Simply Sailing: what do users think?
Samantha Lingren: Did the four day intensive basic sailing. Right balance of study and hands on learning despite how much you had to learn. Very knowledgeable instructor with experience to go with instruction. Lots of time on a boat!
Jerris Spetifore: An excellent place to really try out sailing. I’d never been on a sailboat, but took the five day live-aboard and it was worth it. I learned a lot, the locations are beautiful, the experiences are real, and the ingredients provided for all meals and snacks are top notch. We had porpoises follow us along for a little bit, sea lions for another and the eagles were everywhere. I’ll make sure to use them for my next training!
Alex Vaskova: We knew absolutely nothing about sailing before we took Simply Sailing Basic Course. We spend 3 days on water with Janush and Doug, one two evenings with Marnie at class. Now I feel confident to be valuable crew member on boat and I’m excited to learn more! Thank you
Michael Darragh: Had a great experience Sailing in my Intermediate 5 day live a board class. Stephen provided excellent insight and informative instructions and boosted both my confidence and my knowledge. Also thanks Ian for your wonderful cooking!
Dave Nolte: Had a blast and learned a lot about sailing from the Basic Cruiser 4 day course. We were on the water way more than expected in a hands on learning environment. Excited to do my intermediate course here soon!
Carly Lawrie: I took their ROC(M) course last December and am still waiting for the results if I passed or not. I have sent after multiple emails and they do not respond. Would not recommend doing business with them !!
John Keating: Had a great time taking the Basic Cruise course even in the cold weather. Wanted to get prepared in advance for our spring and summer sailing. After my experience sailing in New Zealand 50 years ago, I was eager to get back on the water. I highly recommend regardless of age to maker the move to Simply Sailing.
Derek Schick: Did the 4 day intensive basic cruising. Jason was a great instructor, calm and confident and paced the course well for each student to get what they needed.
Subhash Bhushan: I just finished a 4-day intensive basic cruising course with Mike Laanela and Stephen DesRoches, and it was a great experience.Stephen was very knowledgeable, kind, encouraging, and hilarious! His mental mnemonics and stories from his extensive sailing past help you remember the important stuff quickly. His varied interests kept our conversations lively and entertaining while stressing the dangers of being on the water and tips for handling difficult situations. The impromptu race against Orpheus was the highlight of the course for me. It was great to see the camaraderie shared between Simply sailing instructors. My deepest thanks for a great initiation into my sailing journey! I look forward to going back for more courses with Simply Sailing.
Stephane Dresler: I just finished the 5 days live-aboard course for the Basic Cruising Standard with Simply Sailing. I had a great time. Despite an inconsistent wind, we were able to learn a lot. The instructor, Stephen Desroches, is very knowledgeable and he has a great personality. I am planning to take more courses with SS to hone my skills.
Trevor messent: Practical and informative, had one on one real sailing time with Mike the instructor ,good day out for sailing and docking experience. Learned some important points and gained some new, will comeback for more sailing tuition soon.
Colin Purcell: Fantastic course, instructor was awesome knew his stuff and was able to adjust his teaching to fit all of us. Great boat to learn on and food was awesome. (Ilan is a great chief 👍) Marnie was great to deal with, on some scheduling changes.Highly recommend!
Sarah Sage: Just finished a 5 day live aboard basic cruising course with Simply Sailing. Mike was our instructor. This was such a positive experience, wonderful opportunity to live aboard and experience a multi day cruise, staying on several islands in spectacular Howe Sound. Mike was a fantastic instructor, very calm, positive, creative, experienced and informed. he took his time with all crew members and gave us many opportunities to practice our skills. I look forward to learning more from Simply Sailing.
Nigel Allan: Did the Basic Crew certification. Was a great five days out. Very new to sailing and learned a lot. Our instructor Mike Laanela was great. Very positive and patient. Hoping to return for another course soon.
Paul Watson: If, like me, you know the basics of keel boat sailing but want to sharpen your skills so you act instinctively, without pausing to think first, Stephen DesRoches is the instructor you need. He has high standards and pushes you hard to meet them. I was exhausted at the end the five-day Intermediate course, but I’m a better sailor for it. Stephen has a seemingly endless mental library of real-life stories to stress why things have to be done right. They seared important lessons into my memory. At the end of each long day aboard the beautiful yacht Persephone, conversations on deck were entertaining and relaxing and we grew as a team. Simply Sailing’s provisioning was superb, so every meal was delicious. Eighteen knot winds added to the thrill. Now, when I’m on the water, watching and listening for the wind, Stephen’s voice will be in my head, reminding me that any number of hazards lurk beneath the waves, and that good seamanship matters. Deepest thanks for a life-changing trip!
