The Paper Hound Bookshop: what do users think?
R Lowery: Such a cool little bookshop! If you like vintage, antique or collectible books this place is the best. The prices are really fair as well, especially since many of the books are in really good condition.
P D: the Paper Hound is a small precious gem of a bookstore.
Robert Barry: Well kept location, cool selection, friendly owner, and a puppo in the store.!! What more do you want?
Alessandro Monetti: Lovely, neatly curated spot. I was looking for 3 specific books but I only needed to find 1, as I was happy to read whichever I could find first. I visited 3 much larger bookstores in the area, some of which said they had items in stock that apparently they didn’t — or couldn’t find due to chaotic [lack of] organization — I finally found one of them right here! Lots of other interesting titles here. I’ll be back the next time I’m in Vancouver!
Shirin K: Friendly, helpful staff....bookstore where serendipitous things happen, such as Guatemalan coin findings! ;-)
Robert Cromagnon: Cozy space with a great overall selection inside plus a bargain cart outside. The sales staff really know their stuff too.
Julian Worker: This is a lovely bookshop where the books are easier to find than in MacLeods on the other side of the road. They do have some new books too as well as many second-hand books. There are many genres including philosophy, thrillers, and novels. The shop also sells collectibles and titles published by the New York Review of Books.
Anastasia Kostaki: Super cute and quirky bookshop with interesting shelf names and book categories. A must for book lovers ♥️
Keith Gilbert: A great independent bookstore with carefully chosen stock. If I come into browse I always find (several) somethings of interest. Especially good for literature and poetry and books in the Humanities. New and second hand, always in good condition. My favorite bookstore.
Soefae Chen: Beautiful and neat little bookshop. The ambience is great and the shelves are organized with creating sorting names. The employee I met was knowledgeable and enjoyable to chat with. I will definitely be visiting the shop soon again.
Nainika Agrawal: A beautiful bookstore with a peaceful vibe and some interesting titles. Their collection isn’t as huge as MacLeod’s down the street, but it’s tidier and more organised.
Harneet Heer: Loved it! Great selection of books and decent prices.
Christoph: This wonderful little Buchhandlung is utterly saturated with delights - all housed in a unique realm that will surely compel you to forget your worries and dream. To visit this place is to do your health and wellbeing a wonderful favour. I look forward to my next journey. Thank you for the E.T.A Hoffmann collection!
Rose Sun: One of my favourite bookstores in Vancouver! Such interesting decor and fascinating collection of books
Mahshad: Tons of interesting books. Feels great and nostalgic
Stephen Gregory Nelson: Well it looked nice from the outside. Never been in there. Just walked by it so but I can tell you this. Don't judge a book by its cover lol
Lily Beigi: Cute little book store.
Estelle Cunningham: It was a nice place and it feels comfortable inside. What makes it special is its good selection of books. You will have a lot to choose from and the price is very affordable. I was interested to a lot of books here but I only bought just 2 books because my budget is tight recently.
Lin Kathy: Cute
Jochen Fromm: Nice little 2nd hand bookstore. Good collection of rare books.
Invidia Midnight: Very warm and lovely store with wide and highly tasteful selection. Perfect place to pick up quality literature in multiple languages all in one convenient location. Staff are kind and helpful. Always a treat coming here. Definitely recommend, especially for people who like to collect vintage books, read in several languages, or are looking for a solid philosophy selection.

MacLeod's Books: what do users think?
Cicy G: Great used bookstore, lots to browse.
Angus: Booklovers, come here, step back in time for the traditional second-hand book store experience. If it's your first time here, and it all looks a bit confusing, just ask the super knowledgeable staff.
Matheson Murray: My favourite bookstore in Vancouver. Staff are very helpful and know where things should be. A great place to go in not knowing what you are looking for and coming out with a couple of books.
Bizou: You will find everything you came for and more
Artie Lane: Hard to imagine what they DON'T have. Very helpful, very well stocked.
Veronica Zayas: If you enjoy reading, this is your place. They have a huge amount of books from many different categories and they are second hand which makes them much cheaper and in very good conditions. You have to look a little if you want to find anything in particular but you´ll enjoy looking around and can find so many things.
stephen wilde: wonder the isles. step over the piles. even if you’re not looking for a book and just want one of the best visual historic vancouver (not yet torn down made into cheap/expensive condos) experiences, you will find a book to purchase!!!
