I already began to study pushing hands recently!
Keith Chan: I've been with Master Liu learning this unique ancient style of Taichi for many years. It has improved vastly my overall health and energy level. My sense of alertness of surrounding has also been greatly improved. If you're looking for an original ancient style of Taichi forms that have not been simplified, this is the place!
Omar KW Hung: I've been thinking about how to put this in a detailed but also concise manner for two weeks. Now forget it. I wouldn't have a chance to finish it if I do not plan to write a more than 200-page book. So here are the key things I learned from Master Liu, which I believe are very much beneficial to my health and life in all aspects.- First of all, I was so fortunate to find and learn a TRUE Tai Chi Chuan under Master Liu's instruction.- Master's recurring reminders on shoulders down and relaxed, core (dan tian) engaged and back, no weight put on knees (also behind toes), chest and chin in, etc. are those key factors that effectively correct my daily posture and movements.- Body relaxation and stress relief through the exercise of standing meditation is awesome. It does not only help me find a peaceful spot but also help loosen my tight muscles and reduce joint pains.- Whenever I was stuck somewhere, I told myself: be patient; be humble, do what I can do, and take it我2015年7月才開始和師父學習「原始太極拳道」,和其他師兄師姐比起來,這樣的年資是「菜」的可以了。
Paul Loo: I have learned (Yuan Shi style) Tai Chi with Master Liu for many years. It is a very good exercise for both my physical and mental health. I always practise Tai Chi meditation (as well as Xin Gong) to reduce my stress. Master Liu is an experienced gentle teacher and his teaching assistants are very friendly and helpful. It is a good opportunity to learn Tai Chi (Yuan Shi Style) in Vancouver.
rngan3739: It was the combination of fate and luck that through searching the Internet that I have found and met master Liu about ten years ago. At first I learned Xin Gong from Master Liu to cure many of my health problems, such as poor digestion and back pains. And then at later years I started to practice this unique style of TaiJi. Honestly to say if I have not practiced these two arts over the last ten years, I may have been wheel chair bounded by now because the severity of my back pain. Even through I have to spend more then fifteen hours each time to travel from Victoria to Vancouver for my tai chi practice, but it was well worth it.
Max Jiang: Real taichi, not same as some styles you can see in the park,Real Master, with real power.
M: I have been a student of Mr. Liu for many years now, he is indeed a very patient and knowledgeable Tai Chi teacher. Many of the students in this Tai Chi school have been with Mr. Liu for over 10 years, and they are all very passionate about this traditional art.
Kaiser Shen: I suffered from a chronic back pain that kept me up throughout the night. I was only in my 20's. Then I started practicing Taichi with Master Liu. After about 3 months of practicing, I could readily feel energy (Chi) flowing throughout my body. The back pain had subsided. Not only that, I started to feel healthier than before, both mentally and physically.Because I owe this to consistently practicing with Master Liu, I am filled with gratitude and a eagerness to share my learning experience with new students.Don't get me wrong, this is no walk in the park. If you are looking for fast and immediate improvements, this is not for you. Even tho it is likely to feel more relaxed, centered, and balanced after only one class, persistent practice is required to build better health long term. It took me at least 3 to 6 months to begin feeling a radical improvement in my body.If you are looking for a gentle way to improve your health, or is curious or fascinated with martial arts or Taichi, this is the place to start looking.
Teresa Wang: It's the best exercise I have ever tried and really worth to persist in. It helps with both my health and energy level.
Chang Jason: I feel very lucky to have found such a great Tai Chi master in Vancouver. I have learned Tai Chi from Master Liu for at least six years, during each class the master and the class assistants are all very patient and helpful. They help correct my body postures and improve my health greatly. And it is amazing to see it in person that Tai Chi Quan can really be applied as self defense, a true martial art. Thank you =)
Nina Lee: I've been keeping learning Tai Chi (Yuan Shi Style) with Master Liu for over 10 years long. In this unique Tai Chi School, numerous student's experiences have brought me unbelievable effects and facts that this Tai Chi is able to improve our health or more, from physical and mental health to even our standard of living. Fortunately, I'm one of those who have been given such lifetime benefits by means of participating this Tai Chi Class. Thanks. Master Liu.

Wing Chun Vancouver Martial Arts & Jeet Kune Do - Richmond Burnaby Classes: what do users think?
John Hamilton: Excellent for self defense. My 2 week old son was getting bullied in his day care, so I was looking for child martial arts classes. I found this place and around 3 weeks in, my son has now moved on to the Shaolin temple. He's now challenging all the martial arts masters across China.
Ruby Ahn: Casual, intimate, fun atmosphere. Great personalized instruction and straight forward, efficient training. Gained a lot from just one class.
donald beynon: I like it better cardio then the gym
Andrew Chen: Great time with Will today. Great at teaching the fundamentals of wingchun with applications to real life
calvin rahardjo: learn wingchun very difficult hopefully can beat somebody on the public place
Eric Rinne: I have been to 2 Sunday classes at Combative Wing Chun so far and I'm really enjoying learning this Martial Art. There is a lot to learn... many techniques which are taught in way that isn't just going through the motions. I plan to go regularly.
Getdeez Sacks (iLLaSacKsMusik): Been going for about a year now and I'm addicted to it! Very challenging but also very effective training. My only regrets are that I didn't start doing this earlier but as the saying goes you live and you learn
Christopher Lui: Exceĺlent teaching methods points are made very clear. Great exercise and it's a lot of fun!
Jose Soliman Garcia: Due to my previous (martial arts) training, I started out disbelieving many of the things I was being told, such as the ability to strike with a great deal of force using the Wing Chun punch or palm strike. Over time, these things have proven to be very true. The system is unique in the way striking force is developed using relaxation and technique rather than physical strength. It is also unique in the way threatening forces are absorbed rather than fought against.
Marvin Dela Cruz: I've been training BJJ for a couple of years and I was looking for a place where I can improve my striking skills and I wanted to learn Wing Chun. I tried out this place and it has been great so far. They're great both for beginners and for advanced martial artist like me. The trainers are all very friendly and knowledgeable. Everything is hands on. The place is nice and clean and the facilities and equipment are good.
Raymond John Lara: Undeniably the best!.. Easy to learn techniques. Great teacher and very understandable steps on how to learn. I'll definitely recommend this to my friends and relatives.
