tim c: To be more specific with my review:The previous owner, John Montgomery and his wife left a few years ago. It used to feel like a family owned business but as a student, you'll really just feel like a number. If you want to feel ignored then this is the school for you! If you want to bring up a concern with the CFI or the "assistant cfi" good luck because theyre apparently "too busy" which just tells me that they have wayy too many students!! I would stay clear and look elsewhere if you want a positive learning environment!This school used to be good but like others have said, it's declined ever since new management took over (around 2018ish). The clerks at the front desk aren't very helpful either. I got my PPL there but wouldn't go back.

Alissa Hassan: If you want to be MILKED for money and hours and not get your license for a good year and half and help your instructor get pic hours and have them over charge you for briefs they didn’t do then this is the place to be!But wait it doesn’t stop there, the instructors may in some cases even physically and verbally assault you in the cockpit (speaking from personal experience) and make you aimlessly build dual hoursBut guess what the cfi knows but does nothing about itThey just care about money and the instructors see you as their personal atms.Also honourable mention goes to their dispatch staff straight up rude and act like they run the place (they’re students at the school as well but put themselves above the other students like they’re higher class citizens of the school) its as if they get paid to goof around and attend to their personal agendas rather than attend to the students need or address the concerns of potential customers.You can stay up till 12 am to book your desired aircraft a month prior only for dispatch to change it last minute because they or one their friends want to fly that specific aircraft and be put on standby and believe me (as a former student) it was hardly ever changed cuz of maintenance or for a flight test.In conclusion, yes they are a really big and famous school but dont live up to their previous reputation at all they have a plethora of issues but it would make the review far too long so save your money and time and look into other BETTER schools. I absolutely do not recommend. I would give it zero stars but they don’t have that option.PS before they comment this is false claims made by a competing school id like to say, yes this is a burner account because i would like to remain anonymous as i was victim of said assault at this school but will gladly name check if need be.
Adam Robertson: This is a very professional and wonderful place to do Flight Training. Everybody is helpful, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. They have a well maintained large fleet of Cessna 172s and 152s. Looking forward to fly the Cirrus this summer. I would highly recommend them to anyone that's looking for flight training.
Poul Go: I finished all my pilot training including instructor's rating at Pro. Extremely grateful of my time here with them, from being a student pilot to becoming a flight instructor. They molded me as a person and as pilot throughout those years, and easily were some of my most memorable flying experiences. When I moved on to become a Medevac First Officer in Manitoba, I can finally attest that the IFR training I received from them was top notch. Never a doubt it had the branding of "Pro IFR". Pro has some of the best methods, lessons and instructors in the industry. It helped me transition and become a good First Officer, hand flying a Metroliner Aircraft. I will be forever grateful. Those in the know, train with Pro!

Zafrul Siddique: It used to be a good place for learning to fly, BUT……It quickly deteriorates since 2018. The dispatch at this place have way too much power, beyond that all what they do is gossip, judging students at the back, and some instructors do not play very positive roles here, including overcharging students on ground, play preferences over certain students.A portion of students, such as Louise, finished all his trainings in really short time, where all other student who started way earlier than him, cannot even get a training slot at all!The management team serious have to do something, the dispatch has really messed everything up.

Gregory Kehm: We hired Coastal Drone to train and prepare five of our staff to achieve the advance drone piloting license. The training format included a structured curriculum consisting of weekly self directed videos, and regular virtual meetings for coursework review, Q&A, and discussion leading up to the in-person testing phases. Coastal Drone was highly responsive to our needs in co-developing a curriculum that worked for us. Ian Wills delivered a well paced, responsive, supportive and by all measures, successful course that displayed his expertise, skill...and humour!
Graham Hafey: This is a great online course. I was sceptical at first due to the number of courses out there. The quizzes after each section and practice exams were extremely helpful, as were the video presentations. All very effective in learning all about drones and getting licensed.

B L: ***UPDATE**Below is my original review [which was 2*]_ within few hours Coastal Drone phoned me to discuss the course and the online exam. After pleasant conversation some issues were identified as to possible reasons why the material on the test was not in the course. it was amazing to have a call so quickly and such a positive conversation! They truely do want to continualy improve and give the best possible training. Only reason for 4 star was to identify to future customers that at this point there is some problems with the course material and to carefully read all the supplemental marterial before you take the exam. Good job Coastal Drone!!___________I took the Basic Course and redid it muliple times until i could make sense out of everything they were saying. I redid the practice tests more than 20 times until I could 'consistantly' get 100% every time by understanding the answers ...not by memorizing them [I used Google many times to find explanations]. I passed the test with 80% but ONLY with the help of 90 minutes and Google. I have never felt more unprepared for a test. By far the majority of the questions were never covered in the course, I felt blindsided taking the online exam. Yes, I have my license but no, I don't feel like I deserved it. The course was a nice starting point but did not prepare me for the online exam. Unfortunately you can't see the online questions you got wrong so you can go back and learn from them

Course was well put together and didn't feel like a boring slide show presentation.i look forward to the other courses they offer as I get more comfortable with flying.