Geoff DeLuca: So many books! Go there if you like looking thru piles of books for used hard to find books. Helpful staff, good location.
Kris Toijonen: Friendly service, and a wide selection of most everything!
SN: Excellent selection and friendly staff. Prices for newer releases were decent (not cheap, but fair considering recency + condition). Will be returning soon!
Reggie Johnson: Incredibly rude staff
Karena Lindstrom: Very cool used bookstore, literally filled to the brim with books on many topics. There was a wide selection of old, hardcover titles. The staff were friendly and helpful for locating areas within the shop on a certain topic/genre.
Eric Saczuk: A true literary treasure trove...if you can look past the disorganized mess. Super helpful staff who seem to know everything about each book you pick up.
Gregory Devine: Everything you want a bookstore to be. Every time I'm in Vancouver, I visit.
Alessandro Monetti: Complete chaos. Piles of books everywhere making it hard to move around the store (someone knocked down piles simply by turning around). Labels on shelves don’t always match what’s on there. I’m sure there are plenty of great titles, but way too disorganized for my taste.
Henry Chen: A true treasure in the city. Mountains of books here, you can find lots of interesting/unique ones. A perfect spot to spend some down time here!
Robert Cromagnon: Books, books, and more books! Books on shelves, books in piles, books in the window.....and staff who know exactly where to point you. The trouble is every time I pop in looking for one specific book I usually walk out with three or four more. A bibliophile's paradise!
Aaddmd Desai: AmazingStore
Turtles and Peace Photography: I went to Macleod’s Books to sell some of my collection. They have an incredible store with lots to choose from! The store was busy, the staff were busy, but I was greeted and dealt with quickly and respectfully! I got a fair price for my books and the ones that they didn’t buy, they said it’s because they won’t sell well. I highly recommend Macleod’s Books for buying or selling!
Julian Worker: An excellent secondhand bookshop with many different sections to choose from. There's been a bit of a tidy up recently and there aren't quite as many books on the floor as there used to be but the choice is still overwhelming and you'll probably end up buying a book you didn't come into the store to buy.
Tatyana A: It's an interesting bookstore, with very proactive staff, but I would not recommend going if you have anxiety. I was visiting from out of town and wanted to stop in as soon as I saw it! I went right to the desk to ask where to find culinary books, and they directed us right to it. But as I was looking around, I went to take a picture and was told off in an unnecessarily stern manner. They spoke to me as if I willfully ignored their no photography policy, but I only saw the sign after they mentioned it, as they were both by the entrance and very easy to miss amongst all the books. I apologized profusely, and repeatedly, as well as deleted the photo. But I had to spend the rest of the visit just trying to quell my anxiety rather than enjoy the store.

Tanglewood Books: what do users think?
Nico Smith: Holy cow, what a fantastic neighborhood book shop. Strong science fiction offering, with numerous hardbacks stacked on the top shelves. Be careful when sliding out the hardbacks! Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Fair prices.
Robert Cromagnon: I don't get out to this store near enough but when I do I never walk away empty-handed. I especially love the narrow aisles with books on either side. Definitely not a place you want to just "pop in for a second".
Rory Mills: Awesome aesthetic - update though, please remove transphobic book “Irreversible Damage” from front window.
Miranda Maslany: I called to inquire about a book and they got back to me very quickly and were very lovely!
Jacqueline James: It was a unique book shopping experience for me because I found the store on my way to visit a friend and I got so curious so I came inside and to my surprise, it was a nice book place filled with many impressive books. You can freely browse each book, which I found amazing.
Estelle Cunningham: It was a classic book shopping. I love their interior, it is like being inside a good antique store. You would definitely like this store even from the outside. The ambiance was nice, it not dusty but was so clean and everything is organized. I had a nice time shopping interesting books here.
Ava Hall: I really like this store!! The ambiance is great, prices are good, I believe there's a chandelier which is so sick, and the employees are nice and very interesting!! Great store, I love buying books here :)
Trey Schober: Great selection, nice staff, and you can trade in your old books.
