Connie Ono
Connie Ono: If this is your first time visiting Vancouver, Miku would be my top recommendations on your itinerary list for places to eat. Now, this isn't your typical sushi restaurant, in fact, I would consider this to be fine dining and here's why. When it comes to Japanese food, presentation is the most important next to customer service level, and they are bang on. I absolutely love how intricate their sushi layered to simplicity on a plate. Reminds me of a zen garden. The waiters/ waitress' are knowledgeable of their dishes being served and super friendly! Dishes are, at minimum $20, but the portions are decently sized. (Anything with Wagyu will always be expensive). They do offer gluten -free and vegetarian dishes and non alcoholic drinks.(I had their Shiso Nojito and it was the most refreshing non-alcoholic I've ever had. Not too sweet either).Overall, I would highly recommend it for first time travellers to Vancouver. It's absolutely a beautiful place to dine in!Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free available
Ayushi
Ayushi: I loved this place! Sushi was so fresh and flavourful. Our waiter was so kind and informative, he really knew the menu and provided great recommendations. Keith C
Keith C: We had the 7 course Kaiseki dinner and were very impressed by the taste of most of the dishes. Also, the portion is very large and we found it quite heavy.Favourites are the insanely tender fillet, the Hokkaido scallop, oyster, and fresh sashimi.Few of the menu items were a miss, such as the Uni (Sea urchin) which we found not fresh at all. And sake pairing was late for one of the courses.Overall, this was a delicious meal and definitely recommended. We would have liked some lighter dishes that were not fatty-protein-focused, or slightly less portion for lower price (like the omakase platter at the end). Bring a large appetite if you are ordering this tasting menu!
Junky Mailhai
Junky Mailhai: For the price, I thought that it’s an okay place. The food is fresh and the service is good. I didn’t love the sushi. It was good but not amazing. At CAD $50 per person, I felt that it could be a bit more than what it was. The salmon sushi and the soba noodles were tasty.Recommended dishes Sushi …More

t t: Sushi in Vancouver is an obvious choice and I visited Miku recently for the first time. Due to its popularity we weren’t able to get a reservation for dinner but came as a walk in at lunch time!! Great service and atmosphere, views right in the harbour. If you love sushi you 100% need to go here.

adam finch: I love their sushi, and I think it's quite high quality. But for many menu items the cost is unjustifiable. I just spent $20 for karaage, which was just 4 small pieces of chicken, the equivalent of less than two chicken thighs. It tasted nice but there's no chicken on the planet worth that much.

Marcus L: Suika Japanese Restaurant promises a true Japanese experience with its delightful, flavorful dishes and ebullient staff. The salmon pressed sushi was exceptional, offering a fresh, oceanic thrill, while the garlic edamame and corn cake showcased their culinary artistry in texture and taste. Their birthday celebration, featuring a surprise dimming of lights and a heartwarming song, added a personal touch. Finally, the matcha brulee dessert stole the show with its perfectly balanced sweetness. In summary, Suika is a culinary gem, offering an authentic and memorable Japanese dining experience, deserving of the highest recommendations.

Tsomo: I always walk down this street, but I just decided to try out Miko for the first time. I don’t know why it took me this long, but I’m so glad I did.First off, this restaurant is Japanese owned, and you can tell. The culture and atmosphere is very vibrant and cozy here. We loved the wooden interior with the small booths and the casual hung up autographs/images on the walls. For food; as beef teriyaki don lovers we decided to try out Miko’s beef don. It wasn’t the usual beef teriyaki don you’d receive when ordering at any other restaurant. The meat had a different cut and it was throughly coated in sauce. It was amazing. Even the beans sprouts underneath the meat was so good. Usually in other restaurants the beansprouts seems like it’s just added on to make the beef look fuller and there’s no effort into making them flavourful. However, when we received this dish it was great. It tasted like it was meant to be there, not just as a side thought. We loved Miko and we’ll definitely come back to try more of the menu. Thank you for having us ~ 🙏🏼Parking: downtown street parking or parking lots

I had a veggie combo, with a big healthy salad, agedashi tofu, and brown rice rolls. Gabrielle Price
Gabrielle Price: I have been a patron at shizenya - at their first location for a very long time. It’s one of my favourite places to get sushi now that I live on the North Shore. It’s a long trek for me to get there today I dined in and was greeted promptly by a very nice server, even when I left the kitchen person chased me down to make sure that I got my bag. My problem is not with the staff , I usually don’t complain, but today the yam roll was not edible, very soggy, stick wet rice and over fried scraps of yam. quite frankly it was disgusting. When I finally got the courage to complain about my sushi roll. She offered me a discount after I had only in two pieces and they gave me 10% to me. This is very tacky when you know that your product wasn’t up to standard and you still try to sell it to somebody for full price. This to me as an unfortunate business transaction on their part and definitely does not make me feel like a valued customer or guest
Monique Hutchinson
Monique Hutchinson: Loved it. Fresh delicious sashimi - we had the chirashi bowl, came with tonnes of brown rice and the sashimi was so so fresh. They have a relationship with the aquarium too to ensure sustainable fish is used. Lovely fragrant loose leaf jasmine tea too. Restaurant was quiet and had a very relaxed vibe - it was a Monday evening. Recommend!