Blaine: Took the basic course and I thought the course itself was really well done and easy to follow. But I found myself getting very frustrated when doing the practice questions as a lot of what is asked in the practice exam wasn't covered at all or briefly glossed over with little detail. I will continue to go over the practice exam until I feel more confident but this doesn't give me a lot of hope for the real test.
John Greaves: I recommend this course. Learned a lot and did it at my own pace. Felt pretty confident going into the exam and was not disappointed. Went from knowing very little and not even knowing where to start to having the information to pass the test and to knowing where to find what I did not have. Chris Dewhurst: Would highly recommend the Coastal Drone course! Passed the exam first time, which would not have happened if I had just tried to prepare solo. The exam is fairly serious business and not something you're going to pass with just some general knowledge. The course was clearly presented with a bit of humor and the provided practice exams were invaluable. I'm deducting 1 star for what seemed to be a fairly big hole in the coverage, that being aviation chart reading. This was not really covered in the course itself but fortunately came up in the practice exams so I was forewarned to find more info. It is definitely a topic on the TC exam. I imagine they may fix this up over time.I've seen some negative reviews in the past. In fairness to Coastal Drone, this exam is pretty tough and covers all kinds of "remotely piloted aircraft", not just your typical quadcopter. A course that could guarantee that you pass first time would probably take months and cost a lot more. If you don't have any background with this kind of stuff, you may have to give it a few tries and do a bit of extra studying. Once you do pass, you'll know all kinds of cool stuff to impress your friends with!
Ron B: I found the Basic Drone Course very well laid out and easy to understand; can’t argue with the results either. After I got comfortable with the practice exams the Transport Canada exam was a breeze.Should I end up needing to upgrade, I know what company I’ll be coming back to for prep. Highly recommended!
Insight Visual Solutions: I enrolled in the Advanced Pilot Bundle with Coastal Drone and was beyond impressed with the learning experience. The material far exceeded my expectations and ultimately prepared me to confidently take the TC exam with a knowledge base that not only expanded my capabilities as a RPAS pilot but also gave me a better overall understanding of: Weather, SOPs, Charts and the plethora of other information that I think everyone should be familiar with when sharing the airspace with planes, helicopters etc. I highly recommend this Course to anyone taking their RPAS career seriously.
Stephen A MacDonald: My overall experience with Coastal Drone Co. exceeded expectations, from the reasonable price for the online learning to the lecture format using video and also the end of class notes which I used as homework, to the preparedness of being ready to write the exam. I went through the material in the morning one day and by lunchtime I was a certified basic pilot. You'll be ready when you've done the course and you can hold it for reference for a year I believe. I barely passed the TC exam with the min 65% but then I went back over it by picking and choosing video topics as a refresher when I saw how low my mark was. I've always been a bit of a Maverick though.
Thebeef Onthestreets: The way Coastal Drone Co. has set up the learning environment is awesome. You can learn at your own pace, when ever and where ever if you're using your smartphone or tablet.I am new to drones and I really enjoyed taking the Sub 250g and then the Basic Course. I passed the Basic exam on my first attempt! I feel comfortable and confident that when I go out flying that I am flying safely and not breaking any laws. I plan on taking a few of the other courses they have and the recency in 2 years.They do a great job breaking down the important information and providing practice exams so you too can pass the Transport Canada exam. As long as you're focused and invest your time you should have no problem passing the TC exam using the services provide by Coastal Drone Co. !
Harry Nott: If you think you’ll take the basic course, study what they teach and pass the Transport Canada exam……. not so. When I wrote their practice exam and realized so many of the questions they asked were not even in their material, I knew I was in trouble. Long story short I went on line and got enough info to pass. Out of the 35 Transport Canada questions maybe 4 were related to what I was taught by Coastal Drone. Total waste of time and money. Come on you guys!!! Do Better!
Karl Blattmann: The course was really professionally done, enjoyable, and included a lot of "good to know" information beyond what I needed to pass the exam. I passed the exam with 97% correct on my first try, and that's in large part due to the thorough training I received from Coast Drone.
Richard Juren: I really enjoyed Kate's presentations and, after going through all the Coastal Drone material and practice twice over an extended period of time, I had no trouble getting the Basic RPAS certificate in 1/3 of the allotted time for the exam. Thank you for the prep!
Rob “HeavyBoom” Hussey: Last year I challenged the online advanced operations exam and passed it (barely) its a tough test and so I figured I better prepare for the flight review.. I took Coastal's Flight Review Prep Coarse which also included the cost of the flight review itself and had great success.. my reviewer Ken was friendly and personable, he answered any questions I had and made the whole process fairly simple. I highly recommend.
Paul Sinkevich: I took the course over a number of months, then crammed for about 12 hours wrote my Advanced test and passed the first time! Not sure why others would say this course didn't help...it had it all...thanks