Justin Le Herissier: Great local bookstore, worth a browse if you're in the area. If you make a purchase you can start indulging at a cool coffee shop right next door!
Marten W: Ah yes, I think this is the place where the 2 love birds first met in the movie First Love.
Nadim S: Nice brick and mortar place with real books in wooden bookshelves and a gorgeous booksmell to boot. Oh and there's the perennial Murakami!
Marina Ribatto: Great selection of classic books as well as other genres ; friendly staff relaxed atmosphere no pressure sales free to browse , great place for those that love books
Lloyd McKnight: Tidy and we'll organized
Paisley D: Great prices, good selection (at least for what I was looking for) and super friendly/knowledgable staff. Definitely adding to my list of favorite Vancouver bookstores.
Svea Poulsen (Sveava): Lovely little shop with great pricing. They don't usually have indigenous art books but a great selection of everything else.
Cecilia Yu: this is my new favourite book store, the owner is very nice and knows a lot about all the books. very friendly and peaceful atmosphere. me and my friend went today and found so many books. there is a book for everyone. they have brand new books, as well as used books for great prices, usually half off. I ended up buying six books, some brand new, and the total was only 50 dollars.
Tarun Maitra: Great book store. Really knowledgeable and interesting staff. The last time I was there, the owner bought cookies from two kids selling chocolate for charity. He also ordered a new book for me that ended up cheaper than the local chain. Go there, buy a book, and then read it at the coffee shop next door.
J M: Cute little store.. great collection of books..
Emma Gagnon: Absolutely the cutest little book shop ever. Letting you live your fantasy bookstore dreams.
Andrew R: Dropped by one sunny October day in search of a gift for my mother. While they didn't have the book I was looking for, they placed an affordable order for it in no time. Great customer service and a cozy atmosphere that makes Kitsilano and West Broadway a better place.
Joel Chico: One of my favourite book nooks in Vancouver! Wide selection of books from many genres, a bit of an exisite mystery every time you go, as you'll never know what you'll end up leaving home with! Duncan and Alan are great people to talk to about whatever book you're into or looking for!

Pulp Fiction Books: what do users think?
Olesia Trubnikova: Nice cozy book store with a wide selection
Sarah: Super cool place! Can tell they put effort into the atmosphere (chill, take your time looking around) and it has that nice bookstore smell. The staff there are also super helpful and nice.
daisies234: Packed full of books new and used, there are so many treasures here and I appreciate the significant Indigenous lit section where many stores have only a few books
Anna Mazurik: Unhelpful and off-putting customer service experience, sadly.
Marcus Mrau (Hard Travelin Marc): I’ve been shopping here for 8 years, and I always considered this an awesome and welcoming place, a week ago I would have told you Pulp Fiction is the best used bookstore in Van. I seriously don’t know what the deal was but a new(?) female employee with pink hair was absolutely atrocious, I couldn’t believe how rude and nasty she was. Yikes! I dunno how the heck this snarky lady landed a job here, but the owner should definitely reconsider! I dunno what else to say but will be looking for a new shop :(Would advise people wanting to shop here that despite a 1 star review you’ll probably enjoy it… unless the pink hair lady is working. If she is behind the counter I’d advise turning around and trying another time.
Princess Peach: Great little store! I found a rare book that I had been searching for a while! Also saw the owner on the news talking about how he makes it a priority to pay his employees fairly and he seems like a genuinely good person.
Jordie Yow: My favourite bookstore in Vancouver. Well curated, great used selection, good variety of new books sprinkled into their shelves as well. I always go in there when I'm passing through and have time and usually find one of two books to add to my collection. You can order books if you're looking for something specific and get a discount (this beats ordering from Amazon if you've got the time). Staff are knowledgable and talkative and can make recommendations.I will warn if you're looking to sell used books they are picky, which is a two-edged sword. On the one hand, if you're trying to sell the books need to be pristine for them to buy them so it's hard to find a home for books if you actually read it. On the other hand, when you buy a used book for them they're basically like buying new books so you can feel good about what you found and not worry about little bits of damage that might ruin the reading experience. The one thing I always find weird about the store is that they have this archaic inventory system that involves the staff writing down every purchase by hand with pen and paper. I guess it's kinda charming that they refuse to move to a computer based system, but I imagine it makes life difficult for them and probably doesn't help when there's a line.