Audrey T: Stopped by for a quick bite for lunch downtown! The sushi is very healthy here as they use brown rice. It’s a bit on the pricier side compared to other cheaper sushi restaurants around town (my two rolls cost about $15) but I always feel healthy and not rushed when I eat here.I got the dynamite roll and negitoro roll. The dynamite roll was tasty with the prawn tempura and loaded with lots of veggies. The negitoro roll tasted fresh but I expected the green onions mixed with the fish and not just added on top like a garnish.

Winnie: I live beside this restaurant and always walk past it, it does get busy during evening hours, so you know they’re good!:)Everything tasted really good and fresh, except it is quite pricey. If you’re looking for sushi on budget, this wouldn’t be your place to try. But if you want some good quality sushi then yes, please try this place.

Roman Ranallo
Roman Ranallo: We're from out-of-town, so we scoured Reddit to try and find the best hidden gem sushi spot and it did not disappoint. Really simple mom-and-pop joint, with great service and it was cool watching the staff interact with and catching up with the local regulars. Their take on a dynamite roll was delicious, and the wild sockeye salmon was incredibly fresh. As we were walking away talking about how glad we were that we chose that spot, a server literally ran across the street to track us down because we had forgotten a bag there. It was an amazing gesture and we'll definitely return next time we're in town.

james culpepper: Went here on a Friday night and loved the service and the owners. We had the local Uni which was outstanding, had several orders of it actually. The gals taking care of us were wonderful, very very helpful with the menu as it was our first time in, we will definitely be back. The menu is diverse and their freshness is top-shelf. They could upgrade their Sake offerings which was the only negative I could think of.I rarely get five stars for a restaurant but this place is deserving of it.

Min Lee: The service and quantity was good, but i was quite disappointed with the quality of the sushi particularly with the rice. Ordered the Kaide assorted sushi menu and the shari in the sushi was cold to the touch like it came out of a fridge or a pre-made refrigerated sushi bento. I dont understand how the rice could be cold when it is made to order.

The chefs knife skills are immaculate. The black cod is EVERYTHING. I considered a divorce the day my partner ate my last piece of black cod. I'm drooling just thinking about it.
Ariel Desrochers
Ariel Desrochers: Happened upon this place while walking in Mount Pleaseant. Hands down, best sushi I have had. Very nice servers.
Victor Yang
Victor Yang: Very high quality authentic sushi place run by Japanese. I find their prices to be more competitive relative some other authentic Japanese run sushi places, which are pushing $5 per Toro nigiri (I use Toro because come on, who doesn't like it?). As of this date, Toshi's Toro nigiri is $3.50 per piece. They also offer some other unique fish such as Kanpachi, Sawara, among others. The rice is top notch and fish is very high quality. Service is very good as you would expect from any Japanese run places (they only hire Japanese waitresses). Be prepared to wait though, as it is a popular place (for good reasons!).

Spencer Phillips
Spencer Phillips: Three of us went on a week day and we got lucky to get a table in 10 mins. They started lining up afterwards. My friend said there is always a line up. The fish was fresh, service was good, n prices were still decent. It was a very good value for what we ate. When you walk in they point out the specials on the wall. I ordered the Sayori Sashimi 4 pieces for $23 phfft i wont do that again. So tiny the pieces so not worth it. If we didnt order this plus another $12 sake n $5 beer that we didnt need (alcoholic peep just orders up n tries to make you drink because he is an alcohol pusher) so take $40 off the bill it would have been $160 for 3 people. All 3 of us thought it was overall a very good quality sushi restaurant. No frills, no over the top take a picture presentation, just basic fresh sushi. The 15 piece assorted sashimi plate was only $33 a bargain! Ours came w butter fish. So good. Also they serve a califonia roll w real crab for 10 bucks. We tried the pineapple n passion fruit ice cream. It was very yummy! The pudding was meh dont bother. We would come here on a regular basis if there was no line up lol. This place is very small with limited seating.Parking: Parking is tough limited pay street parking but off street neighborhood is permit parking so read the signs carefully.

Kristy Chen
Kristy Chen: Officially my favourite sushi restaurant in Vancouver. The quality of the sushi here is amazing and the price is very reasonable. Their miso glazed white fish is to die for and they sometimes have specific ingredients straight from Japan. The ratio of rice and fish for the sushi is also perfect. I was highly impressed by the food here. The service is really good, although the restaurant itself is pretty small. They do not recommend group sizes larger than 4 people and it may be an extra long wait, I would advice to call ahead if you are visiting in a large group. Be warned that it is first come first serve and they do not take reservations. There is typically a wait to go in regardless of which evening you visit and I have had to wait an hour to get in. Probably one of the only restaurants where I’m willing to wait an hour to eat at. Last call is at 8:30pm and if there is a line ahead of you, they might not let you sign up at that time.