A V: Just finished a 4 day intensive basic crew/cruising course with Jason. He is an awesome teacher. I started without knowing anything about sailing and by the end of the 4 days felt confident docking, anchoring, doing crew overboard drills, tying knots and naming/understanding many components of a sailboat. I strongly recommend reading the book before because the sessions are tiring. Jason uses every opportunity as a teaching moment, I was amazed at how easily I was able to pick up information and skills under his direction. He is a very talented teacher and if you have the opportunity to learn from him it is an incredibly rewarding experience.
Emma Tranminh: Did the 4 day intensive course. Had a great time, learned lots and will likely be back for more evening sails and maybe even the intermediate course later on. We had Marnie as an instructor and really enjoyed her. Course is not easy, definitely read the prep material. Would recommend.
Rae Kamstra: We just finished the Basic 5-day live aboard course in beautiful Howe sound and it was fabulous. Definitely need to read your course book, watch some of the videos and practice a few knots ahead of time to get the most from this course. The days were full of learning - both practical sailing drills as well as some study sessions to help us prepare for the test. Mike was an excellent instructor - very patient and he inspired a lot of confidence in his ability to teach us what we needed to know with his extensive sailing experience. Definitely recommend this course!
Edi Sirotic: My wife and I took a couple of courses with Simply Sailing, the most recent one being VHF Radio course. We thoroughly enjoyed the course and learned a lot. Marnie as our instructor delivered the content in interesting and competent way, so we now feel confident in applying the knowledge learned. We have already signed up for intermediate cruising course and recommend Simply Sailing to anyone looking to learn practical sailing skills and be safe on the water.
Jp Mccarthy: Marnie Brag was an incredible instructor. She is relatable, knowledgeable and fun. Her experience is complemented by her skill and passion for sailing. We had a great balance of fun and intensity. I highly recommend simply sailing.
Josef Loew: I have intermediate sailing courses from 30 years ago as well as a fair amount of boating experience and needed to get an ICC for boating in Europe. The course was more useful than I could have imagined. Simply Sailing put me thru 2 full days of sailing and I was lucky to have heavy weather and seas as well. I found the sailing days very useful. Repeated practice of maneuvers, heavy weather sailing, heaving to, man-over -boards, extensive docking in a variety of situations, discussion of recommended reactions in a variety of scenarios. Even the knots practice was very useful for learning the proper procedures and uses of knots I tied many times before. The standardization of commands was very useful and I’ll use it with crew going forward. Will avoid much potential confusion. It was great having my wife along for the sailing practice. We are better and more confident sailors now and have a clear sailing command dialogue between us.

Vancouver Water Adventures LTD.: what do users think?
Dana Houston Jackson: So good doing it again on Saturday with my husband. Exciting, fun, beautiful, safe and great tour guide. Using same group 2 more times.
David o brien: Second time I took the tour and was just as fantastic as the first. Amazing way to spend a few hours and the team and guides at Vancouver Water Adventures are 10/10
Soumya Bangera: Amazing experience, our captain Paul was very knowledgeable.
something appropriate: Was an amazing experience Simon was such a great tour guide He made sure we all had fun but still learned about all the spots he showed us and even moved the boat around when I wanted a picture so our group could get the water fall in the back. Such a sweet guy definitely deserves a raise ( he’s cute too lmao)
Urnmu81: Would highly recommend it to those who want to see the views of the city harbor as well gain some of the history. The trip then extends itself into some very beautiful views outside the city in a very rustic way, much of which you may not see traveling in a car or hiking on a local trail. Our tour guide Paul was both engaging and passionate. It was above and beyond our expectation. Well done!
Olga Goyzueta: 100% recommends these tours, professional and safe. We enjoyed all the time.
Nancy Y: Had lots of fun! Very informative and considerate at the same time. We were a group of 8. Our ages ranging from teens to 55. All had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the tour. We got to see some Seals and Eagles and the boat ride itself was exhilarating! If you want to feel like you are flying on the ocean, sit in the front of the boat.
Jessica Jones: Justin and Isaac were fantastic guides! Justin was knowledgeable about the Vancouver sights and the machines, and didn't hesitate to let 'er rip when we wanted to go max speed on the waves! It was quite safe and very well organized. My speed-loving mother had a blast rocketing across the surf and catching air - she said this was her favorite watersport experience in all 7 continents!
Shraddha Patel: Max and Scott were amazing tour guides we really enjoyed the jet ski tour with them! Even in rocky weather it was truly a blast. Cant wait to come back with friends!