Patrick Reynolds: Easily one of the best in Vancouver. My go to.
SK K: extremely rude service when trying to sell used books here. the moment you try to sell, the owner will start to act like an abusive customer and treat you as if you were a street beggar. never visiting this capitalist hideout again.
Joel Lucas: Nice guy at the counter, LOTS of books, found what I was looking for and some others I might come back for when I finish what I’ve got.
Arthur Swift: read the other reviews and and visit for yourself and you'll experience the rudeness of the man with glasses behind the counter. absolute jerk. some of the used books are way overpriced, Google the titles yourself before buying. I will never visit this place again
T. Hall: My favorite bookstore! Killer selection, great location... My favorite part is going to the lovely book dealer and describing in less than 5 words what I wanna read and discovering new books, authors, genres! Countless times and every time a wonderful book! Thank folks! You rock :D
John B: It's Pulp Fiction. Best bookstore in town. What more is there to say?
Allison Collingwood: Great used book store with a fairly wide selection. Large sci-fi section, as well as classics. Fair amount of aged/vintage books also.
Leif Bergrud: Great service. Fantastic selection. Friendly people.
Sam Jones: Great spot with lots of books and knowledgeable staff. Definitely worth a visit.
Soefae Chen: One of my favourite second hand book stores because of their knowledgable employees and clean interior. I have bought many books there, from used classics to new releases, all for very impressive prices. I recommend this store to everyone :)
Royan Lee: This is the best used book store I’ve ever been to. Our family had so much fun visiting!
Christina Chan: They will order any book you request and have it there within days. Awesome staff, wide selection, and a diverse graphic book section.
Sandra Wadden: Checking for old titles. Didn't find the one I want, but they can order.
George McGoogle: I used to buy books here semi-regularly, but stopped after repeated rude service from the employees of the book store.

Massy Books: what do users think?
Theodore Jakob: Phenomenal bookstore, incredibly helpful staff & great selection. The staff are very knowledgeable. Couldn't give a higher recommendation!
Sebastian Fiorini: Great selection, knowledgeable staff, and pays living wages for their employees. Highly recommend
MikeGonzales84: Great book store. Indigenous owned. Great selection. Easy to find. Definitely recommend visiting. I will be returning and getting a few more books at a later date.
Jesse Byiers: My favourite book store in the city. Phenomenal selection of fiction, poetry and indigenous lit as well as extensive reads on queer, gender and sexwork. With art and drama works upstairs that doubles as a gallery from time to time I can get lost in this store for endless hours.
Sofia Lowenstein: Really good selection of books if you're into socioeconomic issues. It also has a good selection of local authors, authors of colour, indigenous authors, and topics of all kinds. Just overall amazing selection and atmosphere and wonderful staff.
Chiara Berton: A very nice and cosy book store. I was very excited about the secret room behind a bookshelf. There is a great selection of books, also second-hand books. The only thing is that some books are to high placed to even look at.
Mary S: Really great selection but man o man are they expensive. Not for the budget conscious 😭
David Jolivet: Easily accessable by wheel chair, Or scooter, parking no problems accessable for mobile or whwel chair devices as well. Friendly staff, who are very eager to help if you need assistance in finding your book. Kid friendly and any book you want you'll get it here.great place its a really good business in Vancouver.
Rachel W: I came in specifically to ask for recommendations on some very niche topics. The staff compiled a whole list of recommendations (some of which weren’t even sold in the store) with zero sales pressure.. Extremely cool and knowledgeable bunch of people. Plus, over a certain price you can get a discount or you can donate it to the Massy Arts fund. Massy is an Indigenous owned and operated bookstore—very important, and so thankful to have this gem in town.
Travis Amyott: Charming book store, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Fun to explore, and get lost in. Easy to order books, if they do not have in stock; they are happy to also redirect you to another store if it's a better option. Welcoming to all :).
Effie S: This is an example of an excellent book store. We are big collectors, and though we had less interest in the general selection, the rare books in the locked glass case were a delight to look at. The staff also didn't hound us or monitor us while we examined all the books and we took our time doing so (we inspect books quite meticulously). Once we selected the books, we returned to pay. A rare book set we recognized had just come out of a box and was being prepared to be priced. We inquired about it and even though it had not been put on the floor, it was offered to us on the spot and at an excellent price. We really appreciated that, that the staff were so friendly and accommodating, and also they gave us a nice tote for free to protect the box set. Will certainly stop in again on our next visit to this city.