Carol Lin: It was a long wait but well worth it! Tried this place based on recommendations and everything we ordered was delicious! We got the agedashi tofu, king salmon, scallop rolls, miso soup, tuna and salmon sashimi, real crab California rolls, Toro rolls, seafood gyoza. The fish was melt in your mouth good, so fresh. The gyozas had full pieces of shrimp and other goodies. The real surprise was their BBQ garlic sauce squid. It was so tender, amazing flavour, and better than any squid we've had. Finished it off with some Japanese pudding which hit the spot.To top off the amazing food, all of the stuff were so genuinely kind. This place is phenomenal, if we lived here we'd be regulars.
Lai S
Lai S: One of the best authentic Japanese Restaurants in Vancouver. This small restaurant can get quite busy as soon as it’s doors open. They don’t take reservations, it’s only first come first serve. A lineup quickly forms during the first couple hours of opening outside the restaurant, that’s how you know this place is the spot. I recommend coming a few minutes early before they open to reserve a spot and to avoid waiting.I’ve been coming to Toshi for years now, and it never disappoints. The fish is always fresh, and I love that have daily specials that change every now and then. The staff/servers are always friendly and attentive. Definitely do check this restaurant out if you appreciate delicious sushi, and authentic japanese dishes.

Paul Rondeau
Paul Rondeau: Incredibly fresh sushi, great service, unique daily specials and a very authentic Japanese dining experience. 5 stars all around! It’s certainly a “hole in the wall” restaurant but these are usually the best hidden gems in the city, and they offer top notch sushi compared to the plethora of other sushi joints in town. My recommendation, if you’re planning to dine in, is arrive by 5:30pm to put your name on the waiting list because it gets very busy and there aren’t many tables available. Takeout is a good backup option here but you’ll miss out on the overall ambience and dining experience. The Japanese sushi chefs know what they’re doing, and all of the food is served the second it’s ready. If you’re a sashimi or nigiri fan, try their blue fin tuna nigiri and the uni nigiri! We found their sockeye salmon sashimi was super fresh as well. Can’t wait to return here.

Sushi Bar Maumi: what do users think?
Caroline Saunders
Caroline Saunders: Was super excited to try the omakase at Maumi, it’s been on my restaurant list for years, but was left underwhelmed. Very cute intimate location off Bute St. Fish was fresh and delicious, however rice was overcooked and soft. No top up of ginger was offered. I accidentally spilled my miso as soon as it was placed, which was cleaned, but not replaced. I maybe had 2 sips of what was remaining. There are only 12 pieces of sushi to enjoy + the miso soup. You will not be full. Option to order more food is available (which we did) but bill is shoved to you as soon as you’ve enjoyed your last bite. There are lots of great omakase spots in Vancouver, but this one would I would not go back to.

B W
B W: The fish was yummy but the chef needs a personality transplant. Extremely tense and non-joyful experience. Felt very rushed and honestly for the price can't the chef make an effort to make people feel welcome? At least explain what fish you are serving - create some environment and positive energy. We won't be back.
Joseph Song
Joseph Song: As of previous sushi chef, I understand chef pride. But that pride should head towards to customers, not chef himself. When i ask chef, what is this nigiri, he just said look at the menu and pointed out on wall where they wrote down Japanese in English. And he didn’t even try to explain what that means As like we should all understand what that means. Okay, let’s say chef is not talkative one and he is very careful for food cleaness, so he tries to speak less. But when my friend asked for less rice on nigiri, chef says “oh then you cannot order additional nigiri after set menu”. First of all, omakaze is tailored and personalized sushi experience, not just eat whatever chefs make. I understand nigiri is harmony of seafood and shari(sushi rice), but everyone has different tastes. If we just want unified menu, we wouldn’t go for omakaze. We can go to just sushi restaurants with better deal in that price. As of omakaze, i will be honest, this restaurant price is reasonable, but don’t expect actual “omakaze”. There is no difference in regular sushi restaurants except chef just puts unified nigiri right in front of you without any explanation or talking. Oh, actually he will just say exact same word on menu which is written on wall. When chef’s pride is over customer’s’ experience, either that restaurant should provides remarkable food to shut customers up or restaurant will slowly goes down. I think this restaurant is getting closer to later.
Brent Freborg
Brent Freborg: An absolutely awesome introduction into omakase service. The price is worth the experience. Because you are really paying for the experience and stellar quality ingredients. You have to book online and make a reservation. And I would recommend doing this well in advance especially if your party is large.I would highly recommend this spot if you are looking for a sushi experience. Prices per peice of sushi range from $8-20 after the $90 service of 11 or so peices of nigiri.
Nyan Saik Krat
Nyan Saik Krat: The Chef is clearly skilled at his art and the fish was high quality! With 10 customers and 2 staff (The chef and who I assume is his wife), there is a nice, almost intimate atmosphere. My favorite piece of nigir was the chu-toro, which I highly recommend getting a la carte after your omakase experience!