Narowe Crivede: It was Fantastic and amazing with Simon as our guide he was very friendly and very understanding with senior people like me and my friends, you are the best Simon waiting patiently when we were the last one to disembark the boat. I will recommend this to my friends.
Mustafa Al Balushi: Greg is an awesome guy
Jon Patrick: Marvelous place to explore Vancouver
Dave Romani: The boat tour was really good! Greg (our Captain) was awesome! This is our second time taking this tour... although we highly recommend this tour itself, the restaurant on Bowen Island wasn't great! Before your tour you have to place your dinner order... all good, until you get to the restaurant and realize you still have to wait another hour for your dinner. That's a three hour window between the time you ordered and you meal. The group we were with was super nice so most of that time was eaten up getting to know each other, not eating. When we did get our meal, we had to eat and run! This is the same problem we ran into on our first tour with two years ago.Having worked in the restaurant business for almost twenty years I understand the in's/out's of the business. Waiting for good food can be worth the wait, but my wife's pizza was burnt, the pasta was bland with no cheese, and we were told it would be another hour for anything else if we ordered it when we sat down; even salad or bread! We should have ordered it anyway as our meals took 51 minutes to get out to us anyway. Even the server didn't know that our tour included a beverage? I'm told that 'things' take a little longer on the island.... that I believe after our experience, but three hours???? So we didn't get back on time, but Greg was very good at history and making it interesting. Thanks Greg!So realize that this is a likely situation to happen if you take this tour... longer than expected, but still a good tour.
Silvia Koten: We had so much fun on the Granite Falls Tour! The weather was amazing and Paul couldn't have been a better Captain. Thank you for this unforgettable experience.
Afsaneh mojtabanezhad Shariatpanahi: We had an amazing time and far exceeded our expectations. We booked a Kayak tour and our tour leaders ( Anja & Katie) were so nice, freindly and caring and this made our trip much more wonderful.Reza
Cina Rin: Amazing experience, and equally amazing staff!! Our tour guides were absolutely fantastic and were SO. FUNNY.— They were extremely friendly and gave us plenty of ideas on where to explore next!! I cannot recommend taking their tour enough, we’ll definitely be returning here to check out their other activities next time we come down!! Graydon, Braedon, and Greg were so cool and it was a pleasure to have them as our tour guides :)) Thank you for the wonderful memories!!
Nick: This was such an amazing experience! My partner and I went on one of the boat tours and it was incredible. All of the sights were top notch, the ride was comfortable and so much fun. One of the best parts was our tour guide Graydon who was informative and hilarious throughout the trip. I would definitely go again because these guys did an amazing job!
ER W: Captain Steve was okay
Youness Ettaï: What an amazing experience we had this morning ! Everything was perfection. Thanks to the best english guide ever ! Between Sea and Mountain, you feel the nature all around you.
Chinweike Orji: SO MUCH FUN!We had gone for kayaking but after seeing they offered seadoos there was no turning back! Everyone was so patient and even though they were busy, they took time to answer all our questions and set us up.They provide EVERYTHING, and it is pricier than I'd like, but 100% fun. I hope to try it again.About the seadoos: they were well maintained, and clean. Each one sat 2 people, and went up to 60 something km/h. There's tons of storage in the seadoo itself. Again, she's pricey, they're also a deposit so just a heads up!Big thank you to Darren who was so patient with us and was so kind with us newbies!
Terri Nordstrom: Great way to see Vancouver from the water !

North Shore Ski & Board: what do users think?
Catrin Butler: Great service 👍
Gerry Duke: I went there looking for help to repair my telemark skis which is not easy to find today. But they ditected me to someone that could and I really appreciate that they were very nice they saved me a ton of money as I would have had to buy a hole new set of equipment that would have cost me 1500 to 2,000 dollars. I did not go in their store before this, looks like a good place to shop for outdoor equipment, I will be back for sure
shawn shergill: I have been there few times now they are very consistent with excellent service and knowledge of their product.
Paul Doig: Amazing service at North Shore Ski and Board. Possibly the best ski store around (worldwide - big claim but true). I have travelled far and wide and always come back to NSSB.Bought an amazing setup of Elan 106 Ripstick Black Edition 180cm with Aramada Strive 14 binding (in sand colour). Bought online and was in Vancouver from the Island. Brett and the team turned around the install of the bindings in 25min to accommodate my travel back to the Island. Amazing.Thx for having the best ski shop and best service anywhere.