Julie: Favourite bookstore in vancouver!Very cozy, neat and it has various kind of books about gender, indigenous people, and LGBTQ+.Reasonable prices for second-hand books, they are almost new.
FancyChristine: Massy books is a great space, and the staff are friendly and professional. I appreciate the large selection of books about Indigenous people, places and histories, it’s a very community-focused store, and I feel safe shopping there. The preorder process is easy, and I appreciate how it currently includes the option to make donations. Very grateful for Massy Books!
Gray Elf: Well curated book selection, art showcase, caring for employees, Indigenous owned, central location.... What are you waiting for? Get yourself to Massy!
Taryn Peterson: Indigenous owned wonderful bookstore with a secret room 🤩 would reccomend.
Elsi Dawson: Always welcoming, so helpful. Staff are knowledgeable, non-judgmental, and genuinely warm. Every time I'm here, I see interactions with the wider community that makes me proud to call this my local bookstore.
Duncan McIntyre: Extremely well-read staff members give the most thoughtful recommendations. Amazing selection. A must-visit - an experience like no other!
Soefae Chen: I visited Massy Books with a friend recently. The moment I stepped in, I was greeted by two very friendly employees, one of which complimented my makeup, which made my day. I am very impressed with this bookstore as it has many sections promoting authors that don’t get as much recognition as they deserve, such as Indigenous authors. The bookstore interior is very tidy and organized. There is even a secret room hidden behind a bookshelf, which was quite a surprise :) Overall, would reccomend!
Jui-Ting Hsu: An incredible treasure of books, of all parchment and genres, housed in a small enclosure within Chinatown. Peruse the sections, or - if you so choose - visit the website to discover new and welcome recommendations!
Marissa Jolin-Dobbin Lim: Amazing selection and service
M: Great selection of used books, wonderful service and fantastic prices.

Kestrel Books: what do users think?
bronwyn kroh: One of my favourite local book stores. Have been coming here my whole life
A Chen: Wonderful selection of books! The bookstore is bright, clean and welcoming. Will visit again😊
Alexander Lu: great selection of classics, poetry, and fine arts. love the atmosphere and the music, super chill. my new favourite used and rare book store in Vancouver
Nico Smith: All the fiction is sorted together, by author. More fantasy than sci-fi. Paperback heavy. Very helpful staff that will make suggestions.
Sarah Blackwood: Lovely bookstore and great selection. Woman working there was a delight and extremely helpful! I cannot wait to return again.
Joe A: A delightful book store
Thomas Bunbury: Probably the best bookstore in Vancouver. A beautifully curated collection. I can’t seem to walk in without walking out with a book under my arm. The owner is friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. If you live in the area a must. If you don’t, it’s worth the trip.
McKinley Johnson: Loved stopping at Kestrel, the owner was so nice and helpful and their selection of books had a little of everything in the best way.
Jessica Kay: I got up today with the sole purpose of making the hour long trek out to Kestrel today to pick up some hard to find and long out of circulation editions of some books I had put on hold the day before. I was already excited but then, after I made my purchase, I decided to browse lol.... As per usual, I found what I was looking for and then some at this the loveliest of shops!!Thank you Ron for everything and as always, it was lovely chatting and having a bit of a laugh with you, glad we've now officially introduced ourselves! And I must say, if I hadn't remembered that I had forgotten it, my plant looked quite attractive and at home on your front counter! 😊📚
Estelle Cunningham: It was an adorable book store with a lot to choose from. It has a cozy and the books were arranged accordingly. You will find it easy to shop nice books here. The prices were reasonable and each of the books I bought was a page-turner. I would definitely shop here again for more fascinating books.
Ren Chouinard: Amazing little store with a huge variety of books at great prices!
Lorne Haveruk: Nice neighbourhood bookstore with a large variety of topics covered.
Sarah “Biancanetta” A: Cute little bookstore with older, rare, and put of print books. I wish I'd had more time to look around but my 3 year old wasn't really letting me. I shall return!
Sarah: Cozy little bookstore. The shop is organized and the shelves/sections are easy to navigate. I found a book I was looking for and would shop here again.
Conrad Wolf: An absolutely awesome bookstore with some great collections and loads of interesting (and well preserved books). At good prices, too. However, the owner (or whoever the elderly gentleman with no hair who sells the books is) has a horrible, horrible attitude. The last time this man cracked a smiled was probably in the 1960s. As long as he is there, I wont' be going back.
Russell Klassen: Bought a book off this guy
Mark Chambers: Great bookstore!
ifournier96: I love this place so much
Kris B: Kestrel Books is a used Bookstore on West 4th and Alma in Vancouver. I've been there a few times and I always purchased from them. Yesterday I went there again. The older gentleman working who's apparently the owner was extremely rude to me. I was furious. I left the books I was gonna buy and I left the store. I will probably never go there again.
Fiona Burness: One of the best book shops in Vancouver. Huge selection of quality reads, priced well. I miss the cat that used to live in the shop but this is still a destination book store.
Ketarel: Cool books, cool staff.. the world would be a better place if there were more lil bookstores like this.

Lawrence Books: what do users think?
Aaron Christoff: Anyone have any idea why it's closed or when it will reopen? There should be some kind of sign. Very disappointing
Vera Williamson: It was a good book place. It was quite old too but I guess it was just the surrounding and its stocks. It can get a little bit of dark going to the corners of the store. I also like the vintage books available here and I bought a few because my friend from overseas like it so much and she really collects vintage books from other countries. I really appreciate this book store.
William Thomas: What is this freaking store!?!?I've lived here for two years and its never opened, no one's been in, and literally nothing has been disturbed inside this store for the last two years. All the books in the window are horrible faded by the sun, and I've looked into the front register but it looks like it's covered in dust and nothing's happened in here. This has literally been vexxing me for two years now. I have so many questions. It actually creeps me out quite a bit
Ivy Jiang (Ivy): I know it's closed due to Covid but if anyone knows if and when it will reopen that would be pretty cool. I always see the front light on while walking to the bus stop and it looks like a very cozy store :)
John M: Closed due to Covid. Sign on door says will reopen soon - whenever soon is. And voicemail on their tel number is full (and no recorded message saying when they will open). If you find them open, please update here. Thanks
Mani Rajaram: Anyone know if they have a contact email..that I can email from time to time..? Thanks
Blue Morris: Good selection of used books. Helpful staff.
David Stoller: Ms. Lawrence is both knowledible and helpful
Roger Lin: Really like this bookstore!
Darlene Wong: Hardly any walking room. Very crowded with books in boxes on the floor blocking shelves. Some hard to reach shelves. A book lover's dream but only if you find what you wanted. Bit dusty and musty from the smell of old books. Some very old volumes of classics if that's your thing. I only visit if I think there might be something of interest. Not a bookstore for the contemporary browser.
Nadine: It is always a pleasure to visit Lawrence books.
Jennifer May: Tons of great books, dusty, but well-organized, same owner for decades
Terri A: Come for rare finds, huge selection, and the adventure! Don't expect organization, and the fiction section is freezing in the winter-- it's part of the charm. Super helpful and knowledgeable owner. Very reasonable pricing. This place is a Vancouver gem.
Blake Rees: Eclectic and prodigious collection of printed matter. Do try to help 'staff' (one knowledgeable and thoroughly enjoyable ma'am) who has obviously 'taught' and applies Customer Service with a wry humour befitting a true biblio junkie !H. Beam Piper applauds you ...
carlos gaspar: Old school
Philipp Kundert: Huge selection
Marcus Schmaling: One of the best and last used book stores on the coast. Inside one is brought into another world. It is beautiful, if you like old books and that chocolatey, well-worn ancient smell. Love this place.
Paul Lee: It looks small but it is really big
Walker: Awesome used bookstore.
Mike Martinescu: Nice place. I sometimes go there to find old books to give as gifts, or to get a certain edition of a book. Allows trade-ins, so it's a good place to go to if you go through lots of books (like my neighbor who likes murder mysteries).
Christopher Oram: Best used book shop in town... well worth a visit if only to browse.