Natalia Tape: I couldn't recommend North Shore Ski & Board more for all your mountain needs! I was thoroughly impressed with the service Jordan, Heather & Kayla provided to me while purchasing my new snowboard. They offered individualized, friendly service, anticipating my needs and going out of their way to find me a suitable board, both in style and price. I live far away from the store, and each of these associates took the time to remember me & my requests, call me on the phone to check in, and create a smooth/seamless experience. I felt like everyone was working hard to please me as the customer, and their knowledge base on mountain equipment is second to none. I will be going back for any further supplies without hesitation! Kudos to the NSKB team. 10/10 recommend.
Yusuke Kowalewski: Staff were kind, and the snowboard waxing service is quick
albert: Employees were absolutely wonderful, 10/10 would recommend!
Enno S: Cheaper and better than up on Grouse Mountain. Forgot I brought my board there for 2,5 weeks, picked it up with no additional charge. 44 CAD for waxing and sharpening.
Kyle Gill: Great service. Brett help fix my splitboard binding.
Krista Greig: Only good things to say about North Shore Ski and Board! I've been helped by several staff members with buying boots, getting custom footbeds made, and having bindings mounted - all the staff have been super helpful, friendly, and knowledgable. NSSB is my go-to for all things skiing-related and it's where I send my friends when they're looking for gear.
Samantha Smith: I bought new touring boots here, and worked with Simon. He was so great! Took a ton of time with me. Really listened to what I needed and went above and beyond! Highly recommend
Walker: They are wicked friendly and wicked helpful. Big shout out to Arsenio, Brett, James, and Adam.So I need to double down on the recommendation for this place. I've been back three times to have my touring boots adjusted. It's been inexpensive and the service has been very insightful each time. I didn't buy my boots from them but you can sure as hell bet that I'll buy the next pair from them.Bought a pair of downhill boots from these folks this season. The service and advice was absolutely outstanding. I'd be tempted to pick up a pair of skis next year if I don't find any amazing deals at the SAR sale.
Elly Akhoundi: I recently visited North Shore Ski & Board to purchase new ski gear and I had an exceptional experience! I was lucky enough to have Simon help me with my fitting and he was absolutely fantastic. His knowledge of the products and attention to detail was impressive and he worked tirelessly to ensure that I found the perfect fit. Believe me, just trust him although you may think there is absolutely no way the size he is offering the right one for you!The entire team at North Shore Ski & Board was welcoming and made me feel comfortable throughout the whole process. They are experts at finding the right gear for each individual and I was impressed by their level of professionalism and expertise.I can confidently say that my skiing experience has been taken to a whole new level thanks to Simon!I would highly recommend this store to anyone looking for a quality product and exceptional customer service. Thank you, Simon, and the entire team at North Shore Ski & Board!
Marta C: 100% the best shop to get your ski gear. Max is the best sales person! He is a pro and he helped me find the most comfortable boots!!!! Thanks guys :)
golsa mozoun: I went into the store and the staff were so meanI tried some clothes on and then put them on the hanger right in front of the fitting roomsThen this blonde girl asked me in a very bad manner like I wanted to rob them “where did you put the stuff”She then asked me several times to leave and asked me are you waiting for somethingI have never been treated like this in any other stores
Harper Klusman: Best customer service ever! I’ve got weird legs which makes finding good ski boots impossible; I wasn’t sure I was ever going to be able to go skiing again. Simon and the North Shore Ski and Board team went above and beyond to craft an extremely unique pair of custom ski boots. Would highly recommend this place. Just finished my first day back skiing with my new boots and it was AMAZING. Thanks Simon!
Allan Furlong: An amazing experience! Late season, we hoped to get used kids ski boots. The service and knowledge of equipment was beyond what I've ever seen. We got what we needed, with adjustments an no extra cost, advice on future equipment etc. We left with smiles at the friendliness of the staff and the ease of the purchase. Thanks!
Mackenzie Cromie: Max was fantastic at putting in all the effort during my partners fitting, shared so many interesting facts. Went above an beyond to make sure we were happy with the investment. Will definitely be returning!
Patsy Hallimond: Great friendly staff, clean and great consultation from arsenio on boots!
Paul Boenisch: The very best place in the lower mainland to outfit the whole family for skiing, boarding and even summer sports like kite boarding. Huge store, great clothing, accessories and knowledgeable friendly staff. Great kids program too for kids that grow out of ski gear every year, used gear and you get credit back for returning your used boots and skis etc. Check it out.
Paul C: Brilliant service. I came in for an adjustment on boots NOT bought from them. Dillon was first class - quick, knowledgeable, precise and easy to deal with. He tweaked a pinch point on the top of my foot. Very little wait time and price was well below what I expected to pay. Any issues I'm told to swing back in, no charge & they'll get it right for me. Very impressed. Thanks guys.
